The internal voice of doubt can be a source of discomfort that needs to be navigated. Team dynamics are crucial; each member brings unique strengths to the table. Belonging is a fundamental human need that can drive us to extreme challenges. Leadership in climbing involves significant responsibility for others' safety. Experiencing discomfort in nature can provide a sense of control over one's life. Having someone who believes in you can change your life trajectory. Leaders must confront the weight of their decisions and their impact on others. Consistency and honesty are essential traits for effective leadership. Understanding individual needs within a team enhances trust and collaboration. Leadership is a customized process that requires deep relationships. Operating from your values increases your chances of success as a leader. Self-reflection is essential for personal growth and leadership development. On Episode 24 of The Duffel Shuffle Podcast, Sam and Adrian dive into the nitty gritty details of what goes into planning an Everest Expedition, behind the scenes. Adrian has guided dozens of expeditions to the Himalaya, and while the industry and technology are forever changing, the process of planning a Himalayan expedition, particularly to Mt Everest, follows a fairly typical path. - Everest planning is truly a year-round activity, but Adrian tries to protect the month of July as his "no Everest" month. - Beginning in August, and lasting until the early part of January, Adrian is focused on building the best possible team. This often starts with clients, but by the permit deadline he has his clients, guides and sherpa team established. - Once the CTMA (Chinese Tibetan Mountaineering Association) permit deadline comes and goes, Adrian's focus turns to equipment and travel plans. With gear cache's in Tingri, Tibet and Kathmandu Nepal, as well as the US, and other supplies coming from Europe and South America, the duffel shuffle is always extensive. - Finally, with visa's secured, and equipment en route, Adrian and the team will begin their travels through China, into the TAR, and onto Basecamp. You can follow Adrian's Everest season and more on Instagram @adrianballinger, and the entire team through @alpenglowexpeditions. What kind of person looks at the world's tallest mountain, a frozen, oxygen-starved, avalanche-prone giant and thinks, “Yeah, I'll have a go at that?” Tim Kington, a photographer and adventure seeker with a dream to stand atop the world, took on Everest, facing brutal conditions where the air is too thin to breathe, the temperatures can freeze flesh, and every step is a fight against nature itself. Sean Swarner's story Sean's first goal was to crawl 8 feet from the hospital bed to the bathroom. A person who, at the age of 16, overcame a second fatal cancer with a prognosis of 2 weeks to live. Due to the therapies, Sean also lost the function of his right lung wing, which means that he only has 50% of his lung capacity. Two-time cancer survivor Sean Swarner became the world's first cancer survivor to complete the Explorer's Grand Slam-scaling the highest point on all seven continents and then hiking to the North and South Poles. Only a handful of people have ever done it, but no one against the overwhelming odds Sean faced. To prove the power of the mind with his story, at the age of 26 he climbed Mt. Everest, as the first to recover from cancer. Since then, he has crossed all boundaries, climbing every highest peak on every continent, skiing to the North and South Poles (thereby achieving the title "Adventurer's Grand Slam" as the 7th in history), regularly participating in marathons, Iron Mans and the like tests. Now, at the age of 50, he starts running 7 marathons on 15 November, in 7 days on 7 continents. He went on to Redefine Impossible by climbing 29,035 feet to the top of Mt. Everest with one lung! From there he stood atop the highest point on all 7 continents, skied to the South and North Poles, and completed the Hawaii Ironman. With that said, we hope you enjoy episode 12 of the Rabbit Hole.linktr.ee/RHPOfficial

Even when you give maximum effort, you can sometimes get minimal results. That's the gamble of life and podcasting. Jakub is back from vacation and has decided to branch out next year. Some random person spent 20K on a purse and you'll never guess what its made of. Which begs the question, "What would you buy just for the novelty?" A comic book store has a new in-store policy and Alex is over the moon about it. Have you ever wondered what happens to your Steam account after you die? Valve gave us the answer. Climbing Everest doesn't seem all that impressive anymore. Jakub just now discovered that car rental companies are a scam. Alex has more fancy words for your aural pleasure! All WYSP Social Links
In this week's episode on the Rox Lyfe podcast I get to chat with Geordie Stewart (@geordie_stewart on Instagram). Geordie has quite the story. He is the author of 3 books. The first details his experience of being the youngest ever person to scale the 7 summits (the highest mountains on each of the 7 continents). His second book documents his solo journey of 13,000 miles on a bike, from the UK to New Zealand, and his third is about his time training as an officer for the British Army at Sandhurst. We discuss all of these experiences, and more, as well as his experiences in HYROX which include him being part of the winning mixed doubles team at the recent HYROX London event, finishing in a time of 55.35mins. Bear Grylls has described him as “A true pioneer and an inspiration for tenacity and resilience.” And Sir Ranulph Fiennes has said that Geordie is “An ambitious young man with genuine determination,“ and that his “attitude is inspiring.'” I loved chatting with him. I think you'll really enjoy, and hopefully be inspired by, our conversation.

This week's guest is one of the most remarkable we've ever welcomed to the GTCC. We are used to having guests who climb mountains - and, of course, G does it almost every day - but, well, not like this guy. Kilian Jornet is one of the most incredible athletes to ever walk this earth. Aged 24, he'd won basically every ultra endurance and trail race there is to win. Since then, he's secured his status as the greatest trail runner of all time by climbing and descending numerous major mountains in scarcely believable times. Most notably, he climbed Mount Everest twice in five days back in 2017. Completely alone and without supplementary oxygen or climbing ropes, Kilian tackled the world's highest peak and returned to Base Camp in 17 hours. And yes, you read that correctly. He did it twice in five days. He's also a huge cycling fan and loved chatting to G. We're sure you're going to enjoy this week's pod. Meanwhile, G's back up a mountain of his own - he's spending a couple of weeks in Sierra Nevada before racing Strade Bianche, off the back of the Volta ao Algarve, where he made his debut for the year. Tom got the lowdown from him. We've welcomed a new partner to the GTCC! Sean Swarner is an impressive human being to say the least. He has beat cancer twice but it hasn't stopped him from climbing the 7 highest peaks on every continent and went to the North and South pole. The list could keep going on and on.

It was not done. But I believed in my vision." – Maria Conceição "The hardest thing I've ever done in my life has been honoring a promise I made to 100 mothers and families in Bangladesh that I was going to take them out of poverty. I never expected that helping someone would be so difficult in life. And it's only now, 18 years later, that I started to see results of my work." – Maria Conceição "In 2005, I went to the slums of Dhaka and I made these children and their impoverished families.
