When we talked last week she estimated that she might be finished her paperwork and winging toward the Middle Eastern country by mid-December. Jordan is one of very few Middle Eastern countries to which the Government of Nepal allows women to migrate for work. That's because of past incidents of violence against women migrant workers in the region's countries. We talked about this ban earlier this year in our chat with expert Sadikshya Bhattarai. The flow of migrant workers from Nepal to Jordan has never been huge, peaking at just over 2,700 in 2016-2017 and then falling to just 621 in 2022-23. Regardless, tens of thousands of women have made the trip to other countries in the region illegally, often being trafficked through India. We spoke with one such woman, Sushma, earlier this year. Pragati says an aunt working in Jordan encouraged her to apply for a job in the factory, which reportedly makes clothing for Nike and other brands. But there is a third way and apparently, it's painted purple! Grinduro have just announced the launch of their 2024 world series and we got the inside scoop of what will be involved, from head honcho James Deane.Gravel Inspiration – Taking On The Weather Gods And WinningIt seems to have rained in the north of England non-stop since the start of October. Each time you ride, your drivetrain and brake pads make the kind of noise that whispers “your bike hates you” repeatedly in your ears. Wouldn't it just be best to wrap your gravel bike in a blanket and forget about riding it until the Spring? Never fear – we're not going to let climatic conditions ruin our ride plans, we just have to be a little cleverer. Here's Olly's guide to not giving up when the weather gods aren't smiling on you. Sabrina Zohar started her career in the fashion industry, working in sales for large brands and showrooms. In the industry, she particularly noticed how brands were both ripping their consumers off with low-quality materials and offshore and unethical manufacturing plants and damaging the environment with inefficient and wasteful standard manufacturing processes. When her mother went to the doctor with a headache, was diagnosed with six brain aneurysms, and given a three-percent chance of survival, Sabrina realized there was more. She watched as her mother took this time of adversity as a moment to find gratitude. When her mother survived, Sabrina decided to start Softwear the next day. After spending eight months creating the exclusive fabric and deals already in place with dozens of vendors, retailers, and other outlets, including The Iconic, Bloomingdales, Tracy Anderson Method, Rumble, and more, the brand has experienced unexpected success at a very early stage. Softwear is set to potentially make a lasting impact on the sustainable apparel industry while inspiring female founders and empowering US-based businesses and environmentally and ethically-conscious consumers.Follow her on IG at @Sabrina.zohar or at @wearsoftwear and on TikTok @Sabrina.zohar.As usual, follow and find us at:CurrentlyUnwell.com@currentlyunwell on IG

This season there will be a Relief Society president on Project Runway. Yes, you read that correctly. Katie Kortman is as shocked as you are. She knows she is not the fashion designer people are used to seeing after 19 seasons of the show, but she also knows that, as her mom taught her, “different is good.” On this week's episode, we talk with Katie about her love for color, both literally and figuratively, and why she believes it is best to be yourself. Kelly Alexander, the eldest of five siblings, was inquisitive from an early age. Having a thirst to make sense of a complex, even bewildering world, Kelly read a lot and searched for insight routinely. Learning has been a life-long source of awakening and inspiration. Faced with an ‘incurable’ disease at the age of 19—she rejected the Dr’s prognosis; at the onset of a second episode, and with a belief and intention that is rare at any age, she cured herself in less than 48 hours. Since that time, she sought out and found approaches to diet, health, social pressures, dating, and so on that revealed a depth of possibility not typically discussed or addressed in the public square. She worked as a clothing designer and patternmaker in the Los Angeles Fashion District for 25 years. Later, she pursued real estate investing and trading in the stock market. She embarked on a quest to become a more educated, empowered citizen financially, commercially, and politically. After a decade of legal research and some painful dealings with the IRS, she uncovered extraordinary secrets about the banking system, taxation, and American history. She applied those revelations in 2014 and has not owed income taxes since. As the founder of Great American Tax Remedy, it is now her passion and calling to liberate and empower others to do the same. Her creativity, sensitivity, curiosity, courage, and desire to access more and more of her potential as a human and spiritual being continue to shape and define her life. End of rue des Cascades by Tiersen

This episode describes how a home-based clothing designer and producer conceived her niche and comparative advantage in a market otherwise dominated by large labels. In her last months of maternity leave, Lysandra Weber tested an idea for starting a home-based business. Her work colleagues had regularly complimented her clothes, which she had made herself, and she wondered whether the interest would translate into sales. Well, it did. The test was such a success that Lysandra thought she could make a go of it, and she has never turned back. Six and a half years later, Geek Chic Fashion is a thriving business that Lysandra still runs from her home studio. She loves her work and stays closer to her young children and husband than would have been possible in the corporate world. In a business that is labor-intensive, fickle, and driven by short-lived trends, Lysandra has not been constrained by the small size of her enterprise. Instead, she has cultivated the trust of a loyal customer base. Maintaining full control of her business; using high-quality materials and innovative designs; providing outstanding customer service; and rooting her business in a core of ethical practices are some of the ingredients of success. Learn more about how Lysandra has employed these strategies to stay happy and grow her successful home-based business. You can find Lysandra's creations at https://geekchicclothing.com/ and follow her on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/geekchicclothing/. Neil wants you to stop bringing plastic into the mountains. Living and working in the mountains for the last 18 years has meant that he's worn just about every conceivable 'technical' fabric in the wildest weather. McNair's clever, enhanced Merino keeps you comfortable and still in touch with the elements. Plus it's natural, sustainable and effective. This week I chat to the wonderful Katie Trickett Katie Trickett is a sideshow, circus and variety performer living in the UK. She likes shoes, tattoos, small dogs and cake! Katie has a degree in Clothing Design and Technology and was set for a life in the fashion industry until a magician asked her to cover a show for his wife as an assistant and her passion for magic and performance began. After two years working in illusions and assisting several UK magicians Katie decided to learn her own magic, specialising in creating her own stage acts and close up magic. The jump into the world of sideshow came in 2011 with some escapology shows and being part of a team recreating original 1950s sideshows. Sideshow performance is on a completely different level to magic as all the stunts are genuine and require high levels of natural skill to complete them. These shows are full of real danger, excitement, mind boggling wonders and sometimes a little squeamish in parts but are all round fun and a great flash back at traditional alternative performance. Gwendolynne Burkin is part of an exciting generation of Australian fashion designer that came up a the late 90s independent fashion boom time alongside alum such as Akira Isagowa and Lisa Gorman. But since then, a lot has changed in the Australian Fashion industry. Many of the names defined that period - how we dressed, what our high streets looked like, and the way Australian style was defined in the eyes of the world - have disappeared due to influences like highly competitive off-shore production, and inevitable defeat of online shopping by fast-fashion and overseas mega-brands. For Gwendolynne to still be in business 21 years later is a small miracle, due mainly to a series of creative business reinventions. I wanted to talk to Gwendolynne about what it was like coming up in that era of promise - and how she has managed to continuously adapt and evolve within her industry in order to do what she loves. This is a great episode for anyone who is looking to start their own business - especially one based around artisanal skill set. When you ARE 'the machine’ at the centre of your business - how do you ensure that you are taking care of your biggest asset? For some creatives, neglecting wellbeing for the sake of heightened productivity may mean you are getting results at the cost of your health. You need to ensure you are supporting your passion - not just creatively but also physically, mentally, nutritionally and with rest. It’s up to you to take care of your greatest asset.

Erin Braxton has spent most of her life perfecting the art of shopping. Along the way, she developed a soft spot for pajamas and loungewear. But whenever she went shopping to update her loungewear collection, she noticed an annoyingly consistent trend: sexy and comfy do not coexist. Comfortable pieces are boxy, shapeless and hide the body. Sexy pieces are often complicated, difficult to put on (let alone take off!), and physically constricting. Erin wondered why women had to accept this compromise. Why can’t women be sexy and comfortable at the same time? Yes, women want to look beautiful for themselves and for their significant other. But why sacrifice personal comfort for that special someone’s attention? The truth is, a woman is sexiest when she’s comfortable in her own skin. This is when Erin vowed to change the age-old ‘comfy-or-sexy’ ultimatum. She put pencil to paper, and found the middle ground between flannel jammies and lacy teddies. In 2003, she founded Erin Braxton, LLC and created a line of loungewear and sleepwear that truly understands what women are looking for – comfort, fashion-conscious style, sexiness and durability. The Erin Braxton luxury boutique line is a new option for women - soft, breathable cotton and modal loungewear in chic designs and colors that are trendy in the bedroom, and luxuriously comfortable just lounging around the house or running around town. Her line is currently sold in spas, resorts and specialty boutiques across the country.
