So let's not settle for anything less. I love you. I believe in you. God is with you in this. He has a huge plan for your life. This is such a small chapter and there is so much ahead for you. I met Cristian two years ago.  We mention one year, however looking back, it's been two.  When Forbes Riley started bringing us together.  At first I wanted Cristian Hauser on to speak to his transformation.  I am amazed at the story he did end up sharing.Beautiful.His sight from the outside looking at a bulimic is precious.  Many of us who have been and are bulimic don't hear these stories, and the few of us that do, sometimes they're not as kind and beautiful.I appreciate Cristian for sharing his story.  His honesty of "what do you do and how do you eat in front of a person you know is bulimic?' (paraphrasing).Cristian has an amazing story too, which was why I invited him.  Being an imposter to others.  Bulimia is about that.  Feeling like you don't belong.  Bulimics feel that quite often.  Alienated.  Hiding.  Scared to be YOU.  I did ask Cristian to share his new beginnings with his course.  It's important that we support each other as humans.  And accept the good, the bad, and the ugly.  And loving all of that bundle with all our heart. You can find out more about Cristian at 1800cristian.comTruly a wonderful young man and grateful I met him and that he is in my life.  Just added meeting him in person to my bucket list. :)New Release Kindle or Signed Copy! My goal is to inspire you to heal by sharing all the different healing modalities out there and this one is one of a kind. On this episode, I was super excited to learn all about IFS (Internal Family Systems) with Heather Smith who a Licensed Professional Counselor and who has been certified on this modality for years. We talked about the history of IFS, and how it was developed by Dr. Richard Schwatz as a result of working with a bulimic patient, what all of our "parts" are, and how IFS works to access them and slowly and carefully "unburden" them so that they can go back into harmony and do what they would rather do! We all have parts, or "voices" whose role is to keep us protected from accessing our deepest fears or wounds and while these protect us in the short term and most often helped us survive and even thrive professionally, these parts don't offer our long-term health and wellbeing so when we feel unhappy or "stuck" looking at these parts to heal them, may before extremely beneficial to set us free.

In today's episode, Charlie Nicholson, a yoga instructor and writer who shared her Ayahuasca experience with me on episode 7 was back for another talk on Amazonian medicines. This week we talk about her experience with Kambo (listen to #027 for more details on the effects of Kambo) and her personal history of bulimia which I wanted to hear about in relation to the purging process of plant medicines and how she was able to relate to this from a new perspective, rather than being triggered by her old mental illness. We discuss how Amazonian cultures see purging as a release of blocked energy or emotion and as normal and part of health and maintenance whilst the Western world has a complete different cognitive framework around it, which is based around shame and sickness. Charlie shares how this mental illness formed in her life and why eating disorders in general are so insidious. How they trick you into believing the story you tell yourself, and create an endless cycle of reacting to a negative self-belief that becomes a filter through which you pass everything concerning yourself. In her case, that she has no control over her life. Fortunately Charlie found a way out of the disease and we talk about how she was able to harness that obsessive impulse to control and transfer it onto something healthy. In her case: Yoga and meditation to rid herself of bulimia without any medical or psycho-therapeutic interventions. Even though we speak about bulimia in particular in this talk, my hope is that it may spark recognition of patterns of addictive behaviour in your own life, that you may have been leaning on to escape a current reality. Sarah explains that her eating disorder behaviors started very young, around the age of 10.  She started restricting food at that time, however did not engage in bulimia until she was 18.Sarah feels that being in a larger body size, even if it is not an overweight body, there is shame that comes from being picked on and bullied about it, which leads to not being able to deal with the shame in a healthy way. With a lot of long distance runners being "lanky and thin", Sarah was trying to make her body into something it wasn't, trying to look more like others she felt were faster due to their smaller size. After her injury, Sarah explained the loss of muscle and weight contributed further to the bulimia.Sarah shares that her bulimia recovery started when she realized she needed help after opening up a box of diet pills, and weight reduction products she had ordered.  She went for help and admits that she was scared, yet she knew she needed the support. Sarah did say that some athletes have given up their sport altogether due to an eating disorder, and it was important for her to recover to continue with hers, as her running was part of what defined her identity.  She runs trail races now and so she says "it doesn't behoove" her to be more muscular.  She has come to learn how important food is, and the positive effects it has on the body and mind. Sarah's blog started about her bulimia, however she has expanded it to other stories now, including posts on mental health.  We are both in agreement that bulimia can be fully overcome and we don't need to be victims to it.Sarah's blog can be found at www.theprosiest.com.  Sarah's book on poetry, I Like It Because It's Pink, can be purchased on Amazon.  Sarah is also working on her new book to be released soon.  You can also find Sarah on Instagram @mcmountain.#bulimia #bulimiarecovery #bulimiaover40 #midlifebulimia #bulimiaover50 #eatingdisorder #eatingdisorders #bullimiaddict #iamthatgal #bulimiacoach #bingepurge #bingeingandpurging #throwup #deceit #hide #lie #food #overeating #bleepbulimia #podcast #itunes #apple #buzzsprout #amazonmusic #alexa #sarahmcmahon #theprosiestblog #ilikeitbecauseitspinkBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! I really appreciate Jacalyn for sharing her candid and compelling story about bulimia, and her continued struggle with it.  As a Bulimia Recovery Coach, this interview was not easy.  It is, however, honest and true.  When a bulimic is not ready to let go and still feels bulimia is the answer to remaining slim, it is a bigger challenge to recover, and as a coach, I would be there to listen, however until the client is truly ready, any program would have a lesser chance of being successful.  As we discuss, it really does have to come from within.  It has to be a personal choice to let go and recover.  To do it for others will not be sustainable.  I do want to emphasize that you CAN recover from bulimia.  You can maintain a healthy weight after recovery.  It is important for both of these that YOU have the desire to.  We also speak to the different levels of bulimia.  In Jacalyn's case, she is not a binger, however she does purge every day. Jacalyn also spoke observing online posts where people seem to feel the need to "outdo" each other in severity.  As discussed with Lisa Arnold, this can often reflect a need for attention.  It may not be the kind we truly want.Jacalyn also questioned the influence of support groups on Facebook, wondering if they may be a trigger at times.  I know I had felt that in live groups when I was first seeking to recover, particularly if the information was negative.  This interview is to share with the listeners the story of someone still struggling, and I admire Jacalyn for agreeing to share.  There are not many non-recovered bulimics willing to do this.Thank you, Jacalyn.#bulimia #bulimiarecovery #bulimiaover40 #midlifebulimia #bulimiaover50 #eatingdisorder #eatingdisorders #bullimiaddict #iamthatgal #bulimiacoach #bingepurge #bingeingandpurging #throwup #deceit #hide #lie #food #overeating #bleepbulimia #podcast #itunes #apple #buzzsprout #amazonmusic #alexa BE A GUEST/FIND A GUEST Start for Free! “Once Upon a Comeback” Doc Film Details Dara Torres' Eating Disorder

SEC Network will debut its latest SEC Storied documentary “Once Upon a Comeback,” the story of swimming sensation Dara Torres, on Monday, Feb. 22 at 9 p.m. ET. The film’s debut coincides with the SEC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, with the women’s airing Sunday, Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. and the men’s airing Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. Dara Torres pushed boundaries for both her gender and age, breaking records and forging new paths for women. However, underneath the success was a relentless mounting pressure to look a certain way. A star swimmer at the University of Florida, Torres won nine SEC individual championships, was named SEC Athlete of the Year in 1988 and earned 28 All-American swimming honors – the maximum possible during a college career – all while living with a severe eating disorder. Bulimic during her time at Florida, Torres speaks about this experience on-camera for the first time in-depth. Her journey is not uncommon, just rarely talked about, and highlights the dangers of competing at the highest levels and pushing the limits, both physically and psychologically.  Torres would go on to win 12 Olympic medals over a 25-year span, participating in five Olympic Games. As a veteran swimmer and mother, her 2008 Olympic comeback is legendary, when at age 41, she became the oldest swimmer to win an Olympic medal. Now, she is an important role model for all collegiate and Olympic athletes, having navigated the difficult transition from elite athlete to a successful life after sport. The film was directed by filmmaking duo Lisa Lax and Nancy Stern Winters. “We began our careers in sports television, Nancy at ABC Sports and me at NBC Sports, and followed Dara’s amazing journey through many National & World Swimming Championships and five Olympic games,” said Lax. “We are in awe of her accomplishments, especially in 2008 when she made her third Olympic comeback as a ‘working mom.’ She is a remarkable inspiration to all of us working moms. Being able to handle the pressure and juggle the responsibilities – and to do it all with such poise and perfection is fairytale-like.” Collectively, Lax and Winters’ television and film productions have earned them 16 Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and multiple CASE, Christopher, Cine Golden Eagle, Davey, Gracie, International Monitor, Telly and Sabre Awards. After building illustrious careers at rival networks -- Winters at ABC producing Wide World of Sports and directing soap operas — and Lax at NBC Sports directing, producing and managing the production of over 500 short films & profiles for the Atlanta, Sydney & Salt Lake City Olympic Games -- they fulfilled a lifelong dream of working together by joining forces in 2002. Learn how to remove the guilt and shame from food. CLICK HERE TO PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY. A message from Kimberly... After struggling with bulimia and disordered eating for nearly a decade, this book is exactly how I reprogrammed my mind, transformed my body, and shifted my identity to someone who loves what she sees in the mirror. It is my sole + soul intention from this book, that by reading it a piece of cake will hold no more power over you than a piece of spinach. You will start to see food and yourself differently, through the eyes of love, instead of beating yourself up with guilt and shame. This chapter is an excerpt from Section 4, “Guard Your Gates,” Chapter 1: “Be the Gentle Watchwoman of Your Words.” I talk about my experience teaching these concepts of how your language is a comman to your suconscious mind to a college classroom in California in my signature “Body Language: How to Rule Your Body + Crown Yourself” lecture. In this episode, you'll learn why cheetos are not good and butterfingers are not bad (3:00), what the perception of cheating is doing to your unconscious mind (5:00), how you can think about food to remove the morality (6:30), why eating “bad” food is making you feel worse (8:00), how your body responds to eating something “bad” (9:30), why you must shift your mindset to eat ice cream (10:30), how to reclaim your power of choice (12:00), the exercise to take you your power back from food fears (14:00). The HoopleCast HBO Project continues by discussing two episodes of the horror anthology Tales from the Crypt (1989). In "The Man Who Was Death" William Sadler is a real Frank Underwood-slash-super villain, getting sadistic thrills by electrocuting his city's undesirables, until the easily predictable tries-too-hard-to-be-ironic "twist" ending. "Creep Course" finds a curious bookworm thrown into Jeffrey Jones's Egyptian tomb wherein she fucks a mummy to freedom and earns herself an A+ grade. Upstairs, Anthony Michael Hall transitions from nerd to jock then bleeds from the ass and mouth. (11:23-1:09:35) ... Then things get really horrific as we go all after school special with Lifestories: Families in Crisis (1992). "The Secret Life of Mary Margaret: Portrait of a Bulimic" stars Calista Flockhart as a teenager on the "scarf and barf" diet, and "A Body to Die For: The Aaron Henry Story" features the future husband of Jennifer Garner (Ben Affleck, not Noel from Felicity) going all aggro when he overindulges in the steroids. Grace Zabriskie from Twin Peaks co-stars as Affleck's mother. (1:09:36-2:20:21) ... All these episodes are terrible, but some are less terrible than others. ... Also, Westworld's blockbuster ratings, two space operas in the HBO pipeline (Glare, and Isaac Asimov's Foundation series), and Big Little Lies. (0-11:22) | Send feedback to hooplecast@gmail.com. In late 2007, author and activist Terri Jean turned her career towards photography. A former Bulimic, she opted to use the girl-next-door model type for her work, thumbing her nose at the accepted industry standard of the 5'10", size 0, emaciated waif. Naming her modeling troupe “The Eye Candy Girls”; Terri Jean accepted women of all shapes, ages, sizes, colors, and personal styles (or “flavors,” as she puts it) to represent her work. Their motto, “Every woman should FEEL delicious” also relates to Jean's Femme Photo Series, where she transforms every day women into bombshells during photo shoots. Her best-known studio work are her retro Pin-Up and Old Hollywood glamour shots, plus her soft, seductive bedroom boudoir series. Mz Jean's first book, 365 Days of Walking the Red Road (Adams Media Corp. 2003) has sold more than 32,000 copies. In 2010 Terri Jean founded the pro-“real body” media movement - T.R.A.M.P.S. (True Representation and Media Portrayal Sisterhood) - to continue and strengthen her opposition to the unrealistic and unhealthy standards that are considered “the norm” by Hollywood, the media, and today's fashion industry. Furthering her mission, the photo project “Marilyn & Me” was open for exhibit on July 26th, 2010. Jean photographed 84 volunteers from her community representing women of various size, colors, ages, and personal styles as Marilyn Monroe. Her goal wasn't to match the photos up perfectly, rather to capture the essence of the moment of the photograph. Marilyn Monroe was chosen as the exhibit's focus because of her iconic status as one of the most beautiful women of all time, and because, according to today's standards, the curvy beauty would be considered a fuller-figured actress. Terri Jean is currently working on several more female-empowerment projects. To keep up-to-date, add her (terrijean)on Facebook and visit her website at terrijean.com.
