See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Des de Moor knows his stuff. A hugely respected beer writer, critic and author, he has decided to write the book about Cask Beer that fills the gaps in all of our knowledge of this legendary ale style. Des's new book - 'Cask Beer: The Real Story of Britain's Unique Beer Culture' - is out today, August 1st 2023. What a brilliant excuse to talk all things Cask with such a global authority. Our conversation dispels myths, unlocks hidden history and - perhaps most importantly - brings to life the unique heights that this traditional style reaches. A well-brewed, properly looked after and carefully served pint of Cask Beer is simply magical. It gives you a drinking experience that no other beer style can. Listen to this episode, get enthused... then go out to your local Cask-friendly pub and sample a pint or 3 of Cask (and why not order Des's book while you do - link below): Order your copy of 'Cask Beer: The Real Story of Britain's Unique Beer Culture' here
What do social movements have to say about climate change? What is their role in local and global governance of climate change? How do climate activists coordinate alternative futures in a postapocalyptic present? Some people say individual changes are needed, while others think it should come from systemic change. How does the climate movement reconcile both? Your Parenting Mojo - Respectful, research-based parenting ideas to help kids thrive
We've already covered a couple of episodes on sleep, including the https://yourparentingmojo.com/captivate-podcast/sleep/ (cultural issues associated with sleep), then more recently we talked with https://yourparentingmojo.com/captivate-podcast/restedchild (Dr. Chris Winter about his book The Rested Child) where we looked at sleep issues in older children. But if you have a young child who isn't sleeping well, from the baby stage all the way up to about preschool, this episode is for you! My guest is Macall Gordon, senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Antioch University Seattle, and who has studied young children's sleep for 20 years. She's particularly interested in the intersection between children's temperament and their sleep, and how parents of the children she calls 'little livewires' can support these children so everyone gets more sleep. If you have questions about sleep training - particularly when and how to do it - this episode is for you! And if you're expecting a baby or have one under the age of one (whether this is your first or not!) you might be interested in the Right From The Start course, which is designed to help you get things right for you from the start. We go in-depth on understanding topics like sleep, feeding, physical, mental, and emotional development, and more - both for baby and for you! Get all the (research-backed, of course) information you need, plus a supportive community and four group coaching calls during the 8-week course. Enrollment is open from April 3-13, and we start together on Monday April 18. Click the picture below to learn more! Frank van Laerhoven is speaking with Maurice Paulissen. Is it a historian? Is it an ecologist? No, it is a landscape historian! Maurice is one of the many commons scholars that cannot be easily categorized by means of a disciplinary label. He is also an exponent of a long tradition within our domain of researchers for whom “going to the field” means “going to an archive” and that manage to reconstruct commons governance 500 or more years back. Maurice co-authored an IJC publication entitled ‘Dire Necessity or Mere Opportunity? Recurrent Peat Commercialisation from Raised Bog Commons in the Early Modern Low Countries' together with Roy van Beek, Serge Nekrassoff, Edward Huijbens, and Theo Spek. The episode starts with an half-hearted attempt to pin down Maurice in terms of academic disciplines (an attempt that partly fails). It then continues with a reflection on the article that served as an excuse for the conversation. That article contests the simplistic notion that in early modern Europe, shared resource management solutions offered by markets or governments were not sufficiently reliable, and therefore fell into the lap of autonomous communities. It is convincingly shown that markets (both local and regional), governments (at various levels, in various forms) and more or less autonomous communities play competing and complementary roles in the governance of peat land – roles that vary over time and place. The conversation ends with a reflection on whether a study of commons governance 500 years ago can be useful for commoners, today. For more analyses of historical commons, also check out the following IJC titles: Laborda-Pemán, M., & De Moor, T. (2016). History and the commons: a necessary conversation. Njeni romani so prevedeni v skoraj vse svetovne jezike, tri imamo tudi v slovenščini: Egiptovski vojvoda, Virtuoz in Slikar in dekle.
In our latest episode of What Matters, host PJ Hagerty has a chat with Mattermost contributor and frequent guest blogger Tom De Moor to discuss some of the ways he's used Mattermost to work with communities affected by COVID-19. From an incident response integration that keeps an eye on vaccine refrigerators to contact tracing using emojis, Tom has stretched Mattermost further in order to make a safer environment.
Tine is professor “Social Enterprise and Institutions for Collective Action” aan de Erasmus Universiteit.

Abstract: High-dimensional molecular measurements are transforming the field of pathology into a data-driven discipline. While H&E stainings are still the gold standard to diagnose disease, the integration of microscopic and molecular information is becoming crucial to advance our understanding of tissue heterogeneity. To this end, we propose a data fusion method that integrates spatial omics and microscopic data obtained from the same tissue slide. Through correspondence-aware manifold learning, we can visualise the biological trends observed in the high-dimensional omics data at microscopic resolution. While data fusion enables the detection of elements that would not be detected taking into account the separate data modalities individually, out-of-sample prediction makes it possible to predict molecular trends outside of the measured tissue area. The proposed dimensionality reduction-based data fusion paradigm will therefore be helpful in deciphering molecular heterogeneity by bringing molecular measurements such as Mass Spectrometry Imaging to the cellular resolution. Abstract: Computational analysis is crucial to capitalize on the wealth of spatio-molecular information generated by mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) experiments. Currently, the spatial information available in MSI data is often under-utilized, due to the challenges of in-depth spatial pattern extraction. The advent of deep learning has greatly facilitated such complex spatial analysis. In this work, we use a pre-trained neural network to extract high-level features from ion images in MSI data, and test whether this improves downstream data analysis. The resulting neural network interpretation of ion images, coined neural ion images, are used to cluster ion images based on spatial expressions. We evaluate the impact of neural ion images on two ion image clustering pipelines, namely DBSCAN clustering, combined with UMAP-based dimensionality reduction, and k-means clustering. In both pipelines, we compare regular and neural ion images from two different MSI datasets. All tested pipelines could extract underlying spatial patterns, but the neural network-based pipelines provided better assignment of ion images, with more fine-grained clusters, and greater consistency in the spatial structures assigned to individual clusters. Additionally, we introduce the Relative Isotope Ratio metric to quantitatively evaluate clustering quality. The resulting scores show that isotopical m/z values are more often clustered together in the neural network-based pipeline, indicating improved clustering outcomes. The usefulness of neural ion images extends beyond clustering towards a generic framework to incorporate spatial information into any MSI-focused machine learning pipeline, both supervised and unsupervised. Nils de Moor with Jason Barnard at BrightonSEO April 2019 Nils de Moor talks with Jason Barnard (The Brand SERP Guy) about SEO on the edge. Why not use Content Delivery Networks to manage some of our tech SEO? And not just the simple static stuff. CDN nodes allow us to intercept the request and adapt the content on the Edge without even going back to the original host. Several use cases: speed, overcoming restrictions of your host platform, A/B testing. Most importantly, it frees the SEO practitioner from some of the shackles that the tech imposes, which is brill. But not without its dangers… it is easy for an SEO changing content on the Edge to mess up big time, so demarcation and chain of commands are vital. And for anyone who knows ‘the Google Tag Manager' trick of changing HTML on the fly, please note that this is more reliable, better performing, faster, has more use cases… And it gets better and better as the conversation progresses. Getting access logs from the host ever been difficult? You can get them at the CDN level. The Edge can become a powerful, simple and fast routing system. Nils gives us a glimpse of how. By the end of the conversation, Edge SEO has become my new favourite thing.

Matthew Poole (1624-1679) was an English Nonconformist theologian educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge; he held the rectory of St Michael le Querne in London from 1649 to 1662. Poole is principally associated with the work Synopsis Criticorum Biblicorum (5 vols. folio), in which he summarizes the views of one hundred and fifty biblical commentators, including Jewish sources and Roman Catholic commentators–an undertaking of ten years, and a monument not only of his extensive reading, but of his great acumen and learning. He also wrote English Annotations on the Holy Bible, completing as far as Isaiah 58 before his death in 1679. Much of Poole’s valuable contribution, being written in Latin, has been out of reach for many students of the Bible, including pastors and teachers. To remedy this problem, Dr. Steven Dilday has been laboring to translate the works of Poole, publishing them in English. In today’s podcast, Steven Dilday talks about his Matthew Poole Project. He tells us about the life of Matthew Poole, and how we can obtain his recent publications of Poole’s work in English. Steven Dilday holds a BA in Religion and Philosophy from Campbell University, a Master of Arts in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia), and both a Master of Divinity and a PhD in Puritan History and Literature from Whitefield Theological Seminary. He is also the translator of De Moor’s Compendium of Christian Theology. Dilday is Assistant Professor of Religion at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina. L. Michael Morales is Professor of Biblical Studies at Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and the author of The Tabernacle Pre-Figured: Cosmic Mountain Ideology in Genesis and Exodus (Peeters, 2012), and Who Shall Ascend the Mountain of the Lord?: A Biblical Theology of Leviticus (IVP Academic, 2015).
