We close out Marvel Cosmic May with a look at the OG Nova, RICHARD RIDER! How can Doc help this jaded space cop who totally isn't Hal Jordan? Intro Next week is last episode of season 9 Background (2:00) Richard Rider created by Marv Wolfman and John Romita Sr. in The Man Called Nova #1 (Sept. 1976) Nova Corpsman Rhomann Dey is dying, and gives his power to high school student Richard Rider - however, he has no instructions on how to use these powers After some adventures on Earth, he travels to space, where he helps the Xandarians battle Skrulls and other enemies He returns to Earth and gives up his powers (first time), but after struggling without them, he regains them and joins the New Warriors Garthan Saal, a Nova Corpsman gone mad, strips Rich of his powers (2nd) so he can rebuild Xandar after Nebula destroyed it - Saal is defeated and his power is restored He defies the Xandarian queen in an effort to save Earth, and is stripped of his powers (3rd), but when his replacement sacrifices himself to stop the Deathstorm, he's returned to glory Annihilation - the entire Nova Corps save Rich is destroyed by Annihilus, so the Xandarian Worldmind takes refuge inside Rich's helmet - Rich kills Annihilus and saves the universe Unbeknownst to him, the Worldmind is recruiting new members to the Nova Corps - when Rich learns that Ego the Living Planet was among them, he objects and is stripped of his rank and powers (4th) Having lived with the Nova Force for so long, he is dying without the powers, so he borrows Wendell Vaughn's quantum bands and becomes Quasar - after saving the Corps during War of Kings, Ego is removed and Rich is restored as a Centurion Goes through a rip in space-time known as the Fault and enters the Cancerverse, where he and Star-Lord battle Thanos until the rip closes, trapping all three inside - Star-Lord and Thanos later get a hold of a comic cube that frees them, but Rich remains trapped When Sam Alexander contacted the Xandarian Worldmind to get information on his father, this alerted Rich and allowed him to escape the Cancerverse - unfortunately, his body became a portal, and the inhabitants tried to use Rich to invade Earth - he and Sam helped repel the invaders, and they returned to Earth The entire Nova Corps was once again decimated, and Richard became an alcoholic until Annihilius showed up and asked for Rich's help to defeat the Cancerverse invasion - after Rich swallowed the entire Cancerverse (#BecauseComics), he was killed by the Sentry, thus killing the invading forces, and resurrected by Annihilus as a way of saying thanks Took over as leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy after Star-Lord was killed, which Rich blamed himself for until he started therapy Issues - Theme is “Don't worry, it gets better… I mean worse… I mean better…” (8:13) Constant flux of powers causes him numerous problems Feels like everything is his responsibility, and thus his fault (14:50) PTSD as a result of the numerous wars and battles (22:49) Break (28:29) Plugs for Cheers to Comics, Adventures in Erylia, and Jeremy Whitley Treatment (29:51) In-universe - Have him figure out how to use the Nova Force for creation Out of universe - (33:52) Skit (39:46) Hello Richard, I'm Dr. Issues. -Hello, Doctor. So, what can I do for you? -Well, let's just say that I'm not going to be an easy case. I'm not going to give you a hard time, but this road is not smooth at all. I welcome the challenge. -You say that now, but when I start telling you some things…it's not even about the confidentiality. This is some serious stuff. A lot of death, a lot of pain, tons of anger…and that's just when things turn out ok. You're building up to a multitude of events, and I don't even know the basics about you. -Yeah, yeah, I get it. I just wish you could fast forward through this stuff, or leave off exactly where my last therapist did. Is that too much to ask? Do I have to repeat this every time? No, of course not. -Well, I gave you permission to look at my files, isn't that enough? *clearly irritated* What, you can't stomach to read it or something? What? No, I just want your take, not someone else's. -So you think my last therapist was a kook? You think it was that bad? Whoa, you're rushing to judgment way too early. -*Angry, rambling* Of all the people I get to take my stuff out on, I get someone who wants to start from the beginning, as if it wasn't bad enough going through it the first time! *continues rambling angrily* that's it, I'm outta here, gotta take a break, I KNEW this was going to go bad…*keeps rambling, door opens and shuts, still ranting* Well, this is going juuuuust great…oop -*door opens and shuts again, still ranting* whew, I might as well rip a hole in space time, that oughtta REALLY freak someone like you out. Do you know I've had to die just so I can live a better existence? Are you trying to intimidate me, or test me, or…I don't know what. Is this how you vent? -I don't vent. I attack. Then why are you attacking me? -Not you…well, not You, you. You just happen to be there. It's not like that. Richard…I'm the only one here. I get that you have no other target, but it's not productive to yell at me right now. I don't take it personally, but I'm still a person. -You're a person…aww, Doc has feelings…whaa whaa whaa…If you were with me, you wouldn't last long with that attitude. You're not trying to recruit me. I'm here to help you, remember? -*deep breath* Yeah, yeah…experienced dealing with cosmic madness. No excuse for my disrespect. This line of work kind of makes me jaded. I've heard worse, just not before…hmmm…you know what? Screw the background stuff. It's obvious that it pisses you off. What I'll focus on instead is what do you want to change about how you're feeling right now? -*pause* Well, like you said, I'm pissed off, but…it's deeper than that. It's like something keeps clawing through me…and believe me, I've been clawed through, so I know what I'm talking about. But it's not others, it's…it's something about me. Like, I'm not feeling how I should feel. Does any of this make any sense? Let me see if I understand. You have intense responses to your current state of mind, and it doesn't match with what you should be feeling based on what you know about yourself. -Something like that, I guess. Then what “should” you be feeling, if you don't mind my airquotes? - *pause* I shouldn't even exist, you know? I should have been dead and buried a looooooong time ago, but I'm still kicking…and kicking ass, while I'm at it. So, survivor's guilt? -I'm grateful! But, how many times am I going to go through this? I don't have a crystal ball -Well even the ones who have that type of power treat me like a wild card anyway, or take my power…sometimes I wonder if I should fight to get them back at all. Then I get pissed off evan more, and I double down, and just promise myself that if I ever get them back I won't lose them again…*frustrated* HOW…MANY...TIMES? How do I keep going? *pause* You were right. From the start, you were right. This is not a smooth road. You are like Sisyphus…perpetually pushing that rock. -I thought you were supposed to make me feel better. Hear me out! This is going to be a matter of perspective. You have been entrusted with a task that is incredibly important but has shown to carry with it a perpetual burden that resets from time to time. You can view that as a curse, but -*interrupting* If you say it's a blessing I swear No, I'm saying it's variety. You have learned to adapt to the same goal in ways that most people haven't endured yet. That's beyond unique, that's a level of discipline that can't be taught. If you continue to endure, then you are providing yourself with more ammo for unexpected challenges even when the basic premise remains the same. Sunrise, sunset, but no two are the same. You get me? -A part of me wants to rip your spine out through your chest and use it as a javelin for my next enemy you optimistic pious jerk *gulp* -But…hmmmph…that can't be all there is to it, right? Like, I can't make “keep my powers” be the end goal? It doesn't have to be, but you were the one who said that's what's eating at you. You're a complex study, so I'm sure we're just scratching the surface, and I'll challenge your own assumptions. -You got a bit of a bite to you after all. No wimping out. That's decent of you. Ok, hot shot. I'll tell you what. If you're willing to take my call, I'll reach out when I think I'm about to have someone get the drop on me. I'll be waiting *whispers* with some antipsychotics for the paranoia* -What was that? Nothing…ehe, I'll be waiting is my point. -Right then. Guess this is as good a time as any to wrap this up before I piss myself off again. Good bye. Bye *hears door open/shut* *phone dialing* I'm not even sure how this works, does my plan cover intergalactic calls? Anyhoo…um…your excellency…tribunal…ness…sir…thing…I think I'm going to take a break in my block scheduling for now…no, I didn't say I quit…I mean…your sense of time is so much different, a day is a decade to you, or vice versa…yeah, messes with my calendar. Plus my accountant doesn't know how to handle “being one with the balance” as a form of payment. Still have some details to work out. Ciao! "Death Falls" - The final battle against Deathstorm begins as the whole team deals with grief while Frost prepares for the final fight on the Scarlet Velocity: A Flash Podcast!
WARNING: This The Flash interview with Danielle Panabaker is a full-on MAJOR SPOILER article as it breaks down tonight's episode of The Flash Season 8, Episode 13, "Death Falls." Read at your own risk! The Flash season 8 has been going through one of its darkest storylines this year as the show re-imagined the DC baddie Deathstorm while also jumping into the world of horror and supernatural. As the latest graphic novel got more intense over the last few weeks, it became evident that a tragic death was on its way and this week's episode came as a game-changer for Team Flash as they lost one of their allies. While it stopped Deathstorm once and for all, Killer Frost made the ultimate sacrifice in order to defeat the big bad. Even though this is in a comic book and superhero universe, The Flash's massive death is sticking as "Death Falls" was not a fakeout nor will they retcon the heartbreaking ending. The Flash Podcast's Andy Behbakht recently sat down with Danielle Panabaker, who has portrayed Caitlin Snow and Frost for over eight years, to breakdown "Death Falls." Throughout the interview, Panabaker discusses how this story came about, the experience of playing two characters at the same time, a reflection on Frost's legacy, as well as tease how this affect's Caitlin's arc going forward in Season 8. This interview is available in text and audio version, both on podcast platforms and on DC TV Podcasts' YouTube channel. As Deathstorm attacks Caitlin, Flash arrives and strikes the entity with Speed Force lightning only to be easily repelled as Deathstorm makes his escape. He goes on a full-blown killing spree throughout the city, with a growing body count, so Kramer mobilizes the CCPD. Cecile connects to S.T.A.R. Labs' search systems to track Deathstorm, but he possesses her and demands Caitlin. After having a manifestation of Esperanza Garcia fight Allegra, he kidnaps Caitlin and announces his intention to make her his bride, but lets her go, stating that she isn't ready. Team Flash deduces that Ronnie's grief was transported away by the singularity, and that it's been travelling through space for the past seven years. Chester plans to modify the container that healed him in order to emit cosmic energy that can harm Deathstorm, and Frost volunteers to harness it. Meanwhile, Iris inexplicably returns; her time sickness pulled her into the Still Force and saved her. However, it infects Deon, preventing him from seeing Iris's future, and he inexplicably vanishes. Sue is able to stop Iris from doing the same. That night, Eddie appears in her apartment.Support this show at patreon.com/TVTALKAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES Season Episode “Second Chances” (Date: 01 Feb 2017) Article: http://comicbook.com/2017/02/02/arrow-easter-eggs-and-things-you-might-have-missed-in-second-cha/ HUB CITY - Hub City, a fictional city in the DC Universe, is best known as the home to The Question, a self-taught urban shaman. The last time we saw the city on Arrow was when Esrin Fortuna helped Oliver take on Damien Darhk...and of course, when Hub City started to show up in showrunner Marc Guggenheim's tweets this year, there was plenty of speculation that he was teasing The Question. Turns out, he was teasing the Black Canary! BIG BELLY BURGER - Big Belly Burger, a fictional fast-food restaurant in the DC Universe, is the fast food of choice for people who are in hiding, in jail, or otherwise cut off from the world on The Flash. Here, we saw Team Arrow hanging out there in Hub City while Felicity got it delivered to her in the Arrowcave during her side quest. FAMILY SECRET - When Talia refers to her agelessness as a "family secret," it's the kind of cutesy clue that Nyssa used to drop in her early appearances, where she didn't directly name-drop Ra's al Ghul or the Lazarus Pit, but made references that were pretty clear to people in the know. Back then, of course, we always wondered whether Ra's would ever make an appearance. Now, he's come and gone, and we know that this kind of vague dialogue is mostly to keep continuity tidy so that Oliver doesn't realize exactly who he's dealing with when Ra's and Nyssa come in later. THE FLASH & CAPTAIN SINGH - In what Marc Guggenheim tweeted was the quickest crossover Arrow has ever done with The Flash, we got to see Barry speed (in costume) into his boss's office to vouch for Green Arrow. What's nice to see is Captain Singh, Barry's boss, who hasn't been seen much this season. It felt a bit like last night, when the long-absent Miss Tessmacher from Supergirl had a quick cameo on The Flash. SONUS - Sean Sonus, alias Discord is a sonic villain who fights Green Arrow and Black Canary. He first appeared in Green Arrow and Black Canary #15, and was co-created by Arrow EP Andrew Kreisberg and artist Mike Norton. DINAH DRAKE - "Dinah Drake" is actually the name of the original/Earth-2 Black Canary, who existed in the comics before Dinah Lance did. ARROW NEWS: New Arrow Episode Gets A Russian Title As It Begins Production (Date: 30 Jan 2017) Marc Guggenheim, the show's executive producer, shared a cover of the new episode's script, and let fans know that it was beginning production. Episode 17 will be titled 'Kapot', which is a Russian word meaning 'cowl' or 'hood'. Flashbacks reveal how Rene went from simple family man to a hero named Wild Dog. Meanwhile, Oliver (Stephen Amell) must deal with the perpetrator behind the attack and realizes the best way to do so is as Mayor Queen instead of the Green Arrow. Tensions run high in the Arrow bunker. Kristin Windell directed the episode written by Marc Guggenheim (#513). Actually, when TVLine last spoke to Wendy Mericle, the Arrow scribes were in the midst of hashing out a return scenario for Little Miss Benedict Arnold. “We have a really cool, exciting twist for how she's going to reappear,” the EP teased, noting: “The interesting thing about the choices Evelyn has made is that as much as she took the moral high ground when confronting Oliver, she has allied herself with someone who is even worse,” in Prometheus. “She's gone from the frying pan into the fire.” Link:http://tvline.com/2017/01/31/bones-final-season-spoilers-booth-gordon-wyatt/ Wayback Wednesday: Watch The First Ever Trailer For Arrow (Date: 01 Feb 2017) In honor of Wayback Wednesday - and a brand new episode of Arrow tonight - it's about time to take a look back at the first ever trailer for Arrow. This footage was seen in 2012, and it talked a lot about Oliver Queen's return to the real world, after he was thought to be dead. The trailer shows Oliver on the island, beard and all, as well as his assimilation back into society. Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/02/02/wayback-wednesday-watch-the-first-ever-trailer-for-arrow/ ARROW: TINA BOLAND'S REAL NAME WILL BE FAMILIAR TO DC COMICS FANS (Date: 01 Feb 207) “Tina Boland” is her undercover name; her real name is Dinah Drake. If that sounds familiar, that's because Dinah Drake is the name of the original Black Canary. Dinah debuted in 1947's “Flash Comics” #86 as Black Canary. Later, she married a man named Larry Lance and subsequently changed her name to Dinah Lance. Inspired by Dinah, her daughter Dinah Laurel Lance would go on to become a founding member of the Justice League. When the New 52 restarted DC Comics' continuity, the Black Canary legacy was retconned, and Dinah Drake was restored as the one and only Black Canary. This New 52 version of Dinah Drake was formerly married to Kurt Lance, but the two divorced. Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-tina-boland-black-canary-dinah-drake/ Arrow: What is Helix? (Date: 01 Feb 2017) Helix was a supervillain group led by Dr. Benjamin Love, aka Mr. Bones. The members were six mutated children who had been experimented on and then kidnapped by Love. They grew up to be a rather bizarre cast of characters, including Kritter (a human/dog hybrid) and Baby Boom (a young child who can cause explosions with her mind). It's safe to assume that any future appearances of Helix will certainly be way more grounded in reality - with any mention of the original characters probably being used as online screennames. This is similar to the inclusion of the secret organization Shadowspire in Arrow, which was given a much more realistic makeover. When recently discussing the dynamic between Felicity and Diggle going forward, Arrow executive-producer Wendy Mericle mentioned that the events in 'Second Chances' will play into the rest of the season. "Part of what kicks [Felicity] off down this darker path is she's going to find evidence to exonerate him -- and [Diggle's] going to have to deal with the fallout of the fact that Felicity is now going down a questionable path in part because of him." With that in mind, there's a very good chance that tonight's episode will not be the last time we hear of Helix on Arrow. Heroes Unite.” In the episode, a White Martian arrives in National City to capture M'gann and return her to Mars, where she's to be punished as a traitor. Unwilling to allow that to happen, Hank Henshaw and Supergirl bring M'gann to the Department of Extra-Normal Operations for protection, only for circumstances to turn from bad to worse. So there's a fair amount of Flash-ness going on in Legends. I wish I could say that we were so smart to take advantage of the new timeslot and do that, but we weren't that smart. We just had already sort of been doing that organically anyway when we found out about the new timeslot. I will say this: There's a love scene in episode 11 and we were in the editing room on it — it's a love scene, it gets a little steamy — and I was joking, ‘Let's take that 9 p.m. timeslot out for a spin.'” The article has the audio of the interview with Guggenheim. As for when we'll get to see the duo in action, it looks like episode twelve, titled "Untouchable," is a good bet as it'll feature a subplot with the Scarlet Speedster helping Kid Flash elevate his game to the next level. Check out the new "Lightning Strikes Twice" poster. Details on his return are still scarce, but the actor gave EW a little tease of what to expect. “I was there last week,” he shared at Honda's “Hockey Goes Hollywood” event in Los Angeles. “I can tell you that my scenes are with Grant [Gustin] and Danielle [Panabaker]. And I may or may not be alive.” That last part is key, considering the last we saw of Ronnie, he died as a result of destroying the singularity that opened up the path to Earth-2, where that planet's Ronnie was a villain named Deathstorm. Being back on Flash is always a treat for Amell, who got to catch up with his TV wife and former superhero partner and have his first true Ronnie and Barry scene. When asked about Captain Cold, he said, “He is going to be a full-fledged member of the Legion of Doom and be very valuable to them on multiple fronts. Eobard has done his homework in this regard, and he's recruited somebody who's fully on board with the Legion of Doom's mission and he also understands the complications that Captain Cold's relationship with the Legends… the psychological complications that inform Eobard and his plans.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-matt-letscher-legion-of-doom-reverse-flash-captain-cold/ KEIYNAN LONSDALE TALKS WALLY'S TRANSFORMATION INTO KID FLASH (Date: 31 Jan 2017) Interview with CBR. When asked about Savitar, he said, “Savitar is the biggest threat that any of them have faced. Fortunately, Barry doesn't have to do this alone. He's always had Team Flash. Other people are getting powers. It's going to take everyone working together to stop him. Wally is super-crucial to that.” Also, he won't be singing in the musical episode. She wrote “Super Friend,” which will be performed by Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist. The episode will also feature an original song written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen) called “Runnin' Home to You” that Gustin will perform. Details of her character aren't known, but it's described by the CW as “a mysterious new role that will become the new Big Bad of Season 2.” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg said of Hatcher's casting, “No offense to any of the wonderful actresses who have also played the part, but Teri Hatcher is my all time favorite Lois Lane. To have her come back to the SuperWorld in a completely different part is an unbelievable gift to me, Greg, and the fans.” Link:http://deadline.com/2017/01/supergirl-teri-hatcher-season-2-cast-recurring-1201898430/ ‘Black Lightning' Drama Eyes Move To the CW To Join Greg Berlanti Comic Lineup (Date: 02 Feb 2017) Deadline has learned that Black Lightning, the high-profile drama based on the DC character, which had a big production commitment at Fox, is on the move and likely to land at the CW. The project comes from Greg Berlanti, king of the CW's DC universe. Fox brass ultimately decided that the superhero show was not a good fit. The CW is home of Berlanti Prods.'s four DC/WBTV superhero series — Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, which Berlanti also co-created. That makes the network a suitable home for Black Lightning, which would give the CW's DC universe its first major African American superhero. Black Lightning would be the only black superhero toplining his own broadcast series and the second currently on TV, joining Marvel's Luke Cage on Netflix. The Justice Society of America was conceived by editor Sheldon Mayer and writer Gardner Fox. The JSA first appeared in All Star Comics #3 (Winter 1940–1941). VIXEN - Probably the most recognizable member of the JSA's cast this time around was Vixen -- at least for fans of the CWverse. In addition to having her own animated series, Vixen -- an African-American woman who derives the power of animals from the Tantu Totem she wears around her neck -- had a memorable guest appearance on Arrow last season. Of course, that's all Mari. This woman? Mari's grandmother, Amaya Jiwe, who passed the totem down through their family. HOURMAN - Rex Tyler, also known as Hourman, is a Golden Age superhero and the first of a number of characters to use the Hourman name. Tyler has a number of superhuman abilities, like enhanced strength, reflexes, and healing -- but only for an hour at a time. His abilities are given to him by Miraclo, a drug he designed himself. There is an Hourman legacy including Rex's son Rick and an android from the 853rd Century programmed to act as a member of the Tyler family. The android, at a point in the past, presented Rex with an hourglass infused with tachyons -- time in its most basic form -- and that hourglass would become part of both his and Rick's costumes. Said hourglass has been seen on board the Waverider on previous episodes of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.. STARGIRL - Stargirl is Courtney Whitmore. In the TV series, she exists in 1942 -- but in the original comics, she was created (and existed) in 1999, and was part of a "next generation" of Justice Society members who came up in the late '90s and early 2000s. Courtney Whitmore was created by Geoff Johns and Lee Moder, and has a famous backstory: Johns named her after (and based her personality on) his sister Courtney, who died in the explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. COMMANDER STEEL - Commander Steel is Hank Heywood, Sr., the first in a line of DC heroes to use variations on the Steel moniker. A legend in the World War II era and a member of the All-Star Squadron and later the Justice Society of America, Heywood's body had surgically-implanted mechanized steel devices that allowed his body to work on a superhuman level. Originally just "Steel," he was promoted to Commander Steel by President Roosevelt in 1940 -- so while this is his first appearance in live action, it's timeline-accurate to call him Commander Steel by this point in his career since the story takes place in 1942. DOCTOR MID-NITE - Doctor Mid-Nite is a name shared by a number of blind super-heroes and physicians with the ability to see in the darkness, using blackout bombs and martial arts to gain an advantage over criminals. Doctor Mid-Nite was created by Charles Reizenstein and Stan Aschmeier, first appearing in All-American Comics #25. OBSIDIAN - Obsidian is the son of Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott, a founding member of the JSA in the comics. He and his sister Jade would go on to play an important role in the Justice Society's sinoff groups the Young All-Stars and Infinity, Inc., as well as eventually joining the Justice Society itself. He was also briefly affiliated with the Justice League. LEAVENWORTH - The United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in northeast Kansas. On Arrow, it was revealed that Leavenworth is where John Diggle is being held while awaiting his court martial. KRIEGER - There are basically two figures who could have inspired Baron Krieger, even though there is no specific Baron Krieger in DC Comics. The first is Baron Blitzkrieg: Originally a World War II German army officer, the man who would be Baron Blitzkrieg was blinded when a concentration camp prisoner threw acid into his face. German scientists experimented on him, giving him injections of experimental drugs which would give him incredible powers for brief periods of time. The other possibility is Albrecht Krieger, who was basically Captain America, but for Nazis. A genetically-modified super-soldier, Krieger also had a mad scientist brother and a psychic sister we might have to worry about if it's him -- and while the backstory feels a lot more like Blitzkrieg's, Krieger has not only the name but the general look of this week's threat. MAX LORENZ - Max Lorenz was a famous singer, who lived in Germany around the time of World War II and is widely known as "Hitler's favorite tenor." Of course, it's a handy thing that Legends of Tomorrow star Victor Garber has the pipes to make that scene convincing. UBERMENSCH - It's worth noting that there are several references to "Übermensch" in here, which is derived from Nietzsche in Thus Spake Zarathustra, one of the influences for Superman, which is more or less what the word translates to directly. The term can literally translate to "Overman," which in the DC Comics universe is an alternate-universe version of Superman who lives on an Earth where the Nazis won World War II.REVERSE-FLASH - Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, may have something up his sleeve. At the end of The Flash's Season 3 premiere earlier this month, he said that while his future was as it should be, Barry's might not be. Barry then went home to discover a number of small anomalies that made his life and those of his friends worse. Now, we learn that "somebody" is outfitting the villains of history with future tech in order to push the world to a slightly worse place. Could Eobard Thawne have stepped right out of "Flashpoint" and into "Out of Time?" Either way, seeing him and Darhk together is enough to make seasoned Arrowverse fans quake in their boots even before they know the other members of Thawne's little Legion of Doom. ARROW NEWS THE CW RENEWS ARROW, FLASH, SUPERGIRL AND LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (Date: 08 Jan 2017) Renewal will bring “Arrow” to Season Six, “The Flash” to Season Four, and “Supergirl” and “Legends of Tomorrow” each to Season Three. It will mark “Supergirl's” second season on The CW, following its freshman outing on CBS. However, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), still reeling from Detective Malone's murder, is bent on revenge – she wants to stop Prometheus at any cost. While in prison, Diggle (David Ramsey) fights for his life. Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Ben Sokolowski & Brian Ford Sullivan. Link:https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/laurel-lances-return-is-further-teased-in-synopsis-for-arrow-season-5-a147940 ARROW: THE CALCULATOR IS NOT RETURNING – YET (Date: 09 Jan 2017) According to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, Donna and the Calculator won't be back because the show is moving in a new direction. Guggenheim also teased that Felicity will a meet a few people in the back half of the season that are connected to her past. Additionally, he explained that Felicity's new, darker direction can't be blamed solely on Billy Malone's death. Rather, her experiences over the course of the show will culminate in her new attitude. “Billy was the final straw,” he said. “It's also the sum of the fact that Felicity has been living in this darker world for the last four-plus years now…. How has that affected her way of thinking about things?” He added that this will be directly addressed in Season 5 Episode 11. Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-the-calculator-is-not-returning-yet/ ARROW: Greg Berlanti Teases More Appearances From Laurel Lance Across The CW (Date: 10 Jan 2017) While it hasn't been confirmed 100%, it's a pretty safe bet that this Laurel is the evil Black Siren from Earth 2, who was originally introduced in The Flash last year. While her motivations remain unknown, Arrow producer Greg Berlanti has teased the character's involvement in more than just the events of Arrow's fifth season. “We made a deal at the end of [season 4] to bring her back for a bunch of episodes. Katie is a part of the fabric of the show. Because the show, like a comic book, can move in different ways, and characters go and come, everybody that's ever been a part of the key and core ensemble has always had a place at the table for our show. There's the capacity for her to be [in all four shows]. At this moment, she's in three of them.” Link:https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/arrow-greg-berlanti-teases-more-appearances-from-laurel-lance-across-a148060 ARROW EPS ADMIT IT'S HARD TO DO THE SHOW WITHOUT A BLACK CANARY (Date: 11 Jan 2017) Co-showrunner Wendy Mericle said, “Look, it's hard to do a show about Green Arrow without having a Black Canary. I don't know if it will happen this season or when, but… we are going to be true to origins in the DC universe, and she's always going to be there.” So far on the show, three characters have carried the Canary name: Sara Lance, Laurel Lance and Evelyn Sharp. However, when the team arrives they discover that Rip has no memories of his past due to “time drift” and is just a graduate film student. After trying to convince Rip of who he was, they discover that he possesses an incredibly powerful artifact known as the Spear of Destiny, which the Legion of Doom is after. Ray (Bradon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) realize that the Aberration has also affected them personally making it difficult to help the team. Meanwhile, Rory (Dominic Purcell) asks Stein (Victor Garber) for help and makes him promise to keep it a secret from the team. Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also star. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Keto Shimizu & Chris Fedak. Link: https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/the-mystery-surrounding-rip-hunter-is-revealed-in-new-a147939 NEW LEGENDS OF TOMORROW EPS WILL STAR A WHOLE DIFFERENT RIP HUNTER (Date: 10 Jan 2017) The back half of season two kicks off on Tuesday, January 24 after the show's winter hiatus. That batch of episodes starts with an episode titled “Raiders of the Lost Art,” which guest stars a young George Lucas (or rather an actor named Matt Angel playing a young Lucas) and features the return of Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill). But Rip won't return the same as we previously knew him. Marc Guggenheim talked about the upcoming episodes and how the Spear of Destiny will impact the show. “The second half of the season is really paying off the Legion of Doom and what we now know is the MacGuffin of Season 2, the Spear of Destiny,” said Guggenheim. “Changing time is like painting with the biggest paintbrush possible; using the Spear of Destiny is like using a very, very fine-point technical pen.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/new-legends-of-tomorrow-eps-will-star-a-whole-different-rip-hunter/ The Girl Of Steel Visits Another World In Synopsis For Kevin Smith's Episode Of SUPERGIRL (Date: 05 Jan 2017) KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr's (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver's Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver's Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara's disappearance, fearing she's become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister. Kevin Smith directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Eric Carrasco & Jess Kardos. When a criminal named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) shows up in Central City, Barry recalls the villain's presence in his vision of the future and fears that if he catches Plunder, it will cement Iris' fate. Confused about Barry's hesitation to stop Plunder, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) decides to step in as Kid Flash. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) offers Julian (Tom Felton) a job. Millicent Shelton directed the episode written by Grainne Godfree & David Kob. According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, the two-part story will have lasting ramifications on both shows. According to Kreisberg. “When we get to the musical episodes, both Barry and Kara will find themselves at pivotal crossroads on their respective series, and the experience of going through the musical will have a great impact on both series moving forward.” Executive producer Greg Berlanti confirmed the villain will indeed be the Music Meister, who can control people through song. What's more, the musical crossover will feature original songs and could include characters from any Earth or timeline in the “Arrow”-verse. No date has been announced for “The Flash”/”Supergirl” crossover. Link: http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-flash-musical-will-have-great-impact-on-both-shows/ DC COMICS' SOLOVAR ARRIVES IN FLASH'S TWO-PART GORILLA CITY STORY (Date: 09 Jan 2017) “The Flash” is taking a trip to Gorilla City in episodes 13 and 14 of season three. The series will also introduce a new telepathic gorilla straight from the comics, Solovar. Keith David will provide the voice of Solovar in the Gorilla Grodd-centric two-parter. David is a film and television veteran with a career spanning decades. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg announced the return of Grodd and Gorilla City during a presentation at the TCAs. Kreisberg also revealed that the two-parter will span multiple Earths. “One of the episodes will take place in Gorilla City [on Earth-2], and one of them will take place on Earth-1.” In the comics, Solovar — a psychic gorilla like Grodd — is the leader of Gorilla City. Under his rule, Gorilla City became a technological wonder. Solovar's involvement in “The Flash's” Grodd/Gorilla City two-parter makes sense considering that Solovar is Grodd's main rival (other than the Scarlet Speedster) in the comics. Link: http://www.cbr.com/dc-comics-solovar-arrives-in-flashs-two-part-gorilla-city-story/ BLACK FLASH TO RETURN ON ‘MULTIPLE' ARROWVERSE SERIES (Date: 08 Jan 2017) As expected, “The Flash” viewers haven't seen the last of Hunter “Zoom” Zolomon. However, when the character returns, it may not only be on that CW drama — and he may not be portrayed by Teddy Sears. Transformed by time wraiths into Black Flash and then pulled into the Speed Force in “The Flash's” Season Two finale, the villain will indeed race back into the Arrowverse.“I will say that you might be seeing him on multiple shows,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. He didn't say which shows those are, or when fans can expect Black Flash's return. “[Black Flash] is a classic character. We have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him around,” he said. “There's something so scary about him, something even scarier than when he was just the man, because now it's now he is the Grim Reaper, he is the devil. How do you stop the devil? So it presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/black-flash-to-return-on-multiple-arrowverse-series/ ‘Constantine' Back As Animated Series For CW Seed With Greg Berlanti Producing (Date: 08 Jan 2017) Constantine, which had a one-season run on NBC, will be back as an animated series for CW Seed. Five to six 10-minute episodes have been ordered. Matt Ryan, who starred in the live-action DC series, will voice the title character. Link: http://deadline.com/2017/01/constantine-back-animated-series-cw-seed-greg-berlanti-producing-matt-ryan-1201880788/ SUPERGIRL CASTS PETER GADIOT AS MISTER MXYZPTLK (Date: 07 Jan 2017) A new photo from the set of the CW drama reveals that actor Peter Gadiot, who played Cyrus on ABC's short-lived “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” has been cast as the classic Superman foe. However, we can see that the impish villain won't look anything like he does in the DC Comics source material, where he's traditionally depicted as an older, diminutive character. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Ira Yarborough for 1944's “Superman” #30, Mister Mxyzptlk is a mischievous imp from the fifth dimension who delights in tormenting the Man of Steel. Link: http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-casts-peter-gadiot-as-mister-mxyzptlk/ THE CW HAS ‘NO PLANS' FOR A SUPERMAN SERIES (Date: 08 Jan 2017) “Tyler did a great job,” The CW President Mark Pedowitz said. “There's no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to ‘Supergirl']. If they wish to have him return, we'd love to have him.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/the-cw-has-no-plans-for-a-superman-series/ THE FLASH Will Weave Kid Flash, Killer Frost And Gypsy Story Arcs Into Remaining Season 3 Episodes (Date: 07 Jan 2017) Armed with that knowledge Barry and his allies will be frantically searching for ways to prepare for an inevitable second round with the God of Speed. As for the rest of Team Flash, the co-showrunner adds that Gypsy (played by the recently cast Jessica Camacho of Sleepy Hollow) will be playing an important adversarial role in Cisco's budding superhero career, Caitlin will continue to wrestle with her Killer Frost alter ego and Wally West will continue to fly off the handle and cause trouble as Kid Flash. We discuss the ethics of Captain Cold and the Rouges as well as the possibility of Deathstorm this week on our Precap!
This episode Rob and Shag wrap-up Villains Month with OCEAN MASTER #1 (by Geoff Johns, Tony Bedard, Geraldo Borges, Ruy Jose, and Rod Reis). The guys also discuss the NYCC and the recently-announced Deathstorm action figure (along with a brief retrospective of the character in molded plastic). Finally the podcast degenerates into a somewhat heated argument about the validity of the Earth-2 Aquaman!
