From curiosity to commercial value: what a year of Agentic AI has taught insurance (410)

InsTech London Podcast

In just twelve months, the conversation around Agentic AI in insurance has changed dramatically.  What began as curiosity about autonomous AI agents has evolved into a much more practical discussion about implementation, governance, economics and competitive advantage.  In this special solo episode, InsTech's Zoja Wojcik reflects on the developments that have shaped the market since InsTech's first Agentic AI event in November 2025. Drawing on conversations with insurers, brokers, MGAs, technology providers and industry leaders, she explores how the industry has moved beyond experimentation and towards a more challenging question: where does the commercial value actually come from?  Along the way, you'll hear insights from Simon Torrance, Erdal Atakan, Gina Gill, Elena Maran, Max Richter and Ian Thompson, alongside examples of how organisations including CFC, McGill & Partners, AIG, Duck Creek and hyperexponential are bringing Agentic AI into real insurance operations.  Whether you're still trying to understand what Agentic AI means for insurance or already evaluating deployment opportunities, this episode offers a practical snapshot of where the market stands today and the questions leaders should be asking next.  Want to continue the conversation? Join us in London on July 7 for 'The age of Agentic AI: from strategy to commercial value'. In this episode:  00:00 - What is Agentic AI and why has it become one of insurance's most discussed technologies?  03:15 - Looking back at the industry's first major Agentic AI event in November 2025  05:45 - Simon Torrance on why Agentic AI should be viewed as a new workforce, not simply another software tool  06:20 - Early deployment examples from across the insurance market:  CFC's Lane Assist   McGill & Partners and Salesforce Agentforce   AIG's AI-driven underwriting initiatives   Federato's agentic underwriting platform   hyperexponential and Banyan Risk   Duck Creek's insurance-native Agentic AI platform   08:15 - Why moving from pilot projects to production remains difficult  10:00 - The defining question of 2026: proving commercial value and ROI  12:15 - Intelligence Capital, competitive advantage and why buying AI tools may only create parity  13:30 - Orchestration, governance and maintaining trust in agentic systems  15:00 - Workforce transformation and practical lessons for insurance leaders  16:00 - What questions should insurance organisations be asking next?  Key takeaways:  The industry conversation has shifted from experimentation towards implementation and measurable business outcomes.   Many of the biggest barriers to adoption are organisational rather than technical.   Boards increasingly expect clear economic justification for AI investment.   Competitive advantage may come less from AI models themselves and more from institutional knowledge and decision-making expertise.   Governance frameworks must evolve alongside increasingly autonomous systems.   Organisations that focus on specific business problems are more likely to succeed than those pursuing AI for its own sake.   Featured contributors:  Simon Torrance, AI Risk   Erdal Atakan, Inigo   Gina Gill, Apollo   Elena Maran, Alethesis AI   Max Richter, Mea platform   Ian Thompson, IMT Advisory  Further reading:  For listeners looking to explore the themes discussed in this episode:  Agentic AI & insurance  Podcast episode: Where is the industry today? – a view from the C-suite (A rare C-suite perspective on Agentic AI: what it is, how it's being deployed and why senior leaders are walking a tightrope between bold innovation and operational risk.)  CFC launches Lane Assist, a live agentic underwriting pilot  McGill & Partners becomes first London Market broker to deploy Agentic AI  McGill + AIG collaboration using AI-driven underwriting  Duck Creek launches insurance-native Agentic AI Platform  Federato RiskOps and Agentic underwriting platform  MGA Banyan Risk deploys hx's full agentic underwriting suite  Strategy & commercial value  Simon Torrance's work on Intelligence Capital   AI Risk research on Agentic AI and enterprise transformation   InsTech & ServiceNow New York event: The future of insurance will be orchestrated, not built  Governance & Responsible AI  Article: The New Frontier: Managing and insuring generative and agentic AI risks with Edinburgh Futures Institute  Podcast episode: Creating a new kind of assurance & insurance framework for AI-related risks (This episode unpacks one of the most ambitious research initiatives currently shaping the future of AI risk in insurance.)

From Ultramarathons to Market Shifts: Scott Sambucci on Leading Innovation

Introduction What happens when a bank finds the right technology but can't touch it for nine months? The procurement bottleneck in regulated financial services isn't just an inconvenience. It's a competitive disadvantage measured in quarters, lost sponsors, and dead deals. Scott Sambucci, Managing Director of North America and Europe at NayaOne, has spent 25 years selling into and building technology for financial institutions, from CoreLogic to Blend Labs. Now he's leading the US and Canadian expansion of NayaOne's sandbox-as-a-service platform, the same infrastructure the UK's Financial Conduct Authority chose to power its own digital sandbox. In this episode, Scott breaks down why the vendor delivery problem is the real blocker to innovation in insurance and banking, and how air-gapped sandbox environments compress proof-of-concept timelines from months to weeks. Guest Bio Scott Sambucci is Managing Director of North America and Europe at NayaOne, where he leads market expansion for the London-based sandbox platform. Before joining NayaOne full-time in January 2024, he spent 25 years in Silicon Valley building and scaling technology companies in financial services, including executive roles at CoreLogic and Blend Labs. Scott is also founder of SalesQualia, a sales coaching firm, and teaches Sales & Marketing at Hult International Business School. A 200-mile ultramarathon finisher, he applies the same relentless-forward-progress mindset to enterprise sales and team building. Key Topics The vendor delivery infrastructure gap — Banks and carriers need 6-12 months of third-party risk management, security, and compliance review before they can even pilot new technology, leaving them perpetually behind nimble competitors. How air-gapped sandboxes collapse procurement timelines — NayaOne's off-estate digital sandbox lets institutions run proof of concepts in weeks because the environment is completely separated from production systems, eliminating the need for individual vendor security reviews. The "vet once, test many" model — Once a bank approves NayaOne as a vendor, any future technology (from Y Combinator startups to CrowdStrike) can be tested inside the sandbox without repeating the TPRM process. Insurance-specific use cases: claims modernization — P&C carriers are using the platform to test AI-driven FNOL triage, claims routing, fraud detection, and payment automation across the full claims lifecycle. Multi-LLM side-by-side assessments — Banks are running comparative evaluations of ChatGPT, Gemini, and other LLMs inside the sandbox, the only way regulated institutions can safely touch these systems before committing. Integration testing with core systems — The platform replicates Guidewire, Duck Creek, Salesforce, and ServiceNow environments so carriers can validate interoperability before making a purchasing decision. Relentless forward progress as a leadership framework — Scott draws a direct line from 200-mile ultramarathons to building a US operation from scratch: plan station to station, leverage the team, and own everything that happens. Notable Quotes "What you've built here is a utility that every financial institution is going to need, whether they know it or not right now." — Scott Sambucci, Managing Director, NayaOne "There's nothing more frustrating than making good progress with your sales demo, having good early conversations, but then being told it's just gonna take nine months for you to fill out all this paperwork." — Scott Sambucci "By nature, every bank out there is going to be twelve months behind their competitive landscape because those competitors don't have those same guardrails yet." — Scott Sambucci "No one's coming to help you. No one can pick you up and take you to the finish line. It doesn't matter how good or bad you feel — you just have to keep moving." — Scott Sambucci Resources Guest: NayaOne: https://nayaone.com/ Scott Sambucci on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottsambucci/ Host & Organization: Joshua R. API-First Insurance: When Brands Become Insurers

The Insurtech Leadership Podcast

Episode Overview What does it actually take to run a digital insurance operation at the system level—not at the chatbot layer, but at the transaction layer? Joshua R. Hollander speaks with Wayne Slavin, CEO and Co-Founder of Sure, about the infrastructure required to deliver true digital insurance in an AI-agent world. Wayne describes Sure's role as "what Visa and Mastercard were in the early days of credit cards"—building the rails for digital insurance distribution. Key Topics 1. What "Digital Insurance" Really Means Digital insurance is not about moving forms online or replacing phone calls with web interfaces. True digital insurance is straight-through processing from quote to policy issuance to payment—mirroring the speed and frictionlessness of e-commerce transactions. Wayne explains: "If that transaction requires some asynchronous process, some process that is interrupted, that we are actually not doing digital insurance." The benchmark: the entire process happens within minutes, not days or weeks. 2. API-First Infrastructure vs. Legacy Core Systems Sure's platform differs fundamentally from monolithic core policy administration systems (like Guidewire or Duck Creek) because it was built API-first with data normalization at its foundation. Legacy cores encourage over-customization, which locks insurers into inflexible, non-compliant systems. Sure's approach standardizes policy data across product types (homeowners, renters, fine art, landlord), enabling rapid changes and integrations. Unlike legacy systems, Sure doesn't force carriers to choose between their existing tech and innovation—it coexists alongside legacy infrastructure. 3. Model Context Protocol (MCP) and AI Agent Integration In February 2026, Sure announced the industry's first MCP server integration, enabling Claude AI agents to interact directly with Sure's infrastructure. MCP is a standardized protocol that allows AI agents to connect to business systems without custom integrations for each use case. This means insurers and brands no longer need 6-12 months of engineering to embed insurance; AI agents can quote, bind, manage, and renew policies conversationally. 4. Why Non-Endemic Brands Will Build Insurance The next major insurance distributors won't be insurance companies. They'll be brands, e-commerce platforms, fintechs, and technology companies with massive customer bases. Wayne's economic thesis: if a brand can convert customers to insurance at 20-30x the typical rate (vs. giving customer data to a third party), the unit economics change entirely. Large brands now have a path to retain customers and data while building insurance revenue. 5. The Transaction Layer as Moat Insurance isn't like retail or travel—regulatory consequences are real, policy admin systems are complex, and compliance layers must operate end-to-end. Sure's competitive advantage lies in building the foundational transaction layer that carriers either cannot replicate internally or would take years to engineer. This infrastructure layer is what enables AI agents to work reliably within compliance and regulatory constraints. 6. Insurance as an Ecosystem The future isn't a single insurer offering multiple products—it's an ecosystem where brands, platforms, and technology companies collaborate on insurance delivery. AI agents, powered by Sure's infrastructure, enable this distributed, composable insurance ecosystem. Key Quotes -"What digital insurance really means is truly a straight-through process where you're starting to get a quote that quote will be a real quote. It's not an estimate. It will become a real policy. You will pay real money. You will get a real coverage document. And the timing of all of that is pretty close to what you expect from regular old e-commerce." -"The next big insurance distributors won't be insurance companies. They will be brands. They'll be technology companies. They'll be fintechs. They'll be AI companies. They'll be companies that are currently sitting on large customer bases that don't have insurance products today." -"Before MCP, if an AI agent wanted to interact with an insurance system, you'd have to build a custom integration for each system, each use case. MCP standardizes that." (TSX-V: RAK) (OTC: RMETF) – On July 14th, 2025 Rackla Metals announced that drilling and had commenced at the BiTe zone on the Grad property NWT.  The Grad property was staked in July of 2024, and immediate prospecting defined strong gold mineralization at the base of the south facing cliff.  Further sampling in August identified significant sheeted veining hosted in the intrusive and that combined with the gold, bismuth and tellurium geochemistry made it clear that the Company had discovered a compelling Reduced Intrusion-related Gold Systems (RIRGS) occurrence that had never previously been identified or staked.   Inflection Resources Ltd. (CSE: AUCU) (OTCQB: AUCUF) – On July 21, 2025, Inflection Resources announced that it completed the acquisition of an 100% interest in a portfolio of copper-gold projects in the Northern Territory and New South Wales, Australia from subsidiaries of Newmont Corporation. This provides the company optionality on how to advance those properties. The main near-term value drivers will be when more assays get released from any of their four projects that JV option partner AngloGold Ashanti elected to advance to Phase II earn-in. The four Designated Projects are Duck Creek, Trangie, Crooked Creek and Nyngan.   Westward Gold Inc. (CSE: WG) (OTCQB: WGLIF) - On July 8, 2025, Westward Gold announced that drilling is underway at its flagship Toiyabe Hills Property in Lander County, Nevada. Over the next several months, Westward will be testing its Campfire Target Complex for the first time, with approximately 5,000 metres (~16,500 feet) of reverse-circulation (“RC”) drilling across this top-priority zone within the ~61 square-kilometer consolidated Property.     * In full disclosure, some companies mentioned by Erik in this interview, are positions held in his personal portfolio, and also may be site sponsors of The Hedgeless Horseman website at the time of this recording.   Click here to follow Erik's analysis over at The Hedgeless Horseman website

Alistair discusses the Company's exploration strategy focused in Eastern Australia, particularly the northern extension of the Macquarie Arc, which is largely unexplored and hidden under sedimentary cover. Despite the challenges of drilling these large undercover targets, new geophysical surveys and technology like ambient noise tomography are being employed to hone in on potential copper and gold porphyry systems.    Recent drill results indicate promising pathfinder elements such as arsenic, suggesting proximity to porphyry systems. Alistair also shares insights into the partnership with AngloGold, which includes a substantial multi-phase funding agreement allowing for continued exploration without financial contribution from Inflection.   If you have any follow up questions for Alistair please email us at Fleck@kereport.com and Shad@kereport.com.    Click here to visit the Inflection Resources website to learn more about the Company.

Ben shares his thoughts on how the organizational structure and culture at American Family provided the support and the resources to build a property risk intelligence platform that helps insurers proactively prepare and respond to severe weather events. From there, they switch gears and talk about climate change, and how changes in the frequency and intensity of hurricanes and floods will lead to more insured losses in the years to come. At the same time, Ben highlights how access to new data sources and exposure visualization tools can provide the industry with a path forward for identifying, quantifying, and mitigating losses from extreme events.  As referenced on the show, last year we recorded a parallel episode with Dan Gumpright, former New Venture Lead at Tenney 110. In this quick hitting, microcast episode of the Conversations on the Creek partner podcast series, Rob Savitsky and Peter Herz of Duck Creek caught up with Charlie Hanna of Hyland at Duck Creek's Formation conference about the impact of mobile on claims processing, and how document management system integrations with core systems are helping insures provide excellent customer service when it's needed most.   To learn more about Duck Creek's integrations with Hyland, go to duckcreek.com/partner/onbase-by-hyland/.   Check out all our other episodes and subscribe to Conversations on the Creek on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and duckcreek.com.

Customer Podcast #1 | Duck Creek expands its podcast series in 2022 to highlight stories of customer vision and real-world experiences as they work with the insurance industry's leading cloud-based SaaS solution provider to remain agile, intelligent, and evergreen. We launch Duck Creek's first-ever customer podcast by highlighting a start-up insurtech. Adiona Insurance, whose motto is "fairness, transparency, and putting the customer first," is a start-up UK-based motor insurtech launching later in 2022. They're working to deliver simplicity, savings and great customer experience through AI and real-time data.   Adiona's story is a case study in "buy versus build" as CEO, Paul Harvey talks about his company's goal to launch in the market and scale quickly using Duck Creek's evergreen SaaS solutions and integrating telematics and AI. Adiona's vision to reimagining the future of motor insurance reflects a modern, data-driven way of conducting insurance end-to-end in the cloud.   Listen in as Adiona's CEO, Paul Harvey, and CTO, Scott Thomson, discuss the insurtech's innovative approach with Duck Creek's podcast hosts, Rob Savitsky and Drake Manning.   To learn more about Duck Creek's partnership with Adiona, visit https://www.duckcreek.com/blog/duck-creek-and-adiona-team-up-to-revolutionise-uk-motor-insurance-with-multi-faceted-saas-solution-and-scalable-business-model/   Check out all our other episodes and subscribe to Conversations on the Creek on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and duckcreek.com.
