DuimpjeSintelen, or something like it? We are going English this Sinterklaas period, with an American born actor-comedian who's ready to stick our national favourite romcom Alles is Liefde in a burlap sack, to send it off to Spain. It is the Dutch knock-off version of Love Actually, but in stead of dressing it up with Christmas the crew drowned in a Dutch holiday tradition. Derek Mitchell has lived in the Netherlands for over ten years and he has already got his Dutch passport. That must have been a doozy for him, with his language and observational skills. You would probably know him from Let's Double Dutch, his online channel on which he lovingly pokes fun at Dutchies. His sketches have been watched over 25 million times. And right now, he is touring his live show, with stand up and sketches. Amongst other things we discuss watching Alles is Liefde as a rite of passage to connect with Dutch culture, the Revenge of the Nerds and blackface scenes in the movie and some famous Dutch folk who've passed from view. It's a bumper transfer special on The Cycling Podcast Féminin this month. In what is proving to be one of the busiest and most significant transfer markets in recent memory, Rose Manley, Denny Gray and Orla Chennaoui discuss all the major moves. With so many of the peloton's biggest champions making the switch, we pick out which transfers excite us and surprise us the most. We'll be discussing the comebacks of former world champions Anna van der Breggen and Pauline Ferrand Prevot in detail as well as looking at the consequences of moves by the likes of Elisa Longo Borghini, Niamh Fisher-Black, Juliette Labous, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and of course Demi Vollering. Our mini feature takes us back to the Tour de France Femmes where Rose and Denny explored why the Dutch always dominated the women's road racing scene. We speak to Team SD Worx's Lorena Wiebes and Mischa Bredewold and former pro Iris Slappendel, and get an outside perspective from British riders Lizzie Deignan and Becky Storrie. Also on the agenda, we ask what would your grandma rather eat: a mint chocolate selection box or a chocolate orange? In this episode Colleen and Allard ditch their usual jokes to respond to a listener who wrote in about having a hard time making a new life as an immigrant/expat in the Netherlands. It's not the first time they've been asked the question: "how the heck do I make friends with the Dutch?!" so they decided to share their personal advice on how to get down with the Dutchies! Oh and you don't wanna miss the first time Colleen tried to make a Dutch friend and the terrible turn it took!! Moving abroad is not for the faint of heart --but if you dare to take a leap outside your comfort zone our hosts truly believe you will reap the rewards!
Send us a Text Message. It is always super fun to talk to fellow Dutchies. Lidi Bus talked about her journey as an artist, how she came about her inflatable design and their colorful combination but also about vulnerability and her quest to break free from average. Born Dutch, Lidi designs and fabricates unique inflatable props and set pieces, definitely not modern art to be stared at in silence. Her creations are striking expressions of applied art aimed at fashion, interior design, product presentations, photo shoots and events. Inflatable items with specific dimensions and colors can be created on request. Break free from average is her motto and she certainly does.Lidi Bus inflatables serve as an extension for storytellers to help them create eye-catching presentations. They resonate with creators who see value in an exceptional approach, and seek to stand out from the crowd. Exclusive, bold and unique. Lidi embraces extraordinary projects, far removed from the mundane, making a statement: average is simply not enough. The very essence of her work is based on a mix of observation, gathering useful and interesting working materials as well as ongoing research into the technical details, including the inflation system and intricate details of finishing. It is from this playful approach that the rough ideas emerge and are then carefully filtered: from broad to narrow, making room for the true concept and final result.Thank you for listening! After a short (and unannounced!) hiatus, Allard and Colleen are back! Find out what has been keeping them both super busy the last 2 months and what their loyal listeners had to say about it! In this episode Colleen and Allard discuss what it means to 'feel at home' somewhere, and how certain cities immediately give you energy while others suck you dry! Allard is curious to hear if Colleen, as a transplanted Canadian truly feels at home in the Netherlands surrounded by all these Dutchies! Is the Netherlands a hard place to integrate? Are international's lonelier in Amsterdam than elsewhere? Can you be homesick for a city that's not “yours”? And ultimately, what does "home" really mean?
Colleen and Allard are back with another episode on all thing Dutch culture! This time, it's one of Colleen's favourite topics: the Dutch wedding! Yes, my friends, the Dutch do wedding *very* differently than North Americans. As you can imagine we talk money as Dutchies maintain their stereotypical "thriftiness" right up to the altar! Want to know why the Dutch don't do wedding planners? (hint: they force their friends to do it for free). Why do the Dutch marry so late? What's the average cost of a wedding in the US vs the Netherlands (hint: we are talking a differences of tens of thousands!) And lastly, what does Colleen ADORE about Dutch weddings? It ain't all bad! :) Allard also puts out a call to listeners: if you are having a big North-American style wedding, he wants to be there!! (..and ps. Colleen is allergic to winter in Holland. So she sounds even more nasal than normal ;)
In this episode Allard gets to ask all his questions about one of his favourite North-American mysteries: highschool! Is it really like what the Dutch saw growing up on TV and the movies? From yellow school buses, to jocks, cheerleaders, school dances and prom - Colleen and Allard discuss what makes the Dutch highschool experience sooo completely different from that of North America. And yes, there are lots of 90201 references (cause that's how Dutchies think it all was like), silly anecdotes and general confusion (why do American highschoolers drink from those big red plastic cups?!). Tune in and don't forget to keep sending us all your questions and topics! We love hearing from you. xo
In this episode I share with you seven frequently used words and phrases and how they are actually spoken. Because, let's be honest, Dutchies don't really speak to you the way you learned from the text-book, toch? De zeven woorden zijn: Nummer 1: Of course - Natuurlijk. Nummer 2: Never mind - Laat maar zitten Nummer 3: Do you get it? - Snap je het? Nummer 4: I've seen it - Ik heb het gezien! Nummer 5: I don't know - Ik weet het niet. Nummer 6: For example - Bijvoorbeeld. Nummer 7: All of us - Allemaal. Let me know if this helps, and if you hear people say these! You can find me on Instagram @mamadutch.teacher or via email mariska@mamadutch.nl Liefs!
Welcome to the Stuff Dutch People Like holiday edition! In this episode Colleen and Allard discuss all the (weird, wacky and wonderful) Dutch traditions around the holiday season. Why do the Dutch have two Christmas days? What do the Dutch typical eat for their Christmas meal? (Hint: it's definitely not a turkey!) How do the Dutch celebrate New Year's? And why do so many Dutchies insist on starting their year off —naked?! Grab an oliebol and some gluhwein and come celebrate the vrolijk feestdagen with us!
Allard and Colleen are back bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for a new season of Stuff Dutch People Like! And what better than jumping right into the most beloved Dutch holiday season?! That's right - Sinterklaas! As promised, this season will have its fair share of guests. This episode welcome Charlotte Bouman, a long-time friend of Allard, who just happens to have something in common with Mister Sint himself. Allard, Colleen and Charlotte get down to business discussing everything from Sint's sweet treats ('borstplaat' anyone?), to Piets, pakjes and pepernotten! Join us in celebrating the season when nearly all Dutchies finally have a smile on their (formerly black)face. Long live the Sint! (p.s. don't tell Allard we started the episode with a blooper! When will he be able to pronounce the name of our show?! )

He's one of our peers, a long time friend of the show, he's been a big deal in media circles for quite some time and he's embarking on a new business venture with Smoke Masters Barbecue. Scott Masters joins us to chat meat, music, footy, pies and life after radio. And this week 20 years back, the grisly murder that rocked Australia, the death of a grunge superstar that really hit hard and the Dutchies pass a very controversial measure. On a lighter note, we were bitching about petrol back then too and a bunch of kitchen gadgets were destined for the tip.Hang with us on socials to chat more noughties nostalgia - Facebook (@tminus20) or Instagram (tminus20podcast).
The one where I talk about physical strength as an essential component of masculinity. Women are beautiful, men are strong. If you're a man and you're not strong then you're doing it wrong. Also, tensions in the Middle East, further adventures in the land of the Dutchies, and why cyclists are indeed wankers. It's all here together with your usual dose of high energy no fucks given. Originally broadcast November 8th, 2017.
This week's podcast focuses on my article about there being no short cuts in life. Also, I go to a Dutch social occasion where the ugly side of Dutchies is out in full force – no place is perfect, my friends. It ain't all tulips here in Holland either. Link to the podcast episode from the Cynical Libertarian Society that I refer to in this episode. Originally broadcast November 1st, 2017.
So I took 150mgs before I started then another 100mgs 5 minutes in so this was a fun and wild episode. In somewhat of an order, the edibles and I talked about, Whoopi the non teenage, still mutant, non ninja, full turtle. I talk about Joe “N word” Rogans controversy and why it's a distraction. And then I forget what else happens. Manny isn't real. Birds aren't real but they're more real than him. Anyway share it with likeminded people! Ps I tried uploading it 5 times last night and it never worked so hopefully it does now
This week I talk about suicidal thoughts! Always contact your local support if you have that! For the Dutchies it is 113. Also, I zoom into identity development for people with an eating disorder. A lot of perspective on suicidal thoughts in this episode and my own experiences. Want to work with me? Go to iamstuffed.nl or @iamstuffed_com
Hello all! On this episode we're fashionably late, but we got all the news for the week! We discuss all the driver signings and news, we discuss Zandvoort and Monza, and Vince eats a Chili Pepper!
This podcast is most probably the tastiest one of the bunch. Robert Wittenberg, brand manager at Dudok brought a Dudok Sing Along cake for us to taste. For all the Dutchies out there, you know what their apple pie is like right!? Eurovision officially has a flavour after today and we are happy to share our thoughts in this cake. Together with Annemieke van Wegen Delhaas, head of R’dams citydressing team, we discuss how this year's slogan; ‘Open Up’ launched itself into the world and just how infectious the excitement can be.
Hi everyone, For this week’s episode, we decided to tackle the rather dense and multifaceted topic of bike infrastructure. To put it short, bike infrastructure refers to all means of city infrastructure that can be used by cyclists. Generally, the face of bike infrastructure is the very controversial bike lane. Both drivers and cyclists can love or hate the bike lane. To some, it’s a godsend (Looking at you Dutchies), while to others, it’s more of an underdeveloped and misused lane that puts cyclists at more risk than riding on the road. Does perfect bike infrastructure solve all problems? Do cyclists and/or drivers need to change or adapt how they move through the city? Does this even matter to fixed gear riders? We discuss these questions and more, while also incorporating our own experiences riding in different places plus those of people living in other countries! Episode 48. Questions about the body and (non) gender identity with Sam J Robbins. “They can handle gay, but they can’t handle they.” .This episode is with the beautiful Sam Robbins from New Jersey….. We speak about the body, the yoga body, the dance body and body awareness, and also about the notion of gender being a social construct, but also that our bodies are as real as they can be, gender is a real thing. Sam shared their experiences growing up in the world of dance, being given more masculine based roles, or sometimes even roles Sam feels they didn’t deserve just because Sam was perceived as a “man”. Plus we discuss their own work, the future of stage and performance in New York City and the age of zoom…… .Please listen, share and care, leave a review, we appreciate it so much! .The blog this episode is based on: https://www.onstageblog.com/features/questions-about-the-bodyFind Sam here. @sam.j.robbinsPlus I am referring to Alfie’s episode. And learn more about our partner, The National Home Front Project at Washington College's Starr Center.

Clare and Rebecca visit one of Europe’s famous markets for mulled wine and Christmas spirit. But some of the continent’s traditions aren’t such shining examples of good will to mankind. Half-goat monsters, defecating cartoon logs, and Dutchies wearing black face are also part of the tradition.
This week's podcast focuses on my article about there being no short cuts in life. Also, I go to a Dutch social occasion where the ugly side of Dutchies is out in full force - no place is perfect, my friends. It ain't all tulips here in Holland either.
