Have you ever felt like you're doing everything "right" according to everyone else's checklist, yet something feels profoundly missing? Margaret White knows that feeling all too well. As a self-proclaimed recovering perfectionist and former overachiever, she found herself waking up one morning with the stark realization that despite her successful career, marriage, and all the external markers of achievement, she was utterly depleted. This powerful conversation takes us through Margaret's transformative journey from living by others' expectations to discovering what she calls "soul alignment." With refreshing candor, she shares the moment that changed everything – when she canceled her husband from their vacation and spent two weeks alone in the Caribbean, reconnecting with herself and hearing the whispers of her intuition for perhaps the first time in years.Margaret challenges conventional wisdom around work-life balance, suggesting we should instead seek harmony – a dynamic dance that ebbs and flows rather than a tightrope walk of tension. "We were never intended or created to work from depletion," she explains. "We were created to be poured into so that we could then give of our gifts, time, and talent to others."The discussion dives deep into what it means to get over "the overs" – overachieving, overstriving, overfunctioning, overcompensating, and overcommitting. For women who find themselves perpetually stuck in these patterns, Margaret offers practical wisdom for breaking free and creating space for what truly matters. She simplifies the often-elusive concept of alignment: "Alignment really comes down to how you're choosing."Whether you're feeling caught in a hamster wheel of busyness, struggling with permission to prioritize your needs, or simply seeking more meaning in your daily life, Margaret's parting wisdom will stay with you: "Don't shrink to fit into spaces you're not meant to be in." This episode is for anyone ready to move beyond external validation and into the powerful place of living authentically, loving abundantly, and thriving unimaginably.Connect with Margaret and come along on the retreat. What happens when we wake up in midlife and realize we've become someone we never intended to be? Award-winning playwright and filmmaker Brooke Berman joins us to explore this profound question through the lens of her debut feature film, "Ramona at Midlife," which recently premiered at Geena Davis' Bentonville Film Festival.Brooke shares her remarkable journey from acclaimed playwright to first-time film director at 52—a rare achievement in an industry where first-time directors are typically men under 35. Her candid reflections on creating an authentic female leadership style reveal the delicate balance between collaboration and direction on set, shooting an entire feature in just 15 days. The conversation takes unexpected turns as we discuss the liberation that comes with midlife awakening. When we were 25 and imagined our future selves at 50, most of us pictured someone who had "done the heavy lifting" and was essentially coasting. Reality proves far more dynamic and challenging, but also more rewarding than we ever anticipated. Most powerful is Brooke's insight about self-acceptance: "If I don't love the person I am right now in my imperfect skin, then what are we talking about?" This revelation, alongside her disciplined approach to self-care through morning rituals of meditation, yoga, and gratitude practices, offers a blueprint for thriving in our fifth decade.Whether you're approaching midlife, navigating its complexities, or looking back on it, Brooke's story will inspire you to embrace your authentic self and recognize that evolution doesn't end at 50—it often accelerates in the most beautiful, unexpected ways.Connect with Brooke. Listen now, and then watch "Ramona at Midlife" on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, or Fandango at Home to continue the conversation about reinvention and self-discovery.Ready to FEARLESSLY FACE all the F WORDS – be inspired and encouraged? Host Nick Parker and Jason Norbury discuss the exciting progress on Lee's Summit's new downtown farmers market and performance space on Green Street, set to open in August after years of planning. The duo also covers the early announcement of two mayoral candidates — business owner and City Council member Cynda Rader and current Mayor Pro Tem Beto Lopez — who are already positioning themselves for next year's election. The episode takes a somber turn as they honor four recently deceased community members who made significant contributions to Lee's Summit: Andy Lock (Third Street Social owner), Jody Fristo (arts advocate), Peggy Doughty (Blue Heron owner), and Brad Rackers (theater director and teacher). The show closes with audio from a previous interview with Rackers about his "F Word" speech on failure and learning.

Fearlessly Facing Fifty and beyond - What does it mean to see yourself through a lens of beauty rather than criticism? This question forms the heart of my conversation with former Ford model turned photographer Kristen Jensen, who has mastered the art of capturing authentic beauty in everyone she photographs.Kristen's journey began in front of the camera, traveling to 34 countries during her 20-year modeling career. But it was the moment she picked up a Hi8 camera and started filming behind the scenes that she discovered her true calling. "I was used to being photographed, but I wanted to be on the other side," she explains. This transition from being seen to seeing others became her superpower – the ability to look at people through what she calls "a soft lens" that reveals their inherent beauty. As we navigate our 50s and beyond, many women experience a dip in self-confidence and struggle with visibility. Kristen's perspective offers a refreshing antidote: "It's not about perfection, that's not what sells. It's about energy." This wisdom extends beyond photography into how we present ourselves in every aspect of life. Whether starting a business, moving to a new community, or simply facing another day, authenticity trumps perfection every time. Our conversation explores the challenges of reinvention – from building new friendships to redefining purpose. We discuss the importance of having cheerleaders in your corner when taking risks, the reality of aging bodies that require different care, and the poignant experience of losing parents. Through it all, we return to the central question that defines this stage of life: "Who am I now?"Ready to see yourself through a kinder lens? Listen now to discover how embracing your authentic self – wrinkles, imperfections, and all – might be the most fearless act of all. Then join our community of women who are choosing courage over comfort every day as they fearlessly face their futures.Connect with Kristen hereReady to FEARLESSLY FACE all the F WORDS – be inspired and encouraged? The following timely commentary by Laura Flanders aired on GritTV in the summer of 2014. At the same time as the Iraq Sinjar crisis, Gaza was experiencing the 2014 Gaza War (Operation Protective Edge), a 50-day conflict between Israel and Hamas that began in July 2014. The war involved intense Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion in response to Hamas rocket attacks, resulting in over 2,000 Palestinian deaths (mostly civilians) and significant destruction in Gaza. Israeli casualties included 67 soldiers and six civilians. The US response in Gaza was primarily diplomatic. I will not compare death to death. I will not compare I will not compare… “Welcome to my morning mantra. It's been a long hot news summer and it's important to remember the rules. Under prevailing US media law, you may not compare a killing to a killing. You may not say the word Palestinian for example and then in the same sentence, say Yazidi. You may not compare. You may not compare… The rules are very clear, especially when it comes to the Middle East.I, for example, may not compare destruction to destruction. It is best, in fact, if I do not even contemplate or wonder about men and women and children trapped without food and medicine and drinking water under siege on a mountain top, and at the same time, contemplate or wonder about men and women and children trapped without food and medicine and drinking water under siege on a place near a beach.A mountain under siege is not to be compared to a beach besieged. That's simple enough. After all, a mountain is very different from a beach.I will not compare. I will not compare… In particular I will not compare a destroyed mosque in Mosul with a destroyed mosque in Khuzaa. And I absolutely will not compare the motivations of the uniformed soldiers whom I hear laugh and cheer on a videotape out of Gaza as they explode that mosque in Khuzaa, with the motivations of any men anywhere committing war crimes.- Even if I can't get that laughter and cheering out of my head.I may not compare, I may not compare. Why? Because comparisons are odious, of course, and politics is complicated. You heard the president, the U.S. "cannot and should not intervene every time there's a crisis in the world.”Some require the U.S. to act to help the people besieged. Some require the US to act to help the people doing the besieging. To compare is to risk blurring the differences and the differences are all important. To recap the rules: it is wrong to compare. You can not say: a life is a life. You can not say words like oil and money and markets. You can not ask what's the difference between a mountain and a beach.I'm Laura Flanders. Is it possible to be both a feminist and a Christian? The one thing that comes to my mind when I think of Christianity is the patriarchy a.k.a. the antithesis of feminism. From how Eve doomed mankind in the tale of Adam and Eve, to the perpetuation of gender roles, Christianity has brought with it rigid and harmful depictions of women. Can my mind be changed? In this episode, I'm joined by Blessing, a self-declared feminist and Christian. I will be asking her about her religious and feminist beliefs and experiences to determine if one can truly be both. Swinging from moments of light-hearted chatter to earnest discussions, this episode dissects the stereotypes and borders that divide the two identities.

The silences that follow our "no" speak volumes. As women, we've mastered saying the word itself, but it's what happens after—that uncomfortable pause—where we often surrender our power. In this eye-opening conversation, author Amy Wilson discusses her new book "Happy to Help: Adventures of a People Pleaser," revealing how deeply ingrained the people-pleasing tendency becomes in women's lives. When Amy tells us that people-pleasing is "putting other people's wants and needs before your own," she's describing the unspoken assignment given to every mother, every woman. Yet this societal expectation exacts a serious toll, from strained relationships to physical illness. What makes this discussion particularly powerful is Wilson's ability to distinguish between life's unavoidable challenges and the optional burdens we assume. "When you've got a sick parent and a sick kid at the same time, you're not a people pleaser—you're just somebody with too much on your plate," she notes, helping listeners separate necessary responsibilities from those taken on purely out of obligation or need for external validation. The conversation explores "socially prescribed perfectionism"—the researched phenomenon where women internalize impossibly high societal standards—and offers refreshing perspectives on female friendships, writing discipline, and self-compassion. Wilson's advice to her younger self resonates deeply: "When hard times come, they're hard because they're hard, not because there's anything wrong with you."Whether you identify as a people pleaser or simply find yourself perpetually overwhelmed, this episode provides both validation and practical wisdom for reclaiming your boundaries without sacrificing meaningful connections. Listen now for a transformative conversation that might just change how you respond the next time someone asks for "just one more thing."Connect with Amy Wilson Click here:Ready to FEARLESSLY FACE all the F WORDS – be inspired and encouraged? Who could talk for over an hour and a half about the Daniel Radcliffe/Adam Driver-starring romcom? James Thornton and Andrew Hunter Scholey can of course.... Take the romantic plunge as they discuss the careers of the film's young cast, some random hot takes about relationships and dating and ultimately.... Why did no one see this (mostly) charming take on the old genre.

In this episode of Tami Talks: Unscripted Healing, Tami explores the fear of disappointing others—and how it often stems from childhood experiences and a deep belief that love is conditional and can easily be taken away. From childhood trauma to adult relationships, Tami explores how this fear often roots itself in the belief that disappointment equals a withdrawal of love. Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.Fearlessly Facing FACING our FUTURE FACES!What happens when a Broadway makeup artist discovers her true passion lies in making everyday women feel beautiful? Laura Geller's remarkable journey from theater makeup to beauty mogul reveals the power of authenticity and the magic that unfolds when passion meets purpose.Laura shares the pivotal moment that changed everything - working one-on-one with real women at a makeup counter and watching them transform not just physically but emotionally. "I'd see them starting to come alive as I would make up their face...holding their head up higher," she explains. This spark ignited a business that would eventually take her to QVC, where she amazingly sold 750 units in just six minutes during her first appearance. The conversation takes a fascinating turn as Laura discusses her decision to focus specifically on women over 40, a demographic often overlooked in the beauty industry. Drawing from her own experiences with aging skin, Laura developed products addressing the unique needs of mature women while keeping application simple. Her authenticity shines through as she admits she didn't always have the business acumen needed, setting prices too low initially, but learned and adapted along the way. Most poignant is Laura's passion for women's stories and her mission to champion them at every age. When asked how her son views her, Laura's answer is immediate: "He would tell you that I'm a badass." Her parting wisdom resonates deeply: "Don't be in a rush. Good things take time...stay in your lane." In a world obsessed with youth and instant success, Laura Geller stands as living proof that embracing your authentic self and serving others with genuine care creates enduring impact.Ready to discover makeup that truly understands your skin's needs? Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show. And the F WORD IS: FASHIONFearlessly Facing Fashion as we age with Fashion designer, Karla Murguia, Founder of the Montsera Collective. Karla's story is a masterclass in following your soul's calling, no matter how daunting the journey might seem. From her comfortable position as a digital editor at Elle magazine in Mexico to the bold decision to start over in New York City, Karla demonstrates what happens when we choose courage over comfort. The conversation unfolds like a vivid tapestry, revealing how Karla's fearless spirit led her from prestigious fashion houses in Manhattan to remote villages in Chiapas, Mexico. There, she formed profound connections with indigenous women artisans who create magnificent textiles using backstrap looms—a technique they've learned since childhood. These artisans don't simply create fabric; they weave their cultural identity, community markers, and ancestral symbolism into every piece. What strikes you most about Karla's journey is her unwavering commitment to authentic collaboration. When taxi drivers refused to take her to villages protected by armed guards, she walked alone toward uncertainty. When communication barriers arose with artisans who speak Mayan dialects, she learned key phrases to honor their culture. Rather than imposing her designs, she invites the weavers' creative wisdom into every piece, establishing relationships built on mutual respect rather than exploitation. The Montsera Collective represents something far more significant than beautiful clothing—it's a bridge between worlds, a preservation of heritage, and a model for ethical fashion. As Karla's father wisely advised her, "Burn your boats"—commit fully to your path without the safety net of retreat. Through periods of doubt and tears, she persevered, understanding that meaningful success is "a marathon, not a sprint."Ready to be inspired by courage in action?
