THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today's Fireside Friday is all around PLAY! Somewhere along the way, a lot of us were given the message that to be an adult/leader/productive person in the world means that you can't waste time with frivolous endeavors (playing for the sake of playing, coloring, creating something we want for our home/garden, REST) that we needed to get our list done before we can take time to do those things. What would happen if instead of EARNING our play, we started with it? Could that change our state and actually make us better at the tasks/relationships/goals on our list?! ABOUT: Welcome to a Fireside Friday Recording. Every Friday morning I tap in and pour out messages and words meant to fuel your fire, Fire Starter! These messages are to encourage, empower and activate you deeper in your calling and initiatives that you want to see through. grounding and encouragement every Friday morning.Want to add this to your calendar? THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today's Fireside Friday was calling us into deeper gratitude for where we've been, not just focusing on what we want to improve/grow/change, but really allowing ourselves to take stock of OURSELVES. Taking time to reflect and create a TO DONE list instead of a TO DO list ... where can we appreciate what we've stood for and worked through? ABOUT: Welcome to a Fireside Friday Recording. After 1994's The Stand proved to be a monumental hit, ABC and other networks were intent on bringing other Stephen King properties to the small screen. This is why we got things like The Langoliers, The Tommyknockers, Kingdom Hospital, among others. But 20 plus years later, there were once again rumblings that The Stand was going to be adapted, this time with one film for the big screen. Directors like David Yates (Harry Potter) and Ben Affleck came and went from the project, all not knowing how they were going to keep the magnum opus book to one film. Enter Josh Boone (New Mutants) and Benjamin Cavell (Justified). With James Marsters (X-Men) and Alexander Skaarsgard (Big Little Lies) amongst many others -including two extremely toxic actors with turbulent personal lives- the nine part miniseries came and went at about the worst time imaginable for a piece of fiction about a virus that wipes out the world, which was the end of 2020. Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they review all nine episodes -including a brand new coda written by King himself- and determine if this is the ultimate version of The Stand. Come back next week, as the boys start their dive into the adaptations of King's first 80s novel, Firestarter.

THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: In today's Fireside Friday, I was struck at the onset of this call with a profound sadness, so if you're feeling sad today, this one is absolutely meant for you! Today's message is all around leaning into the idea that everything in our life is breaking us open to more love. That could look like grief, a job loss, a break-up... how allowing ourselves to be witnessed and known in our lives no matter what we're facing can always lead us to more expression and expansion if we'll let it. THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today's Fireside Friday dances with the idea that we are always keeping company internally AND externally. It's challenging us to take stock of the stories that we're allowing ourselves to tell AND the remarks, experiences and relationships that we're marking our lives with. Are we feeling expanded by being with ourselves? Are we feeling encouraged by those we spend time with? Leading at the level of our soul asks us to begin by facing inward and really examining how the company we're keeping is either fostering our flame or snuffing out our light! THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today's Fireside Friday was about remembering that often things that we've disowned or tried to change about ourselves has come from someone telling us that we needed to look/be/behave/believe differently. The truest way to love and lead the world in our most vibrant energy is to take back anything that someone has told us to abandon or change... to remember that we're not weeds, but instead vibrant flowers that exist in beauty just as we are! THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today's Fireside Friday is all around breathing into who we are before we learned how to be anyone else. How the safety and friendship we cultivate with our own soul is sacred work that leads us to show up in the nourished, held and profound ways that we are here to be/do. The longest relationship in this life is the one that we have with ourselves... let's make it a good one :) An intentional, allowed, fulfilled one. "No matter what we navigate, adversities or joys alike, there are elements of who we are that are innate. I don't think they change just because circumstances change. I actually don't think we change at all. We just evolve."Mallory Weggemann was just 18 years old when a series of routine epidural injections for back pain left her with no movement from the waist down. Now, 17 years later, Mallory is a gold medal paralympian; an author, filmmaker and motivational speaker; and a fierce advocate for the disability community. In 2021, Mallory released her memoir LIMITLESS to share her journey and to empower others to overcome life's obstacles. And last year, Mallory and her husband released Watershed, a powerful documentary about her life story, including the couple's struggles with infertility. On top of that, Mallory brought home gold and silver medals from the Paralympic Games in Paris, making her a seven time medalist.During this conversation, Mallory and I discuss how she fell in love with the sport of swimming, what helped her navigate the trauma of becoming paralyzed, and the kinds of conversations she hopes to spark about disability in the world. Mallory's drive and determination to achieve the seemingly impossible, her advocacy on behalf of others, and her refusal to give up even when things seem insurmountable make Mallory Weggemann a Firestarter. To read more inspiring stories from Firestarters like Mallory, preorder my book “Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age” at firedupbook.com.My new book Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age, is available for preorder! "I hope I've helped to create a framework where people find a way and feel like their voice can make a difference because I have seen how just one voice can make a difference."In 2022, after 18 months of fertility treatment, Texan Amanda Zurawski and her husband learned she was pregnant. However, at 18 weeks, doctors told Amanda she had miscarried. And then, because of Texas's abortion ban, those same doctors denied Amanda the healthcare she urgently needed and she nearly died from septic shock.Amanda has since become an advocate for abortion and reproductive care, and was the lead plaintiff in Zurawski v. Texas, the first lawsuit brought by patients challenging a state on its abortion bans since the fall of Roe v. Wade. Her case is featured in a new documentary by the same name.Earlier this year, Amanda was named a TIME Woman of the Year, a very deserved honor. As you listen to Amanda tell her story, you'll hear how brave and fierce she is, how her life has been turned upside down in all the right ways, and what's next on her journey from athlete to communications professional to an incredible advocate for women's rights. A scoop of Firestarter, a dash of IT, and just a soupçon of Carrie and The Shining — Stephen King's novel The Institute is like a bowl brimming with the author's greatest hits. But does it go down smooth? That's what the Losers' Club asks in their episode about the 2019 tome, which takes readers inside the eponymous Institute where a mysterious gaggle of doctors, scientists, and thugs subject psychically-touched children to terrible tests, many of which border on pure torture. Join the gang as they dissect what the story has to say about friendship, U.S. foreign policy, and the youth of today. Questions abound! Can King write modern kids as well as he can those of the ‘50s and ‘60s? How does the paranoia of early books like Firestarter and The Stand factor in here? Does adding “-ster” to someone's name make for a good nickname? They also comb through the book's reviews and King's pre-release interviews to puzzle over the relentless comparisons to the crisis at the Southern border. Weird stuff.
THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today you'll hear me explore what it means to become an authentic leader... you're going to have to do it awkward. Yep, it's awkward before it's elegant. I am seeking to learn how to embrace more of that process and lean INTO the awkward instead of wish it way or want it to be different. The "shoulds" around it being different are usually things we learned from the world around us... always wanting to present something finished/polished/perfected, but the real secret I'm seeking to embrace is that the awkward part is actually just LIFE. Can you embrace more of your awkward? Maybe we can do it together! Now I Become Myself May Sarton (1912–1995)Now I become myself. It's takenTime, many years and places;I have been dissolved and shaken,Worn other people's faces,Run madly, as if Time were there,Terribly old, crying a warning,“Hurry, you will be dead before—“(What? Before you reach the morning?Or the end of the poem is clear?Or love safe in the walled city?)Now to stand still, to be here,Feel my own weight and density! The black shadow on the paperIs my hand; the shadow of a wordAs thought shapes the shaperFalls heavy on the page, is heard. All fuses now, falls into placeFrom wish to action, word to silence,My work, my love, my time, my faceGathered into one intenseGesture of growing like a plant. As slowly as the ripening fruitFertile, detached, and always spent,Falls but does not exhaust the root,So all the poem is, can give,Grows in me to become the song,Made so and rooted so by love. Now there is time and Time is young.O, in this single hour I loveAll of myself and do not move.I, the pursued, who madly ran,Stand still, stand still, and stop the sun!ABOUT: Welcome to a Fireside Friday Recording. THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today's Fireside Friday was about being TIRED. Part of this is from the time change, but another level of it, is simply poor stewardship of our own energy. If we want to love and lead at the level of our soul, that means that we have to create time and space to give her what she needs. AND the only way we know what she needs? Learning to listen to her instruction. Advocating that we actually have time and space TO listen... Choosing to take time, space and effort in tending ourselves IS loving others well. God may use suffering to lead us to trust Him; our response will determine our condition when the hardship has ended.
Faithfulness is our responsibility—God handles the results.Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego show us how to stand firm in the face of persecution. When commanded to bow to a false god, they refused, declaring that God could save them—but even if He didn't, they would still remain faithful. Their story reminds us that true faith isn't about seeking rescue but trusting in God's sovereignty, no matter the outcome. In the end, their faith not only saved them but also made God's name known to an entire kingdom.Need Prayer?

+++ PLAYLIST +++ · 22:56 – SABATO von ALESSANDRO GIANNELLI · 22:52 – WATERTREES von SUPERNOVA EASY · 22:50 – I'VE BEEN DOWN von HAIM · 22:44 – TELL ME HOW TO BE HERE von LAEL NEALE · 22:40 – RICHARDSON von SHURA FEAT. In the summer of 1948, a peaceful farm outside Macomb, Illinois, became the site of one of the strangest fire outbreaks in history. Hundreds of blazes erupted out of nowhere, scorching walls, igniting furniture, and consuming entire buildings—all without any identifiable cause. At the center of the mystery stood 13-year-old Wanet McNeil, a girl accused of arson despite reports that the fires ignited when she wasn't even in the room. Was this a case of pyrokinetic activity, an extreme emotional outburst manifesting in the physical world, or something even more sinister? Join Gary and GoldieAnn as they explore Within the Mist of Illinois for the truth of the eerie events of the Willey farm, the desperate search for answers, and the lingering doubts that leave this case unsolved to this day. Tune in and decide for yourself—was Wanet truly to blame, or did something paranormal stalk the farm that summer? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

"If you don't have the confidence, you have to have the courage"--Teresa Bowser I absolutely loved when Teresa said this as we discussed why she signed up for the Fierce Dragon Firestarter 100. Already an extremely difficult race (that very few want to even attempt), the crazy weather took the difficultly to another level. This race started in snow, turned into slush, back to ice and THEN came the pouring rain. It takes a special person to even start this race in ideal conditions, but if you know Teresa, you know she has the fight and the grit to give it absolutely everything she has. And this is what she did, and STILL had a blast. Listen to hear the details of her experience and ultimately why she had to walk away...not defeated, but even more ready for what comes next. As she would say, "no coulda woulda shouldas' for her. Teresa, I LOVE your joy. ... If you haven't listened to the first episode I recorded with Teresa, I would highly recommend that you do. You will love her even more.
