Au Sénégal, les activités minières du français Eramet sont accusées de détruire le désert de Lompoul et le tissu économique de la bande des Niayes. La société Grande Côte Opérations (GCO), détenue à 90 % par l'entreprise minière française Eramet et à 10 % par l'État sénégalais, exploite depuis 2014 le zircon le long de la côte atlantique au nord de Dakar. Mais depuis quelques mois, les maraîchers riverains de la mine mobile se plaignent de la perte de leurs ressources économiques et des compensations trop faibles pour laisser passer la mine.  De notre envoyée spéciale de retour de Lompoul, Au loin, une gigantesque pompe de l'entreprise minière recrache du sable. À 150 mètres, la terre du champ que nous traversons est sèche, les aubergines et les oignons couverts d'une fine couche de sable, un vieux souvenir.  Maïmouna, qui exploitait cette parcelle d'un hectare, est dépitée : « J'avais un grand champ et je gagnais beaucoup d'argent. L'année passée, j'ai récolté beaucoup d'oignons, mais depuis que la mine de zircon est passée, le sable a recouvert la pompe solaire, ma motopompe est cassée et je n'ai plus d'eau. »En cause, selon cette agricultrice qui gagnait jusqu'à 3,2 millions de FCFA par mois grâce à ses récoltes, l'arrivée de la mine mobile d'Eramet et de sa gigantesque drague au printemps dernier. Celle-ci filtre le sable sur 10 à 15 m de profondeur, pompant aussi l'eau sur son passage pour extraire le précieux zircon, devant le champ de Maïmouna.À quelques kilomètres de là, au milieu des dernières dunes du désert du Lompoul, c'est un campement touristique qui est cerné. Ici, la mine mobile filtre le sable jour et nuit à moins de 200 mètres de l'écolodge. C'est la dernière infrastructure touristique depuis que la mine a commencé à exploiter la zone il y a un an. Les six autres ont été indemnisées, mais Birame Mbaye Ndiaye, co-gérant de l'établissement, résiste, car les enjeux économiques sont importants. « Le tourisme, c'est une activité transversale. Il y a le vendeur de cacahouète, le vendeur de légumes, le vendeur de viande, tous ces gens et les employés qui gravitent autour », rappelle l'hôtelier. « Nous, on est une entreprise indépendante, reconnue par l'État, c'est comme s'ils achetaient notre entreprise, car on va fermer après. Nous, ce qu'on demande, c'est qu'on soit dédommagé à notre juste valeur », revendique Birame Mbaye Ndiaye.À lire aussiAu Sénégal, l'exploitation du zircon menace le désert de Lompoul« Le Sénégal n'y gagne rien »De son côté, le maire de Diokoul, l'une des localités par laquelle passe la mine, demande un moratoire et une enquête parlementaire. Je pense que le Sénégal n'y gagne rien », affirme l'élu.Dans un rapport, le collectif de défense des Niayes, composé de membres de la société civile, a calculé que si l'on cumule sur les dix dernières années, l'entreprise minière a reversé moins de cinq milliards de FCFA à l'État par an. When we think about getting pregnant, it's always focused on the physical body.  But what about the role the mind plays in the body? We forget the tremendous toll that stress, anxiety and depression play upon our nervous system. And we pay a high price for that forgetfulness.  Women diagnosed with (my least favorite word) “infertility” experience stress, anxiety and depression levels much higher than in the mainstream population. This is cause for concern in itself.  But what makes things worse, is that those mental states have physical repercussions that negatively impact fertility.  So, women given this diagnosis are now at a double disadvantage because they're already struggling, but being labeled “infertile” makes it even harder to conceive because of the observable impact that diagnosis has on the nervous system.
