The screenplay was adapted by Gersten from her own play, Body of Work, which she based on her visits to the Jubilee! show shortly before its closure in 2016.The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2024, and began a limited theatrical release in the United States on December 13, before expanding on January 10, 2025. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with Anderson garnering critical praise. Anderson received nominations for Best Actress at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards and the 31st SAG Awards while Curtis received nominations for Best Supporting Actress at the latter as well as at the 78th BAFTA Awards.
According to Larry David, it is much too late to still wish you a happy new year. Since January has felt a million years long and many of us are yearning to press that RESET button, I'm breaking all the rules and wishing you a good start to 2025! It was a delight to chat with Kate Gersten, screenwriter of "The Last Showgirl." Kate originally conceptualized the story for the stage while studying playwriting at Juilliard. As a play, THE LAST SHOWGIRL was optioned for Broadway and the West End, but never went further as the team could never find the perfect, “Shelly.” After spending years in a drawer, Kate brought the script to Gia Coppola, who got the script to Pamela Anderson directly. In their first table read, Pam said every line exactly how Kate had heard them in her head all those years earlier. Tune in as we discuss her playwright beginnings, the kismet of marrying into a legendary film family, and the importance of leading roles for women over the age of 50. xx Carolina
Kate Gersten is best known for her work on the Golden Globe winning series MOZART IN THE JUNGLE and the Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated comedy THE GOOD PLACE. Her first feature film, THE LAST SHOWGIRL, based on her play A BODY OF WORK, premiered at TIFF earlier last year and stars Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dave Bautista. The film is directed by Gia Coppola. THE LAST SHOWGIRL follows a seasoned showgirl who must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a 30-year run. In this interview, we talk about her journey as a writer, the adaptation of THE LAST SHOWGIRL from play to film, the process of casting Pamela Anderson as Shelley and her connection to the character, the inspiration for writing about showgirls, and much more. A French production adapted from Audiard's opera libretto, which was loosely based on Boris Razon's 2018 novel Écoute, the film stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez. The story follows a Mexican cartel leader (Gascón) who enlists a lawyer (Saldaña) to help facilitate their transition into a woman to escape their criminal life. Featuring original songs by Camille, a score by Clément Ducol, and choreography by Damien Jalet, the film was shot in Île-de-France from May to July 2023.Premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Emilia Pérez received international acclaim for its lead performances, direction, themes, and musical score, winning the Jury Prize and Best Actress award for its female ensemble. However, the film polarized audiences, with criticism in Mexico for cultural misrepresentation, stereotypes, and poorly executed Spanish dialogue, while some LGBTQ groups objected to its portrayal of gender transition. Despite this, it made history at the Golden Globes, winning four awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and earning Karla Sofía Gascón a nomination as the first trans woman in the Best Actress category. Selected as France's submission for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards, it was also named one of the American Film Institute's top 10 films of 2024, cementing its status as a groundbreaking yet controversial cinematic work.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

As the barrier to founding a beauty brand is lower than ever, there is also more opportunity to spot the next big thing earlier in brands' life cycles. Private equity firm True Beauty Ventures "was really born out of a frustration ... and being restricted on the types of businesses [we] could invest in," said TBV co-founder and general partner Cristina Nuñez on the latest episode of the Glossy Beauty Podcast. Nuñez, the former gm and COO of Clark's Botanicals, had been approached by her co-founder, Rich Gersten, about building a beauty- and wellness-specific firm that could invest at the earliest stage. "[Prior, Rich] couldn't invest in any brand without a minimum check of $10 [million] or $20 million," she said. True Beauty Ventures' sweet spot is between the $1 million and $3 million check size, and it has the goal of further supporting brands with more capital as they grow. Since founding True Beauty Ventures at the height of the pandemic, Nuñez and Gersten have invested in emerging brands like K18, Maude and Crown Affair, and best-in-class brands further along in their journey like Moon Juice.

Earned: Strategies and Success Stories From the Best in Beauty + Fashion
In Episode 58 of Earned, Conor sits down with beauty investor Rich Gersten, co-founder and Managing Partner of beauty-focused growth fund (and newly announced Tribe Dynamics partner) True Beauty Ventures. To start the episode, Rich walks us through his career trajectory, unpacking his transition from private equity to venture capital, before explaining how he wound up investing exclusively in beauty brands. We then learn why he founded True Beauty Ventures at the end of 2019 to provide capital and guidance to smaller beauty businesses. Next, Rich shines a light on the qualities that distinguish a successful investor, emphasizing that the investment business is all about pattern recognition, so specialization is key. We also hear which characteristics of effective brand founders make Rich keen to invest, before learning about the metrics and KPIs that he values most. To close the show, Rich shares the knowledge he gained from investments that didn't turn out as expected, and how those takeaways have informed True Beauty Ventures' brand mentorship program.

A quick monthly update from our cabin in the mountains while we enjoy some summer R+R. We were inspired by the crisp, mountain air and solitude to do some reflection. What does it mean to be a practitioner? A researcher? And how can we use recent discussions of police brutality to check our own treatment of clients? We even came upon a hiking Dr. Cody Morris to join us. So, find your own zen place of reflection for some research-discussion goodness. Articles for July 2021 From Research to Practice Kazdin, A.E. "It's not so much what you're doing — it's why are you doing it?" Welcome to the first episode in a four-part series called Feel-Good Fridays. These short episodes are intended to leave you feeling lighter, better, more optimistic — whether temporarily or for the rest of your life. These conversations with experts are meant to be uplifting without being fluffy or delusional. We're kicking things off with Rachel Gersten and Jor-El Caraballo, licensed therapists and co-founders of Viva Wellness, a private therapy practice in New York City. In just 20 minutes, Rachel and Jor-El will help us all breathe a little easier. They bust some common self-care myths, and offer tangible advice on how we can all take better care of ourselves right now. (And, if nothing else, "eat some pie.") A great, and I think very relevant quote to take away from this episode: "This isn't the Feelings Olympics. Your feelings are valid. They're real. They mean something to you. Perspective is important, but don't let that stop you from also experiencing whatever you're feeling." Feel-Good Fridays on the Ali on the Run Show are brought to you by UCAN. Rachel Gersten is a New York City-based therapist and health and wellness coach with a passion for helping people lead their healthiest lives possible. She completed her undergraduate degree at the Arizona State University where she double majored in psychology and human development, then attended Teachers College Columbia University and earned two master's degrees (Ed.M., M.A.) in Psychological Counseling. Since then she has worked in a variety of settings providing mental health services and therapy to clients, and most recently co-founded Viva Wellness, a holistic wellness practice and company located in Brooklyn. When she's not working, you can find her running in Central Park and in every race possible, cheering on her sports teams, and planning the next time she's going to eat. Being an entrepreneur often sounds a bit more glamorous than it actually is, so we set out to learn more about Rachel Gersten’s experience as Co-founder of Viva Wellness. Reflecting on our question to discuss some of the highs and lows of entrepreneurship, Rachel explains, “Generally, we don’t share the struggle enough and that can lead to people having comparison issues, and especially with social media highlighting everything that looks pretty. But, no - we need to talk about the things that are hard too. The biggest thing I think for me, that I was not expecting, when transitioning into being an entrepreneur, is that I was prepared for the increased workload, I was prepared for work on the weekends, and days that are crazy. And I knew it would be a balancing act in terms of scheduling, but what I was not prepared for was the emotional toll of it because you can’t leave work at work anymore, you are work.” Joining us to share her story, Rachel talks about the connection between mental and physical wellness, using fitness as a tool for managing her chronic pain, lessons learned as an entrepreneur, and staying balanced by shifting the slices of the ‘pie’ that is life.
In the last few years, there has been a boom of investments in the world of beauty. Brands like Glossier continue to receive massive rounds of funding, and join the elite club of beauty brands that have received valuations of over $1 billion. According to Rich Gersten, a partner at Tengram Capital Partners who has been investing in beauty companies for over two decades, these success stories have created a flood of money and attention from private equity investors. In this week's episode of The Glossy Podcast, beauty editor Priya Rao sits down with Gersten to discuss what he looks for when investing, why being a clean brand is no longer a differentiator and whether massive valuations on the regular are the new norm.

Two stories from those who challenge reality by contacting other spirits, dimensions, portals, and voids. How? Ancient mind-altering ceremonies and leaps of faith. Diego Palma is a healer. Kush is a shaman. Both are located in Peru. Their methods for spiritual discovery include medicine songs, mantras, icaros, tobacco smoke, and ayahuasca. Ayahuasca is a brew made from the caapi vine and the chacruna shrub. Amazonas have used ayahuasca for centuries. When ingested, it opens the mind to cosmic possibilities. Peter Gersten is a retired lawyer. In 1987, he sued the United States Government for UFO information. Years later, Gersten began following visions and signs which led him to Sedona, Arizona. He began to believe reality was a simulation that could be manipulated by action. On December 21, 2012, Gersten traveled to the top of Bell Rock, a butte with an elevation of 600 ft. There, he believed a portal would open that could take him to the center of the universe, but only if he jumped into it. Produced by Garrett Crowe, Mike Martinez, and Tyler Wray.
