Rico Brouwer joins us again from the Netherlands to discuss his relentless activism and how he feels the world is headed in a mad direction. He comments on the alternative media space, particularly in the Netherlands, and the censorship, narcissism, and financial difficulty in the industry. Tyranny is descending upon the West, but he also sees hope because the news of this totalitarianism is spreading quickly thanks to the internet. He comments on the idea of strategic relocation and his venture to Paraguay. Europe and the EU is a jurisdiction you want to move out of. They will take us to war. The Channel: A Podcast from the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS)
This episode features a conversation hosted by Aarti Kawlra, the Academic Director of the Humanities Across Borders program here at IIAS, in which she speaks with three guests: Daan van Dartel, Curator of Popular Culture and Fashion at the National Museum of World Cultures in the Netherlands; Lipika Bansal, a researcher, social designer, and the founder of Textiel Factorij in Amsterdam; and, finally, Kirit Chitara, an artist based in India. In September 2022, IIAS and Humanities Across Borders hosted an In Situ Graduate School entitled Textiles and Dyes as Transnational, Global Knowledge. As Aarti and others collaborated on this event with various textile-related institutions, she met this group and heard the story of Kirit, who had previously found the artwork of his grandfather hanging in the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam. This raised all sorts of perennial questions about power in the production and display of art, and in this conversation, the groups discusses such issues of provenance and attribution, of curation and collaboration. In the 2007 film, Shift Happens, Carl Fisch (later modified by Scott Mcleod) stated that “The top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004. We are currently preparing students for jobs that don't exist yet, using technologies that haven't been invented, in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet.” Although the 65% figure has been debunked quite often and the data that was used during the video cannot always be verified, it is safe to say that the jobs of today, have evolved quite a bit since 2004. In addition, a lot of these fields are Global, rely a lot on technology and the use of code, like Python. In this podcast series, we will speak to professionals in the field that have jobs in industries including Fintech 3.0, Cybertechnology, Ethical AI, and Data Science We welcome Michael Galarnyk. Technology is modernizing and evolving faster than we have ever seen before. As a result, IT professionals and companies are scrambling to play catch up in an industry that’s growing and changing every single day. Host Michelle Boockoff-Bajdek sits down with Michael Yoo, Customer Market Leader for Skillsoft’s Technology and Developer Portfolio, and Angie Okamoto, Vice President of Product for Global Knowledge to discuss key findings from Skillsoft’s Global Knowledge 2021 IT Skills and Salary Report, uncovering what organizations can do to overcome IT skills gaps. The short answer? Companies must invest in the growth and development of their IT talent in order to keep up.
We took a look at the top-paying certifications for 2021 (so far) and not to our surprise, out of the 15 certifications listed, the top 3 were all cloud certifications! The list came from Global Knowledge and you can check it out here. We also vented some frustrations with Cisco and where they're at as a company trying to compete in the modern age. If Dean and Pat had to start over again in IT, they would both go cloud. The “big 3” players at this stage of the game are AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Azure. Each provider has a “free tier” of gear that you can spin up and get familiar with, if you're interested in signing up, use the links. Like us? The evidence is clear: effective teacher professional development (TPD) needs to include ongoing and individualized support to teachers to impact teachers' instruction, and subsequently student learning. Shanghai's policies and investments have created a great teacher workforce that is supported by clear learning standards, regular and aligned assessments, and a balance of autonomy and accountability in school management. Today, we are speaking with Liang Xiaoyan and Zhang Minxuan, co-authors of the World Bank report “How Shanghai Does It” (https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/education/publication/how-shanghai-does-it ) to learn about the key features of the Shanghai education system that attract and develop an excellent teaching force. We discuss how lessons from the Shanghai experience can apply and be relevant to other countries around the world. Zhang Minxuan is a Professor and Former President of Shanghai Normal University and Head of UNESCO Teacher Education Center and Liang Xiaoyan is a Lead Education Specialist in East and Southern Africa for the World Bank Education Global Practice. Elaine Ding, Analyst in the Global Knowledge and Innovation unit of the World Bank's Education Practice, moderates the conversation.
People have many reasons for getting technical certifications. It can be a stepping stone to a new job. It can be a way to show off what you've learned over the years. And some people collect them to prove their professional expertise across a variety of technologies.IT companies create certifications for many reasons as well. It can help customers get the most value out of the product. It can help reduce support costs, which frees up company resources to focus on innovations and new products. And it can help ensure that their partner ecosystem is fully up to speed on all the latest and greatest developments in their product. But none of those reasons matters if no one is aware of your certification, or it has no value to the overall industry and job market. That's why salary surveys like the ones produced by Global Knowledge, Robert Half, and others are so important. They poll the industry globally and find out what areas are growing, what areas may be declining, and help IT professionals make educated decisions about how to guide their career for the future.Host: Harvey GreenCo-Host: Jirah Cox

The bulk of growth in higher education today is happening globally as demand picks up for massified educational systems designed to boost economic growth and competitiveness. Nonetheless, “global higher education” is a complex phenomenon. Many institutions—and institution types—make up this diverse landscape, which consists of “world-class” research institutions, teaching focusedinstitutions, vocational schools, and online for-profits. In this episode of Thinking Outside the Sandbox, deputy director of research Brian Fleming explores the megatrends of globalization, massification of higher education, and the global knowledge economy with Dr. Phillip Altbach, professor and founding director of the Boston College Center for International Higher Education. Dr. Altbach also discusses findings from his most recent book, Global Perspectives on Higher Education, and his view of the future of the teaching university. Sandbox is pleased to present this episode as part of our ongoing coverage of megatrends and the future of higher education.

So, as you might guess, networks are a powerful tool for the social sector. My guest for the 180th Terms of Reference Podcast, is exceedingly passionate about networks. Sara Farley is the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of the Global Knowledge Initiative, an organization that builds purpose-driven networks to deliver innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. Aaron and Brian talk with Ryan Kroonenburg (@acloudguru and @KroonenburgRyan, AWS Cloud Architect) and Anthony Stanley (@IamStan, AWS Cloud Architect) from A Cloud Guru about their passion for teaching, how they created A Cloud Guru, the framework for achieving AWS certifications and some examples of learners that got a big bump in pay after completing the courses. This show is sponsored by Intel Cloud for All - http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/cloud-for-all/cloud-for-all.html A Cloud Guru Homepage - https://acloud.guru/ AWS Certified Solutions Architect - #1 Paying Certification - http://www.globalknowledge.com/training/generic.asp?pageid=3855 Some insight into how A Cloud Guru is using AWS Lambda to build their architecture to scale and reduce costs: https://read.acloud.guru/why-serverless-with-aws-is-a-game-changer-3cb37e25f638#.hfb74n8ig https://read.acloud.guru/serverless-the-future-of-software-architecture-d4473ffed864#.gmgtxc920 https://read.acloud.guru/serverless-user-interfaces-stealing-the-best-of-mobile-for-the-web-802e1e8a30cb#.jcxc8bxal Topic 1 - Before we get into what A Cloud Guru does, let’s talk about your backgrounds. Where have you been and what made you want to start this business? Topic 2 - Let’s talk about A Cloud Guru. What does the site offer and what can “learners” expect from the training courses? Topic 3 - Ryan mentioned in the introduction video that he trained 30,000 people on AWS last year (or the last couple years) and you expect to reach 100,000 this year. That obviously means a lot of people using this platform to guide them. Tell us about the early feedback and things people want you to add? Topic 3a - Every new business has a plan or a set of expectations. What has been the unexpected that you’ve seen and heard from the market? Topic 4 - There was a recent survey from Global Knowledge that AWS Certified Solutions Architect is now the #1 Paying Certification. You mentioned that only 2000 people have that certification today, which feels a lot like the Cisco CCIE in 1997. Any ideas how much demand there is for that level of AWS certification? Topic 5 - Obviously you’ll see a number of individuals taking the courses, but are you starting to see corporate update as well? Can companies buy bulk licenses from A Cloud Guru?
