Joining Jill and Doron on the 36th episode of the podcast, the eighteenth and final of our second season, to tell us his story is British journalist Matthew Engel, who attended Carmel College from 1959 to ‘69, preceded by his two older brothers. Matthew attended Manchester University and became a journalist, mostly for The Guardian and later the Financial Times. Initially, he specialized in sport, and has covered over 70 different sports, from cricket and football to tiddlywinks and underwater hockey. Over the years, he reported on just about everything, including the First Gulf War, the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9/11 - and from all seven continents, the South Pole included. He lives on a farm in rural Herefordshire, where he is now a county councillor, with his publisher wife Hilary of 34 years, their daughter Vika, and their two dogs, three cats and three horses. Hear Matthew talk about Carmel's horsehair mattresses; listening to ‘Around the Horn'; ‘what's wrong with the world today'; smoking in the pillbox; becoming known as the school cynic; an attempt to bribe the school barber; Carmel's moment in The Guardian's newsroom; the golden age of newspapers; and the most important piece he ever wrote, “The Day the Sky fell in” (see https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2005/dec/03/familyandrelationships.health). Come Listen to our sermon series on the book of Matthew!
Jesus came to establish the TRUE Temple. He is the Temple. The dwelling of God. The one who ushers in the Spirit of God with HIS people. The one who sacrificed all so that we no longer carried the burden of sacrifice. The one who atoned for our sins so we would no longer have to offer atonement. The Temple is purged. Yet so many cannot hear the praise of the outcasts who praise HIM Why? Because they are focused on their own control of their own lives … of their own sin. This is why the chief priests and scribes could not hear the praise of Jesus without indignation. It is the humble. The children. The ones with no hope gifted from other men who worship the ONE gift worth expressing thanks. Jesus is the gift with a Magnificent Name. Who are we to worship HIM? Who are we that Jesus would be happy to hear our praises? Jesus gladly accepted the praises of the children … gladly accepted the praises of the crowds rejected by the elite. Can you hear the praise of Jesus? Or are you indignant at the thought of HIM?

Dear Matthew, I'm 23, making 90k, work at a top company but I am so miserable. I feel privileged for saying this but I am so unhappy with my life and don't know what to do. I graduated college in 2019 and never really pursued my passions or even took the time to figure out what my passions are. I studied finance because I had to pay off school and needed a decent salary to pay off my loans. So here I am. I literally feel like I'm not even living my own life. Some days I want to quit my job and just move somewhere else. I'm not sure if this is crazy or if I would turn 30 and regret throwing away the 'successful' lifestyle. Advice? (Matthew - Field Recording) In this episode, I had the honour to have Matthew as my guest. He shared with me his interest in field recording as his hobby. Definition: Field recording is the term used for an audio recording produced outside a recording studio, and the term applies to recordings of both natural and human-produced sounds. It also applies to sound recordings like electromagnetic fields or vibrations using different microphones like a passive magnetic antenna for electromagnetic recordings or contact microphones. For underwater field recordings, a field recordist uses hydrophones to capture the sounds and/or movements of whales, or other aquatic organisms. These recordings are very useful for sound designers. There's a reason for 11a. There's an 11b coming next. The topic and discussion on trust was too solid, too valuable with too much information to put all the content into a lengthy episode, hence the 11b coming up. Trust follows the prior episodes of Gratitude and Vulnerability and really hits home to close out the trilogy in the module on the Epicenter of Wealth. This is what it's all about. The human centric value of trust. Hear Matthew and Jim identify the extent to which trust plays into, not only the relationship with people, but how it can affect everything around you; yes, including your money and perception of wealth.
