James DiEugenio returns to discuss the latest developments in the JFK case—including an important lawsuit. We also discuss more material from Jim's latest book—co-authored with Paul Bleau, Matt Crumpton, Andrew Iler, and Mark Adamczyk—The JFK Assassination Chokeholds: That Inescapably Prove There Was a Conspiracy. DiEugenio is the screenwriter and co-creator of Oliver Stone's JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass as well as JFK: Destiny Betrayed—the four-hour cut of the film which is now available for purchase. Jim also runs the fantastic Kennedys and King website and is the author of Destiny Betrayed: JFK, Cuba, and the Garrison Case as well as The JFK Assassination: The Evidence Today and JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. He also runs the Kennedys and King website. Special thanks to Dana Chavarria for producing the episode!
We (mostly) kept JFK conspiracy talk out of our 11/22/63 episodes, as the story is best enjoyed on King's terms. We did, however, think it would be enriching to chat with some smart people about King's assertion that "it is very, very difficult for a reasonable person to believe" that Lee Harvey Oswald wasn't the lone shooter. Previously, we spoke with Brendan James of Blowback about the book, Oswald, and King's political evolution. You can find that episode just a bit further down the feed. Now, we're speaking with Jim DiEugenio, one of the leading experts on the political assassinations of the 1960s. Jim is the author of two books about the Kennedy Assassination, one of which was the basis for Oliver Stone's documentary JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. He also has a new book out, The JFK Assassination Chokeholds and a website, KennedysandKing.com, that's loaded with resources. Since Jim knows Kennedy scholarship like the back of his hand, we chatted with him about the research materials King cites in the afterword to 11/22/63, the ones that make him “98 to 99 percent” sure that Oswald acted alone. Jim also wanted to discuss an interview King did with filmmaker Errol Morris for The New York Times in November 2011, so it may be worth it to hit pause and give that interview a read before listening. The episode also contains spoilers for 11/22/63, in case that's a concern. We hope you enjoy. Stay tuned for "Pt. 6: The Green Card Man" -- dropping this Friday. On today's show, researcher Paul Bleau describes how textbooks still teach, unfortunately, the discredited Warren Commission version of who killed President Kennedy, and he walks us through the new anthology, THE JFK ASSASSINATION CHOKEHOLDS THAT INESCAPABLY PROVE THERE WAS A CONSPIRACY. GUEST OVERVIEW: Paul Bleau is JFK assassination researcher with many articles on KennedysandKing.com, a member of CITIZENS AGAINST POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS, and a contributor, with James DiEugenio, Matt Crumpton, Andrew Iler, and Mark Adamczyk, to the new anthology, THE JFK ASSASSINATION CHOKEHOLDS THAT INESCAPABLY PROVE THERE WAS A CONSPIRACY. Oliver Stone said this book proves beyond all reasonable doubt that “Oswald, given a real trial, would have been acquitted.” Paul is a regular guest on BlackOp Radio and other podcasts. And he appeared in the documentary JFK REVISITED: Through the Looking Glass, by Oliver Stone. https://www.kennedysandking.com/

JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass is a 2021 American-British[1] documentary film about the assassination of John F. Kennedy directed by Oliver Stone, based on the 1992 non-fiction book Destiny Betrayed: JFK, Cuba, and the Garrison Case by James DiEugenio and on newly declassified evidence about the case.[2][3] It premiered on July 12, 2021, in the Cannes Premiere section at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.[4][3] Stone described it as "an important bookend to my 1991 film. It ties up many loose threads, and hopefully repudiates much of the ignorance around the case and the movie".[2] The film is narrated by Whoopi Goldberg and Donald Sutherland.[5]
Today, The Two Mikes hosted James DiEugenio who, for the past 30 years, has been researching the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King. On his first visit with us we discussed the assassination of JFK. Mr. Di Eugenio explained that there is still a good deal to question about who in the U.S. government is in control of declassifying documents. It is always reported that the president has the ultimate right to declassify whatever he decides ought to be made public. During President Trump's administration, after promising to release all of the remaining classified JFK documents, however, Trump stepped back from a complete release at the last minute. Why? Mr. Di Eugenio says that, based on his research of assassinations, the FBI and the CIA probably suddenly arrived at his office and claimed that to release the documents would be to knowingly endanger national security, the lives of Americans, or both. Being ultimately responsible for protecting the country and its people it is not surprising that Trump stood down. This is a scenario that would be familiar to most presidents since 1945. In terms of the JFK assassinations, Mr. Di Eugenio said his research had produced a number of intriguing facts: --1.) The authorities gave the name of the man who took the photographs at JFK's autopsy in Dallas as John Stringer. When Mr. Stringer was latter shown the pictures and asked if he had taken them, he said no. The photographs were not taken by Mr. Stringer, and, as well, were taken from a camera model that he did not own. --2.) In the summer of 1963 the CIA was running a group of Cuban exiles called "Fairplay for Cuba." At that point in time the CIA's chapter in New Orleans had only one member -- Lee Harvey Oswald. --3.) CIA says that Oswald went to Mexico in late September/early October 1963 to visit the Cuban embassy. Mr. Di Eugenio said that his research shows that the CIA had two plants working inside the embassy and both later told their handlers that Oswald had never entered the embassy. The foregoing is just a snippet of the interesting information that was related by Mr. Di Eugenio, whom we hope pays us another visit and tells us more. --Mr. Di Eugenio's book, written with Oliver Stone, is called JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass (Skyhorse, 2022). One of the most controversial directors to emerge from the 1980s is definitely Oliver Stone. A Vietnam vet with a strong political bent, he first plied his trade as a screenwriter on movies such as 1978's Midnight Express, 1983's Scarface and 1985's Year of the Dragon, before moving into directing with two masterpieces that came out within months of each other, the James Woods fact-based thriller Salvador (1986) and the stone-cold Vietnam classic Platoon. From there, his career kicked into high gear, with him known for casting a critical eye at some of the most controversial events and personalities of modern times. His best movies include 1988's Wall Street (which won an Oscar for star Michael Douglas), 1989's Born of the Fourth of July (which proved to people just how outstanding an actor Tom Cruise could be), 1991's The Doors and JFK (still perhaps his most controversial film), 1994's Natural Born Killers, 1999's Any Given Sunday and many, many more. While his output has slowed in recent years, Stone's as prolific as ever; he's just turned his attention to documentaries such as The Putin Interviews and JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. Join us as we take a deep dive into his remarkable career on this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity.

Calling this episode a discussion about sound is really an understatement. Because, although Dean Hurley has been David Lynch's official “sound guy” for many years, it's clear that you're getting way more with this guy than a conversation about audio. We won't spoil things, so just listen and enjoy the ride. ———————————— Dean is a sound designer, re-recording mixer, and composer best known for his collaboration with film director David Lynch. Hurley operated Lynch's Asymmetrical Studio from 2005 - 2018, where he collaborated extensively on the sound and music for an array of Lynch's film projects, commercial work and music albums. In 2017, Hurley served as sound and music supervisor for the return of Lynch's iconic Twin Peaks on Showtime. He has also supervised and mixed projects for directors like Werner Herzog, Randall Wallace, and most recently 2021's ‘JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass' for Oliver Stone.
Jim DiEugenio is a writer, known for JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, JFK: Destiny Betrayed and King Kill 63 and is one of the most respected researchers and writers on the political assassinations of the 1960s. Jim is the author of "Destiny Betrayed," about the Garrison investigation of the Kennedy assassination, first published in 1992, with a second, greatly revised edition issued in 2012; and "Reclaiming Parkland," published in 2013 and reissued in expanded form in 2016, which offers a detailed critical examination of the Warren Commission's evidence and conclusions, along with an analysis of the CIA's influence in Hollywood. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/out-of-the-blank-podcast/support
Many leaders in the skeptic community have proven themselves to be untrustworthy sources of information on the topics they speak about. They've misled me often about what others believe and why. Moreover, genuine skepticism seems to be far less important to the skeptic community than the kind of conclusions one comes to. Failure to adopt the required list of beliefs disqualifies one from being a real skeptic, it would seem. In today's episode, I talk about how my atheism caused me to gravitate towards the skeptic community, and how the same subject caused me to drift away. We also discuss how skeptics mishandle the subjects of theism, parapsychology, the JFK assassination, 9/11, and aliens. For the record, this should not be seen as a comprehensive treatment of the topics raised (e.g. conspiracy theories). My framework was the following: Skeptics told me conspiracy theorists believed X for reason Y, but they were often wrong on both counts. I used a few examples, but I wasn't aiming to provide a full account of what 9/11 truthers believe, or what alien abductees think, nor was I trying to defend a rejection of the Warren Commission. I especially shied away from that last topic, since it's a bit different from the others for me. In the case of the JFK assassination, I'm more solidly on the side of the conspiracy theorists. Along with the majority of Americans, I don't accept the Warren Commission. In episode 262, Shermer speaks with Oliver Stone about: the relationship with truth in dramatic films vs. documentary films; how the world would be different if JFK were not assassinated; why diplomacy and trade agreements are necessary with Russia, even now after the invasion of Ukraine; the Cuban Missile Crisis, U.S. Jupiter missiles in Turkey, and Nikita Khrushchev's response; Putin's justifications for Soviet/Russian actions in Hungary, Afghanistan, Georgia, Chechnya, Syria, and Crimea; what he thinks Putin would say to justify the invasion of Ukraine; why he thinks we can't trust Western media; U.S. foreign policy and how he thinks it is just as aggressive as Russia's; and his moral equivalency argument for American vs. Russian aggression. Oliver Stone studied at Yale University, taught English in South Vietnam, and served in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army where he earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He then attended film school at NYU and studied under the acclaimed director Martin Scorsese. Stone won his first Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Midnight Express (1978) and won his second and third as Best Director for Platoon (1986) and Born on the Fourth of July (1989) respectively. Stone also wrote the screenplay for Scarface, which went on to become one of the most iconic films in history. His directed several documentary films, including Comandante (2003), the Putin Interviews (2017), and the controversial JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass (2021).
This week, we're unpaywalling our extended interview with multiple-Oscar-winner Oliver Stone. His new documentary Ukraine on Fire has been censored by Youtube, but you can still see it on Rumble. He wrote and directed multiple classic, culture-defining American movies. He created groundbreaking documentaries, interviewing Putin, debunking Russiagate, and uncovering JFK's murder. He won three Academy Awards. There was only one thing left for Oliver Stone to do: Become a Useful Idiot. Stone's new documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, uses newly declassified and reexamined footage to present a case that conspiracy theories about the president's death are actually “conspiracy facts.” And it creates a big debate on Useful Idiots. Watch the pod, watch the doc, then let us know: do you agree with Matt, Katie, or Oliver? Who really killed President John F. Kennedy? The Oscar-winning filmmaker shares stories of censorship, getting yelled at about Russiagate by Bill Maher (kinda like another Useful Idiot we know), and being pushed out of the mainstream for being a controversial filmmaker, cementing his legacy as a Useful Idiot. Plus, watch Matt's reaction when one of his all-time favorite directors quotes his “vampire squid” piece. It's pretty cool. It's Oliver Stone on Useful Idiots. Don't miss this one. Oliver Stone has become known as a master of controversial subjects and a legendary film maker. His films are filled with a variety of film angles and styles, he pushes his actors to give Oscar-worthy performances, and despite any setbacks or critiques, his tenacious nature has always returned him back to success. He's a three-time Oscar winner, and although he has mostly been stung by critics of his films, he remains a well-known name today in the film industry. The films he directed have been nominated for 31 Academy Awards, including eight for acting, six for screen writing, and three for directing. There is no denying that Stone has cemented himself a position among the legends of Hollywood. Thirty years after acclaimed director Oliver Stone's first examination of JFK's assassination, Stone reassesses the horrific event that shaped a generation in his new documentary JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. Using newly declassified and reexamined footage, Stone presents a case that conspiracy theories about the president's death are actually “conspiracy facts.”

In Part 8 our Destiny Betrayed series on the JFK assassination, Aaron continues his discussion with James DiEugenio. They cover Vietnam and other key aspects of President Kennedy's foreign policy. Collectively, JFK's plans to end the Cold War and his support for Third World nationalism represented a radical break from the imperialist Acheson-Dulles consensus which had prevailed since the end of World War II. Unfortunately, Kennedy's visionary plans placed him in the cross hairs of the US Empire's beneficiaries. These amoral members of the American power elite commanded the world's leading corporate, military, and political organizations. James DiEugenio is the screenwriter and co-creator of Oliver Stone's new documentary JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass as well as JFK: Destiny Betrayed, the four-hour cut of the film coming to the US in late February. Taken from James DiEugenio's 2013 book, Reclaiming Parkland, we get into a sort of primer for the uninitiated. There are many aspects to the murder of JFK but one thing seems to be a constant, and that is Lee Harvey Oswald was not a “lone nut,” and the infamous “single bullet theory,” was a fabrication. The Warren Commission had more in common with the Washington Generals than an actual investigation. In addition to the DiEugenio book, we highly recommend Oliver Stone's Showtime documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. This is the second part of our Destiny Betrayed series on the JFK assassination. In this episode, Aaron talks with David Talbot about his book, Brothers: The Hidden History of the Kennedy Years.Published in 2007, Brothers tells the story of the Kennedy presidency as experienced by many of the people who worked with and knew John and Robert Kennedy. Among other things, the book definitively established an important missing part of the era's history. Drawing from dozens of interviews with the living members of the Kennedy circle, Talbot revealed how Robert Kennedy came to learn that his brother's assassination was the result of an operation involving the CIA with help from the agency's mafia and right-wing Cuban friends. Brothers also revealed that RFK planned to reinvestigate his brother's murder once he got to the White House. Tragically, the Senator was himself assassinated before that could happen.David Talbot also appears in the new Oliver Stone documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. Streaming now on Showtime, the film was written by Jim DiEugenio--author of Destiny Betrayed and The JFK Assassination: The Evidence Today. This episode also features contributions from Abby Martin of The Empire Files. Abby recently returned from a trip overseas, during which she grilled Nancy Pelosi about Pentagon pollution in front of an international audience. For full episodes go to https://www.patreon.com/CovertActionBulletin. EPISODE #658 JFK: CONNECTING THE DOTS PT. 4 Richard welcomes a renowned JFK Assassination researcher who discusses Lee Harvey Oswald's alleged visit to Mexico City in September 1963. The day after Kennedy's assassination, the CIA claimed they had photographs and taped telephone conversations of Oswald in Mexico City trying to obtain the necessary documents that would allow him to return to the Soviet Union. Further, the CIA claimed to have a recording of a telephone conversation between Oswald and Valery Kostivkov, a KGB assassin who was stationed at the Soviet consulate in Mexico City. Conveniently, this information was not passed on to the FBI in Dallas prior to the murder of JFK. It was given to the Warren Commission who would then use this and other evidence to conclude Oswaldand Oswald alone was responsible for Kennedy's murder. However, DiEugenio reveals that despite the fact that both the Soviet and Cuban Consulates in Mexico City were heavily monitored by the FBI and the CIA, no reliable evidence was every presented proving Oswald was there. On this edition of Parallax Views, earlier this year a curious new book was published dealing with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Co-written by R. James Woolsey, former Director of the CIA under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1995, and Ion Mihai Pacepa, a former Romanian spy and a noted, high-ranking Eastern Bloc defect during the Cold War, Operation Dragon: Inside the Kremlin's Secret War Against America argues that the JFK assassination was the result of a plot involving the Soviet Union's Nikita Khrushchev and Cuba's Fidel Castro. Lee Harvey Oswald, the book claims, was instructed by Khrushchev to kill President Kennedy. According to Woolsey and Pacepa, Khrushchev actually called off the plot for fear that it might be discovered and lead right back to him as one of the perpetrators. What Khrushchev did not count on, say Woolsey and Pacepa, is that Oswald would go rogue and carry out the assassination plot in spite of orders to the contrary. In other words, Operation Dragon alleges that President Kennedy's assassination was the result of nefarious Soviet treachery. Is Operation Dragon just another entry in dizzying array of theories positing an alternative to the Warren Commission Report's oft-contested findings concerning the fatal shooting of a sitting President of the United States in Dallas, TX on November 22nd, 1963? Perhaps. Then again, most books that challenge, in varying degrees, the official line on the Kennedy assassination aren't written by ex-CIA Directors. But the curiosity of the book's co-author, the aforementioned James Woolsey, penning a book dealing with the Kennedy assassination doesn't end with his status as the former highest-ranking official in the CIA. In addition to his tenure as DCIA, Woolsey served as U.S. Under Secretary of the Navy in the late 1970s and was involved in negotiations with the Soviet Union in the 1980s. In other words, he was in the thick of it, so to speak, during the Cold War. Most curiously of all, however, when it comes to Woolsey is his connections to the neoconservative foreign policy movement and his penchant for promoting various conspiratorial fears about foreign countries even prior to the publication of Operation Dragon. A member of the notoriously hawkish neocon think tank The Project for a New American Century (PNAC) before its dissolution in 2006, Woolsey has stoked fears that North Korea could use electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapons against the United States and was also a notable proponent of the theory that al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein's Iraq were involved in the Oklahoma City Bombing. Since the publication of Operation Dragon, Woolsey has appeared on the right-wing outlet Newsmax to promote his theory about the Kennedy assassination. This, combined with his neoconservative inclinations and conspiratorial musings that align quite well with the bolstering of a hawkish, pro-war agenda, raises the question of Woolsey's political motivations in promoting what The Daily Beast has referred to as a "QAnon-style spin" on the Kennedy assassination. Joining us to pushback against Woolsey's JFK assassination theory and place it within the context of his hawkish neocon history is returning guest James DiEugenio, the leading figure behind the website Kennedys and King, writer for the upcoming Oliver Stone documentary JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, and author of such books as Destiny Betrayed: JFK, Cuba, and the Garrison Case, Reclaiming Parkland: Tom Hanks, Vincent Bugliosi, and the JFK Assassination in the New Hollywood, and The JFK Assassination. DiEugenio argues that not only is Woolsey's Kennedy assassination theory wrong, but that it is representative of a certain brand of foreign policy thinking in Washington, D.C. that sociologist C. Wright Mills would refer to as "crackpot realism". Before delving into Operation Dragon, however, Jim fills us in on the latest news concerning the fight to declassify and release the last of the JFK records. We discuss how President Trump, despite at times signaling to the contrary, helped keep the records declassified during his Presidency. Now said records and their review for declassification lay in the hands of President Joe Biden. Then we shift our attention to Operation Dragon and discuss the problems with the book's claims that theoretical physicist and "Father of the Atomic Bomb" J. Robert Oppenheimer and British Prime Minister Clement Attlee were secretly Soviet spies, the relationship between Woolsey's theories on the Kremlin and the paranoid "Monster Plot" of the CIA's James Jesus Angleton, a brief history of neoconservatism, Woolsey's neocon credentials, the relationship between the narrative of the Cold War promoted by Woolsey and the ideas of the far right-wing John Birch Society, James Angleton and the origins of the idea that Lee Harvey Oswald was a KGB agent or asset,, Operation Dragon as a retread of the narrative put forth in Edward Jay Epstein's 1992 book Legend: The Secret World of Lee Harvey Oswald, Norman Cousins and the quest for détente with Khrushchev's Soviet Union, French journalist Jean Daniel's meeting with Fidel Castro in Havana on the day of Kennedy's assassination , Kennedy and rapprochement negotiations with Cuba, Khrushchev and Castro's reactions to the assassination, why neither the Soviet Union or Cuba benefitted from Kennedy's assassination, former Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Nitze's Cold War ideology and the rise of neoconservatism, neoconservatism as an ideology that has now slipped into both the Republican and Democratic Parties, "crackpot realism" in the killing of Gaddafi in Libya and the U.S. intervention in Assad's Syria, Barack Obama and the CIA's classified weapons supply and training program in Syria known as "Timber Sycamore", the Project for American Century's agenda, George HW Bush's comments calling the neocons "the crazies in the basement" of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, the notion that Henry Kissinger and Henry Kissinger were "soft" on Communism during the Cold War, neocons as constantly seeking pretexts for war, the late Russian studies scholar Stephen F. Cohen vs. Richard Pipes on the Soviet Union, Nixon and Kissinger as being to the right of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher on Mikhail Gorbachev, neocons and the Australia nuclear submarines deal as part of a geopolitical strategy against China, "Noble Lies" and the selling of wars, NATO's expansion and the lack of historical context provided by crackpot realism in foreign policy, Woolsey's book as a psyop, PNAC member Robert Kagan and his wife Victoria Nuland's involvement in U.S. foreign policy related to Ukraine, the neocon agenda as bankrupting the U.S. and destroying social programs vis-à-vis war spending, and, much, much more.
