Father Matthew Spencer joins Patrick to discuss Saint Joseph (3:35) why is Saint Joseph the patron of the oblates of Saint Joseph? Tom - I love St. Joseph.  He came to me recently.  I am very grateful to him for nearly saving my life.  I want his help everyday. (16:54) Christine - When I was 5 years old, we had a nativity set that was cardboard.  My father put the old one in the fire and the only thing that didn't burn was St. Joseph.  We had a devotion to him because of what happened to him. (20:08) Break 1 What is the connection between Saint Joseph of the old testament and the new testament? (24:55) Irene - Husband would pray to St. Joseph.   When he was dying, I was praying the litany while he was receiving viaticum and passed at St. Joseph. Philip - A friend was selling his house.  Asked me to pray for sale of home.  He had taken a blessed statue and buried it.  I got on his case about it.  I said, 'Let's dust him off and put him in the house.'  We did and he sold the house.  We need to honor him. (32:28) Glen - I fell in love with St. Joseph.  He got me thinking and family members got me rekindled to St. Joseph.  Had pornography addiction and prayers to him kept me away from it for years now. (37:33) Break 2 11:41 Sheryl - When my son was accepted to Notre Dame, we were excited, but unsure if we could afford it.  He ended up getting a merit scholarship.  Notre Dame is in St. Joseph County and the school is on St. Joseph Street. What can Saint Joseph teach us about masculinity? (43:45)  Kathleen - He's helped me so much.  I've always called on him.  I'm 72, and in my 20's I prayed for children.  Had 9.  I said a novena for my daughter to find a job and on the 10th day, she got the job. What can Saint Joseph teach us about the sanctity of work? How The St. Joe County Public Library Enables Genocide In Gaza

Original Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2833leAfE9g&t=1242s Dr. E. Michael Jones visits the local public access channel studio in downtown South Bend to discuss with Peter Helland his understanding of the very controversial decision to continue to retain the retired Jewish lawyer of Barnes and Thornburg, Alan Feldbaum, to his high position within the St. Joseph County Public Library. Many local citizens and particularly mothers, represented by county council member, Amy Drake, want him replaced. Feldbaum has been insisting that the children section contain books like "Flamer" and "This Book is Gay." The mothers and many others feel this makes it morally unsafe for their children to be in the children's section of the library. Amy Drake thought for sure the three Republican conservative county commissioners would support her. Instead as Dr. Jones says, they stabbed her in the back. While this extremely important 10 am meeting was taking place, only two hours later at 12 o'clock the Republicans were holding a meeting at the Juday Creek golf course to listen to "conservative" radio talk show host Casey Hendrickson and common council member Eli Wax give a talk on "Understanding Israel" in light of the war in Gaza. After the hour talk Jones was given the first question. Jones said the talk was an insult to the intelligence of the audience. Hendrickson immediately started "sparring" with Jones. Finally Hendrickson said: "I know who you are. The ADL says you are an antisemite." This galvanized the crowd against Jones. But fortunately Mike came with some friends that created a buffer for him. Mike never was allowed to say his peace at the meeting but now on public access and youtube he can get his important message out: Both political parties in St. Joseph County and South Bend are controlled way too much by the Jewish citizens and outside Jewish influence he says. And this is happening all over the country. He says we must take back our country and get representatives that actually represent the majority. ——— NOW AVAILABLE! PlaySlots4RealMoney.com, CasinoSlotsMoney.com, Livedealerscasino.org, EasyMobileCasino.com & OnlineBlingo.com bring you the gambling news podcast. In our first story, a promising Kickstarter crypto game goes bust. In 2021, at the height of the crypto boom, a blockchain-based, Pokemon-style video game called Untamed Isles raised over $500,000 on Kickstarter. Fast-forward a year later, and the game is more or less dead. It seems that Phat Loot, the studio behind the game, is so broke that it can't even refund its backers. Posting on the game's Steam page, the developers said that they will pause the development and put the game on indefinite hiatus, as they're unable to financially keep up with the planned schedule. They denied claims that the backers' money was invested in cryptocurrencies and said that all funds went towards the game development. The game was originally scheduled to launch on October 6.  Next up, the campaign surrounding California gambling propositions is breaking all the spending records. So far, committees supporting and opposing Propositions 26 and 27 have raised over $357 million. Since June 30, several groups, looking to get a piece of this potentially very lucrative betting market, have each been spending an average of $16.5 million per week.In two months, California voters will decide whether to back two propositions that will bring legal gambling to the state. Proposition 26 would expand types of betting at tribal casinos and racetracks to in-person sports wagering. Voting Yes on the other measure, Prop 27, would legalize online betting across the state. With stakes this high, the lavish campaign spending will likely continue until the ballots are mailed out in October.  In our next story, Butler National Corporation will now offer sports betting in Kansas. The company has received a green light from the Kansas Lottery as their sports wagering management contract via a subsidiary operating Boot Hill Casino & Resort was approved. The agreement follows a similar deal the casino has made with DraftKings. According to the details of the contract, the patrons will not only be able to place wagers in person at the Dodge City casino, but also bet online through the interactive sports wagering platform. At the moment, the team at the Butler National Corporation is focused on launching DraftKings' mobile and retail sportsbook at Boot Hill casino. Per provisions of the Kansas sports betting law, state casinos can have up to 50 marketing partners.  In our last story this week, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi opened the expanded gaming area at the Four Winds Casino in South Bend. The representatives of the tribe ceremonially cut the ribbon on Friday, opening the door to all visitors. The new 40,000-square foot gaming floor includes 850 slot machines, 11 gaming tables, and a brand-new high-limit area. Plus, it features an additional cage and cashier area. The gaming space is just a part of a major expansion of the casino which is set to be completed in early 2023. When finished, the complex will include the 23-story hotel, the largest in St. Joseph County, a convention area and meeting space, lounge, bar, spa, and a swimming pool on the roof of the hotel.

A young Indiana corrections officer who hoped to become a police officer has been killed in a drive-by shooting, authorities said. St. Joseph County correctional officer Rhema Harris was killed around 6 p.m. Sunday “in yet another senseless act of violence,” St. Joseph County Sheriff William Redman said. Harris, 28, was struck her in the chest, Mishawaka police's detective bureau division chief Dan Gebo told ABC News. The shooter then sped away and has not been identified, Gebo said. The shooting was believed to be a retaliation in a feud, Gebo said, stressing that the corrections officer was not the target and she was just “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/leah-gordone/support

Heidi Beidinger-Burnett is president of the St. Joseph County Board of Health, director of the Master of Science in Global Health Program at the University of Notre Dame and co-director of the ND Lead Innovation Team. In 2017 it was discovered that neighborhoods in South Bend had a higher rate of lead poisoning than in Flint, MI, for families that were affected there was despair and loss of hope. Heidi mobilized a team of experts and community partners and received a Community Impact Grant from the CSC to launch the Lead Innovation Team. Their mission is rooted in prevention, finding lead in homes before children are poisoned, to this end they have developed test kits for families to use to screen for lead in their homes. What started as a $7,000 seed grant from the CSC has led to over $6 million to tackle this issue in St. Joseph County. Visit  https://leadinfo.nd.edu/ for more information.

On this week's Talking Michigan Transportation podcast, Michigan Department of Transportation Director Paul C. Ajegba talks about some of the big projects completed in 2020 as highlighted in this year-end video. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer celebrated a significant milestone in her Rebuilding Michigan plan when she joined Director Ajegba to tour the first project financed with the bonds. That project rebuilt the aging I-496 freeway between I-96 and Lansing Road in Ingham and Eaton counties. Major work will begin on several other projects to be financed by the governor's bonding plan in spring 2021. Gov. Whitmer talked about the plan on the podcast in January following the State Transportation Commission's authorization. Also, in early November, Gov. Whitmer joined the director to celebrate the reopening of the busy interchange of I-96, I-196 and East Beltline Avenue east of Grand Rapids. The Flip, as dubbed by the project team, will ease congestion in and out of the city and make for safer transitions between the freeways. As Robb Westaby at Fox17 observed, the new ramp and bridge eliminates the need for drivers to cross three lanes of traffic to get to the East Beltline Avenue exit.Other notable projects in 2020 included rebuilding the 100th Street bridge over US-131 in Kent County, the I-75 modernization project in Oakland County, rebuilding US-131 in St. Joseph County, and rebuilding M-28 in Alger County. The director also explains how Rebuilding Michigan and more aggressive road building is stoking competition in the construction industry, with preliminary evidence of stabilizing bid prices.Other highlights:MDOT inked a contract in August with Cavnue for a first-of-its-kind connected corridor between Detroit and Ann Arbor. As Fortune Magazine wrote, “The so-called road of the future, which was announced on Thursday by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, amounts to an ambitious bid to reconceive both transportation and public transit.” On the Gordie Howe International Bridge project, MDOT real estate specialists marked a major milestone by acquiring the final parcels of land needed for construction of the bridge, ramps and plazas. This year-in-review video covers the highlights.
