WolfTalk: Podcast About Audio Programming (People, Careers, Learning)
In this podcast episode, I was delighted to be able one of the most prominent people of the audio developer landscape: Fabian Renn-Giles.Fabian is a former lead developer of JUCE, currently working as an independent contractor. He has worked with many great companies (e.g., iZotope, Behringer) and has an incredible portfolio. He is regarded as an expert of real-time, low-latency C++ audio programming. You may know him from his talks at the Audio Developer Conference or at CppCon.He's also an incredibly kind and modest person; anyone that I've talked to about Fabian only had praise for his skills and his very down-to-earth attitude. In the light of all the above, this interview is a real treat for everyone who'd like to become a real-time audio C++ expert!Note: If you like the podcast so far, please, go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review there. WolfTalk: Podcast About Audio Programming (People, Careers, Learning)
In this podcast episode, I was lucky to interview Chase Kanipe: a cybersecurity professional, a musician, and an audio programmer (formerly C++ with JUCE, currently Rust). Chase is most widely known through his incredible Audio Developer Conference talks:Tips From a Hacker on License Checking at ADC22Writing Elegant DSP Code with Rust at ADC23 (to be released soon)Both were really insightful and of incredibly high quality. One could not overlook Chase's personal culture and the depth with which he explained the concepts. Not to mention that both of his talks made it into my “Top 10 ADC Talks” videos for both ADC22 and ADC23!Chase is currently pursuing a master's degree in Machine Learning at the University of Maryland. At the same time, he's working on his breakthrough audio project in a self-grounded company Procedural Audio. In the podcast, we discuss his path of being a classically trained musician, a passionate cybersecurity specialist, and then transitioning into audio programming with Rust and into AI. He's an incredibly inspiring individual and I have learned a lot from interviewing him!Note: If you like the podcast so far, please, go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review there. WolfTalk: Podcast About Audio Programming (People, Careers, Learning)
In this podcast episode, I was lucky to interview Ruurd Adema: a freelance audio developer from the Netherlands working primarily in JUCE and C++ (but not only).I met Ruurd at the Audio Developer Conference 2023 and I believe his story is incredibly inspiring; he went from being a live sound engineer doing front-of-house (FOH) mixing at the biggest events in the Netherlands to contracting as a freelance audio developer. In the interview, he shares his story and a ton of useful resources and tips to help others follow his footsteps. If you're looking for inspiration and a clear learning path to become an audio developer this is an episode for you!Note: If you like the podcast so far, please, go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review there. WolfTalk: Podcast About Audio Programming (People, Careers, Learning)
In this podcast episode, I was lucky to interview Oliver Larkin: an audio programming legend from the UK.Starting with a passion for music, going through Max, SynthEdit, PureData, then C++ to JavaScript and others, there is no audio technology that's not known to him. He has worked on projects with Arturia and Focusrite (among many more) and nowadays works for Ableton. He has conducted research in spatial audio, and has created successful plugins, like the Casio CZ-101 synthesizer emulation. He is most widely known as the co-author of Web Audio Modules and iPlug2: an C++ framework for creating audio plugins and web-hosted audio apps. It allows you to have a single codebase that builds various plugin formats out of the box, e.g., VST, AAX, and AU. Sounds familiar? That's because it is an alternative to the JUCE framework. With 20 years of experience in audio programming, he can be a role model for aspiring audio programmers. All this and more, including Oli's learning path is discussed in this podcast episode!Note: If you like the podcast so far, please, go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review there. Joshua Hodge is someone that is dedicated – dedicated to helping people learn to do what they love. Oh, and to get a job, too! His project – The Audio Programmer (theaudioprogrammer.com) is a central location for learning about how to become an audio programmer, and it combines his passion for music with his love of programming, and teaching. In our discussion, we talk about his background, how he got involved in programming, and why he decided to take on audio programming as a vector for his teaching. We also learn about his musical history as well as his own personal programming practice. All-in-all, it’s a good view of someone that is “all-in” on audio programming. You can check out Joshua’s work at The Audio Programmer (theaudioprogrammer.com), and take a peek as his programming tutorials on his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpKb02FsH4WH4X_2xhIoJ1A). In addition to the free YouTube videos, he also has a series teaching JUCE plugin development that is pretty powerful. If you are into programming audio projects at all, The Audio Programmer is a resource you should be dialed into! Transcription available at http://www.darwingrosse.com/AMT/transcript-0349.html

Bruce Dawson came on my radar recently for a really interesting project: he is one of the two instructors for the Kadenze course on creating audio applications using the JUCE framework. He got that opportunity by being a C++ developer with one of my favorite sound and plug-in developers, Output. So I reached out, he was into it, and here's the podcast! This is also another opportunity to quiz someone on their CalArts experience. There are so many people throughout the industry that have gone through CalArts programs to do great things, so I consider it a great chance to talk someone from there. And Bruce's path into CalArts is pretty remarkable as well. A great story, and some good insights into code-work-play-music balance, as well as giving us a chance to think about the details necessary to do the kind of work Output is known for. Enjoy, check out some of Bruce's Soundcloud work (https://soundcloud.com/synchronometry) and put some eyes on that Kadenze course (https://www.kadenze.com/courses/advanced-audio-plugin-development/info) Cheers!
This week we chat with Timur Doumler and Brian Heim about the challenges peculiar to audio development, and find that most are shared with other domains - especially those that consider themselves low-latency and/ or real-time. Timur has, in the past, worked on audio software at ROLI and Native Instruments, and has been a maintainer of the JUCE audio library - but now works on CLion at JetBrains. Brian is a maintainer of SuperCollider, a platform for audio synthesis and algorithmic composition.

Tyler and Matt open the Podcast by discussing the non homo stretching techniques Matt performed on Tyler earlier that day. These stretches included leg stretches, back stretches, and various stretching exercises designed to lower thy back pain of Tyler. They then dive into a discussion on juicing, the benefits of juicing, juicing for weight loss, juicing recipes, and their personal experiences while drinking pressed juice. Matt discusses making it almost 13 days while Tyler juiced for 5. They discuss the mental and physical difficulties while juice fasting and whether it was worth doing or not. They discuss the documentary "Fat Sick And Nearly Dead" and it's influence on the popularity of cold pressed juice. The documentary explains how a man was able to lose weight with pressed juice, improve health while drinking only fresh juice every day, as well as better manage the symptoms of his autoimmune disease as a result of drinking fresh pressed juices. He discusses the green juice recipes he used to achieve this and how the enzymes in the juice worked to improve his health. Tyler explains why he doesn't need to measure BMI to know he is indeed fat. He explains what tells him that hes fat. Tyler explains his story regarding a discussion with a nurse in which he says "Are you telling me juicing is unhealthy because that is what you were told? Or is it because of your hours and hours of research?" What she said will surprise you. Matt discusses the enzymes in cold pressed juice. (Fresh juice). He discusses the importance of incorporating enzymes into our every day diets to boost our health and immune system. He touches on how to improve immune system, how enzymes function, and explains that enzymes work by boosting the body's ability to health itself. Matt clarifies that these enzymes are only found in fresh juice which has a very short expiration date. Much of the cold pressed juice found in grocery stores are processed and will not have these enzymes. Tyler and Matt encourage their audience to always do research themselves no matter what the subject, situation, or source the information comes from. Don't just listen to a couple of Jabroni F*cks and take what they say as 100% truth! Research, research, research. Tyler talks about his juicing experience. Why he started, how long he juiced for and how juicing benefited him. How important water and hydrating is while juicing. Juicing is not to be used to loose weight for an extended period of time. Use juicing as a jump start to get your mind prepared for your weight loss journey. When your body receives the enzymes it needs, your body will heal itself! When your body isn't focused on digesting food - it puts those recourses to use to heal you. Natural cures + foods will cure vs Pharmaceutical drugs will manage Actually research and Fact check before making your own opinion on the different topics Tyler and Matt tell stories of their positives and negative experiences with Doctors. Enzymes are our body’s workers. They are responsible for constructing, synthesizing, carrying, dispensing, delivering, and eliminating the many ingredients and chemicals our body uses in its daily business of living. Our body makes enzymes. When we were young, we had an abundant supply of enzymes. Our energy level seemed never ending. That’s because we had “enzymes to burn” which kept us running at tip top efficiency – until our enzyme bank account dried up. As time goes by, we slowly begin to lose this efficiency. For years we may not even notice the changes. But then we become less able to eat the spicy foods we love or less able to recover as quickly from the aches and pains of daily jobs, weekend sports or just day to day chores. This reduced vitality and stamina can signal a weakened and compromised body. This is a crucial point – the more ‘alive’ our meals are, the more enzymes are present. Plus, the more plant food enzymes we consume, the more energy, vitality, youthfulness and superior health we will achieve. In other words, eating a diet rich in plant food, nuts, seeds and fresh herbs – along with juicing and blending – equals optimal health. 112 degrees Fahrenheit (a temperature that some experts say is the point where healthy food enzymes die). When we cook foods more than 115 degrees, all enzymes die. This is why 99% of us, living in a ‘cooked food society’, suffer from weakened immune systems, fatigue and pre-mature aging. Cold Press Juices - This is still considered “100% juice.” At the present time, this term is either used to refer to unpasteurized cold-pressed juice that has a shelf life of two to three days or HPP-treated cold-pressed juice with a shelf life of up to 45 days. Check the label to see if and how the juicehas been pasteurized.
