Hundreds of years ago, it is believed a group of African migrants made their way South from the Remnants of the collapsing Mali Empire -- once ruled by the wealthiest human in history: Musa Mansa. These travelers eventually made their way to the South coast of what is now Ghana in North West Africa. They settled there but not on the land. Instead, they established a community in the middle of a river. Despite the ravages of war, the slave trade, and colonialism, these enterprising individuals didn't just survive they thrived. But today, their remarkable community faces new challenges that include tourism and environmental change. Ghanaian native Prof. Nana Kesse of Clark University has visited the community and extensively researched their history and culture. In his study titled "Living Waters," he compares both the oral traditions of the people and the documented evidence from other historical sources as he tries to unravel the mysteries of the Nzulezo community. In this episode, Nana shares his insights into the origins of this community. He explains how and why they came to live in such a unique location. The challenges they have faced, adaptations they've made, and how they remain an enduring example of the resilience of humanity. Almost exactly 18 years ago, a young professional woman seemingly disappeared without a trace. Few clues were ever found and the ones that were are more frustrating than helpful. From grainy security footage where any identifying characteristics of the person of interest were obscured to many potential witnesses never being interviewed, the Kesse family has found themselves in frustrating situation after frustrating situation. In the wake of Jennifer's disappearance, her family not only led the charge to find her, but also helped to create the Jennifer Kesse and Tiffany Sessions Missing Persons Act which requires law enforcement agents to adopt written policies and procedures for investigating missing persons. Anyone with information into Kesse's disappearance can call the Kesse Family Tip Line at 941-201-4009, or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). In this week's episode, Zoey covers the unsolved disappearance of Jennifer Kesse, a 24 year old woman who went missing from her condo in January 2006. Jennifer, who was known for always being in touch with loved ones, was reported missing on January 24th, 2005 around 3 pm after no one had heard from her since the previous night. However, because she was an adult, police assumed that she just got in a fight with her boyfriend and left.Eventually the Kesse family was able to convince the police to search for her, but they did too little, too late. Despite numerous leads coming in constantly, all of the paths of investigation lead to a dead end. But that hasn't stopped Drew and Joyce Kesse, her parents. They are working to this day to try to find their daughter and even announced that they had a promising lead in January 2023.You can find more information and photos of Jennifer at www.jenniferkesse.com including the tip line if you have any information. Keeping the case alive is an expensive process, so her parents are accepting donations at www.gofundme.com/help-us-find-jennifer-kesse. She is 5'8”, 125 lbs with Blonde hair and green eyes. She has a shamrock tattoo on her lower back, a birth mark on her left middle finger on the second joint down, a strawberry birthmark on her rib, and surgical scars on the inside of her left elbow. She was 24 when she went missing but would be 41 today.Sources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2023/03/28/ep-104-the-ongoing-search-for-jennifer-kesse/Visit us on Social Media! Stay Spooky!

Jennifer Kesse was a successful young businesswoman making a life for herself in Orlando, Florida. After what appeared to be a typical morning of getting ready for her job on January 24th, 2006, Jennifer would vanish before getting to work. It would be a few days before her vehicle would be found, but it left clues for her family or investigators. Even after police could obtain CCTV of the individual parking Jennifer's car and walking away in broad daylight, they were no closer to finding Jennifer. While numerous persons of interest have emerged over the years, no arrests have been made. The Kesse family has continuously pursued answers for what happened to their daughter, sister, and loved one. When Jennifer Kesse didn't show up for work, everyone who knew the 24-year-old recognized there was trouble. Kesse was a responsible, habitual person. She talked to her family regularly. She called her boyfriend every morning on the way to work, and she never missed work, most certainly not without letting her boss know if she needed to be off. Not only was Jennifer missing, but so was her car. It's found two days later, parked in an apartment complex over a mile from her home and wiped clean. Jennifer Kesse has not been seen since 2006. Now her uncle, Bill Gilmour, describes the restless nights since then and his emotional journey to find peace, in a new book "Aftermath of Jennifer Kesse's Abduction: An Uncle's Inspiring Journey and Other Stories of Hope." PARTNERS IN TRUE CRIME: WHO KILLED MOLLY MILLER AND COLT HAYNES?
Molly and Colt's families are not alone in their struggle to find answers about their missing loved ones. In 2006, Jennifer Kesse disappeared from her apartment in Orlando, Florida and for the past 16 years her parents have been struggling to find answers. We produced a documentary about Jennifer's story for the Oxygen network around the same time we did Molly and Colt's story and we were shocked at the similarities faced by both families. Today, we are thrilled to have Jennifer Kesse's father Drew Kesse as our guest. Through Mr. Kesse's heartbreaking experience, he offers support to the families of Molly and Colt. Drew also illustrates different strategies for maneuvering the politics and media when a loved one goes missing. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

#110- In January 2006, 24-year-old Jennifer Kesse disappeared from her condo in Orlando, Florida. Two days after she disappeared, her car was found abandoned in a nearby apartment complex. Security footage installed at the complex captured an individual seen driving and parking Jennifer's car on the day she went missing. Unfortunately, the camera didn't record a continuous video and only captured an image every three seconds. Every three seconds this individual was somehow able to obscure their face behind a face. The details surrounding Jennifer's disappearance remain a mystery and the person captured dumping her car remains unidentified. On Monday the 23rd of January 2006, Jennifer Kesse left her boyfriend’s house in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The two had been vacationing in the Virgin Islands and Jennifer stayed a night there, as she often did before driving to work. After working a full day, Jennifer left work at 6 pm before driving back to her condo in Mosaic Millenia. She spoke to her parents and brother Logan, telling them about the vacation and catching up. Around 10 pm, Jennifer calls her boyfriend Rob but as she was tired from the vacation was in bed and the conversation was brief but before getting off the phone they told each other they missed each other and were excited for the next break away they would take. Rob was running late for work the next morning and seeing no call or text from Jennifer which she done in the morning, decided to call her instead but got only her voicemail. Upon finishing a work meeting later on, Rob would call her again but this went straight to voice mail, and upon learning Jennifer did not arrive for work that morning either, both Rob and Jennifer’s parents were notified of this and they began to drive the two hours from their home in Tampa , Florida to Jennifer’s condo. Upon arriving and gaining access by the management whom the Kesse’s had called beforehand, there appeared to be nothing amiss in the condo. The bed looked slept in, items of clothing spread out as the outfit of the day, a towel wet from a shower and make up out, all the indicators that Jennifer had at least got ready for work that morning. The only things that were missing were her purse, keys, phone and iPod and of course Jennifer herself. Police were soon notified of her disappearance and there the OC Sheriffs and OPD deputies arrived, before deeming it a possible mental breakdown or tiff with the boyfriend, they left and that is how the long and arduous journey for the Kesse’s 14 year search for their missing daughter. A search which was plagued by a lack of physical evidence, an uncertain time of disappearance and even CCTV footage of the “luckiest person of interest in the world”. The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast Ep 92: Accessible Yoga Language with Kesse, Chantel and Katie As yoga teachers, we'd all like to reach as many people as possible with our practice and share yoga with them. However, what we may not realize is that we may be inadvertently be excluding or even offending people - through something as simple (but powerful) as our language. I met Chantel Ehler, Katie Juelson and Kesse Hodge at the Accessible Yoga Conference in Toronto last summer. I immediately knew they would be the best people to have a discussion about accessible yoga language, and delve into some uncomfortable areas surrounding the topic. Language can be a very powerful tool for empowering people, but it can also instill fear, be hurtful, or downright offensive. My three guests share insights about the kind of language it takes to create safe spaces for people to be vulnerable. We touch on topics like using gendered pronouns, inclusive rather than exclusive language, and how to ask people about what they're going through and build relationships with them. We're all going to make mistakes along the way. Even I had some fear around doing this episode, and sharing some of my vulnerable experiences. The key is to remember that every interaction is an opportunity to learn and grow. If you've ever struggled with presenting yoga with accessible language, or worried about offending someone because of something you've said, this episode is going to be such an eye-opener. About the Guests: Chantel, founder of Amara Vidya Yoga in Ontario, Canada, began teaching yoga in 2002, and was the location manager for the Accessible Yoga Conference in June 2018. Katie has been a yoga teacher for 5 years, and currently works with Canada's National Para-soccer team and with other community programs. She focuses on sharing yoga with people who have cognitive and developmental disabilities. Chantel and Katie also recently co-founded Yoga Service and Accessibility Canada. Kesse is a self-professed fat, atheist, agender, spoonie (person living with chronic illness/ pain) who specializes in teaching adaptive, mix-level yoga to all humans. They are the founder of Change Yoga, the Director of Inclusion and Communications at Rooted Yoga, and have over 15 years of experience in the field. Key Takeaways: [5:00] Shannon introduces her three guests for this episode - Chantel Ehler, Katie Juelson, and Kesse Hodge. [8:08] Language is very important in empowering students. What kind of language is not as empowering, unhelpful or downright offensive? Chantel shares her thoughts. [11:19] Katie addresses language that is empowering vs not so helpful in the area of disability. [12:46] Shannon shares a personal anecdote from her experience with a paraplegic in her class. [13:33] Katie gives some tips on the cues that can be used in a yoga class. [15:25] Kesse gives their take on how every opportunity interacting with students is an opportunity to learn and to grow. [19:29] Emotional safety is a crucial part of creating a safe space for your yoga students. Kesse elaborates more on that idea, sharing some personal anecdotes. [25:20] Language can exclude people who may benefit from whatever is being offered, be it yoga, or assistance, or anything else- being conscious, deliberate and inclusive can help with this. [29:26] What are the after-effects of the damage that is inadvertently done through language, and how can they be addressed? [34:25] Katie raises the importance of community relationships in the healing journey. [00:36:30] Shannon and Katie discuss the issues with saying that people with disabilities are inspiring. [39:45] What's the deal with using gendered pronouns to refer to people? Kesse and Chantel share their thoughts on how best to approach this. [49:25] Asking is the best way to educate yourself. Is it ever offensive to ask about disability, or what someone is going through, or even what pronoun they prefer? [55:14] Listeners, we'd love to hear your experiences and how you've learned to change something you say. [56:40] What were some of Shannon's key takeaways from this discussion? We'd love for you to hear yours too - share them in the show notes! [59:40] Shannon has a special bonus for you! In this special episode Kate asks a medium to discuss the unsolved mysteries of the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse, the death of actress Brittany Murphy, whether Amanda Knox was involved in the death of her Italian roommate Meredith Kercher, and what really happened on July 18, 1969 on Chappaquiddick Island. Jennifer Joyce Kesse lived in Orlando, Florida and has been missing since January 24, 2006. Her disappearance puzzled investigators and an aggressive search for her was conducted in the area surrounding her home. Shortly after her disappearance, her car was discovered a little over a mile from her home at a nearby apartment complex. No evidence was ever made known with regards to her, such as finger prints, DNA or cellphone location information from nearby towers. Captured footage from a nearby security camera showed an unidentified person parking Kesse's car before walking away. The case received widespread state and national press attention at the time of her disappearance.Brittany Murphy was an American actress and singer. A native of Atlanta, Murphy moved to Los Angeles as a teenager and pursued a career in acting. Her breakthrough role was as Tai Frasier in Clueless (1995), followed by supporting roles in independent films such as Freeway (1996) and Bongwater (1998). In December 2009, Murphy died of pneumonia at the age of 32. Meredith Kercher was a British student on exchange from the University of Leeds who was murdered at the age of 21 in Perugia, Italy, on 1 November 2007. Kercher was found dead on the floor of her bedroom. By the time the bloodstained fingerprints at the scene were identified as belonging to Rudy Guede, police had charged Kercher's American flatmate, Amanda Knox, and Knox's Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. The subsequent prosecutions of Knox and Sollecito received international publicity. The Chappaquiddick incident was a single-vehicle car accident that occurred on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 18, 1969. The late night accident was caused by Senator Ted Kennedy’s negligence, and resulted in the death of his 28-year-old passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, who was trapped inside the vehicle.Reality Life with Kate Casey http://www.loveandknuckles.comTwitter: @katecaseyInstagram: @katecaseycaFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245/Facebook.com/loveandknucklesAmazon List: http://www.amazon.com/shop/katecaseycaSUAVEhttp://www.suave.comBOMBAShttp://www.bombas.com/realityPROMO CODE: REALITYKOPARIwww.kopari.com/reality See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Jennifer Kesse disappeared a decade ago and her family is still searching for answers about what happened to the 24-year-old Florida woman. Jennifer's family knew something was wrong when she did not show up for her job on the morning of Tuesday, January 24, 2006. Nancy Grace digs into the mystery with Jennifer's father Drew Kesse, her mom Joyce Kesse, Shaun Gurd -- whose podcast "Unconcluded" focuses on the case, and forensics expert Joseph Scott Morgan. The Kesse family tells Grace why they are frustrated with the police investigation and investigator's refusal to cooperate with a private investigator they've hired to help.
