We are so excited to have the beautiful Konnie on the poddy! Konnie is Jayde's long-time friend (what a legend!), and we've managed to pull her out of her newborn bubble to chat with us all about her experience with an elective caesarean. She dives into why she chose this birth option but also shares how hard it was to find information about it—so much out there focuses on vaginal births or emergency C-sections! The Mid•Point with Gabby Logan

Former Blue Peter presenter turned children's author Konnie Huq chats to Gabby this week about a wide range of topics, including why she feels modern life is getting more and more absurd by the minute, how she wrestled with stereotyping in her younger years and ended up presenting TV before she had finished school, and why she thinks middle aged women rock! Konnie also explains why she is happy being an analogue person in a digital world, how her early experiences filming for Comic Relief informed her outlook on life, and why we might all benefit from being a little more patient and having slightly lower expectations. Despite declaring that she is not a podcast person, Konnie's honesty cuts through the noise and will have many of you nodding in agreement! Hosted on Acast. Konnie Huq is a presenter and writer and a mum of two boys aged 8 and 10. She was also the longest serving female presenter of Blue Peter from 1997 to 2008. The Blue Peter link makes us feel like we are almost related. Like my mum, Konnie loved her time on Blue Peter and time flew because she found every day on the programme was so fun and different. We talked about how she and Charlie Brooker got married within 9 months of getting together, how different her two boys are from one another, and how she finds joy in simple things. Konnie and I talked about her children's books about a character called Cookie Haque (hmm, now who could that be based on?) which she writes in chunks on her phone. We also mused on the high expectations people have of parenting these days, when both of us remember long periods waiting in the car while our parents shopped or did errands. And how unthinkable that would be now, when it's all bathtime and bedtime and fitting around the children instead!Towards the end of our chat we got quite deep and philosophical about the influences in childhood which go on to make the adult. Konnie recognises the little things that her mum taught her as a child that are now very much part of her make up - not wasting food being an important principle which her parents brought with them when they moved to the UK from Bangladesh in the 60s.So, I hope your ears are feeling agile today because Konnie is lively and lovely and has a brain which will take you on some wonderful tangents! Luckily, science-mad Cookie realises that her coding lessons at school might help her crack the language code and help her bond with Nani. Other mysteries are harder to solve, though – like, why is Jake's mum acting so weird? Who is the mystery gamer who keeps levelling-up in Cookie's computer game? And who is the Woodburn Hacker, who keeps posting teachers' secrets on the school website? Why does it look like it might be Cookie herself? So – pinch me. If you'd told eight-year-old me that I'd one day get to interview 'Blue Peter' presenter Konnie Huq when I grew up, it would have been way too exciting to process. As it happens, 28-year-old me managed to keep it together (just about) in order to interview the lovely presenter-turned-children's author about alone time, finding genuine happiness away from the spotlight and why she's never, ever felt lonely. Thanks to a social-distancing friendly video chat, I also got to meet Huxley, the youngest of Konnie's adorable sons (she has two under the age of nine with her husband, 'Black Mirror' creator Charlie Brooker). Huxley makes his cameo right at the end of the episode, turning out to be the unexpected star of the show and also proving Konnie's assertion that she gets ZERO alone time as the mother of two young children.Konnie's latest book, Cookie and the Most Annoying Girl in the World, is available now from Amazon and from all good booksellers. Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 278 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A proper brilliant one for you this week, as Pip is joined by the truly ace presenter, writer and podcaster KONNIE HUQ!The weather conditions at the time of podcasting (monsoon season) seem to make for a perfect sit down and chat session with Pip and Konnie, as the two hunker down and address a whole gang of pertinent issues and situations - which starts quite literally moments into the conversation. This all sets the tone for some extremely entertaining and very mind opening topic tackling, which includes such menu items as the smoking ban and how we all adapted, the issue of stuff and things and the accumulation of possessions, moving house to a shoebox (with kid in tow), social media and the multitude of attitudes towards it (including where they stand on it all), the idea of manners on social media and how people conduct themselves, minorities, sexual preference, change and evolution in society, being the first Bangladeshi presenter of Blue Peter, slow progression, the bullshit filter of being a parent, the importance of nomalising inclusivity, pasta tangents and of COURSE, her own podcast ‘Switch Off’ and forthcoming book ‘Cookie And The Most Annoying Boy In The World’! SO MUCH GOODNESS.
