In our society today, we don't quite learn how to breastfeed by observation as we once did in the past. You might think that it is completely natural for you and your baby, which it is to some extent. However, without coming into contact with the techniques involved with breastfeeding, it can truly be a foreign concept to most of modern society. And the unknown can often be scary! This is why it's always beneficial to take a breastfeeding class prior to giving birth.LaShanda Dandrich, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and co-founder of the Lactation Learning Collective, joins us today to talk about all things breastfeeding. LShanda talks about the significant mental and physical aspects involved in breastfeeding “success” and what “success” even means in this situation. She dives into topics like latching, clogged ducts, mastitis, yeast infection and more. She discusses how lactation consultants can help people with under or over supply of milk due to hypothyroidism, diabetes, breast surgery, etc. LaShanda advocates for creating your “village” of people to help you stay nourished and take care of you and your home so that you can focus on breastfeeding. Especially in the early days, breastfeeding can be a round-the-clock activity as newborns have tiny tummies and need to feed often. After the birth of her daughter in 2009, LaShanda's passion for breastfeeding and supporting mothers and families in the postpartum period blossomed. She became a trained postpartum doula while pursuing her IBCLC credential. LaShanda currently provides lactation support prenatally and postpartum via virtual visits and in person support groups. She has supported families of all diverse, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds throughout NYC. She also works closely with other perinatal professionals, teaching lactation support for doulas to mentoring those on the Pathway to IBCLC. She currently resides in Harlem with her daughter, and they continue to travel the world together!Connect with her:IG: @LactationLearningCollective

“It's not about whether our kids can learn, it's about how we engage them as critical thinkers and how teachers engage those students,” explains Thom Jackson, Esq, President and CEO at EdisonLearning. In today's episode host D-Rich sits down with guests Thom Jackson and LaShanda Jackson, Extension Instructor at Michigan State University to talk about the future of public education and how to reduce the achievement gap between white students and students of color. There are a lot of factors to consider when looking into why students of color often fall behind their white peers in education. In order to truly understand why kids are struggling and turn the tides for them, one must look at their entire learning and home environments. Is the school a safe learning environment where students feel free to engage with their teachers and classmates? Are they getting the proper nutrition? Oftentimes children of color are growing up in situations that are not conducive to learning. For example, they may have repeated exposure to chemicals like lead in their food and water supplies, they may not have access to early education, or they may be held back a grade at a critical time in their development. When kids are more engaged and able to utilize their critical thinking skills, their academic performance improves exponentially. Unengaged kids who constantly have their heads down or don't care enough to pay attention are more likely to fail, be held back, and ultimately to drop out of school. All kids learn differently and it is important to determine how each student learns best in order to get them fully engaged in their own education. Join Thom Jackson Esq., LaShanda Jackson, and host D-Rich on this week's episode of Southern Soul Live Stream - Podshow to learn more about the difficulties facing public education and what needs to be done to ensure better outcomes for children of color. Quotes • “If you're not putting the proper food inside your body, how can you even feed your brain the right way? Your first brain is your stomach.” (21:32-21:40 | LaShanda) • “Our kids are dealing with lead paint, not only in water, but in the piping that's used. They're dealing with the paint on the walls, in the air that they're breathing, and all of these atmospheres, and we ask ourselves these questions about why are our kids in certain neighborhoods underperforming in education, and we've yet not linked it to the very environmental conditions in which we have these kids growing up.” (32:36-33:00 | Thom) • “It's not about whether our kids can learn. It's about how we engage them as critical thinkers, and how teachers engage those students.” (48:33-48:42 | Thom) • “When we say equity, we're saying, let's make sure that every child has access to the tools that will help them become the best student that they could possibly be.” (49:01-49:11 | Thom) Links Thom Jackson, Esq President & CEO at EdisonLearning: https://www.edisonlearning.com/equity-everywhere LaShanda Jackson, Michigan State University Extension Instructor: https://healthyjustfeelsright.com/ About with Southern Soul Live Stream - Podshow Witty, thought-provoking, and uplifting, Southern Soul Livestream - Podshow is the program that you'll invite friends over to watch every week, where you'll learn about fascinating speakers and get to share in their exciting experiences. We had an interesting discussion with LaShanda Greene from Higher Purpose Healing. She helps clients world wide via Skype and phone consultations. We talked extensively about iridology and how she uses it to pinpoint what's going on in a person's body. Iridology can't diagnose illness or disease in the body, but it can show definite weaknesses in different organs in the system. It's great for giving you a road map about where you are with your health. There are really expensive cameras that will take pictures of the eye at very close levels. Different parts of the eye show different areas of the body that need help. Even the whites of the eye can be a whole science in an of itself. Inside the eye you have the retna, cornea, pupil, lens and iris. If you have different spots, lesions or discolorations of this part of the eye you can be genetically weak in certain areas. You can really learn alot about your own health by having somebody like LaShanda Green look at your eyes. Depending on the image quality, if you send her a picture of your eyes in good light, she can work with you over the phone and give you lots of helpful tips and ideas about how to improve your health based on what she can see in your photos. We hope you enjoyed our interview with LaShanda Greene as much as we did and if you did would you consider clicking "like" and "share" on this page to let your friends and family know about the work he is doing? On today's show, we are talking about an issue that's been in the spotlight quite a bit lately. You might have heard about the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2021, a collection of 12 bills introduced by several members of Congress and the Black Maternal Health Caucus to comprehensively address every dimension of the black maternal health crisis in America. Here's a scary fact. We live in the richest country on the globe, yet the U.S. has the highest rate of maternal deaths in the world. Black moms are three to four times more likely to die in childbirth than their white counterparts. And for black women, access to resources, education, and maternal healthcare isn't even close to where it should be. Now, of course, this is a breastfeeding podcast, which occupies just one tiny aspect of maternal healthcare. But we wanted to make sure we addressed the issues from our perspective, because even from our little corner of the world, we know that black women are not represented or supported the way that they should be. So let's find out why.Our guest today is Harlem-based IBCLC LaShanda Dandrich who knows a thing or two about supporting black families on their breastfeeding journeys. In addition to her work with Nest Collaborative, LaShanda also owns the Uptown Village Cooperative, a maternal health group that provides education and support around gentle birthing practices in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, the Chocolate Milk Cafe, a lactation support group for African American families, and Lactation Learning Collective, a collective of lactation professionals mentoring aspiring IBCLC's.

Today, we have a panel of courageous people who are going to share their amazing transformations with us and how the power of forgiveness freed them from self-bondage. First, I want to dedicate this show to a woman who selflessly shared her story with me and it convicted me so to the point where it changed the trajectory of my life. Her name is Sis Josephine Prescott. In short, her abuser was her husband and an event with gunshots left her a quadriplegic for over 30 years of her life. In short, she lived her life for God and with no excuses. She founded a foundation for domestic abuse, she finished a college degree, she was a home owner, she was an avid speaker for domestic abuse...all while being paralyzed from neck down. She forgave her ex-husband, she shared that story with me, and that story convicted me and changed my life. Because she paid it forward, I live to do the same. We have Valerie Champion, a mother, grandmother, author, christian coach, prayer warrior, producer of the Mama Goose Podcast, and travel agency owner. Valerie's story a few weeks ago with her experience with child molestation blessed the airwaves and sparked the need for this discussion on forgiveness. We also have LaShanda Williams, wife mother, life/mentor coach, author, evangelist, and owner of the Two Become One marriage ministry. Lashanda was actually just interviewed earlier today with her story of molestation, sexual, physical, and verbal abuse and shared how forgiveness healed, delivered, and made her whole. We also have Tyra Edwards-Rowell, wife, mother, counselor, teacher, author, producer of Hot but Bothered podcast w/ her husband, founder of Issues of Life, Inc, founder of Issues of Life Coach Certification program, and the proud owner of Innovatively Assisting You - a virtual assistance company. Tyra is here to discuss infidelity in a previous marriage and her journey with forgiveness in this area. We have Bishop Gerald Haynes of New Life Ministries of Aiken in Aiken, SC. He's a husband, dad, grandfather, and an honest servant of God. A man who selflessly gives of himself to see people saved. Aside from God, He and his wife are part of the reason I am here today. We are going to start the conversation off with each person briefly telling their what, their how, and their why. What transpired in their life, how they overcame and forgave, and why they forgave. This show is all about storytelling from the perspective of a therapist who helps people process developmental and relational trauma. You'll hear from LaShanda Sugg, who calls herself a “Sherpa” or a guide who empowers people down the path of healing through active listening. She gives tips on how to create space for people's stories to be heard by engaging the five senses, using a mindfulness practice, and how she cues in on body language as a way of being curious. But ultimately, LaShanda believes that the story that takes the most courage to pause and explore - is our own. She talks about the cyclical nature of intergenerational trauma, and why we should place people's stories in their life experiences, like living in poverty, homelessness, and community violence or the-isms like racism and heterosexism. You should listen if you are interested in learning how to hold space or foster more curiosity for others to share their story with you. There's so much in this podcast for anyone curious about how storytelling can spark change in our lives and our communities. #ComplicatingAdverseToxicStressors #CATS #Storytelling #ResilienceStories #DevelopmentalTrauma #RelationalTrauma

My guest on this weeks HER Conversations is Lashanda Henry founder of Sistasense, a company that provides predominantly Women Of Colour entrepreneurs with technology, online business training and mentorship. I consider Lashanda to be one of the forerunners of making money online. She began her ’accidental’ journey into entrepreneurship in the early 2000s, long before the social media platforms we take for granted existed and when building a website was only possible with code. With more people identifying as entrepreneurs and recognising the power of the internet to drive their business, expertise like Lashanda’s is invaluable. During this episode she shares why it's important to remember why your message is just as valid even if you are many other people providing similar services to you, her favorite online platform and where to begin when you are just starting out. LaShanda Henry has been developing websites for over 10 years. In her own words, “My life's mission is to motivate, inform, inspire, and connect. With my mother in mind, I do what I do for parents looking to better their children's lives and for women striving to live their dreams. I love to share information and build communities online. It's what I do and who I am.” LaShanda is Rosetta's guest on this episode of Happy Black Woman, so grab a drink and a notepad and come meet this amazing woman! On a mission to use technology as a tool of positive change! LaShanda Henry is on a mission to use technology within the black community online and at home. She's a work at home mom with a passion for building websites and helping other women like me make sense of making money online. She's done it herself and knows how to help others do it too. One look at her website, www.SistaSense.com shows you that she's got a TON to offer. Listen in to this casual conversation between LaShanda and Rosetta as they discuss LaSanda's story, technology, productivity, and why every black woman can step beyond where she's at to open up new doors of opportunity, if she'll just do it. It's all in this episode. So are you ready to start making money online? LaShanda specializes in teaching women just like you how to do exactly that! She believes that by making the most of your skills and developing multiple ways to make money online, any woman can grow into a successful work at home career of her own, be her own boss, and set the terms of her life the way that SHE wants them to be. Is that the kind of help you're looking for? It's a tough journey, but you've got a sister like LaShanda to help you navigate your course. Set aside some time to listen to her journey on this episode and be ready for some inspiration to reach out and touch you! It only takes one step to get you rolling toward an entirely new life. LaShanda's story is not all that uncommon. LIke many online entrepreneurs, her present business didn't start out as a “business” at all. At first, it was a hobby, fueled by her interest in technology and a desire to see what she could do with it. From there it turned into a side hustle (a part time job on the side) until now, she works at home running her own business. And a big part of her heart is to help black women see that there really ARE people like them out there who are becoming successful building their own businesses and brands. LaShanda is an example to inspire you to take that first step. What are you waiting for? Come listen to LaShanda's story and let it spark a dream inside of you. The success of your business depends on the company you keep. That is one of LaShanda Henry's favorite statements. It's a lesson she's learned over the years as she turned an interest into a hobby, a hobby into a side hustle, and that side hustle into her own full time, work from home business. What it means practically is that she had to find women like herself who were eager to become successful doing their own thing, building a business that could support them and take care of their families. And she's done exactly that. Now she runs www.SistaSense.com and has created an online community for Black Business Women at http://network.mybbwo.com/ . What company are you keeping? Do you need to find those women who can inspire you? Start by taking a listen to this episode. LaSanda and Rosetta are happy to inspire and motivate you to take the next steps.
