POPULARITY
What does it mean to be feminine? What does it mean to be masculine? More importantly, what does it look like to be connected with our divine masculine and feminine? These polarities are present in all of us; sometimes we display balanced energy and other times we are completely out of whack. In order to address an unbalanced energy, we must first know what balance looks like. Sacred masculine energy looks nothing like the toxic masculinity we've come to recognize in patriarchal society. Similarly, sacred feminine energy is in direct opposition to the clinging, desperate energy we see in the unbalanced feminine. As we wander through the woods on this misty afternoon, get in touch with the energy within you, it's time to meet the sacred! Perceiving her role as a record keeper, artist Jen Blazina captures the essence of lost memories and forgotten voices. Through her work, she holds onto fragments of personal history, transforming common objects into poignant relics of the past. Her visual narratives express universal concepts of memory, inviting audiences to connect with the stories she preserves. Blazina states: “Memory is embodied in everything around us: in our culture, beliefs, objects, and ourselves. Discarded objects and those passed down to me become personal keepsakes and icons of the past, rather than overlooked or regarded as useless. My collections represent a sense of holding onto a place in time. By re-creating these keepsakes, I re-cast their history into my own voice.” A sculptor and printmaker who uses glass as her primary medium, Blazina currently resides in Philadelphia where she is a working artist and professor at Drexel University in the College of Media Arts and Design. Blazina's work can be found in multiple collections such as the Neuberger Museum of Art, The Imagine Museum, The Cranbrook Museum of Art, and the Corning Museum of Glass, to name a few. The artist has been awarded numerous residencies including: the Corning Artist in Residency at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York; GAPP Residency at Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, OH; Bezalel Art and Design Academy in Jerusalem, Israel; and the Creative Glass Center of America in Millville, NJ. She has also been awarded prestigious grants such as the Bessie and Louis Stein Fellowship; Independence Foundation Grant; and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant. Nominated for the 2022 Pew Fellowship Award, Blazina received her M.F.A. in printmaking from Cranbrook Academy of Art, her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in New York and her B.F.A., cum laude, from the State University of New York at Purchase College. Blazina is represented by Habatat Detroit Fine Art in Royal Oak, MI; Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC; Vetri Glass Gallery in Seattle, WA; Kittrell Riffkind Gallery in Dallas, TX; Bullseye Projects in Portland, OR; and Koelsch Gallery in Houston, TX. In 2025, Blazina will have work on view at the Bergstrom Mahler Museum of Glass, Neenah, WI, in New Art on the Block: Selections from the Permanent Collections, October 31, 2024 – April 6, 2025; in Object Memory, Jen Blazina and Ash Smith at 20*20 Gallery, Lansdowne, PA, February 22 – April 15; in Through a Window Darkly, The Works of Jen Blazina at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass, April 24 to October 5, 2025; in Collections at Blue Spiral 1 Gallery, Asheville, NC, May 2 – June 25; and in Glass 53: International Glass Invitational at Habatat Fine Art Gallery, Royal Oak, MI, May 1 – September 6. She will teach Alternative Approaches to Printmaking and Glass at Corning Museum of Glass Studios, Corning, NY, June 16 – June 21; and In Pursuit of Light: Kiln Casting at Glass Furnace, Istanbul, Turkey, August 25 – August 29. Says Blazina: “As an artist, I am intrigued with the idea that what is precious to one person will be discarded by another. My work is influenced by commonplace possessions, familial vignettes and photographs. These evoke an ephemeral sense of past memories. Whether found in a second-hand shop or passed down from my family, I am often attracted to and captivated by the lost beauty of subtle images and materials. By re-creating and casting momentos in glass and metal, I can capture and hold on to another time in the past. Photographs and chosen objects allude to narratives of fleeting moments.” UPCOMING EVENTS New Art On The Block: Selections From The Permanent Collections Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass Neenah, WI Dates: October 31 – April 6, 2025 Object Memory, Jen Blazina and Ash Smith 20*20 Gallery Lansdowne, PA Dates: February 22 – April 15 Through a Window Darkly, The Works of Jen Blazina Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass Neenah, WI Opening: April 24 Dates: April 24 to October 5 Collections Blue Spiral 1 Gallery Asheville, NC Opening Reception: May 2, 5 – 7 pm Dates: May 2 – June 25 Glass 53: International Glass Invitational Habatat Fine Art Gallery Royal Oak, MI Opening: May 3, 8 pm Dates: May 1- September 6 Alternative Approaches to Printmaking and Glass Corning Museum of Glass Studios Corning, NY Dates: June 16- June 21 In Pursuit of Light: Kiln Casting Glass Furnace Istanbul, Turkey Dates: August 25 – August 29

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing ALL of the memories that we see through the Pensieve in Harry Potter. Rare and powerful, the majority of Pensieves are typically quite small devices that, due to their incredibly personal nature, are often kept on one's person. Of course, one very notable exception of this is the large Pensieve located in the Headmaster's office at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This Pensieve is used to store all of the school's Headmasters memories so that their predecessors may watch and learn from them. It's described as large, ornate, ancient, and made entirely out of stone, with engravings of modified Saxon runes etched all over it. It is also said to be so old that some witches and wizards believe that the Hogwarts' Pensieve predates even the school's castle. Learn more about your ad choices. This week on Black Hoodie Alchemy, we're releasing the third of four episodes from the now-defunct Patreon feed! Patreon will be back eventually, but no dates are set right now and I've decided that, for now, I do not want to split my time and attention up so much when it comes to my show. So this episode comprises the third installment of Chris, Seedperson and I analyzing "Existential Alchemy in Practice" by sifting through the unexplainable, surreal, and highly symbolic aspects of our lives. This week we build off our investigation of surreal, dream-like childhood memories - including a consideration of young children and the paranormal, and we also talk about the idea of Lost Media. Lost Media is art that we remember from our childhoods, media that usually made an indelible impression on us - yet we cannot find a single trace of its existence in today's world. Today, people have whole internet forums dedicated to trying to find the things that scared or inspired them as very young children. The idea of lost media, especially considering the surreal and unexplainable experiences that we often find in our youth, is quite an open-ended rabbit-hole for analytic psychology that we found extremely interesting. It's all this and a whole lot more, so we hope you dig it! This week on Not Today, Jenn and Eddie talk about lost memories at the Zoo. When is a good age to waste a ton of money on your kid at Disneyland? Where were you when OJ was in the Bronco? Jenn just had to see Kid Rock and Eddie just had to see Jack Wagner. Plus let's all play Florida Man Friday.
Dennis recently had an old review motherboard come back to the Hardware Asylum Labs and was a completely unexpected sight. The board in question is the Soltek SL-75DRV4 and was a board he first reviewed back in 2001 on Ninjalane (the Parent site). The board had leaking capacitors and was a common failure that claimed the lives of so many motherboards before their time. Later in the show the duo talk about lost Memories, not from getting old but rather losing your data due to storing SSDs for too long.

In 2020, David Gutenmacher began to buy old photographs and videos that he came across in second hand shops. He was sad about the prospect that families had been severed from their treasured memories, and so he founded the Museum of Lost Memories to try and reconnect people with their personal archives. But when he came across a video of a family on a safari holiday he realised that finding out who was in these videos might not be all that straightforward.Matthew Syed considers the role of photography and video in personal memory making, and how we go about using photos to leave a record of our existence on earth.Featuring: David Gutenmacher, Founder and curator of the Lost Memory Museum Jono Marcus Lina Henkel, professor of psychology at Fairfield UniversityPresenter: Matthew Syed Producer: Nadia Mehdi Series Editor: Katherine Godfrey Music, Sound Design & Mix: Daniel Kempson Sideways theme by Ioana Selaru A Novel production for BBC Radio 4

We discuss:The songs we feature during the recap: To My One and Only You by Xiumin and Lost Memory by Howl. How the queen is so confused about her feelings toward the king and the night they spent together. How the king is confused because the queen saved the banquet and then said she would betray the king. The king and queen realized their notes were a result of a misdelivery. The king confesses to the queen that he likes her, but she says she can't forgive him, and the old Kim So-yong is dead. How the Grand Dowager Queen and Kim Jwa-geun decide to kill the queen through arsenic frozen into ice cubes and served during a brunch with the Grand Dowager Queen. How the young court lady saves the queen by throwing a rock at her drink, but in the process, gets herself imprisoned. How Kim Jwa-geun tells the other Kim family ministers that he has the ledger, or proof of their family's corruption; as long as he is safe, he will keep the other ministers safe. The most important K Drama element in this episode is the king talking to the queen while she's sleeping. She wakes, confesses to the king (mistakenly) and that's what leads to their night together. How the young court lady is sentenced to death by drinking poison. The queen is furious with the king, until she realizes that the king has crossed fingers behind his back, a sign that what he is saying is a lie.Why the title of the episode is “The woman who must die in order to live.”A little background about the Joseon Dynasty, which was the period of continuous rule by a line of kings of the Yi family, that started in 1392 and ended in 1910, when Emperor Gojong, whom we met in Mr Sunshine, was forced to abdicate with the Japanese occupation.ReferencesJoseon Dynasty Wikipedia pageCheoljong of Joseon Wikipedia page

(This conversation was originally broadcast on March 15, 2023) Tom's guest on this archive edition of Midday is the award-winning author, Julie Otsuka. She has published three critically acclaimed novels. Her first, When the Emperor Was Divine was published in 2002, and over the past 20 years, it has been chosen by more than 60 colleges and universities as a “campus reads” book, in which everyone at those institutions reads and discusses it. In 2022, that same book was banned by the Muskego-Norway school district in Wisconsin, which deemed it inappropriate for high-school sophomores. When Tom spoke with Julie Otsuka in March, she was preparing to come to Baltimore to deliver the keynote address at the 2023 Loyola University MD Humanities Symposium. Her March 16 talk was entitled, An American Story: War, Memory and Erasure, in which she talked about her family's experience in internment camps during the second world war, and the importance of keeping those memories and those important stories alive. The launching point for her talk was her first novel, When the Emperor Was Divine. Julie Otsuka's second novel is about Japanese “picture brides,” who came to America in the early 20th century to wed men they had never met in person. It's called The Buddha in the Attic, and it won the 2012 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, and it was a finalist for the National Book Award. Her latest novel, published last year, is called The Swimmers. The story concerns a group of people who swim at a community pool regularly, and what happens when that pool develops a crack that no one can seem to explain. It's also about dementia, and the complicated relationship between a mother and her daughter. And it's about multitudes more. The American Library Association awarded it the 2023 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. Julie Otsuka is an artist who writes with power, elegance, and compassion, and The Swimmers is a book that many readers have found to be gripping and wondrous in every way.
