Isha Blaaker is an actor and model and has just made his big screen debut opposite Aunjanue Ellis, Niecy Nash, Jon Bernthal, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Finn Wittrock, and more in Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay's highly anticipated film feature “Origin” (Neon), based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson's 2020 bestselling book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.” On the television front, Isha most recently starred in debut roles for season two of “Run The World” on STARZ and opposite Colman Dolmingo in the eighth and final season of AMC's “Fear The Walking Dead.” Isha is also well-known for his role in the 12th film in Tyler Perry's iconic Madea franchise, “A Madea Homecoming.” Before Isha landed his breakout role in a feature Netflix film, he honed his craft with a handful of recurring appearances in television, appearing on the Emmy-nominated HBO Max series, “The Flight Attendant,” opposite Kaley Cuoco, as well as Violet Hour Media's horror-thriller series, “Red Riding Hoods,” and a SBS6 action series, “DNA” in the Netherlands. It wasn't long after he obtained his master's degree that he was scouted by an American modelling agency to come work in New York City, and throughout the past few years Isha has starred in major international luxury brand campaigns for the likes of Hugo Boss, L'Oreal, Ralph Lauren, and an Estée Lauder commercial opposite Ana de Armas, to name just a few. As his name continued to become more well-known in fashion, Isha developed a love for acting and began taking classes and studying the craft professionally for four years prior to booking back-to-back roles in TV and film. He now credits acting as his true passion and a daily commitment next to modelling. We chat about competitive martial arts, being the king of accents, long term success mindset, modelling, his nickname the charming boxer, hustle, his new movie plus plenty more… The video footage of this entire chat is now out as well (one day after release)! As a former karate competitor and semi-pro boxer, actor Isha Blaaker trains like an athlete in his craft. Although he may be the first featured guest on the podcast with less than 10 years of industry experience, Isha is a fast-rising star who can currently be seen in Ava DuVernay's latest feature film "Origin." In the mood for some light content, this week we reviewed Tyler Perry's A Madea Homecoming. Discussing the significance of Tyler Perry to the black community, his work from theatrical stages to movie theaters, and his uncomplicated storytelling; one thing ran true throughout his portfolio. Tyler, and subsequently, Madea movies are made for an audience that might not be your or me; but there all the same. Like Celie say: "I'm here!" And we appreciate his attention to dismissed fanbases around the globe. Listen In!
Every now and then, I come across an old interview that makes me smile when I listen to it. After watching A Madea Homecoming, this weekend and laughing at the hilarious Mr. Brown (played by David Mann). I looked through "the crates" and found this interview from 2018. We were able to do this interview while the couple was promoting their book and album project "Us Against the World". As I do from time to time, I had a guest interviewer, a good friend of mine, Tyrese Thomas. Tyrese is the leader of an amazing music group "The Healed Project", and host of the upcoming podcast "Hopester Culture". During this interview we were able to learn a lot about David and Tamela, their friendship, their beginning with Kirk Franklin, how they became Tyler Perry's Power Couple, and their advice on how to keep pushing in the music industry, in life, and in religion. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/suavvsessions/message

Madea is back! We knew she would be. While Tyler Perry claimed to retire her after A Madea Family Funeral (2019), we knew we hadn't seen the last of the Madea cinematic universe. Writer/director Tyler Perry plays Mabel "Madea" Simmons in this new Netflix film. Actually we watched and talked about this back in early March so our memory is foggy, but there is a big scene at a Red Lobster. The film also stars Cassi Davis-Patton, David Mann, Tamela Mann, Brandon Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Brendan O'Carroll. Madea will return and we will be there for it!

This week's episode we dive into The Batman, Matt Reeves' grim reimagining of Mr. Bruce Wayne. As soon as we launched Pass the Popcorn, we knew at the top of our list was to have our old friend and roommate, Josh Elder. There are few people we know who are bigger fanatics of the comic-craft and we were really eager for his perspective. He's bringing his expertise on all things Gotham so we can get truly down and nerdy on Batman: Twilight Edition. (That is what this movie is called, right?) (Josh Elder donning the wrong shirt) There has been a longstanding war on who is the more knowledgeable human. Even if that war is only in Carrie's mind, this episode, we put it to rest with a bit of impromptu trivia (much to this dismay of everybody). Josh also graces us with some of his favorite memories of Rob as a young sociopath, which has us all in tears. In worth Mentioning, by Patron Jason Dohla's request, Carrie and Rob bring So I Married an Axe Murderer, which leads to a good 10 minutes of clarifying a very side characters name. Tim brings Tyler Perry's a Madea Homecoming. Josh joins in on the fun with a historical drama, Agora. We have a spoiler-free discussion about our likes and gripes of The Batman before we give you a very clear heads-up as we veer into spoiler territory. Riddle us this, riddle us, erm, shimmy, who's the man who wrote Steven Soderbergh's Kimi? Why, that would be David Koepp, one of our cracking guests on this week's Empire Podcast. The legendary screenwriter sits down on a Zoom with Chris Hewitt and tells him all about that, being a writer on set, and much more. And riddle us this, riddle us, um, drano, why does nothing rhyme with Dano? Yes, Ben Travis and Chris have a fun audience with Paul Dano, the actor who plays The Riddler in Matt Reeves' The Batman. Either side of that, in the virtual podbooth this week, Chris and Ben are joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer for an episode in which they discuss how difficult it is to voice Paddington, nominate the movies they'd like to see become immersive hotel experiences, talk about movie news including the Bullet Train and Fantastic Beasts: The Wotsit Of Thingummy trailers, and review The Batman, Ali & Ava, The Desperate Hour, and A Madea Homecoming. Tyler Perry's character Madea has occupied a unique and polarizing space within Black American culture for more than two decades. A gun-toting elderly lady who curses and often finds herself at odds with the law, Madea has been criticized for playing into harmful stereotypes by some and beloved by others. After a brief absence, she's back in her 12th film, now streaming on Netflix: A Madea Homecoming. We talk about the film and how Tyler Perry's work straddles the line between being extremely topical and extremely old-school.

This week's episode of “Faith & Calling” has been over a year in the making – and it was well worth the wait. Paula is one-on-one with the one-and-only Tyler Perry! You know Tyler as one of the most influential men in entertainment today. He's a living legend with an accomplished career as a writer, actor, producer, director and the owner of Tyler Perry Studios, the largest production facility in the country. But what you may not know is that behind the giant success of Tyler's media empire is one jaw-dropping life story. In this episode, Tyler tells Paula about the highs and lows of a life both scarred by abuse and saved by grace. Learn the pivotal piece of advice he picked up from "The Oprah Winfrey Show" as a young person that would heal his pain and reveal his purpose. Hear how his path from broke to billionaire was paved by hearing the audible voice of God and having an enduring faith, which he defines as “getting up to try again.” Get his best advice, as a self-taught creator, for anyone doubting they have the right experience for the calling on their heart. And discover the tried and true Bible verse he turns to when it comes to working for his dreams. Hint: it's no shortcut. From dead ends to dreaming bigger, Tyler is one of the hardest working and most successful storytellers in Hollywood, with dozens of feature films, stage plays, and tv shows credited to his name – including his most famous character, Madea, who is back for “A Madea Homecoming” on NETFLIX! Paula gets the scoop on what the pandemic had to do with everybody's favorite grandma coming out of retirement, plus what Tyler's next big project is – and why it's been 26 years in the making! “To whom much is given, much is expected” and Tyler's life is a testament to what striving to be faithful in all circumstances looks like. If you're looking for the encouragement to put in the work, challenge the norm, embrace the valleys and keep persevering with whatever lies before you – then consider this special conversation an open floodgate of faith and fortitude from the wildly talented Tyler Perry. Actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry tells us why it was time to bring Madea out of retirement for his latest movie, A Madea Homecoming. Filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk discusses his new animated short, Angakusajaujuq: The Shaman's Apprentice, and the importance of preserving Inuit culture through film. Singer-songwriter Basia Bulat talks about reimagining a selection of her old songs on her latest album, The Garden.
Madea is back! After retiring the classic character in 2019, Tyler Perry has brought her back for A Madea Homecoming on Netflix. Perry is, of course, reprising the role of the title character, and is accompanied by longtime Madea players Cassi Davis-Patton, David Mann and Tamela Mann, as well as some exciting additions to the cast. The critics have already seen the movie, which is now available for streaming on Netflix, so let's check out what they have to say about Perry's newest movie. Tyler Perry told audiences to "get ready," as A Madea Homecoming features the extended family all coming together for the title character's great-grandson's college graduation. You can imagine drama quickly ensues as secrets start to come out, but Madea is determined not to let anything ruin the celebration. Tyler Perry's latest offering for Netflix, A Madea Homecoming, brings the family together for a celebration. For those familiar with the gruff grandma's roots on stage will recognize both the structuring and the casual combativeness of this family dynamic. For newcomers, it's an introduction to an established ensemble in a way that doesn't feel like it is leaving them out. But it's 2022, and when it comes to issues like theft of Black homes due to prohibitive property taxes (aka gentrification) and reallocation of tax dollars into programs that positively impact communities instead of police departments (aka defund the police), there's just no room for flippancy or slanted messaging. Perry's style smacks too much of stunted respectability politics and inserts the topics into the narrative in ways that "attack" the messenger and overly simplifies (or ignores) the message. Ultimately, Madea's 12th movie outing is nothing new and raises the question of whether coming out of retirement was a good call. A Madea Homecoming is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.I love all madea movies this one was gross and weird as hell. Bad jokes super mainstream. Worst tyler perry work, dont waste your time trying to watch its got weird. Makes me wanna never watch another tyler perry movie, the worse it gets just like this review basically just do not waste your time, i know he gets a lot of hate and i never thought he deserved it until now.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
