Definitive Ranking returns! This week, we're examining Milton Guasti's Another Metroid II Remake, or AM2R, the fan game so unbelievably good we can rank it on the same level as official Metroid games! We're going through and ranking it by the same standards as we would an official Nintendo-made Metroid game, talking about the boss inclusions, how Metroid fights could have been implemented differently, some of the crazy expansions, and more! Come play along, and as always, here's the criteria for the Definitive Rankings: World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood) Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general) Story (what works, what doesn't) Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?) Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like) Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical) Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.) Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.) Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?) Music (are we humming along?) Of course, all of these are subjective, and we're putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Bluesky! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! We're back with another episode of Logbook Archives, our lore-centric series, and this week, we're examining the most important - and mysterious - faction in the Metroid universe: the Galactic Federation! Little is known about this organization, but we go over and cover everything we know, starting with the history and formation, through the Prime Era, Project Golem, the Metroid Crisis, the Bottle Ship Incident, the BSL Incident, and ZDR's E.M.M.I. theft. We examine the tech Sylux stole, the mysterious Ringleader faction, and the Metroid experiments. To end it off, we speculate on what role the Galactic Federation could play in Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid 6! All this, PLUS some thoughts on Sinners and plugging Omega Metroid's Metroid Prime Hunters Single-Player and Multiplayer Walkthrough! Come and hang out with us! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels, and welcome back to another edition of 'Save it for the 'cast!' Kevin gets things started off with a handful of games that he's been playing with his nephew lately, and praises Nintendo's ability to cater to younger kids — and also rambles on about the fantastic Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes. John & Randall jump into the conversation after that, as we dive into a a little more Zelda & Metroid discussion, try to figure out how to pronounce the word "quarry," and more... Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a new series of series on the independent games of the last couple of decades, starting with 2012's Fez. We set the game in its time, talk a bit about its precedents and the landscape of independent games in the middle of that console generation. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Single-digit cubes Issues covered: our real plan or lack thereof, early games, the indie revolution, the influences back and forth, the pressure of the space we're in, a highly visible indie, games from that year, sequels vs the different stuff in the indies, democratization of the market, the console cycle, always online fiasco, getting on the Steam store, opening console store fronts to independents, limitations, the broadband market and bandwidth costs, the publicity on the store, low cost of goods, continuing power of retail, a two dimensional puzzle game in a three dimensional world, charm, great music and MIDI with an unsettling feel, rotating the world, rebooting the game, achieving the effect without perspective, the Trixel engine, having a hard time getting it, trusting the game, having a new lens on a game, taking the time to infuse the whole experience, team sizes, telling a different story with an existing language, having fewer people to get on board, independent publishers and producers, influences, glitch aesthetics, map language, climbing on the sides of things, stopping time while the world rotates, how the editor might work, games from the past, CONFIG.SYS (dang it, could not remember), skipping over generations. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Will Wright, Indie Game: The Movie, Polytron, Phil Fish, Dishonored, Halo 4, AW American Nightmare, X-COM, Firaxis, Mass Effect 3, Forza Horizon, Far Cry (series), Counterstrike: Go, Assassin's Creed 3, Borderlands 2, Diablo III, Dragon's Dogma, Journey, The Walking Dead, Telltale Games, FTL, Spelunky, Papo y Yo, Bastion, Super Hexagon, Terry Cavanaugh, Supergiant, Hades, Transistor, UFO 50, Derek Yu, That Game Company, Sky, Sony, PlayStation, Microsoft, Steam, XBLA, Braid, Super Meat Boy, Nintendo, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Zelda (series), Super Mario (series), Metroid (series), Outer Wilds, The Sixth Sense (obliquely), Renaud Bedard, Trapdoor, Penny Arcade, blitworks, Tetris, Axiom Verge, Tron, Out of this World, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Super Mario 3D Land, Minecraft, Sam, Interstate '76, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. Everyone has a list and everyone guesses on each other's list. At the end, the player that won the most rounds wins the episode! But watch out for the robot Deus Guess Machina! He averages all of our guesses together for his own guess Shan's list Sam's list John's list Trivia Card Show Topic Nintendo Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility: Great in the short term The death of physical? Some games will be “Game Key Cards”, which act as a physical key but require download of data to play. Confirmed Key card games: Bravely Default Flying Fairy Street Fighter VI Surprisingly not cyberpunk? Playasia listing suggest this for Elden Ring: Tarnished edition (not 100% confirmed). This will be labeled on the box at the bottom Game key cards are NOT tied to a specific account (despite some reports to the contrary) https://www.theverge.com/news/644803/nintendo-switch-2-game-key-cards-trade-borrow-resell Possibly comparable to CD-ROMs in PC gaming when they were still relevant. (Data was written to hard drive during install, but disc still needed to boot. A cost cutting measure? Is this why Mario kart world is extra expensive The Biggest disadvantage: Downloads not always available. Switch 2 Upgrade games such as Metroid Prime 4 will also require a download, even if the switch 2 version is purchased. Gamecube NSO Day 1: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker F-Zero GX Soul Calibur II Available Later Super Mario Sunshine Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness Super Mario Strikers Chibi-Robo Luigi's Mansion Pokémon Colosseum NSO Wishlist: Per Presto's Question: Sam: Odama, Custom Robo, Warioware Inc., Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2, Star Fox Assault, Dokapon The World Community Couch Datfast (John) — 4/3/2025 9:38 AM @everyone we will having a Switch 2 conversation on the next episode! We are going to try to focus more on the Retro side of things but you know we won't be able to help ourselves lol. If you have any questions or just want to share your thoughts on the direct, tell us here and we will discuss them! Thanks Drex1981 — 4/3/2025 9:48 AM When I first saw the announcement trailer in January. I immediately thought to myself this looks like what a switch pro was going to be. However I was curious and looking forward to the direct and after seeing the direct, this doesnt feel like a new console to me. It basically feel like the Switch Pro. For 499 bucks? And 80 bucks per game. I'm going to wait or just buy a steam deck. Eric Plunk — 4/3/2025 9:50 AM I want to see a TV dinner style tray to use the mouse function on with interchangeable tray tops. Bonus points if they have one that looks like the SNES mouse pad DoubleD — 4/3/2025 10:51 AM For me, this is exactly what I wanted for the next Nintendo console. This direct was a complete 180 from the previous one, where the only thing that really got me hyped was Metroid Prime 4. I'm 100% on board with being an early adopter for this, whereas, I wasn't when the original Switch was announced. They're truly making a version of the Switch that I always wanted. Not only that, but they also announced games that I'm excited for, which seals the deal that it's going to be a day 1 purchase. I didn't expect it, but the game I am most excited for is DK Bananza! Also, with my kids getting older and moving out, I love the integrated video chat and screen sharing options. I still won't get the higher tier of NSO though, so I'll just keep playing Gamecube games on my Gamecube, but I love that they added it. SNES_is_Life — 4/3/2025 10:53 AM DK looks great for sure. txTrey — 4/3/2025 11:29 AM My kids are still younger, but my third thought about that chat stuff was that I could do it with them when they move out or go to college. I still have probably one more Nintendo console release before that happens, so hopefully it carries forward ChrisHL94

What do Mario 64 and Wingspan have in common? Both are games that we turn to when we need to give our minds a break and relax through stress, anxiety and the like. What does Metroid and Rhythm Heaven have in common? They're among the last games that Nintendo will publish on the Nintendo Switch. We chat about what will likely be the last Nintendo Direct for one of the greatest consoles of all time. And, naturally, we chat through the games of April. Plenty coming there to look forward to!

Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We're shorthanded once again, but a little long-winded nevertheless, as John & Kevin get pretty deep into a handful a various gaming goodies... Kevin kicks things off with a trio of mobile games that he's been (mostly) enjoying lately, even if he's playing one of them on PC — while John briefly jumps at an opportunity to give a quick update on his time with Outer Wilds. It's all things Metroid(vania) after that, as we've both been picking up a number of games starring the one and only Samus Aran — as well revisiting an amazing experimental mini metroidvania from the one and only Daniel Linssen.
