On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the last week and a bit of Coronation Street, covering the 16th to the 23rd May (Episodes #11,571 - 11,578) It actually worked out quite well that we didn't get to watch Corrie's big flashback episode until this week – sharing our thoughts on it now makes for a nice lead-in to everything that's happening in the present day. We ended up having some pretty different takes on the episodes too – from whether the flashbacks were even necessary to how Craig's death was handled. But one thing we did agree on – and sorry if this sounds like a bit of a cliché – is that this felt like one of the furthest departures from ‘proper Corrie' we've ever seen, with its intense focus on police action and a main cast made up mostly of relatively new characters. There's a lot to unpack this week, and we hope you enjoy the discussion (even if some of it does veer into a bit of a whinge!). Up next on the podcast it's the news segment, where we check out who from Corrie has found themselves on the longest for the annual National Television Awards, and we round off the show with some more listener feedback. Comedian and broadcaster Joel Dommett grew up on a farm in Gloucestershire but, with no interest in getting his hands dirty, he set off for the bright lights of London. He is blessed with funny bones and, after some challenging years on MTV News, he set his sights on stand-up comedy. A stint in the Jungle in 2016 secured his big break and he returned the following year as the host of I'm a Celebrity... Extra Camp. These days Joel Dommett is prime time, presenting The Masked Singer and the National Television Awards. He is married to Hannah and, as well as hosting a podcast together, they are parents to baby Wilde. Joel is here to talk about the new series of his ITV game show In with a Shout. Joel arrives early for dinner, so Nick gets busy mixing one of his favourite cocktails, a peach paloma and the pair tuck into some pea guacamole and chips, a recipe from Honey & Co. Joel loves Mexican food, so Angela prepares some tasty smoky fish tacos. The experts at Waitrose pair the meal with a No.1 Astrolabe Awatere Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Joel is very excited to be seated at the Dish table and kicks off conversation with some hilarious tales of his experience in the labour ward. He talks about the time he had to film some awkward scenes with Sienna Miller and shares the questionable topping he used to put on his pizza. We're days away from moving house now, and with a whole lot of packing still to be done, we decided to make this a somewhat shorter than normal episode of the podcast - though that's still only short by our standards, of course, so there's still nearly two hours to listen to! In our final Street Talk segment recorded in the place that's been home to Conversation Street for the past nine years, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 6th and the 10th September (Episodes #10422 - 10425). It's almost as if Corrie knew we didn't want to spend too long on this edition of the podcast as there were only four episodes broadcast this week rather than the usual six, and what a great set of eps they were! Continuing the momentum set up by last week's courtroom drama, this week's action saw both Kelly and Laura take the stand - though it quickly became apparent that getting her mum to testify was about as good a decision for Kelly as agreeing to go out to the wasteland with Corey that fateful evening in May.. We may not have been too surprised by the final verdict when it was delivered on Friday, but the last few scenes of the episode had a couple of developments that made our jaws drop - and actually led to a podcasting first for Michael..! Similarly to last week, we also had a couple of unnecessary appearances from a handful of other storylines on Monday: Eileen and George finally get together after fall-out number 327, Curtis gets bladdered and we're both convinced he has Munchausen's, and Hope's got the back to school blues and our Michael can empathise - perhaps throwing slime at a display board might be an idea for letting off steam for him too..?  We decided to give the feedback section a miss for this episode, but we couldn't possibly ignore the Kabin, considering how well Corrie's done in the awards this week, picking up a hat-trick from the TV Choice and the National Television Awards! We chat about our reactions to who won what, who gave the best acceptance speech and, for the first time in a jolly long while thanks to the pandemic, we give our commentary on the fashion of the night at the NTAs! Speaking Business podcast

At this time, it strikes me that we have an opportunity to look at our lives and our businesses in a new way and maybe get creative about what the future can bring.  So, I thought it would be good to talk about creativity and get some techniques and advice from my guest this week, BAFTA award-winning comedy writer and creativity expert, Tim Reid. Bio Tim Reid is a multiple award-winning comedy writer, best known for co-creating and co-writing the BAFTA winning sitcom, CAR SHARE. As well as winning the BAFTA for Best Scripted Comedy, CAR SHARE also won Best Original Programme at the Broadcast Awards, 2016; Most Popular Comedy Series at the National Television Awards, 2016; and Best TV Entertainment Programme at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards. In addition to being a successful comedy writer, Tim is a world class innovation expert, and he’s passionate about combining these two skills to help businesses become as creative as comedians.  Tim has worked for some of the worlds most creative organisations, including global ad agencies, innovation consultancies and the BBC. He’s helped clients from beer brands to broadcasters, confectioners to condom makers reimagine the future and re-invent their businesses. Tim is quite possibly unique in the world of advertising having worked in every discipline available in an ad agency. He started his career as an adman at J Walter Thompson as a Media Planner, before moving to McCann Erickson as an Account Director, then Strategic Planner, and finally as an award-winning Copywriter. Tim’s unwillingness to be boxed in by a job title or discipline reflects his approach to creativity, and his ethos in inspiring creative thinking in others. From his unique position as both a successful innovation consultant and comedy writer, Tim has drawn together a practical guide to applying the trade secrets used by top creative professionals, comedians and writers. During the process of writing, developing, and filming a major sitcom for BBC One, Tim learned first-hand how many of the same tools and techniques of creativity and idea generation are used by writers, comedians and commercial innovators alike. This week on the podcast, we talk about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 27th and the 31st January. It doesn't happen all too often, but we do quite like it when storylines cross over in unexpected ways, and we did think that linking the story of Daniel not getting Bertie vaccinated with Maria's miscarriage really was quite clever on Wednesday. On the whole, though, we weren't too impressed by this week's offerings from Corrie, and if, like us, you don't find baby stories particularly riveting, you may not have found a whole lot to like! And once Street Talk is over, the Kev the Crank-worthy rants and bants just keep on coming, as the middle section this week is the triumphant return of the Joni Awards! Now in its third year, the Jonis are a tongue-in-cheek opportunity for us to let off steam and have a good old moan about the past year's Corrie, be it improbable jumps in logic, Weatherfield residents who seemingly have a personality transplant, or the over-use of certain characters over the 12 month period. And we think you know which particular character we're referring to there... Next up on the podcast, we report back on Corrie's impressive result at the National Television Awards before reading out a bit of listener feedback. We finish off the bumper length show with a chat about next week's landmark 10,000th episode, sharing our initial reactions to what has been revealed so far and giving our predictions based on the delightfully intriguing synopsis. Recorded on April 6th, 2016. Career Conversations with David Tennant. Moderated by BroadwayWorld.com's Richard Ridge of "Backstage with Richard Ridge!" Over his twenty-seven year long acting career, David Tennant has left a trail of memorable characters over an expansive and diverse array of film, television and on stage credits. Currently, David can be seen on stage as the title character in Shakespeare’s Richard II as a part of the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s King & Country: Shakespeare’s Great Cycle Of Kings series. The series marks the celebration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and will run at the BAM Harvey Theater through April 29th. This past November, Tennant starred as the villainous ‘Dr. Zebediah Kilgrave’ otherwise known as ‘The Purple Man’ opposite Krystin Ritter in the Netflix Marvel series Jessica Jones. The streaming service aired the 13-episode in its entirety on November 20th, 2015. Tennant will next star as the world-renowned Scottish psychiatrist RD Laing in Robert Mullan’s Mad to be Normal alongside Elizabeth Moss. The story follows Dr. Laing and his unique community at Kingsley Hall, East London during the 1960’s. The film completed production the past Fall of 2015 and is set to release in 2016. Tennant is most recently known for his role as detective ‘Alec Hardy,’ on the critically acclaimed BBC crime series Broadchurch. Tennant ‘s character was brought to the small town of Broadchurch to investigate the murder of an 11-year-old local boy. In its second season, Broadchurch was nominated and won several awards, including the 2014 BAFTA TV Award for “Best Drama Series.” Season 3 of the series will begin filming this summer. Tennant starred alongside Rosamund Pike in the British comedy What We Did on Our Holiday as the dad of a family who struggles keeping any secret quiet on their family trip. Lionsgate released the film in the US and on VOD on July 10th, 2015. Tennant is most recognizable for his portrayal as the 10th Doctor on the widely beloved series Doctor Who. The BBC science fiction series itself has become a pop culture fixture and a fifty-year cult favorite. It depicts the adventures of the time traveling humanoid alien Doctor as he defends himself against foes and protects whole civilizations and people in need. In November 2013, and 2015 as part of Doctor Who‍‍ '‍s 50th Anniversary celebrations, Tennant's Doctor was voted "The UK's Favourite Doctor" in a survey held by the Radio Times magazine. Tennant has appeared in many spin-offs of the series. These include: his directorial debut on the 2007 “Doctor Who Confidential” episode; a small role in the show’s webcast “Scream of the Shalka”; an appearance as the Doctor in an animated version of the show for CBBC’s Totally Doctor Who, The Infinite Quest; and a starring role as the Doctor in another animated six-part Doctor Who series entitled Dreamland. An enthusiast and loyal supporter of the series, Tennant announced that he would be stepping down from the role in 2008 after his participation in the 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor.” For his part in the show, Tennant won three TV Quick Awards, three SFX Awards, four National Television Awards, and two BAFTA awards, among numerous other nominations over the course of his four-year Doctor tenure.

Eilish O’ Carroll plays Winne McGoogan on the hugely successful sitcom ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, which has not only been a big hit in the UK and Ireland but also in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. As part of Mrs Brown’s Boys, she has appeared on a spin-off TV chat show (All around to Mrs Brown’s) and a box-office hit movie (Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie). The show has also won a whole raft of awards including National Television Awards and a Bafta. She is currently in the middle of a UK and Ireland arena tour for a musical version of the show. Eilish herself has toured with her own one woman show entitled ‘Live. Laugh. Love’, which received rave reviews at the Edinburgh Festival in 2016. Eilish is an incredible woman and she gave a really candid interview. I met up with her in Dublin and we chatted about; her lack of awareness of homosexuality growing up in holy Catholic Ireland of the 50s and 60s, how turning 40 and falling for a woman was the catalyst for her coming out process, how she struggled with her sexuality throughout her 40s, telling her husband she was in love with a woman, the misconceptions she held herself about the lesbian lifestyle coming out to her friends and neighbours and the bigotry she encountered whilst campaigning for marriage equality in 2015. Matt Smith is best known as the eleventh Timelord in the BBC One series, Doctor Who. At 26, he became the youngest actor to take the part. His future looked set to be in football: he played at youth level for Northampton Town, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City until a serious back condition ended his highly promising career prematurely. His drama teacher encouraged him to take up acting and he joined the National Youth Theatre and studied drama at the University of East Anglia. He played Lockwood in the National Theatre's touring production of The History Boys and was nominated for an Evening Standard Best Newcomer Award for his performance in Polly Stenham's That Face. He also appeared as a political researcher in the BBC Two parliamentary drama, Party Animals. Despite being a surprise choice to play The Doctor in 2009, he became the first actor to be nominated for a BAFTA television award for his performance in this role, and has won two National Television Awards. When he left Doctor Who at the end of 2013, he appeared on stage as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho: The Musical. In 2016 he took the part of HRH Prince Philip Mountbatten, The Duke of Edinburgh, in the Netflix series The Crown, and received great acclaim, leaving the role at the end of the second series in late 2017. On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 22nd and 26th January. To kick things off, we cover the outcome and aftermath of Anna's trial on Monday - though the guilty verdict was neither deserved nor unexpected, it's fair to say that we weren't exactly sad to see her banged up at the end of the episode; in fact, it was the musical montage sequence that really got our hackles up the most! Also this week, Sarah, Gail and Audrey have a nice family day out to the local lapdancing club, and there's terrible news for Toyah.. but is that an opportunity presenting itself in the form of Eva's unwanted sprog? After Street Talk, we do a character profile revisit on Anna. It was quite funny to hear some of the things we said about her last time we profiled her in Episode 30, and it's fair to say there's been a bit of a change of opinion since then! Next up, we celebrate Lucy Fallon's win and cast an eye over the red carpet fashion a the National Television Awards, then there's a voicemail and a few other emails to round off the show in the feedback section.
