In this very special episode of Celebrate Your Story, I sit down with someone many of you know well: former NBA All-Star and legendary rebounder Jayson Williams. After a brilliant career cut short by injuries, Jayson went through some very dark years — addiction, public struggle, and eventually incarceration. But he refused to let his past define him. Instead, he chose gratitude, accountability, and the hard work of rebuilding. In doing so, he's helping others rebuild their lives too. Jayson walks me through the journey that led him to create REBOUND, a program grounded in outdoor adventure and spiritual grounding for adults in recovery and returning from incarceration. From paddleboarding to skydiving, REBOUND gives its participants confidence, connection, and a sense of possibility. He also shares his newest effort, REBOUND on the Road, an eight-week truck-driving program in Nassau County that helps people earn commercial licenses and take their first steps toward meaningful careers. This is a story about resilience and the power of lifting others as you rise. I hope you'll tune in to hear Jayson's extraordinary second act and the impact he's making every day.
It's taken the Menschwarmers several weeks of mourning to get over the Toronto Blue Jays' World Series loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and no amount of broadcast cutaways to 89-year-old Sandy Koufax in the crowd during that intense seven-game series can help. But now, weeks later, after the shivas have ended for that miracle run, The CJN's sports podcasters are back—and they have a lot to look forward to. In this episode, they take note of Deni Avdija, the Portland Trail Blazer who's having a breakout season that could make him the first Israeli to ever make an NBA All-Star team. Then they turn to Zach Hyman, who triumphantly returned to the Edmonton Oilers and immediately logged a career-high 11 hits in a game, after getting injured in last season's Western Conference Finals and missing the Stanley Cup Finals entirely. After that, they look south to college football, where Jake Retzlaff has lead the Tulane Green Wave to tie for first place in the American Conference. There are plenty of accomplishments worth celebrating for Jewish athletes—catch up on what's happening with this week's episode of Menschwarmers. RUNDOWN We're in a foul mood after the Seahawks' ugly loss to the Rams, unpacking Sam Darnold's four-interception stinker, the looming backlash from "I told you so" Darnold haters, and the gut-punch of Gray Zabel's injury. Mitch unleashes a full-on rant about Greg Olsen's broadcast style ("constant blabber"), while Scott notes how different the offense looks without Tory Horton on the field. The mood finally lifts with the news that the Mariners have locked up Josh Naylor on a five-year extension, giving Seattle fans a much-needed jolt of optimism. And then some baseball outrage: Cal Raleigh narrowly finishes second in AL MVP to Aaron Judge. Mitch is joined by Brady Henderson (ESPN) and Jacson Bevens (Cigar Thoughts) to break down the Seahawks' 21–19 loss to the Rams — a game that somehow stayed close despite four interceptions from Sam Darnold and a red-zone drought. Brady calls it Darnold's first true "stinker" as a Seahawk, noting that none of the INTs were flukes, while Jacson credits a defense that "played its balls off" despite brutal field position. The trio discuss the seriousness of rookie guard Gray Zabel's knee injury, the need for Kubiak to scheme around an unstable interior line, and Darnold's growing turnover trend (now 14 on the year). Mitch welcomes back CBS College Football Analyst Rick Neuheisel, presented by Taco Time Northwest, to unpack a chaotic Week 12 in college football — starting with Rick's victory lap on his perfectly predicted Penn State cover. From there, the guys dive into a jam-packed headline wheel: Lane Kiffin's status as the hottest name on the coaching carousel (and why Rick believes he'll land at Florida), Georgia's dominance over Texas, Oklahoma's big win in Tuscaloosa, Texas A&M's shocking 30–3 comeback, and the SEC's suddenly muddled playoff picture. Mitch revisits Episode Zero — the never-meant-to-be-public "exhibition game" that quietly launched Mitch Unfiltered back in 2018. What begins as a joke about their faux–"Fool in the Rain" theme song turns into a hilarious, chaotic retelling of the infamous team-bus-fire in Auburn, complete with blown tires, smoke pouring into the cabin, players stampeding into a ditch, and the bus erupting in flames seconds after everyone escaped. That 1999 playoff shot with 8 tenths of a second left made Allan Houston a New York Knicks legend. But the man behind that iconic moment is so much more than a clutch shooter. In this raw conversation, the NBA All-Star and Olympic gold medalist opens up about growing up as the son of pioneering coach Wade Houston, battling career-ending injuries, and his journey from Madison Square Garden to mentoring the next generation. Allan shares his FISLL principles—Faith, Integrity, Sacrifice, Leadership, and Legacy—and why he believes legacy isn't something you look back on, it's something you're writing right now. As a father of seven and chaplain for the Knicks, Allan reveals what it really takes to keep family at the center when the world pulls you in every direction, the moment his faith became his own at 16, and the unspoken pressures of life under the brightest lights in basketball. What You'll Hear: The real story behind THAT Miami shot and what happened the next day Why his father almost made him stay at Louisville instead of playing for him at Tennessee How 90s basketball compares to today's game Navigating the disappointment when your body stops cooperating with your will Why "legacy is a verb" and what that means for your life right now This isn't just a basketball story, it's about preparing for your moment, finding faith when self-belief isn't enough, and understanding that true greatness comes from what you give back.
