When it comes to educating kids about sexuality, a ‘one and done' conversational approach is just not enough to equip them with the knowledge and understanding they need to make sense of sex and gender in our cultural landscape. So if that doesn't work, what should we be doing? As we continue our series working through different themes around God and sexuality, Juli and Hannah Nitz sit down in this special edition bonus episode to explain what it looks like to teach your kids about biblical sexuality in our current cultural moment.     Guest: Hannah Nitz     Looking for more resources on talking to kids about sex? In this episode, I interview speech and language pathologist, Lenora Edwards, M.S. CCC-SLP, to address the concerns that many of you have regarding your child's delayed speech and communication skills. Here are some interesting facts about speech delays in children. In an analysis of nearly 2.5 million children younger than 5 years old, researchers at health-analytics company, Truveta, found that for each year of age, first-time speech delay diagnosis increased by an average of 1.6 times between 2018-19 and 2021-22. The highest increase was among 1-year-olds, the researchers said. But why are we seeing this trend? Is it due to the pandemic? Is it due to the increase of screen time as a society? Our special guest helps us have this important conversation as well as provide insights if you suspect your child needs help.About This Episode's Special Guest:Website: https://www.betterspeech.com/Start Now: https://www.betterspeech.com/start-nowBetter Speech Resources: https://www.betterspeech.com/blogFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourbetterspeech/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@better.speechInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/betterspeech/Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/company/better-speech/mycompany/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BetterSpeechVideoFinancial Assistance: www.betterspeech.com/consult-financial-aid*EMAIL LIST*Click here to join my email list for more free content to help you on your parenting journey!or go to strongermindsstrongeryouth.com/jointhelist*REACH OUT & SHARE*Email me your stories to share with others parents just like you @ jessika@strongermindsstrongeryouth.com *CONNECT WITH ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA!!!* & *TAG ME IN YOUR STORIES!!!*#jessikashields or @strongermindsstrongeryouthGet Social to Stay Connected!!!FB: @StrongerMindsStrongerYouthInstagram: @StrongerMindsStrongerYouthLinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/jessikashieldsTo access more Podcast resources, visit strongermindsstrongeryouth.comThank you for listening!

Racism and Gender issues are in the news and there is a hot debate whether all the nuances should be discussedWhy are Racism and Gender Issues So Taboo to Discuss in the Classroom?Racism and gender issues can be taboo to discuss in the classroom for several reasons, including:Fear of causing discomfort: Discussions of racism and gender issues can bring up uncomfortable feelings and memories for some students. Teachers may be hesitant to broach these topics for fear of making students feel upset or angry.Lack of knowledge or training: Teachers may not feel equipped to lead discussions about racism and gender issues. They may not have received training on how to address these topics in a classroom setting, or they may not have a deep understanding of the issues themselves.Concerns about controversy: Teachers may worry that discussing racism and gender issues will be controversial and may upset parents, administrators, or other stakeholders. This can lead them to avoid the topics altogether.Time constraints: Teachers may feel like they do not have enough time to properly address these complex topics in the classroom. They may worry that they will not be able to cover the necessary material while also allowing time for discussion and reflection. What are the Negative Consequences of Not Talking about Race and Gender in the Classroom? Not talking about race and gender in the classroom can have several negative consequences, including:Reinforcing stereotypes and biases: When race and gender are not discussed in the classroom, students may develop incomplete or inaccurate views of these topics based on the limited information they have access to. This can reinforce harmful stereotypes and biases that perpetuate inequality and discrimination.Fostering ignorance and apathy: Without discussions about race and gender, students may lack the knowledge and understanding necessary to recognize and address issues of inequality and discrimination. This can lead to a sense of apathy or disengagement when it comes to social justice issues.Creating discomfort and disengagement: When students from marginalized communities do not see themselves or their experiences represented in the classroom, they may feel uncomfortable or disengaged from the learning process. This can lead to feelings of isolation and disconnection from the academic community.Missing opportunities for learning and growth: Discussions of race and gender can provide valuable opportunities for learning and growth. When these topics are not addressed in the classroom, students miss out on important opportunities to build empathy, develop critical thinking skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.Visit my NEW Website! https://openmindspodcast.com/Check out my Instagram/Tik Tok for daily posts: @openmindspodcast

So this is the first in a series of sporadic episodes, I will be sharing on the many aspects of this subject. Patty De Biase - I taught for Broward County, Florida, for 38 years from K to 5th. My favorite was 3rd. I retired during c-vid to take. care. of my new grandbaby. So with a lot of time on my hands, I started to get more politically involved to make sure. people get out and vote. I'm Vp. for the Hispanic Caucus and. secretary for the Weston Democratic Club. I am also involved with the Truth Matters project which is non- party just issues based. WE have been going to all the school board meetings and speaking out from diversity. Whatever the school board throws out there we make sure it's all true or we are confronting them. Her works include: "The Fight for Magicallus", a children's fantasy; "If you'd Just Listened to Me in the First Place", a humorous short story; and three books of humorous essays: "I'm Not Talking about You, Of Course," "A Trip to the Hardware Store & Other Calamities," and "A Smidge of Crazy", from her series, "Quirky Essays for Quirky People." Current applicants can rest assured that law schools will continue to value the LSAT and offer merit scholarships to attract high-scoring applicants. LSAT Demon LSAT Demon iOS App LSAT Demon Daily Watch Episode 378 on YouTube Thinking LSAT YouTube LSAT Demon YouTube 4:01 - Rankings and ABA News - Nathan and Ben discuss the implications of top law schools withdrawing from the U.S. News rankings and the ABA's decision to remove the standardized test requirement for law school applicants. For now, these changes are unlikely to affect law school admissions in any meaningful way. 13:58 - Angela Vorpahl - Angela Vorpahl helps law students take control of their 1L grades through her consulting business and YouTube channel. Angela joins Ben to discuss why students need actionable study plans. She also shares the top five mistakes that students make on final exams. 32:38 - Mistake #1: Not Creating a Study Plan - Angela explains why you shouldn't simply study for your first exam first. Instead, create a schedule that spaces out your study in the buildup to exam week. 41:30 - Mistake #2: Repeating the Facts of the Case - On law school exams, you don't get points for simply repeating the facts of the case. Instead, you should use the facts in the context of your arguments about the relevant issues. 45:21 - Mistake #3: Ignoring Format - Make an effort to format your arguments so the professor can more easily award you points for them. In some cases, this might mean numbering your arguments. 52:12 - Mistake #4: Not Talking to Your Professors - Angela recommends talking to your professors in person to ask about their formatting preferences for their final exams. Professors are also invaluable resources for finding jobs and securing letters of recommendation. 59:20 - Mistake #5: Trying to Get the Answers “Right” - On law school exams, you get points by making arguments and counterarguments for each issue you spot. You aren't expected to—and shouldn't try to—get the question “right.” Angela discusses why “thinking like a lawyer” helps avoid blind spots that might sabotage your exam. 1:05:41 - Final Advice - Angela advises you to think of law school as a step toward the life you want to build. After all, you attend law school to become a lawyer, not a law student.

We're already over a year post the murder of George Floyd, and the global reckoning this atrocious act sparked, but really, how much can we say has changed? This podcast has taken a while to come out, so we're not as up-to-date as we could be, however, the issues we speak about in this episode are long standing, and universal. Ceramics, especially in the UK, is often the territory of the white middle classes, and we have a long way to go in the discipline before we can call ourselves an equitable, access-for-all type of field. The UK has the added excuse of that good old ‘we're not racist' report that the government brought out in March 2021, and centuries of profiting from a colonialism that operated with the human cost of slavery happening largely in other countries. There's a culture in Britain of ignoring the difficult questions and our particular brand of racism is more insidious than the out there in your face type that is more likely found in America. Perhaps because of this, as with the open studio model, the US ceramic field is slightly further on than us when discussing access, institutional racism and the self organised networks that have sprung up to combat it.I speak exclusively to artists from America for this episode, and we hear from some truly inspiring ceramic artists who are challenging institutional models in education, gallery and beyond to create more equitable spaces and communities for and by artists of colour. Hierarchies fail to use the creativity and wisdom of workers close to the problems, to deliver fair and equitable solutions and create right relationships. The record is a fascinating and hugely enjoyable example in their progression as a band. Their continued growth serves both as a bit of a reflection on the times, as well as an exciting jump into a comparatively new sound. In this episode of What We're Not Talking about, larry Indiviglia shares his beautiful and heartwarming story of falling in love with his late wife Gayle and how he let go of fear in the face of death. Show notes at: https://www.theempathyfront.com/47

Award-winning writer and director Mike Bartlett didn't always write: he dabbled in acting at university and afterwards wanted to go into directing theatre but would always “flunk the interviews”. Bad times. He began to write for a few reasons - one of which was boredom - and suddenly found his job interviews started to go well. Good times. The reason? “Because I didn't have to sell myself - I just put the script on the table. It was all about the work, not me.” His latest show on BBC One was the massively popular Doctor Foster starring Suranne Jones and Bertie Carvel. The series was the most watched new BBC TV drama so far this year with nearly 8 million people tuning into the finale. Writing for TV didn't come until quite a few years into his career, but that wasn't a conscious decision, he says. Mike has written for quite a few mediums. He's adapted theatre for radio (Not Talking), turned radio plays into stage plays (Contractions) and written for TV (ITV's The Town and BBC One's Doctor Foster). Is his approach the same for all those mediums? What are the main differences he's found? In this podcast Mike talks to Henry Swindell of BBC Writersroom about the importance of planning before writing absolutely anything. He discusses the differences when writing for different mediums, talks about how he came to write for TV, and shares his techniques for getting into the psyche for writing.
