Open Enrollment for healthcare plans kicks off on November 1st. Lauren Gajdek is here to talk about a great alternative way to meet your healthcare costs.. Lauren Gajdek is Vice President of Communications and Media at Christian Healthcare Ministries where they specialize in medical cost sharing, a different way to meet your healthcare needs. CHM has shared more than $8 billion dollars in members' medical costs since its inception. OPEN ENROLLMENT Like last year, consumers will have an extra 30 days to review and choose health plans. The 2023 Open Enrollment Period begins November 1, and ends January 15, 2023, in most states. Coverage begins January 1. Open enrollment only happens once a year. Once it ends, you're locked into your current programs until the next year. So it's important to double-check the open enrollment dates with your employer or the program you want to join so you don't miss your window of opportunity. There are a few exceptions to the time limits. You can sign up for financial programs outside of the open enrollment period if you have a major life change like marriage, divorce or becoming a parent. You're also eligible for special enrollment if you're a new hire. Learn more here. But if you miss your employer's open enrollment deadline, you could lose coverage for you and your loved ones. Missing this deadline also means that you could be unable to make changes or enroll in benefits until the next open enrollment period. NO ENROLLMENT SEASON WITH CHM However, with Christian Healthcare Ministries, there is no enrollment window. It's always open season. Absolutely nothing you decide to go with Christian Healthcare Ministries, because we have open season all the time. On today's program, Gajdek explains: - What the Christian cost-sharing model is and how it differs from healthcare insurance. - The pricing and tiers of cost-sharing with CHM - The signup process and what paperwork is involved in submitting medical bills for cost sharing. - The biblical basis for Christian cost sharing. - How Christian Healthcare Ministries works to support members spiritually as well as financially. To learn more about Chrisian Healthcare Ministries, visit CHMinistries.org or call 800-791-6225. On today's program, Rob also answers listener questions: ● How do you evaluate the effectiveness of your financial adviser? ● Does closing unused credit accounts affect your credit score? S3. E.3 The Medicare Open Enrollment Period starts on October 15, 2021, and ends on December 7, 2021. In this episode, I discuss the importance of Medicare Open Enrollment Period for senior citizens across the country.WWW.TAWSIFANAM.NET
It's that time again! Every year, during the open enrollment period from October 15th through December 7th, we recommend that all seniors review their Medicare coverage and see what new options might be available to them. It's also extremely important that new retirees who are signing up for Medicare for the first time get a handle on the ABCDs of Medicare, as well as the things that Medicare does and doesn't cover. On today's show, we prepare you for Medicare Season 2021 and discuss some key aspects of your health care coverage that you'll want to investigate before open enrollment ends.
In this episode, we will be talking about everything you need to know about Medicare Annual Election Period. This time can be really overwhelming as it's a time full of constant Medicare TV commercials, phone calls, and a pile of mails. We will help you destress this time of year! We will cut through to all of the do's and don'ts of the Medicare annual election period so that you can keep the right coverages for yourself.Focus on The Annual Election Period[2:16]The main reason why there is so much focus on this time of the year is that most consumers on Medicare can have their plans changed. It's a time of chaos. Definition of this Annual Election Period[04:40]The reason you're going to see extra confusion this time of the year is that it drives phone calls. Carriers and agents are trying to get you to call them to inquire about changing your plan. Is that by design? [05:58] The Annual Election Period is a period from October 15 until December 7 each year when you can join, switch or drop a plan. Your coverage will begin on January 1 of the following year. It is also referred to as the Open Enrollment Period. However, that is a term that we are trying to avoid as it can be confused with the Medigap Open Enrollment. Basically, the AEP (annual election period) is the time of the year where you can make changes to your plan. Planning your options and moves during this period[9:46]You can look at all of the 2022 and upcoming plans your options starting October 1. The time to make the actual enrollment or change is from October 15 to December 7. Don't panic, as you have a large window to file your plan. [10:46]After looking through new plans, you can determine if you'd like to make a change. There are many options. We often do not recommend trying to change your Medigap plan during this time period as it is an extra busy time of year for carriers and agents. Unfortunately, you'll get the brunt of that.[11:38] Be attentive when people say that you can just "change your plan anytime through open enrollment" because remember, it's not a truly "open" enrollment time period. I you try to switch from Medicare Advantage to a Medigap plan during this period, you still have to pass underwriting or health questions in most states to qualify for that plan. That is why we differentiate this with the Medigap open enrollment window.Things you should do during this time each year[14:35]Make a list of what you do ad don't like about your current coverage. These are essential things to consider as we are talking about changing plans with you. [16:07]Remember that you can change other plans during the entire year - those plans include: cancer policies, hospital indemnity plans and dental, and vision plans, as you can do this the rest of the year. [18:04]If you know that your plan will work for you in the following year? You don't have to do anything! [21:05] Don't listen to all the hype and the noise that is surrounding you. It can be overwhelming but you have to learn to tune it out. Finding Help[25:48]Talk to somebody that knows Medicare. Talk to your broker or even SHIP counselors, anyone that has a true knowledge of Medicare. If not, you'll get caught up in the sales cycle.[29:00]Your homework: (1) Make sure you review your documents, (2) make sure you understand how your plan is changing,(3) Get in touch with an expert that you can trust to help guide you through this, and most importantly, (4) don't get caught up in the hype with everything you see on TV. There are many different enrollment periods for Medicare. Today, we will discuss one of the most important ones: the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, which comes around every fall.My name is Lindsay Engle, and I'm the Medicare Expert for Elite Insurance Partners and MedicareFAQ.com.The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period is commonly referred to as the Annual Election Period or the Medicare Open Enrollment Period. It occurs annually, in the fall, between October 15th and December 7th.This enrollment period is for beneficiaries who are already enrolled in Medicare to make changes to their coverage. This means that you must either be enrolled in Part A and Part B of Original Medicare, a Medicare Advantage Plan, or a stand-alone prescription drug plan under Part D.If you're enrolled in Medicare Advantage, you can change from one carrier to another carrier or switch back to Original Medicare. When you switch back to Original Medicare, you can then choose to enroll in Medigap and Part D plans if you wish to do so.If you're currently enrolled in Part D, you can choose to switch from one plan to another or drop your coverage altogether. You can also enroll in a Part D plan at this time if you only have Original Medicare without any prescription drug coverage.A first key point to remember is if you're not already enrolled in Medicare, this is not the enrollment period for you. If you're looking to enroll in Part A and Part B for the first time and you're outside your Initial Enrollment Period, you'll have to wait until the General Enrollment Period, which runs annually between January 1st and March 31st.Another key point to remember is that if you're choosing to enroll in a Medicare Supplement Plan at this time, you'll still have to answer health questions and go through medical underwriting. The only way around this is if your Medicare Open Enrollment Period is also happening during the Annual Enrollment Period or, due to a specific circumstance, you qualify for a Special Election Period. The Annual Enrollment Period does not give you guaranteed issue rights. You can enroll in a Medigap plan at any time of the year. The only thing to remember is if you are outside of your Open Enrollment Period, which is the first six months after your Part B effective date, you will have to answer health questions. Any coverage changes you make during the Annual Enrollment Period will become effective January 1st of the following year. Each September, your Medicare Advantage carrier or Part D carrier will send you a plan annual notice of change that will give you a brief summary of all your benefits.Your notice of change will explain any plan coverage changes that will become effective the following year. You will want to pay attention to your premium. If you feel that the premium is increasing more than expected, it may be time to shop around for new plans. If you have Medicare Advantage, you should also pay attention to the doctor network. Make sure your doctor is still within your plan's network.Another important thing to check is your Part D drug formulary to ensure your current prescriptions will still be covered.Thank you so much for watching! Medicare Supplement premiums are unique for each beneficiary. Yours will definitely not be the same as your neighbor down the street. In today's video, we're going to explain the factors that determine your monthly premium.Hi, I'm Lindsay Engle, and I'm the Medicare expert for Elite Insurance Partners and MedicareFAQ.com. If you're like many Medicare beneficiaries, your first go-to to find Medigap quotes is online. You found a website, filled out a form, answered a few questions...only to find out that you actually can't get quotes without speaking to an agent. You end up frustrated, wondering, "WHY CAN'T I SEE MY QUOTES ONLINE!?!?" Several factors impact your Medigap rates, and these are questions that you can't answer online. This is why you have to speak to a Medicare agent. Now, we're going to go over which factors will determine your Medigap premium. Before we jump into these different factors, it's important to understand that all Medigap plans are standardized by the government. What this means is that each letter plan has a set of benefits that will stay the exact same regardless of the carrier with which you choose to enroll. The only difference will be the premium you pay.(1) Your location: What you might pay in one state for the same benefits could be completely different than what you might pay in a different state.(2) Your gender: Your gender could be a determining factor depending on the state where you live. Because females are mostly overall healthier than males, in some states they will find that they pay around $10-30 less in monthly premiums.(3) Your age: If you enroll when you're first eligible at 65, you're going to pay less in monthly premiums than you would if you enroll at 75. Additionally, depending on the state where you live, if you're eligible for Medicare due to collecting Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) for 24 months, you can pay up to 3-4 times more in monthly premiums than those who age in at 65.(4) Tobacco use: For those who smoke, chew, or use vaping products, you can expect to pay up to 10% more in monthly premiums. This is because those who use tobacco tend to have more medical conditions.(5) Household discounts: Some carriers offer discounts to those who live in the same household, as long as they enroll in a plan with the same carrier.(6) How you pay: Some carriers will charge you more if you choose to pay quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. Also, because it's more cost-effective for the carrier to process your payment electronically versus by check or credit card, some carriers will discount your premiums if you choose to pay electronically.(7) The letter plan in which you choose to enroll: As expected when you want more benefits, you will pay a higher monthly premium.(8) Rating method the carrier uses to determine your supplement policy premiums: There are three rating methods a carrier can use to set the rates for their Medigap policies: community, issue age, and attained age. Attained age rated is the most common model used by carriers today.(9) Rate increase history of the carrier: You want to make sure they have at least an A or better financial rating and have been in the market for at least five years.(10) The time you enroll: The best time to enroll is during your Open Enrollment Period.(11) Some carriers offer a 12-month rate lock: Even if your effective date isn't for a few months, you want to enroll now to prevent any rate increases between now and your effective date.Hopefully, this video helped you understand why it's impossible for us to give you accurate quotes without speaking to you over the phone to collect more information! Our agents will be able to compare any plan with any carrier that is available in your area to get you the most accurate quote based on your personal information.MedicareFAQ: https://w

Hi, I'm Lindsay Engle and I'm the Medicare expert for Elite Insurance Partners and MedicareFAQ.com. Thank you so much for joining us on our Medicare Community YouTube channel. Today's topic is the Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period.Medigap plans were created to help supplement your Original Medicare benefits. They cover out-of-pocket costs such as the 20% coinsurance that falls under Part B. The most important thing to remember about your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period is that for the majority of beneficiaries it only comes around once in a lifetime. Many beneficiaries may confuse the Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period with the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period that comes around every October. When in fact the Annual Enrollment Period is not for Medigap plans at all. The Annual Enrollment Period is for Medicare beneficiaries who are enrolled in Medicare Advantage or Part D plans. That is the time period that they can make changes. Now you can still enroll in a Medigap plan during the Annual Enrollment Period, you'll just have to go through medical underwriting and answer health questions.Your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period is a six-month window that begins with your Part B effective date. During this time frame, you can enroll in any Medigap plan with any carrier without having to answer any health questions. You're guaranteed to be accepted into the plan. Medigap plans are also guaranteed renewable. A carrier cannot cancel your policy due to health conditions. The only time your Medigap policy can be canceled is if you don't pay your premiums. Now for some people, your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period may happen more than once in your lifetime. There are two ways that your Medicare supplement open enrollment period can come around twice in your lifetime. One way is if you retire and go back to work. Then later on when you retire again, and you enroll in Part B, your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period six-month window will begin again. The other way your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period may come around twice in your lifetime is if you're under 65 and collecting Social Security Disability Income. After collecting Social Security Disability Income benefits after 24 months you'll be eligible for Medicare. At that time, if you choose to enroll in Medicare Part B, your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period six-month window will begin. Now many beneficiaries and many states may not be able to afford the premiums for Medigap plans for those who are under 65. Or you may live in a state that doesn't offer plans to people on disability under 65. So in this case when you do turn 65, you'll have another Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period. At that time you can enroll in a Medigap plan with the premiums being the same as everyone else versus being more expensive because you're under 65. Now some states have their own guaranteed-issue rules such as California, Connecticut, Washington, Maine, New York, Oregon, and Missouri. For example, California has a birthday rule. This allows you to enroll in any Medicare Supplement Plan without having to answer health questions around the month of your birthday each year. Connecticut has a year-round Open Enrollment period. This means that residence in Connecticut can change or enroll in a Medigap plan without answering health questions at any time of the year.If you missed your once-in-a-lifetime Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period and don't live in one of the states that have their own guaranteed-issue rules. You can still enroll in a Medigap plan at any time of the year.
Hi everyone Lindsay here with Elite Insurance Partners and MedicareFAQ.com. Thank you so much for joining us today. If it's your first time welcome. Today, we're going to try and clarify some confusion around a specific enrollment period for Medicare, that's the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period.Previously you may have heard of this enrollment period referred to as the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period. Before, this enrollment period ran annually between January 1st and February 14th, and you could do exactly what it was said, which was disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan. However, the legislation decided to discontinue this back in 2010.Unfortunately, this was causing a lot of issues for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. Normally if they had enrolled during the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs between October and December. Then the New Year came in January, and they went to go use their new benefits and ended up finding out that there was a lot of unexpected out-of-pocket costs that they weren't prepared for, or maybe they went to go see their doctor, and the doctor was not in the plans Network. So, unfortunately, since there was no more Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period, they were stuck in that plan until the next annual enrollment period. Well, as of 2019, legislation decided to bring it back and rename it. It is now called the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, and it runs annually between January 1st and March 31st. Now, this enrollment period is only for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. So if you are not currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you cannot make any changes at this time. Coverage will start the first day of the following month after you enroll. For example, if you enrolled February 10th, your coverage would start March 1st. Now an important difference between the Annual Enrollment Period and this Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period is that during this one, you can only make one change. During the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, you can make multiple changes, and the last change is what would take effect. With this one, you can only make one change, so choose wisely. Now, let's go over what you can and cannot do. You can switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another. You can switch from one Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan to another. And you can disenroll from your current Medicare Advantage plan and go back to Original Medicare. And at that point, if you choose to do so, you can enroll in a stand-alone Prescription Drug plan and a Medigap plan. What you cannot do. You cannot enroll in Part A and Part B, and you cannot switch from one Part D plan to another Part D plan at this time. It is only for making changes to your Medicare Advantage plan.We know how confusing all of these enrollment periods can be. Today, I hope we helped clarify any confusion around the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them below. If you haven't already joined our Medicare Facebook Community, make sure to do so. We post new videos and content regularly to keep you updated informed on all your Medicare benefits. You can also post questions to the community that other beneficiaries can help answer, and you can also read about their experiences. Until next time. Bye!

Medicare Supplement Insurance Underwriting Medicare Supplement plans require medical underwriting in order to switch plans. So whether you are shopping for another Medicare Supplement plan with a lower premium or wanting to switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare Supplement, you will have to answer medical questions after your first initial Open Enrollment period. Everyone has the opportunity to get a Medicare Supplement when they first turn 65, or when they first start Medicare Part B, without having to medically qualify. This is called your Open Enrollment Period and it begins 6 months before and ends 6 months after your 65th birthday or your Medicare Part B start date. After that time frame, everyone is subject to medical underwriting. The Medicare Supplement medical underwriting process only consists of around 20 medical questions, there is no physical or lab work. There are around 30 different carriers that offer Medicare Supplements and they all have different guidelines. In general, most carriers want at least a two-year stable bill of health. Senior Healthcare Direct is licensed and appointed with over 30 of the top Medicare Insurance carriers for this reason. Every year we perform annual policy reviews for our clients and having access to these carriers allows us to shop every possible option for our clients. As for any potential clients, if they are not able to medically qualify with one carrier, we will research all of our licensed carriers for a carrier that will approve them. Moreover, the plan can NEVER charge more if you have health issues during OEP. When you apply for Medicare during this period your acceptance into a Medigap Plan is guaranteed. According to Medicare.gov the best time to buy a Medigap policy is during your open enrollment period. When is Medigap insurance underwriting required? If the first time you enroll in Medicare Supplement Plan is AFTER your initial Open Enrollment Period, Medigap underwriting is required. In other words, you did NOT apply for Medicare during your initial OEP. When you switch to a different Medigap Plan after your initial Open Enrollment Period, then underwriting is required. Likewise, when you switch from Medicare Advantage Plan to Medigap Plan after your initial OEP, then underwriting is required. Anytime you apply for Medicare Supplement Plan (Medigap) outside your initial Open Enrollment Period (OEP), you will have to answer underwriting questions. Medigap policies are sold by private insurance companies. As a result, some underwriting questions insurance carriers ask will be different. However, many insurance companies ask similar questions. The following are the most common underwriting questions..... Hey Medicare Nation! www.TheMedicareNation.com It's 2020! Love the sound of that! Right now...... the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period is in full swing. If you are on a "Medicare Advantage Plan," you have the opportunity to make a ONE TIME change, between January 1st through March 31st. You can change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another Medicare Advantage Plan. You can "disenroll" from the Medicare Advantage Plan you're on and go back onto "Original Medicare." With Original Medicare, you can add a stand-alone-prescription drug plan and ..... you can enroll into a Medicare Supplement Plan (aka Medi-gap) to help defray the costs of Original Medicare. Here are options you can do during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: Change from a Medicare Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare. Switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another Medicare Advantage Plan. Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan that doesn't offer drug coverage to a Medicare Advantage Plan that offers drug coverage. Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan that offers drug coverage to a Medicare Advantage Plan that doesn't offer drug coverage. Join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. Switch from one Medicare drug plan to another Medicare drug plan. Drop your Medicare prescription drug coverage completely I'm adding the EXACT language from the Medicare Managed Manual, regarding the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. 30.5 – Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) 42 CFR 422.62(a)(3) (Rev. 1, Issued: July 31, 2018; Effective/Implementation: 01-01-2019) During the MA OEP, MA plan enrollees may enroll in another MA plan or disenroll from their MA plan and return to Original Medicare. Individuals may make only one election during the MA OEP. This chart outlines who can use the MA OEP and when: Who can use the MA OEP: MA OEP occurs: Individuals enrolled in MA plans as of January 1 – March 31 New Medicare beneficiaries who are enrolled in an MA plan during their ICEP The month of entitlement to Part A and Part B – the last day of the 3rd month of entitlement Individuals may add or drop Part D coverage during the MA OEP. Individuals enrolled in either MAPD or MA-only plans can switch to: • MA-PD • MA-only • Original Medicare (with or without a stand-alone Part D plan) The effective date for an MA OEP election is the first of the month following receipt of the enrollment request. NOTE: The MA OEP does not provide an opportunity for an individual enrolled in Original Medicare to join a MA plan. It also does not allow for Part D changes for individuals enrolled in Original Medicare, including those enrolled in stand-alone Part D plans. The MA OEP is not available for those enrolled in Medicare Savings Accounts or other Medicare health plan types (such as cost plans or PACE). You may also go onto Medicare.gov to view information on the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. If you decide to make a change during the MA OEP, you will be "locked-in" to the new plan, until the next enrollment period.... which is....the Annual Enrollment Period, from October 15th through December 7th. You may also make a change to your plan if you have a "special circumstance." Show Notes: Many people I talk to are utterly overwhelmed during their open enrollment period. Should I change this benefit? Should I opt-in for this or that? In my opinion, this is a great time to maximize your paycheck! There is so much money left on the table that can be placed back into your budget to reach your financial goals, but there are some steps to take. I want to give you 5 tips for open enrollment period that you can use in order to fully maximize all that is available to you. 1. Know when it starts and ends. How can you be empowered if you don't know when the annual enrollment period begins or ends? Usually, you will get some type of internal notification from your company. I highly recommended marking your calendar and not waiting until the last minute. 2. Review your benefits from previous period or employer. You'll want to review what benefits you had last--either last year or if you're changing jobs from your previous employer. I suggest printing these out before you get started on the upcoming year to give you a side-by-side comparison. It's very possible to use your last paystub to look at this also. Most employer websites have a separate portal that may allow for this comparison so you won't have to print it out. 3. Elect the free stuff. This may be a no-brainer but elect the free stuff. Typically this may be life insurance for you as an employee, short-term, long-term disability and maybe some other things. If it's free and you don't use it, you're leaving money on the table more than likely. 4. Consider the HDHP vs. PPO. One of the most expensive benefits you are provided is health insurance. Just look at your W2 from last year in box 12DD. I've seen a lot of plans that have employer-sponsored and/or subsidized medical coverage depending on plan type. That's to say you may get free health care if you choose a high deductible health plan (or HDHP). This is beneficial in a lot of ways and I'd cover how these plans work in this video. This could potentially save you a lot of money in current and future taxes, as well as, allow you to get some extra cash from your employer. 3. Max out your 401(k). If possible try to contribute the IRS limit into your 401(k) plan thereby maximizing any type of employer match that you are eligible for. I see many people only contribute the default as most plans will elect 1-2% if you don't specify a %. Thanks for listening, reading and watching. Are you a current or aspiring financial professional? You do not have to medically qualify for Original Medicare. Everyone who is 65 or older is entitled to Medicare Parts A and B without having to medically qualify. If you are under 65 and have been on disability for two years or more, you are also eligible for Medicare. In order to purchase a Medicare Advantage Plan, there is only one medical question that you must answer to qualify which is “Do you have End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)?” If you do have ESRD do not be discouraged; there are special plans that Medicare offers to seniors who have ESRD, however you will not have access to the open market Medicare Advantage Plans available to others. As far as a Medicare Supplement (Medigap), everyone has the opportunity to get a Medicare Supplement when they first turn 65, or when they first start Medicare Part B, without having to medically qualify. This is called your Open Enrollment Period and it begins 6 months before and ends 6 months after your 65th birthday or your Medicare Part B start date. After that timeframe, everyone is subject to medical underwriting. The Medicare Supplement medical underwriting only consists of around 20 medical questions, there is no physical or lab work. There are around 30 different carriers that offer Medicare Supplements and they all have different guidelines. In general, most carriers want at least a two-year stable bill of health.
