Jacqui Robertson is a wonderful example of how every testimony is a chance to share what God has done for you in order to encourage others! Having been saved since she was a child, Jacqui was a little worried she didn't have a dynamic testimony. I think a lot of us who were raised in the church and saved at an early age can relate! But to hear how God has woven Himself in her life is a beautiful example of how we all can see His hand if we step back for a moment and look!Want to Connect with Jacqui?Jacqui.Robertson@bhhsgeorgia.comWant to Connect with CHM? https://choosinghimministries.org/

CHM is an X-linked disorder caused by mutations in the gene CHM, which produces a protein that plays a critical role in the cell's ability to transport proteins and organelles within and outside of the cell. When this gene is dysfunctional, the cell can no longer support this protein escort ability, resulting in premature cell death, primarily in the eyes. Typically, this condition is characterized by progressive vision loss. These symptoms may begin at any age, but tend to onset between childhood and adulthood. Females carriers of CHM have been proven to experience a spectrum of symptoms, ranging from mild to severe retinal degeneration. Our guest today is Michelle. Frustrated with Traditional Healthcare? with Lauren Gajdek

You might be surprised to learn that most Americans are satisfied with their healthcare insurance. But the rest are more than a little dissatisfied.A vocal minority of health insurance policyholders are frustrated with their insurers for any number of legitimate reasons. If you're in this group, you don't want to miss today's show. Lauren Gajdek joins us with details about an efficient, affordable alternative to health insurance.Lauren Gajdek is the Vice President of Communications and Media at Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM), an underwriter of Faith & Finance. Why Are People Frustrated with Traditional Health Insurance?Healthcare is a significant concern for many families, especially as costs continue to rise. Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM) offers an alternative rooted in faith and community support for those who feel frustrated with traditional health insurance. Some of the most common frustrations they see are:Complicated Policies—Many insurance plans have intricate rules and coverage limitations, making it difficult to understand what is actually covered. Lack of Pricing Transparency—Patients often have no idea what they are being charged for healthcare services, which leads to higher costs that insurance companies pass along to policyholders. High Deductibles—It's not uncommon to see deductibles of $5,000, $10,000, or even $15,000, leaving families struggling to afford necessary care.At CHM, transparency is a priority. Members clearly understand what will be shared, making healthcare costs more predictable and manageable.A recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey found that most Americans rate their health insurance as "good" or even "excellent." However, people generally seem to be pretty happy with their insurance—if they haven't had to use it. Many individuals benefit from government subsidies or employer-sponsored plans, but satisfaction drops significantly when it comes time to submit claims and navigate the system. The more people engage with their insurance provider, the more dissatisfied they tend to become. How Does Medical Cost Sharing Work?CHM stands apart as an alternative to health insurance. Since their founding in 1981, they have shared nearly $12 billion in medical bills for its members. People are looking for something that aligns with their faith and upholds their values, and that's where CHM steps in.With over 40 years of experience, CHM provides a trusted solution for Christians who want a healthcare option that reflects their beliefs.Unlike traditional insurance, CHM is a healthcare cost-sharing ministry. Members are considered self-pay, meaning they pay medical providers directly, but CHM shares 100% of qualifying medical bills based on established guidelines.Key features of CHM include:Flexible Program Options—Monthly contributions range from $98 to $255 per person, allowing families to tailor their plans to their needs and budget. No Network Restrictions—Members can choose their own providers and are not limited to specific hospitals or doctors. Community of Support—Members help bear one another's burdens, fulfilling a biblical model of care and stewardship. While the concept may initially seem unfamiliar, CHM's long track record of faithfulness and financial stewardship reassures members that their medical needs will be met.A Faith-Based Healthcare AlternativeFor many believers, CHM has proven to be a perfect fit, providing financial relief and peace of mind. To learn more about how medical cost-sharing could benefit your family, visit chministries.org/faith.If you've felt burdened by the complexities of traditional insurance, CHM may be the blessing you've been looking for.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm trying to find out if there is anything available, like a lower-interest loan, to help me pay off my credit card debt. I have about $45,000 in debt, and I'm okay with paying it down, but I'd like to find a lower interest rate than the 14% I'm currently paying. My husband and I are both 77 years old, and I'm totally blind and he has several health problems. We'd like to set up an irrevocable trust to avoid probate when one of us passes away, but we don't have a lot of money. I'm not sure how to go about getting an elder law attorney to help us with this.I'm wondering if I should consider purchasing a long-term care insurance policy. I'm 77 years old, and I know that the majority of Americans over 65 will need some form of long-term care, which can be very expensive. I'm trying to figure out if getting a long-term care policy makes sense for my situation.I'm retiring soon and have a lump sum of money from my company's retirement plan. I don't want to take the lump sum and have 20% withheld in taxes. Instead, I'd like to roll the money over into a CD or similar safe investment where it can grow, but my company doesn't allow that. I'm not comfortable investing in stocks, so I'm looking for a way to keep the money safe and growing.Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly MagazineChristian Healthcare Ministries (CHM)Christian Credit CounselorsBankrate.com Wisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on Money (Pre-Order)Look At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000.

Hey, open enrollment ends in just a few days—have you decided on a new health insurance plan yet? If not, you might not have to. What if there was another way—a biblical solution for meeting your healthcare costs? Let's explore medical cost sharing, a faith-based alternative to traditional health insurance that could save you hundreds of dollars a month. What Is Medical Cost Sharing?Medical cost sharing is a cooperative approach to healthcare expenses rooted in biblical principles. It's an alternative to traditional health insurance in which members share each other's medical costs. The concept is inspired by Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”One of the pioneers in this space is Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM), the oldest organization in the medical cost-sharing space. Since 1981, CHM has enabled members to share nearly $11 billion in medical expenses. It's a nonprofit organization that operates on biblical stewardship, focusing on members' needs rather than profits. How Does Medical Cost Sharing Work?Instead of paying insurance premiums, members contribute a monthly share amount based on the plan they choose. This amount is typically much lower than traditional insurance premiums. Here's why:Self-Pay Model: CHM members are considered “self-pay” by healthcare providers, which often reduces costs significantly.Reimbursement System: Members submit bills for covered medical services and are reimbursed from the shared pool of funds. For example, under CHM's Bronze plan, the highest annual personal responsibility cost is $6,000 per person—a potentially lower-cost option compared to the high deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums of many insurance plans in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace.Key Advantages of Medical Cost-Sharing1. Cost SavingsCHM's nonprofit model focuses on its members rather than shareholders, allowing more resources to be allocated toward medical needs. This often makes it a more affordable option compared to traditional health insurance.2. Freedom of ChoiceUnlike traditional insurance, which often restricts members to a network of providers, medical cost-sharing has no networks. Members can visit any doctor or facility of their choice, and if the service is covered, they'll be reimbursed.3. PortabilityMedical cost sharing is portable, meaning your membership stays with you regardless of job changes or life transitions. Whether you're starting your own business or switching careers, you don't lose coverage.4. Community and PrayerBy joining CHM, you become part of a community of believers who support each other through prayer and encouragement. CHM's customer support team often prays with members, offering compassion and spiritual support during difficult times.5. Lower Overhead and Greater ControlCHM's lower administrative costs translate into lower costs for members. Additionally, with no insurance company acting as a middleman, members work directly with medical providers to set up treatment plans and payment arrangements. Why Consider Medical Cost Sharing?Health insurance companies can be a blessing, especially for catastrophic illnesses, but they're also large bureaucracies heavily regulated by the government. Medical cost sharing avoids many of these challenges, offering a simpler, more faith-focused approach to healthcare. If you've already signed up for health insurance for 2025 but are now considering medical cost sharing, you may still be able to cancel your insurance without penalty. To explore how medical cost sharing can be a biblical solution to healthcare costs, visit CHMinistries.org. You'll find detailed information about plans, benefits, and how to join this faith-based community. Don't miss this opportunity to align your healthcare decisions with your values. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:My husband and I are purchasing term life insurance, and the question has come up—do we make each other the primary beneficiary, with our children as the contingent beneficiaries? I have been to my bank and called my credit union, but neither one deals in savings bonds. I've got a grandson who's turning one, and I thought that might be a good birthday present for him in the future. But I just don't know where to go or what to do to purchase savings bonds for him.We recently sold our house for a good profit, and we're wondering how to tithe on it. Do we tithe on the full amount we received or only on what goes above the initial price and interest we paid?I have a 401(k), and I'd like to know how I can invest according to my values and the available options. The only options seem to be big companies that I'd rather not invest in. Do you have any suggestions?I was thinking of buying these two single-family homes. They're both $150,000 each. I have a property that's worth about $800,000. What are the implications of selling the multi-level property and buying the two single-family homes? Is there something I need to know besides the standard closing costs? The multi-level property is mortgage-free, with nothing owed on it.I bought a car years ago. I still owe about $5,500 on it, with a minimum monthly payment of $185. However, the car is starting to nickel and dime me on the cost of maintenance. The bank owns the title. We're talking about Christmas tradition ideas, both with and without kids, and specifically ways to bring God more into the season. I've got seven tradition ideas to share, and I'll talk about each one based on things like how old your kids are or whether you have kids at all. For context, I have two kids, and my oldest is almost three and a half, so that's the age range I have in mind for some of these. But many of them work really well for older kids or even just for you and your whole family. This episode is filled with inspiration for making the holiday season more intentional, joyful, and Christ-centered. CHM members often seek three key elements:Freedom to Choose Providers: Members value the ability to select their healthcare providers, especially those they trust, without being restricted by a network.Faith-Aligned Solutions: They want a healthcare solution that aligns with their Christian beliefs, which can be hard to find in conventional insurance plans.Lower Costs: Cost is a major factor, and many people are looking for more affordable ways to manage their medical expenses.CHM meets these needs by offering a healthcare solution that allows members to choose their providers and emphasizes a biblical approach to sharing medical expenses.Flexibility in Choosing ProvidersOne significant difference with CHM is that it does not restrict members to a specific network of providers. This freedom is especially valuable in emergencies or when traveling, allowing members to access care without worrying about whether a provider is “in-network.” While they can assist members in finding cost-effective providers for planned procedures, the final choice remains with the member, offering a level of autonomy that traditional insurance often lacks. How Does Medical Cost Sharing Work?Medical cost sharing through CHM allows members greater control over their healthcare decisions. Unlike traditional insurance, no pre-approvals are required. If a medical expense falls within their guidelines, it becomes eligible for sharing among the membership. This means that decisions about care are made by the doctor and the patient without the bureaucracy typically associated with insurance. Why Is CHM More Affordable?CHM is often more cost effective than traditional health insurance due to its unique structure:Self-Pay Discounts: Members can request self-pay discounts, significantly reducing medical costs. Because it operates as a nonprofit ministry rather than an insurance company, these discounts are a vital part of its strategy to lower costs.Strong Provider Relationships: With over 40 years of experience, CHM has built relationships with healthcare providers, allowing them to negotiate better rates for services behind the scenes. The Importance of a Faith-Based ApproachCHM's foundation as a Christian ministry is central to its identity. The organization's mission is rooted in biblical principles, emphasizing the importance of sharing each other's medical burdens. This focus on community and mutual support makes them unique in healthcare solutions. It is a reminder that ministry comes first.CHM offers a flexible, faith-based alternative for managing healthcare costs, making it appealing to many believers. She's also a member of Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM),  a health cost sharing ministry. 13:20 - How CHM works - you become a member, pay a monthly fee. When a healthcare episode arises, you access CHM to get your healthcare bills paid, or shared. 15:14 - Sloane details the self-pay patient journey, how self-pay doesn't trickle through to all areas of the healthcare industry, and how to educate each sector about self-pay.22:50 - How to ask for the self-pay rate as a patient.25:00 - Where Sloane negotiated for care from one provider that was 75% less than what another provider quoted. 26:35 - How physicians are fairly  knowledgeable about self pay, but those in their business offices are not. They are trained to work with insurance. She packs her "patience and grace" to ask them to do something that is unusual. 29:25 - Tom pivots the conversation to how Sloan copes with a diagnosis of a terminal illness (at age 23). She doesn't let it define her, and looks at her condition as a chronic illness. 30:23 - How Sloane and Tom agree that it is the dying person's responsibility to prepare the living  for their own death. 34:14 - Why doctors ignore DNRs (hint: it has to do with litigation). 35:10 - Tom laments that modern Stoics don't talk suicide the way the original Stoics did - it is the last vestige of our wills. 37:50 - Sloane shares her grandmother's advice about friendship: you really only need 6 friends in life; 3 on one side of the casket, and 3 on the other. 38:10 - The extreme rarity of having one really close friend. 40:00 - Shifting to business, how she found herself in Nashville's health tech scene. Pre-pandemic, it was crowded, healthy and vibrant. Backed by Nashville and nationwide private equity and venture capital firms, and also supported by local institutions like the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Nashville Healthcare Council, local family funds, and others, founders were getting a lot of support. 41:13 - When founder-led companies become responsible for creating shareholder value. The trajectory to create shareholder value is a big change, and she learned how sales and marketing played such a significant role in creating that value. 42:35 - Creation of her secret sauce: the strategy/methodology/execution of marketing to build to exit, and understanding how to make quick pivots as needed. 44:02 - What healthcare doesn't talk about post-pandemic: the rise in chronic disease, chronic care. Fortunately, many tech companies have come forward to begin to address this issue, but the exits are not as speedy as they once were.45:29 - The role of a strategic story in an exit, and how your fly paper is still whether or not you created shareholder value. But healthcare needs to re-think intellectual property.47:00 - The other way to re-frame and look at shareholder value: the customer relationships you create. If you can own a swim lane in the market, and really own it well, that has enormous value. 48:16 - How mergers often destroy value by devaluing the brand and the culture. 51:24 - Who shaped her marketing philosophy, Marty Neumeier, who was Steve Jobs' brand mentor. She believes, as Marty maintains, that a brand isn't what you say it is, it's what your customer says it is. 54:17 - How she loves founder-led companies, and how she gets so much more out of it than what she put into it. Her emotional paycheck gets cashed every time she sees someone get a check they never thought they would get.

What options and rates do Christian Health Ministries offer?CHM is not health insurance, but medical cost-sharing, and nonprofit, enabling us to keep member costs down. CHM shares 100% of eligible medical bills, over $10 billion since its founding in 1981. Here are some of the plan costs to start (for individuals):Bronze, $92 per unit, per month Silver, $138 per unit, per monthGold, $240 per unit, per monthSenior Share, $115 per unit, per monthHow is being a member of Christian Healthcare Ministries more flexible than most health insurance plans?CHM members are not limited to a provider network. They can go to any doctor or hospital if the treatment is eligible according to CHM guidelines. This gives members more flexibility and control over their healthcare than typical health insurance plans.Where does CHM's ministry concept originate?CHM draws its concepts from the New Testament, where the Book of Acts says that all the believers pooled their resources together and shared what they had. So, CHM practically does that nowadays with medical costs. The spiritual component of what they do is vital to CHM, as they also pray for each other and send cards and emails of encouragement. It is an excellent example of the body of Christ serving one another.Where can people get more information?chministries.org/faithfiOn Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I've been through over a decade of financial abuse, so I'm starting off having to reestablish with a low income. Today's session is a spotlight on one of my favorite modalities, Chinese herbs. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history of treating infertility and has a remarkable curative effect in the treatment of gynecological and obstetrical diseases. Much of the time, conventional medical treatment with surgery, drugs, in vitro-fertilisation (IVF) or other assisted reproductive technologies (ART) does not always result in a viable pregnancy and live birth. It turns out that an integrative approach will double your odds of success! So, if you're at the end of your rope on your path to baby, consider integrating herbs in your fertility regime. Don't believe me? Let's look at the research - In a meta-analysis study, eight randomized controlled trials reported a doubling in the pregnancy rate in subfertile women using Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) within a 4-month treatment period compared with Western medical drug therapy alone. Another meta-analysis study suggested a 2 fold higher probability of achieving a pregnancy with CHM therapy than with WM therapy alone in women with infertility. Both of these studies included women with PCOS, endometriosis, anovulation, fallopian tube blockage, or unexplained infertility. There are dozens of Chinese formulas used to address reproductive and hormonal health. So, as always, I aim to give you the tools you need to better your chances of conception. The DOD Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan (CHMR-AP) represents a significant step forward for global efforts to reduce civilian harm. The plan recognizes that reducing civilian harm is not just a moral imperative but a strategic priority. It lays out concrete steps that the Department of Defense can take to mitigate civilian harm caused by its operations.   Larry Lewis, Marla Keenan, and Sabrina Verleysen join John Stimpson in this episode. They discuss the CHMR-AP and the decades of work on civilian harm mitigation that made it possible.  Biographies Dr. Larry Lewis is a Principal Research Scientist in CNA's Operations Division. Dr. Lewis spearheaded the first data-based approach to protecting civilians in conflict by analyzing military operational data in conjunction with open-source data. He has worked extensively with militaries—including the U.S., NATO allies, and key U.S. partners—to help reduce civilian harm in their operations and strengthen their institutional capacity to mitigate such harm.  Marla Keenan is a Principal Advisor to CNA and an expert in human security, the protection of civilians, civilian harm mitigation and response, and civil-military relations in armed conflict. She has conducted high-level advocacy with international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, African Union, and NATO. She formerly led all international programs for the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), working directly with civilians caught in conflict and militaries to support improved protection outcomes. Sabrina Verleysen is a Senior Specialist in Strategic Development and brings expertise in government relations and Indonesian civilian-military relations. She supports the CHM portfolio as an analyst, builds partnerships, and convenes interagency stakeholders to improve information sharing and collaboration on CHMR.  Further Reading DOD: Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan CNA: Civilian Harm Mitigation

Lauren Gajdek is Vice President of Communications and Media at Christian Healthcare Ministries, an underwriter of this program. WHY IS CHRISTIAN HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES A LIFESAVER FOR THOSE WHO MISSED THE OPEN ENROLLMENT DEADLINE?Lauren explains that Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM) operates differently from traditional insurance companies, allowing people to join at any time of the year without waiting for an open enrollment season. This flexibility makes CHM accessible for those who have missed enrollment deadlines.CHM allows joining anytime. It operates on a biblical concept of sharing resources among members.CHM has shared over $10 billion in members' medical bills, demonstrating its extensive support network. HOW DOES CHM DIFFER FROM TRADITIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?CHM is a medical cost-sharing organization, not an insurance company. It's based on a biblical concept where believers pool resources to ensure no one is left in need. Lauren emphasizes that CHM's approach has enabled the sharing of substantial amounts of medical bills, providing a reliable alternative to traditional health insurance.CHM is a medical cost-sharing organization inspired by biblical principles. It emphasizes mutual support among members, replicating the early church's resource sharing.CHM's long history and significant bill-sharing reflect its effectiveness and reliability. WHAT ARE THE COST BENEFITS OF CHM COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE?Lauren highlights the affordability of CHM, with membership costs ranging from $92 to $267 per month for an individual, regardless of health history, age, or weight. She points out that CHM's 'personal responsibility' costs, similar to deductibles, are significantly lower than high insurance deductibles, making it an affordable option.CHM offers affordable membership rates, unrelated to personal health factors. It provides a financially viable alternative to high-deductible health insurance plans. The 'personal responsibility' cost in CHM is capped annually, enhancing its affordability. WHAT IS THE SPIRITUAL COMPONENT OF CHM?The spiritual aspect of CHM, as Lauren explains, is based on Galatians 6:2, focusing on bearing each other's burdens. This spiritual support is manifested through prayer, encouragement, and being a part of a larger Christian community, adding a significant dimension to the financial assistance CHM provides.CHM emphasizes spiritual support alongside financial assistance.Members engage in prayer and encouragement, strengthening communal bonds. The ministry operates under the principle of bearing each other's burdens as a reflection of Christ's teachings. For more information or to explore joining CHM, visitChristian Health Care Ministries or call 800-791-6225. ON TODAY'S PROGRAM, ROB ANSWERS LISTENER QUESTIONS:I have a $79,000 annuity with an insurance company and am considering rolling it over into my IRA for better returns, but I'm unsure if it's a good idea.Is debt consolidation worth it, and can you recommend any companies for it?As a military veteran with a head injury and recent widower, I'm unsure about filing a special tax return; what should I do?I had hail damage to my roof and a roofing company wants to replace it, but I can't afford the $2,000 deductible.
