Jake & Pete's Christmas Special, 20min., UK Directed by Luke Marley When the spirit of Christmas seems to have left a small town in Gloucestershire, Jake and Pete must find a way to restore it in time for Christmas. https://www.instagram.com/jakeandpeteshortfilm/ Get to know the filmmaker: What motivated you to make this film? So, I did my first short using this art style Henry VIII and it was brutal and I swore to never do stop motion again, then eventually I thought about doing something that really felt character driven, and it had been a few years since Taylor and I have worked together on a project. So I asked if he wanted to work on something and we came up with a Christmas film. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video? So, we were thrilled. I think before hand we hadn't really seen any thoughts on the film or anything. So we're not sure if people liked the plot or the joke landed. So I think it was great to know that it all worked out in the end. David Silverman explores the history of The Simpsons from before it existed until now. He talks about animating the hard stuff and making it look easy as well as his love of Burning Man & the tuba.Bio: After graduating from UCLA in 1983, David Silverman worked as a freelance illustrator and animator until, in 1987, he landed a job animating on The Tracey Ullman Show — where The Simpsons began. Animating on all 48 shorts led to David directing the first shows of The Simpsons. Starting with the Christmas Special in December 1989, and then the premiere episode the following month, David soon became Supervising Animation Director and a producer on The Simpsons. All told, he has directed 24 episodes and has won 4 Emmys along the way. When no one was looking, David snuck away from The Simpsons to work at DreamWorks (The Road to El Dorado – co-director), Pixar (Monsters, Inc. – co-director), and Blue Sky (Ice Age, Robots – writing and boarding). But, he came back to the show full-time at the end of 2003 and directed The Simpsons Movie. In 2012, David directed and co-wrote the short film The Longest Daycare about Maggie Simpson, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. And since the Disney acquisition of The Simpsons (via the purchase of Fox), David has directed 10 Simpsons shorts especially for Disney+, as well as several promotional pieces.
Hey, Who fans and welcome to Episode 418.Hey, Who fans! It's been a minute since we last put an episode out and this one is a Garry-solo, news-focused episode with an update on the latest Doctor Who news and how the weekly episodes here at The Big Blue Box will work moving forward.Firstly, the main episodes that you've enjoyed for over a decade on a (nearly) weekly basis will now change to a seasonal format. Yep, we are no longer going to try and put episodes out every week. The two main reasons for this are: we've reviewed nearly everything apart from a couple of animated stories, and when there's no new Who going out and not much news, Doctor Who is a bit light on stuff these days. Secondly, Adam and I, when our schedules allow, don't want to force putting content out as you guys will notice it and drift off. I've seen it happen on other podcasts and it's the last thing I want for The Big Blue Box.So in a nutshell - we aren't going away, we're not going on hiatus and we're not locking the doors to the TARDIS. We're sensibly putting the show on a seasonal format so when we do put content out, we're enthusiastic and have stuff to talk about. You'll next hear from us in April for our first proper season with our reviews for Season 2, then for the spin-off and our next season etc. Lastly, the monthly Round Table episodes will continue as normal, as the writing team have such interesting and entertaining views on all things Doctor Who.Who fans, thank you, it's been amazing and a privilege for Adam and me to waffle to you all (again, nearly) every week for the last 10+ years and we hope you stick with us as we transition into a different format. Also as a reminder - we set up the Cosmic Echoes podcast network this year, and although the amount of content for this podcast will be scaled back, we're bringing you more content overall! Our first new podcast - Federation Strike: A Journey Through Blake's 7 - has gone down a treat so check that out if you're a Blake's 7 fan or you've heard of the show but not dived in.Phew, with that being said, the rest of the episode is rounding up the latest Who news including the start date for Season 2, a casting announcement for Season 2, The Sun newspaper progressing their "the show is being axed" story with the Christmas Special now under threat, a ton of money raised at auction for Children in Need, Chris Eccleston and Billie Piper back together for more 9 and Rose stories at Big Finish, and you can still grab the Season 7 blu ray collection from a couple of online retailers.Links to the stuff we mentioned:Season 7 blu ray collection at Amazon and Zavvi.9th Doctor and Rose adventures from Big FinishThis is The Big Blue Box PodcastJoin us each week for a new episode every Friday from your hosts Garry and Adam. Thank you to everyone who has joined us for 2024. Micheal and I offer this last Friday episode of the year as our parting gift. As usual, I have no idea where these are going and we covered everything from flat earth to whether or not cheese is the best snack to eat while contemplating your place in the known universe. Enjoy, see you all next year!!
"The people you work with are people you were just thrown together with. You don't know them. It wasn't your choice. Yet you spend more time with them than you do friends or family. But probably all you've got in common is that you walk on the same bit of carpet for eight hours a day. And so, obviously, when someone comes in who you have a connection with…Yeah. Dawn was a ray of sunshine in my life and it meant a lot. But if I'm really being honest, I never thought it would have a happy ending. I don't know what a happy ending is. Life isn't about endings, is it? It's a series of moments” This week we conclude our UK Office rewatch with a deep dive on the Christmas Special! We check in on our favourite characters, with David on the road, Gareth in the boss's chair, and Dawn and Lee in Florida. We follow their storylines all the way to the crescendo at the Christmas Party to see what happens with Tim and Dawn, and to see if David can finally get a laugh or find some luck in love. And along the way we cover all of the celebrity appearances, Secret Santas, and Austin Powers costumes that go into the episode. Then in the Conference Room we do a quick post-Christmas Ordinary Things segment to check in on Edwin's time in Portland and Alex and Sean's babies first Christmases. And then to close the show we do a quick round of BBC Office Trivia sent in by a friend of the pod in the UK! Support our show and become a member of Scott's Tots on Patreon! Mur' Christmas !! Alright, family, let's tap in for a second. See, this wealth journey ain't just about dollars and cents—it's spiritual. It's about breaking the chains of poverty that bound our ancestors and stepping into the abundance we're destined for. GOD didn't put us here to struggle; He put us here to thrive. But to do that, we gotta renew our minds, learn the rules of the game, and move with purpose. Each stock, each investment—it's a seed planted for a harvest that blesses not just us, but generations to come. Walk in faith, family, and let's claim what's ours. Today we bring you a Christmas special of sorts. The 12 money lessons as a play on the 12 days of Christmas. These are some of the most foundational takeaways we've realized during our financial journey. We truly believe if you master these lessons, you'll have a clear path to hitting your money goals. 12 Money Lessons We Cover: Retirement is a number, not an age 4% rule or cash flow method Your first investment should be in yourself $10K toward self-betterment will likely go a lot further than it will in the S&P or RE at the beginning of your journey Compound interest is insane Investing $500 a month from 25 - 45 and then stopping will give you ~$1M in retirement at 65. Investing $1,000 a month from 45-65 will give you only $500,000. Start Early. The 80/20 of spending Focusing on the “big 3” (housing, transportation, food) will do way more for you than penny-pinching in other categories There's no “right way” to reach financial independence If someone tells you the X is the only way, they're lying or trying to sell you something. Can be done via index funds, RE, corporate job, digital products, etc. Action > Information You will learn way more by actually doing the thing, than reading books, listening to podcasts, or watching YouTube videos about it. Now is not a bad time to start Almost anytime you look back 4 years at investing you'll wish you would have bought even more which is just a sure sign that if you feel like you need to wait to invest, you're probably wrong Do the experience You'll probably never regret the money spent on a memorable activity with friends and family It's not about the money Yes, you'll need to focus on money for a while and build up a nest egg but it the end the money is just a tool to give you the freedom to focus on the things you really care about, it's not about lavishness or material obsession. Saving up a ton of money doesn't make you a greedy person Don't make a plan, make a contract Investing will have turbulence and that's when people are most likely to make bad decisions. This happens when we let our emotions get involved. Instead of making a general plan, make some hard contractual-type promises with yourself so that when times get tough, you don't even consider making rash decisions You'll adjust to anything This can be an advantage or disadvantage. The advantage is that you can live a lifestyle very different to others and find that you can still reach a very high level of happiness. The disadvantage comes when we have lifestyle inflation and our spending keeps increasing but the novelty wears off and we don't feel any different but our spending has increased dramatically You can't know where to go, if you don't know where you are Getting an accurate state of your finances and spending is critical. You don't have to fixate on creating a budget right away but definitely track your spending with extreme accuracy for a few months so you have real data to work with It's not about how much you make, it's about how much you keep (there are people making $200k living paycheck to paycheck, and people making $50k saving 50%) Be informed I try not to tell people what they can and can't spend money on, just do the math to understand what the decision you're making now means for your future self. Get comfortable with some basic spreadsheet math and project out things, compare options, just take a pause and do some calculations We hope you enjoyed this special episode and these lessons for your financial journey.
