In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty is joined by environmental changemaker Andy Keller, the founder and CEO of ChicoBag. Together, they explore the powerful connection between our personal well-being and the health of the planet. Andy shares the transformative story of how a trip to the landfill opened his eyes to plastic pollution and ignited a mission to reduce single-use waste. From designing the first ChicoBag to taking on the plastic industry in court, Andy reveals the grit, courage, and vision behind his movement. Discover how environmental awareness improves mental health, why nature is our best therapy, and how small actions can build lasting legacy. This is a must-listen for anyone passionate about sustainability, wellness, and making a real impact.   About the Guest – Andy Keller:Andy Keller is an environmental advocate, entrepreneur, and the visionary behind ChicoBag, a company committed to eliminating single-use waste. His mission began after witnessing the impact of plastic firsthand and has since evolved into a global movement for sustainable living. Known as the “Bag Monster,” Andy has faced lawsuits, educated lawmakers, and traveled to the Pacific Garbage Patch to raise awareness.   Key Takeaways: Single-use plastic doesn't disappear—it pollutes air, land, and oceans, harming both the planet and human health. Nature restores mental clarity and emotional peace; spending time outdoors is essential for wellness. Courage in advocacy matters—Andy's legal battle against the plastic industry shows that even individuals can spark systemic change. Reusable bags, sustainable choices, and conscious consumption are small actions that lead to a better legacy. The health of the environment is directly tied to our emotional and physical well-being.   Connect with Andy Keller:Website: https://www.chicobag.comInstagram: @chicobag   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life?DM on PodMatch: DM Me HereSubscribe to the Newsletter: https://healthymindbyavik.substack.comJoin Our Community: https://nas.io/healthymind   Stay Tuned and Follow Us!YouTube: Healthy Mind Healthy LifeInstagram: @podhealth.clubThreads: @podhealth.clubFacebook: Podcast Healthy MindLinkedIn: Avik Chakraborty #podmatch #healthymind #healthymindbyavik #wellness #sustainability #mentalhealth #ecohealth

Kathryn interviews Author Michael Grossman MD.All couples long for an intense, passionate love that lasts, and all couples will encounter conflict—the challenge is knowing how to navigate this journey while growing a deep, enduring partnership. Having been married for over 50 years, Michael Grossman MD and his wife Barbara Grossman PhD are now sharing the science of “falling in love forever”. They admit they ran into headwinds as a young couple and faced painful and destructive conflicts but they had two children, which motivated them to find a solution. The doctors share their wisdom to clarify and enlighten readers with strategies that balance both security and mystery in romance. Michael Grossman MD has been a board-certified family physician and has been a fellow of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine since 2009. Kathryn also interviews Author Brian Belefant. When he was a young student in Italy, Alex flirted with becoming an artist. After returning to the USA, he built a career as a commercial photographer, shooting houses, cars, breakfast cereals, and other objects for sale. He found a business partner, Tony, who got him funding for a studio. As Alex reflects, his work wasn't glamorous—he never got to shoot gorgeous swimsuit models or go on location to Paris. Yet he remembered the lessons his mentor, Janusz, had imparted about lighting and observation, which made his work not only better but also satisfying. After ten years, Tony sold the studio and handed him a big fat check. So, now he is a millionaire with a condo and a beautiful live-in girlfriend, Grace, who always seems to have a headache. He is frustrated and uninspired—until he stumbles across the existence of an artificial floating marvel (or atrocity) called the Pacific Garbage Patch. Why not charter a yacht to go out and explore it? Brian Belefant started his career as an advertising copywriter, writing hundreds of commercials for major brands, from Nissan to Pepsi. He is an award-winning fine art photographer.

Eradicating the swirling gyre of plastic trash in the Pacific Ocean has been the longtime goal of Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit group. On Monday, in Victoria, British Colombia, the group took a big step forward, hauling 120,000 pounds of plastic out of the ocean using retrofitted fishing trawlers and specialized nets. And, Bernardo Arévalo upset Guatemala's political establishment by clenching his country's presidency this past weekend. But he faces a tough task ahead. Also, in Ecuador, a peaceful snap presidential election took place over the weekend amid an unprecedented security crisis that has left three politicians assassinated in less than a month. Plus, an artist's fake green card project inspires conversations about US citizenship.

EPISODE 72 SYNOPSIS    The Gratuitous Ghost of Gilbert Gottfried Returns    Folks, it's a “smoke a cigarette afterwards” cool-as-a-cucumber kind of episode.    Co-host Arik opens the show with something nice to say about his current state of residence, South Carolina: “Well, at least it's not the Pacific Garbage Patch.”     Then again, he could be stuck in Burnt Korn, Alabama, with our special guest, Carla. Things in Alabama are so bad, all the color has been sucked out. (Check it out on YouTube!)    Usually sound engineer Seaman Drains—I mean, Pauly from Bali—gets the hate sloppy seconds, but he kicks off the show with a tale of his recent trip to Florida to visit his ill father. The family decided to have a movie night—EXCEPT no one considered the fact that ailing pops might not be in the mood, with all his children and grandchildren gathered about, to watch a graphic sex scene.     “Haven't we reached the point, where if you need to watch two or more people getting it on, just go surf some porn? It's time to eliminate ‘squeal like a pig' ass spanking from Hollywood. I mean, this scene was in a period piece!”    Not that we're prudes, but what's the NC-17 rating for, if not for a period piece film that shows an anal rape scene over and over from every character's point of view?    Meanwhile, Arik discusses the difference between bestiaries and bestiality, while Pauly spends a half hour downloading a photo Carla wants to share. Boy oh boy, this is one photo worth the wait:    “DO NOT CLICK BUTTONS WITH GENITALIA.”    Tune in to find out more! Once in a while, we reach into the THN mailbag and discover a letter of such exquisite abhorrence that we set our delicate egos aside and grant a listener center stage as Epistolary First Chair of Hate. Such is the case with poor Steven of Urbandale, Illinois, who at the local grocery store recently battled Handicapped Hilda plus an army of social workers and police officers for the honor of his self-soiled elderly mother. (Shh. Don't tell anyone that Steven keeps his ma locked in the back 40 shed and only feeds her Meow Mix.) Co-host Arik follows this G.O.A.T. Hate Letter—only to be upstaged by sound engineer Pauly from Bali's carafe o' beer. Arik wades through the suds, then tells a St. Patrick's Day rideshare horror tale of drunken zombie college students, who, just the night prior, attacked his poor Kia and left him for dead, whilst Officer Doolittle and his assistant Brenda whistled Dixie and gave each other pedis. THN PSA: Please don't mob-kill your Uber driver, even if he's not wearing green. Also, thanks for nothing, St. Patrick. You just had to return to the island of your tormenters to show them Jesus. Just so you know, so many centuries later, all it resulted in was an SUV mirror getting whacked by a four-sheets-to-the-wind freshman, and the near drawing and quartering of a perfectly innocent cabbie. So, Paddy, thank you for bringing the world one step closer to “The Purge.” Pauly from Bali next directs our attention toward proper disgust: with the world on the verge of a major extinction moment, why the holy bleep are restaurants and cafes providing takeaway materials to in-house guests?! Also, we don't need 8 million plastic straws for our beverages! Are you trying to make the Pacific Garbage Patch bigger than the Great Red Spot on Jupiter?! My AP Biology Thoughts  Unit 8 Ecology EPISODE TITLE: Pacific Garbage Patch and Its Impacts on WildlifeWelcome to My AP Biology Thoughts podcast, my name is Angelina and my name is Emily and we are your hosts for the Unit 8 Ecology podcast on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and Its Impacts on Wildlife. Today we will be discussing the Garbage Patch's harmful effects on aquatic life and how it relates to the AP Biology Curriculum.  https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/great-pacific-garbage-patch/ (https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/great-pacific-garbage-patch/)  Segment 1: Overview of Pacific Garbage Patch and Its Impacts on WildlifeBackground info:  The patch is a vortex of plastic waste and debris which is very calm and stable but surrounded by four currents that sweep debris into the center  Two distinct collections of debris, the Western and Eastern Garbage Patches  Pacific: Garbage is spun and linked together by the North Pacific Subtropical Convergence Zone, where warm water ( South ) meets cool water ( Arctic ) Much of the debris is not biodegradable and has taken a significant toll on the aquatic wildlife  Most of the debris is plastic, which is not biodegradable but rather breaks down into microplastic particles Segment 2: Evidence that supports how the Patch Harms Wildlifehttps://theoceancleanup.com/great-pacific-garbage-patch/ (https://theoceancleanup.com/great-pacific-garbage-patch/)  According to National Geographic, oceanographers and ecologists discovered that about 70% of marine debris sinks to the ocean floor, so the patch may also be an underwater heap of trash  Marine debris is known to be harmful to wildlife  Ex: Loggerhead sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish  Ex: Albatrosses mistake plastic pellets for eggs and feed them to their chicks, which then die of starvation or ruptured organs  Ex: Seals and other animals get entangled in abandoned nets and other waste  hear about turtles a lot because of many companies movements to stop using straws, but we dont always hear about the other species being affected so it is definitely important to learn about these organisms as well BIG ONE: Marine debris can disturb marine food webs As microplastics collect near the ocean's surface, they block sunlight which prevents plankton and algae to grow  Many organisms depend on these producers for food Since they are at the foundational levels of the food web, when they are negatively impacted, the whole web is as well  Segment 3: Connection to the CourseEnergy flow: Affects all wildlife (trophic structure) Kills species, leaving less energy in ecosystem If organisms consume garbage, the organisms feeding on them will be indirectly feeding on garbage Bioaccumulation Impacts humans as well We should all do little things to help the environment Thank you for listening to this episode of My AP Biology Thoughts. For more student-ran podcasts and digital content, make sure that you visit http://www.hvspn.com (www.hvspn.com).  Music Credits:"Ice Flow" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Subscribe to our Podcasthttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/my-ap-biology-thoughts/id1549942575 (Apple Podcasts) https://open.spotify.com/show/1nH8Ft9c9f6dmo75V9imCk (Spotify) https://podcasts.google.com/search/my%20ap%20biology%20thoughts (Google Podcasts )   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC07e_nBHLyc_nyvjF6z-DVg (YouTube)   Connect with us on Social MediaTwitterhttps://twitter.com/thehvspn ( @thehvspn)

There are many fundraisers that occur throughout the year for the oceans and they are run by various organizations. Most of them have good intentions to help protect the Oceans. Some raise a lot of money and some not so much; however, the organizations to which you donate matter.  There is a large fundraiser that is going on right now to help raise $30 million dollars that promises to take out 30 million lbs of trash from the Ocean. Two organizations will split the money into two equal parts. One of those organizations is called the Ocean Conservancy and they have a great plastic pollution program; however, the other organization is the controversial Ocean Clean Up.  If you don't recall, the Ocean Clean Up is an organization that promised to clean up the Pacific Garbage Patch within 5 years of its operation. It not only failed, but it ignored many scientific criticisms and never made their environmental assessment public, but promised that everything was fine. None of their prototypes have worked even though millions of dollars were invested.  Now the Ocean Clean Up stands to gain a lot of money through a crowdsourcing campaign called Teamseas. The campaign is not talking about the controversy surrounding the Ocean Clean Up Project thereby legitimizing their work in the Ocean.  Dr. Virginia Schutte was asked to help raise funds for the campaign, but refused to participate due to the Ocean Clean Up being involved.  Virginia joins me on the show today to discuss why and what you could do to help protect the Ocean.  Make a donation to the Ocean Conservancy: https://donate.oceanconservancy.org/page/92465/donate/1 Connect with Dr. Virginia Schutte: website: https://www.virginiaschutte.com/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@vgwschutte? Seaspiracy hit Netflix on March 24th, and I don't think even the vegan community were prepared for the huge impact it was about to have. The device is not working the way it should. It is not moving fast enough to pick up the trash in the water. As you can imagine, the quality of the call isn’t ‘what you’d call crystal clear – but then, neither is the ocean...

If I can't exhale at the speed of sound, how does my voice travel the speed of sound? How do the Eastern Oregon hot springs work? And who knew Alyssa Milano's dad was such a successful Hollywood sound editor? These questions and more will be answered in this meandering and interesting episode. Also discussed: "Embiggen" added to the dictionary, oil companies buy Utah monuments for drilling, Amazon patents drones to recognize flailing and screaming gestures, the Texas-sized (?) Pacific Garbage Patch, earliest North American footprint found, China face IDs and tickets jaywalkers, mind-reading technology, new human organ discovered, and turtles develop karate-chopping flippers. Calories. Flamethrowers. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. 3-D printed cars. All the important subjects of the day, discussed extensively to keep you in the know! But of course that’s not the true purpose of today’s program. The heavy hitting came from Pastor Chris Dodson of New Hope Bible Church in Cedar Hills UT, who discussed Isaiah 51:6 - the fleeting things of this world, God's amazing salvation, and righteousness that He gives us when we trust in Him. Awesome!

Plastic. It’s everywhere. Everywhere we want and need it, and everywhere we don’t. From the Pacific Garbage Patch to the nano-plastics that now inhabit our own bodies, the wonder product of the middle 20th century has grown to be a plague on humanity. The downside? It’s also really handy useful stuff, and if we shut off all plastic production tomorrow, we’d be in a pretty difficult spot. So how we solve the problem? We’ve been coming it at it through demand management, trying to promote less use, re-use, recycling and the like. As we all know of course trying to plug the pipe at the end never truly works. Moving to a supply management where rather than using less plastic we aim to use better plastic would seem to be a better route. Plastic that is both more advanced than what we have now, and that was truly biodegradable and non-garbage-patch-building sounds like part of the solution. Darrel Fry of Rossland, BC and his company Advanced Bio Carbon 3D is trying to do just that. In fact, it’s their second go at it. 10 years ago, the market wasn’t ready. In this episode we dive in and find out how and why he’s looking at going bigger by going smaller, and helping solve man’s most pressing challenges in the process. Create a better plastic by working with nature, turn it into a better product for the market, and create better environmental and business solutions in the process? You Can Do That Here.
