This is a story of a woman who didn't realize she had neurological conditions that were perhaps altering her abilities until she was in her forties. You ask how is that possible? Well, Sadie thought that everyone was just like her. She assumed everyone else's brain worked just like hers. Her biggest cheerleader was her grandmother, who since Sadie was a little girl, has catalogued everything her granddaughter has written or drawn. Adele says of her grandmother "she is perfect and just brimming with fantastic folksy wisdom.""Do I Know You, A Faceblind Reporter's Journey into the Science of Sight, Memory, and Imagination," is Sadie's recently released book and there's a wealth of information for anyone who thinks perhaps they are alone in the discovery of being neurodivergent. Scientists believe that these types of conditions may actually give you an edge as an artist. One of the many gifts of having a poor memory, Sadie mentioned, is that she lives in the moment. Her grandmother "felt comforted by her self expression and it helped her make meaning out of the chaos of life," according to my guest.Sadie has a condition call SDAM, which stands for-SEVERELY DEFFICIENT AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL MEMORY.Sadie's videos on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sadie+Dingfelder 4 RARE NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS. Nuestro insolito universo La prosopagnosia
Listening to a podcast on unusual topics, Gary was intrigued by a neurological condition known as prosopagnosia or face-blindness. Together, he and Chris talk about this rare condition and ask if there is a biblical application. Genesis 32:25-30 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. [26] And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. [27] And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. [28] And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. [29] And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. [30] And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.Send questions and comments to info@faithinfive.org. we'll be discussing the concept of the "Relationship Escalator" that Tom Kelly has recently learned. This term refers to a set of social scripts or customs that dictate how people should behave and feel in certain contexts or situations. While these customs may benefit many people, they don't always apply to everyone. Being "off the relationship escalator" means living a life where these steps may not apply to you. We'll delve into this fascinating concept and explore how it challenges traditional notions of relationships and societal expectations. On a different note, have you ever heard of prosopagnosia? It's a neurological disorder also known as face blindness, where the individual is unable to recognize faces. We'll discuss whether Tom may have this condition or if his behavior is due to feeling overwhelmed and self-absorbed. So, sit back, relax and join us as we explore these intriguing topics and challenge our perceptions of social norms and relationships.

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2022.12.13.519604v1?rss=1 Authors: Faghel-Soubeyrand, S., Richoz, A.-R., Waeber, D., Woodhams, J., Caldara, R., Gosselin, F., Charest, I. Abstract: We aimed to identify neural computations underlying the loss of face identification ability by modelling the brain activity of brain-lesioned patient PS, a well-documented case of acquired pure prosopagnosia. We collected a large dataset of high-density electrophysiological (EEG) recordings from PS and neurotypicals while they completed a one-back task on a stream of face, object, animal and scene images. We found reduced neural decoding of face identity around the N170 window in PS, and conjointly revealed normal non-face identification in this patient. We used Representational Similarity Analysis (RSA) to correlate human EEG representations with those of deep neural network (DNN) models of vision and caption-level semantics, offering a window into the neural computations at play in patient PS's deficits. Brain representational dissimilarity matrices (RDMs) were computed for each participant at 4 ms steps using cross-validated classifiers. PS's brain RDMs showed significant reliability across sessions, indicating meaningful measurements of brain representations with RSA even in the presence of significant lesions. Crucially, computational analyses were able to reveal PS's representational deficits in high-level visual and semantic brain computations. Such multi-modal data-driven characterisations of prosopagnosia highlight the complex nature of processes contributing to face recognition in the human brain.

Dr Karl Kruszelnicki joins Luke on the Night Shift this morning and they talk about about Prosopagnosia a cognitive disorder of face perception, commonly known as facial blindness... Dr Karl himself suffers from this, he once asked a colleague that he had seen and worked with for 5 days a week for months, have we meet before. ? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Imagine not being able to recognize the people you see every single day; your coworkers, your friends, your loved ones. “Prosopagnosia,” or “face blindness,” as it's commonly known, is a disorder that impacts about 1 in 50 people, and some may not even know about it. They may go their whole lives struggling to recognize the important people in their lives, often relying on non-facial information like hair color or gait to distinguish people. Neuropsychologist Ashok Jansari joins Dr. Sanjay Gupta to talk about how people with prosopagnosia see the world, the mechanism behind this condition, and what can we learn from those with these deficits about face recognition. Close your eyes and visualize a horse. Most people can picture the outline of the body, the color of the horse and the unique features of the animal. But some people simply don't see any image at all. This lack of a mind's eye is known as aphantasia. To help explain exactly what aphantasia is, and how it can affect behavior, we talk with Professor Adam Zeman who actually helped identify and name the neurological condition. Adam has a medical degree and a PhD in philosophy from Oxford University. He's been a lecturer and professor of cognitive and behavioral neurology and has published extensively on visual imagery and forms of amnesia occurring in epilepsy. Adam has also published an introduction to neurology for the general audiences called, A Portrait of the Brain. But the reason we are talking to Adam on this episode is about his research on our “minds eye”. He discusses how a lack of visual imagery (aphantasia) or overly vivid imagery (hyperphantasia) can be identified and what effects it has on our behavior. We often ask guests on the show about whether their work is influenced by “me-search”; something of particular interest to them personally. Well, this episode is a little bit of me-search for our own Kurt Nelson who himself has aphantasia. Join both Kurt and Tim as they both find out more about the recent research into the condition and how we should all be aware of how it affects people.
