Kemi Badenoch is the new leader of the opposition, and we have an early indication of who will make up her shadow cabinet. She has already chosen her chief whip in loyalist Rebecca Harris; Nigel Huddleston and Dominic Johnson will be party chairman; Laura Trott will be shadow education secretary; Neil O'Brien will be shadow minister for education – crucially, a Jenrick backer. Is she going for party unity? Who will take the top jobs in team Badenoch? Also on the podcast, it's anything-but-the-budget-week for Labour, who are trying to move the agenda along from last week's fiscal event with a raft of announcements. Today, the prime minister unveiled his plan to ‘smash the gangs' and announced that university tuition fees would rise. But can they justify the increase to students?  Oscar Edmondson speaks to Katy Balls and Isabel Hardman. Produced by Oscar Edmondson.

This week on The Whiskey Trip Podcast, Big Chief takes a ride to Northern, Virginia to visit Rebecca Harris from Catoctin Creek Distilling Company. Becky takes the big man through the history of Catoctin Creek and their Virginia Rye Whiskies. After years of being a chemical engineer she, along with her husband, started this craft distillery in Purcellville, Virginia. Their passion is rye whiskey done their way. All her products begin with the finest local and organic grains to create the cleanest spirit possible. At the heart of the distillery is a pair of pot stills, where Becky insists on cooking the distillate for a full nine hours, more than twice as long as most other distilleries, to create the unique and award-winning flavors in her distillate. They start the show with the Roundstone Rye Distiller's Edition. Only one in every ten barrels gets selected to be in the Roundstone Rye "92 Proof" whisky. This 100% rye mash-bill is something special. They then move on to the cask proof version of our ever-popular Roundstone Rye.  Released at approximately 58% ABV (it varies depending on the individual barrels), this is seriously strong whisky!  Delicious, dark, complex and ridiculously smooth for the proof To start the second half Becky and Big Chief sip on Rabble Rouser Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey. "Where Roundstone Rye is sort of restrained and elegant," says Scott Harris, founder of the distillery, "Rabble Rouser is more unruly and vivacious.". To finish the show Becky treats the big man Catoctin Creek Hot Honey Rye. Just as you're savoring the whisky, the peppers come in with a surprising and delightful bit of heat.  Smooth and sweet, with a ZING!  This is a fun one! This ride on The Whiskey Trip shows Big Chief isn't afraid to make a correction from previous shows. Cheers!

We use the term 'trauma informed' in education ALOT - but what does it actually look, sound and feel like on the ground in the classroom? Trauma informed practices centre more around a state of 'being, rather than doing' and it comes back to our own nervous system regulation, and our ability to "See the child NOT the behaviour." It means that we use responsive practices, rather than punitive. We also fundamentally know that our role is to offer behaviour support, not sanctions when kids are distressed or overwhelmed. You can buy Rebecca's book "Safe to Learn" here: https://ambapress.com.au/products/safe-to-learn You can learn more about the Berry Street Educational Model here: https://www.berrystreet.org.au/learning-and-resources/berry-street-education-model/training-courseWork with Chrissie Davies - Child Behaviour Specialist here: www.chaostocalmconsultancy.com

Her research and writing focus on early Jewish literature, particularly the Dead Sea Scrolls and the eschatological beliefs of the group that preserved them. Dr. Harris grew up in San Jose, California, attended a small Bible college in the Santa Cruz mountains, and graduated with a degree in church leadership. After serving in pastoral leadership (children’s ministry) for five years, she decided to further her education by pursuing a graduate degree in biblical studies. Two master’s degrees and one Ph.D. later, she now teaches classes on biblical interpretation, New Testament literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the ancient Near Eastern to Hellenistic contexts of biblical literature. In addition to her work on early Jewish literature, Dr. Harris is currently working on a collaborative project designed to produce Bible curriculum (for children and families) informed by biblical studies and sociological perspectives. In late 2019, early 2020, Australia received international attention due to devastating bushfire conditions and events that unfolded. This traumatic event was then compounded with the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Australia on 25 January 2020. Since then, Australia's mental health sector has adapted to the conditions, whilst displaying the best qualities of humanity - selflessness, compassion, stamina, and courage. We transitioned and explored opportunities overnight – ensuring that help was still available. However, the compounded impacts of COVID-19 and the 2019/20 bushfires on infants, children and youth cohorts was inevitable. This week's guest Rebecca Harris coordinates student wellbeing at Carlton Primary School, in inner-city Melbourne. She directs the school's trauma informed practice, with a focus on promoting the wellbeing of students, as well as families, and staff. She has a postgraduate qualification in Developmental Trauma, has produced a practice manual detailing the early days of the work at Carlton Primary, and is currently writing a book entitled ‘Safe to Learn: Embedding Whole School Wellbeing Practices to Create Trauma Responsive Education'. Stay tuned as I speak with Rebecca about the lessons learnt from 2020, including the impacts on children, the education system, and carers alike, as well as the opportunities available moving forward for the child and adolescent mental health sector.

Aside from the day to day conveniences, the present risks are people are not able to access Covid related information, such as places of interest, and where this project started, Education. Why are so many outdoorsmen and women coming down with long-lasting cases of Lyme disease? Lyme has been around for decades and it's very common, especially in the Northeast. It turns out that there are conflicting opinions within the medical community over what it takes to detect and treat Lyme disease. Plus, there's a serious knowledge gap in areas where Lyme disease is relatively new. This week, tech and fitness journalist Tom Gerencer explains why this common disease is still such a mystery, and such a nightmare, for so many people. Tom's been researching and reporting on Lyme disease for years, in no small part because of his own chronic case of Lyme. Read his full report here. Produced and edited by Senior Deputy Editor Natalie Krebs. Hosted by Editor-in-Chief Alex Robinson. Reporting by Tom Gerencer, an ASJA content writer and editor for science, tech, business, and the outdoors. He's a regular contributor to HP Tech Takes and Boys' Life, with articles in The Boston Globe Magazine, Fast Company, Outdoor Life, and Costco Connection, and editing clients like Groupon, Poker.org, and Adorama. After graduation, he took on several sales roles to deepen his skills before joining a development studio called InfiniOne. There David really learnt the in-and-outs of product management and operating as a lean startup. David is now working on his own company, Purple, which he helped launch by working with Rebecca Harris. Originally a long content format website dedicated to political news and information, Rebecca and David noticed that people - especially their peers - didn’t seem to be connecting with the content they were creating. So they re-imagined the format and discovered that SMS and Messaging apps were a more popular way to share and engage with their audience. Purple was then accepted into the Techstars New York accelerator and continues to grow its reach as a platform. David joins us to share his story, how he started his career in tech, some of the most valuable startup lessons he learnt while building products for other people, what it was like going through Techstars, why Messaging is such an engaging medium, and much more!

Rebecca Harris is the Director, Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University and a longtime successful entrepreneur and business advocate. Under Rebecca's leadership at the center she has designed and introduced a number of programs including the Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series, a program called MyBoard that provides women whose businesses are in the growth stage an experienced mentoring board of professionals who stand ready to assist in critical growth matters. Then there are programs for Business Startups, an entrepreneurial training program for early-stage women entrepreneurs; and MyConsulting Corner for those looking to partner with a field of students and women business owners to complete business research projects. We dive into how these programs are helping women and we cover the state of women in business but we also learn about her 20 year business backstory, her million dollar successes and her failures and why being in business is the greatest journey you’ll ever experience.   Rebecca Harris up next on Hustle and Heart TV with Darieth Chisolm.
