After years of abuse, addiction, a desperate search for praise and approval, and living in unbearable pain and isolation, Rob Decker reached a breaking point that drove him to take drastic measures. After a failed suicide attempt and a friend not giving up on him, Rob woke up alive with a new lease on life. The state of mental health issues is reaching alarming new levels, and the "silent crisis" continues to grip the minds of men and women. The problem is far too big to continue to ignore."Our world runs rampant with despair, isolation, and pain. I want to use my experiences to offer hope, healing, and restoration for others who feel lost and, in their own minds, believe that there is no hope," says Rob. At 29, Rob Decker was tired of trying. A childhood filled with rejection and fear left him rootless. Young adult years spent searching for meaning in fitness, sports, women, drinking and drugs left him empty. “My life was a mess. I wrote myself off as a lost cause – an unemployed alcoholic and drug abuser.” But just when he thought he had hit rock bottom, there was more. He had just been falsely accused of raping and trying to kill a young woman. Before the police could come inside, Rob chose to end it all there. Running through the third story window, he counted on the pavement to end what felt like a wasted life. But God. Rob Decker is a published author and public speaker whose primary mission is to share his story of how his failed suicide attempt led to a relationship with God. He shares the transformative power of Christ who took decades of sadness, anger and confusion and created a testimony of forgiveness, understanding and love. Rob is also the founder of Kingdom F.I.T., which is a personal training ministry that blends faith and fitness to make clients strong from the inside out! Today, I share my conversation with personal fitness coach Rob Decker of https://robdeckerspeaks.com/ (robdeckerspeaks.com) and you can reach him at https://www.instagram.com/decker_rob/ (decker_rob) on Instagram. Today's an interesting one guys.  We start off talking about how Rob committed suicide… well, he attempted suicide. That's right, Rob jumped head first out of a 3 story building with the intent to kill himself. As he lay in the hospital, having broken his back and his arms, the police came in to inform him he'd been accused of rape. We move to talk about how he was able to learn how to walk again, and to get the charges dropped. We also talk about how Rob's faith helped him along the way. He attributes the charges being dropped to God.  I enjoyed today's conversation so much, for one because you can really feel Rob's faith. It is an inspiring challenge to each of us to live a little bit better. I also appreciated Rob's attitude and his belief that things would get better. Hope is so important and Rob showed how to keep hope alive! Rob also left some action items: Pursue your heart's desires Believe you are loved and worthy of love  Pay attention to the consequences of your choices If you go out and do these things, your life will improve. If you need help doing these things at all, let me know. I'd be happy to help.   *** Support the Show:  One Mission Nutrition (10% Discount): http://allegiance.1missionnutrition.com/thehardthingpodcast (http://allegiance.1missionnutrition.com/thehardthingpodcast) Audible (Free Audiobook): http://audibletrial.com/thehardthingpodcast (audibletrial.com/thehardthingpodcast)  Help us donate $1,000 to http://ourrescue.org/ (Operation Underground Railroad): https://www.gofundme.com/f/overcoming-average (https://www.gofundme.com/f/overcoming-average) ** Thank you so much for listening to the podcast. Episode Summary: If you have ever felt hopeless, helpless, or worthless, if you have ever felt like giving up the fight and ending it all, then today is the perfect show for you. If you’ve ever considered attempting suicide or lived following a failed suicide attempt, you’ll want to hear our guest’s story in this episode. In this episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective, I talk with my guest, Rob Decker, who shares very candidly about his failed suicide attempt, and how he has found hope for a better life.  Rob shares his story about growing up in a dysfunctional home, watching his parents model poor choices with drugs and alcohol, his own history of substance abuse, and finally culminating in a failed suicide attempt. Then Rob shares how, despite his upbringing and his own poor choices, he has found hope and is living a joy-filled, hopeful life, and how you can too. Quotables from the episode: If you have ever felt hopeless, helpless, or worthless, if you have ever felt like giving up the fight and ending it all, then today is the perfect show for you. If you’ve ever considered attempting suicide or lived following a failed suicide attempt, you’ll want to hear our guest’s story in this episode. Even when our earthly parents reject or abandon us, God is our Heavenly Father and He will take care of us. God is our Father, and because of that, we can know everything will be okay. Christ still heals today, and He could simply touch us and heal us, but sometimes we learn more through the process and become closer to Him as a result. Despite the difficult circumstances we go through, the only way we can find freedom is to forgive. So often God uses our trials, our tribulation, our childhood, our experiences to help someone else. Find your peace in God and know that He has a purpose for your life. He has great things planned for your life. He will carry you through the trials. Find your hope in Him. He won’t let you down. The best decision you can make is to make Jesus Christ your Lord. It’s also important to make the decision to take care of yourself. Exercise, eat right, get enough rest, surround yourself by like-minded individuals who really care about your well-being, and do things that bring you joy. Scripture References: Psalm 27:13 “I would be in despair if I did not believe I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans for a future and a hope.” Psalm 40:1-3 “I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.” Recommended Resources: https://drmichellebengtson.com/i-have-a-confession-im-a-christian-and-i-was-suicidal/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/the-sadness-behind-suicide/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/suicide-theres-another-way/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/yes-christians-get-depressed-there-is-hope/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/this-thing-called-depression-signs-and-symptoms/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/10-verses-of-hope-for-when-you-are-down-or-depressed/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/15-ways-to-help-depressed-husband-wife/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/dear-patient-now-i-understand/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/5-promises-from-god-to-the-patient-i-didnt-meet/ “Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression” by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award https://amzn.to/2zB0e7J “Hope Prevails Bible Study” by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award https://amzn.to/2yMdN46 Social Media Links for Host and Guest: Connect with Rob Decker: Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/Decker_Ro Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rob.decker.589 For more hope, stay connected with Dr. Bengtson at: To order Hope Prevails: https://drmichellebengtson.com/hope-prevails-book/ Website: https://drmichellebengtson.com/ Blog: https://drmichellebengtson.com/blog/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrMichelleBengtson Twitter: https://twitter.com/DrMBengtson (@DrMBengtson) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drmichellebengtson/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drmichellebengtson/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/drbhopeprevails/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/MichelleBengtson Radio Show Host: http://graceandtruthradio.world/shows/your-hope-filled-perspective/ This show is made possible thanks to generous donations from listeners like you. Hello Misfit Nation! Welcome to another edition of "Lessons for Hannah!" In November of 2016, we introduced a new format that we are putting alongside our regular episodes called “Lessons for Hannah.” Hannah is my daughter and one of the main inspirations for the Misfit Entrepreneur. I wanted to have a place where she could go and learn from her daddy and his Misfit friends throughout her life….even after I am gone. If you haven’t listened to the first episode of "Lessons for Hannah," I urge you to as it gives some more background and tells the amazing story of how Hannah came to be in our lives. "Lessons for Hannah" are short, very useful, and sometimes comical lessons, that I have learned which I want to share with you and give to Hannah to help in your lives. Because I want Hannah to have these for her life, I’m going to speak as though I am talking directly to her. These episodes are a lot of fun and if you think there is a lesson that we should include in these episodes, please don’t hesitate to send it over to us at support@misfitentrepreneur.com. We’d love to share it. This week’s Lesson for Hannah Hannah, I want to talk to you about mistakes. As you go through life, you will make many mistakes. You simply cannot avoid them. You will fail. It is part of life and what makes each person’s journey unique. This is OK. It is not a bad thing at all. You’ve heard me say to you over and over that it is OK to make a mistake or fail, but what did you learn about it? And of course, finishing this sentence, “What do we do when we fall….” That’s right, we get back up. We keep getting back up. But, I want you to know – no matter how many mistakes you make and failures that you have, you can always overcome them. You can always make a comeback. I was reminded of this recently when we had a guest speaker come to our Grow Thrive Revive event. His name was Rob Decker and he told an incredible story of stubbornness, failure, and redemption. Rob, grew up with a rough family life where even his dad would not acknowledge him as his son. He started drinking and doing drugs at a very young age, but ironically also bodybuilding. Talk about an example of looking good on the outside but destroying yourself on the inside. Rob, also ran with a rough crowd and with people that would drag him down. He went through everything from arrests to bad relationships to dealing drugs. In fact, in one of his darkest moments after a fight with a girlfriend, who called the police and lied about what had happened, he actually gave up on life and threw himself out of a 3rd story window. He thought it would kill him, but he bounced off an awning landing in a way that broke his back and a bunch of other things but did not kill him. When he came awake in the hospital, the cops were there to arrest him. But as he spent the next few days in the hospital chained to a bed, he spoke to the police and the police started to investigate finding out that he was actually not guilty and dropped his arrest. But, he still had problems. He got out, healed, and started to get his life back together, but he could not quit drinking. In fact, a few years later he was driving after drinking, totaled his car and took off from the scene. He hid for a whole night under a porch where he prayed to God that if he could just get out of the trouble he was in, he would change everything. He would quit drinking, clean himself up, and devote his life to good. And in fact, through some miracle, he did not get into trouble. And finally, after all the years of screwing up, getting into trouble, abusing his body, and destroying relationships, he finally got the message, got help, and devoted himself to the promise he made to god. He now has a wonderful family, travels telling his story and the lessons learned, and has a personal training business in Colorado Springs. Rob was stubborn. It took many more years and mistakes than it should have for him to learn his lessons, but he eventually did learn the lessons. The message I want you to take away from his story is first, make it a point to learn from your mistakes and failure when they happen and make meaningful changes if needed. Don’t put them off because if you do when you finally have to confront them, they will be much worse and harder to correct than if you had confronted them in the first place. Second, even if you don’t learn your lesson the first time, or the next 20 times, if you are willing, you can still learn it and always find redemption. You can always overcome your mistakes and failures. Even when things seem the bleakest and darkest, there is a healthy way out. You may have to ask for help, but you can do it. The human spirit is strong and has the potential to overcome so much. Always keep that in mind as you go through your life. You will make mistakes and you will fail, but you can always learn, grow, and come back from it – many times even stronger than you were before. Believe in that and believe in yourself. I love you, Daddy   Best Quote: “You will make mistakes and you will fail, but you can always learn, grow, and come back from it – many times even stronger than you were before. Believe in that and believe in yourself.."   Misfit 3: Mistakes and failures are inevitable in life. They key is to grow yourself so you learn from them quickly and make meaningful changes. Don’t learning from your mistakes and failures off, because if you do, when you finally have to confront them, they will be much worse and harder to correct than if you had confronted them in the first place. Believe in yourself and your spirit to overcome things in a healthy way – not a destructive one. Resolve to never choose the destructive path.

Fitness trainer and motivational speaker, Rob Decker, shares his experiences in surviving suicide and overcoming drug addiction. We want to first make the disclaimer that this is not an episode about how to overcome drug addiction on your own. Bad Relationships and AddictionsRob Decker’s struggle with drug and alcohol abuse did not start during college binges. His life began with darkness. He shares about how he was born as the product of rape. His stepfather was also the result of a sexual assault. The relationship between mother and stepfather was a dysfunctional one at best. Drugs and alcohol abuse was the norm for this family of four. By his teenage years, Rob was drinking, doing recreational drugs, and selling. It was the only way he knew how to cope with the harsh life he faced. His image of success was centered on looking good on the outside while his life was a wreck on the inside. One day, he met a young woman at a bank and pursued a relationship with her knowing in his gut that it was a bad idea. That relationship was no different from his other toxic relationships, except that it ended with false charges of rape and attempted murder.Feeling he had nothing else going for him, Rob ran through a glass door from a 3-story apartment intent on breaking his neck on the fall. Instead of ending his life that night, he found himself surviving suicide and enduring excruciating pain. He was also under arrest and handcuffed to his hospital bed. Overcoming Drug AddictionRob’s story is one of healing and triumph. Today, he is no longer struggling with addiction, married, and father of a young boy. It was a miraculous journey for Rob Decker, although it was not a journey that happened overnight. He was told he’d never walk again. His mother even told him it would have been better if he had died the night he jumped through that window!Instead, Rob endured multiple surgeries, sessions of physical therapy, and clung onto his relationship with Jesus Christ to carry him through. While working as a fitness coach, he is also a motivational speaker using his story to inspire others to have faith in their possibilities.Resources and LinksSome of the links below are affiliate links, meaning at no cost to you Beyond the Rut will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase. Yes, your past is in part, who you are today. But you do not have to continue living a life of scarcity and jacked up situations. Learn from your past to create a better life for you and your family. Then take it to the next level by paying it forward like Rob and many others have. http://apmasterycoach.com/ () I work with small and medium-sized businesses that have little to no money to spend on marketing. I show you how to generate all the leads you can possibly handle by evaluating your existing marketing and showing you how to dramatically reduce or eliminate the money you’re currently spending while significantly increasing both your response and conversion rates. I can typically double or triple your current response rate...but a 50 to 100 times increase isn’t out of the question. And best of all, the strategies I'll teach you will continue to work for you month after month for as long as you're in business. But listen, I know talk is cheap... and I know that you’ve heard these types of claims before, so put me to the test and let me prove that everything I've just said is 100% true. If you will invest just 45 minutes with me, I promise that I will find you at least $10,000 in additional revenue that you can begin to put in your pocket this month... and every month moving forward. We can do this 45 minute session over the phone as an added convenience to you... and I promise during the time we're together that I won't try to sell you a thing. But there is one catch. I'm writing a book detailing the strategies I use to find $10,000 for any small business owner, and my publisher has asked me to include a few additional case studies in my book. I would ask those of you who take me up on my offer to allow me to document your results and use them in my book, either under your real name or anonymously. Halfway There | Christian Testimonies | Spiritual Formation, Growth, and Personal Experiences with God

Rob Decker is a personal trainer who has been radically changed by God. Today, Rob shares the moment when he jumped out a window and the tender words the Lord spoke to him in the hospital that built his faith again. His story is one of radical transformation from a hard drinking, drug abusing young man to a clear-eyed man with a full heart who speaks personally of the love of God. Listen to Rob's story and be sure to share with a friend! Stories Rob shared: Learning that his step-father was not his dad Rob was always aware that God was his father The unique physical experience he had during his conversion What drew him to unhealthy relationships The moment he jumped out a window to commit suicide and survived What his extreme response reveals about who he is The peaceful moment when God spoke to him about how his situation will be resolved The joy he feels today about his relationship with the Lord Great quotes from Rob: It [a suicide attempt] was a very hard experience but it was the beginning of a great walk with God. “I never really truly felt love or affection in my household.  There was just way too much anger, way too much physical, emotional, mental, conflict in the house.” So begins the testimony of Rob Decker. Growing up with abusive and sometimes absent parents, Rob tried to cope any way he could. He recalls, “I started drinking at a pretty young age.  I think I was about 15 years old. For me it was just never a fun thing it was an absolute escape from absolutely everything.” Visit his website: https://www.robdeckerspeaks.com/ The story starts there but it doesn't end there. Welcome to Episode 86 of the No Quit Living Podcast. NQL is a personal development podcast designed to help listeners achieve their goals and desires. Through hearing the inspiring stories and tips from the greats, we will all find it easier to stay motivated. Today's guest is none other than Rob Decker. His no quit story is nothing shy of insane, and we at NQL wouldn't wish it upon our worst enemy's. Rob at a point in his life was in an unhealthy relationship with a woman. After they had been arguing, and he left the room to sleep on the couch, the police arrived at the front door. Rob's (now ex) girlfriend had called the police and told them that he'd abused and raped her. These accusations weren't true and Rob panicked and jumped out of the window. His intention was to land on his head and break his neck, but this didn't happen. Instead, he hit an awning and survived the jump with a broken arm and a collapsed lung among many other serious injuries. To add insult to injury, Rob woke up in the hospital to an officer handcuffing him and arresting him for a crime he didn't commit. He had to overcome re-learning how to walk, when the doctors said he never would again, and through all of these experiences, Rob has learned to hold a very important thing close to him. Hope. Now, Rob is walking and spends his life sharing his story on stages, inspiring hope in all of his listeners. We hope he does for you too.   Website: https://www.robdeckerspeaks.com/ Email: rob@robdeckerspeaks.com

Coming from a troubled home, Rob Decker found an outlet for his frustration in fitness training, excessive partying, drugs and alcohol. When his ex-girlfriend claimed false charges against Rob, he had had enough. With the intent to end his life, Rob jumped out of a third story window, breaking his back in several places. In his conversation with us, Rob shares his story, how he found peace in the midst of it all – the police threatening to put him in jail, his hospital bills amounting to well over $800,000, and the doctors telling him that he'd never walk again. Today, Rob not only walks, he's healthy, strong, and is a Personal Fitness Trainer at Equinox, a luxury fitness club in Palos Verdes, California. He is also happily married and has a 10-month old son, Caleb, whom he adores. True transformation begins within us and for Rob, that journey began when he had a heart-to-heart talk with God. Rob describes the incredible peace that overcame him in that moment and how the redeeming promises of God were fulfilled in the weeks and months afterward. A story of inspiration, hope, and healing, Rob now shares his experience with others so they too can discover the transformative power of God's love in their lives. Key Takeaways 1) If it's not your time, you're not going to go. 2) What is lacking in this world is love. 3) Be a light into other people's lives. 4) Forgiving people who hurt you, frees you and shows them real love. 5) Your story can change people's lives, and there is value in every person's story. 6) Don't let fear consume you. 7) God will fulfill His promises in your life.
