Listen to this Parenting With Impact episode with Aaron Huey about emotional parenting. How to Talk to Your Complex Kids [and Other Important Relationships] Strained communication can create a hot mess of misunderstanding and conflict -- whether it's with your kids or any significant relationship in your life. In this FREE guide, you'll discover your role in communication dynamics and 10 simple but effective ways to help you build more trust and calm in your communication with your complex kids -- and any relationship. Here is what to expect on this week's show: Aaron emphasizes the significance of a parenting approach with strong boundaries, influenced by his parents' progressive attitudes with stern, traditional discipline and expectations. He credits his mom and stepdad for instilling in him the value of setting strong boundaries while supporting and uplifting children. This approach reflects a modern understanding that focuses on empowering children while maintaining clear guidelines and expectations. Aaron advocates for parents to acknowledge past parenting approaches, embrace radical change, and commit to making necessary adjustments for a better future. He emphasizes the importance of parents doing their inner work, healing past wounds, and being present for their children in a way that meets their needs. Neurodiversity Informed Coaching focuses on understanding behaviors as symptoms of underlying struggles, teaching parents coaching skills to support their children. By recognizing that behaviors are often solutions to unmet needs like safety, power, connection, freedom, and worth, parents can approach their children's actions with empathy. Parenting strategies involve understanding the reasons for a child's behavior and avoiding emotional reactions. By analyzing the why behind a child's actions, parents can address root causes rather than just reacting. Aaron stresses the significance of expressing love and support, emphasizing that the love we withhold is the pain we carry, affecting not only ourselves but also our children and relationships. By creating a space for open communication, understanding, and empathy, individuals can navigate the challenges of parenting and relationships with compassion and resilience. I can sit here and list superlatives for the photographer-turned-Olympic-multimedialist Aaron Huey all day, so I'll say only this: This was a cant-miss opportunity to dive into the mind of a 30-time National Geographic photographer/Nonprofit founder/new technology explorer and discuss so many thing in such great detail. We talk Metaverse, AI, the blockchain, death of legacy media, and more from two perspectives: that of the old photography world, and that of someone with an internal mandate to innovate.
When you're struggling with your teenager's behavior (they're acting out, angry, sneaking out, smoking weed, drinking, getting in trouble at school, etc.) you just want it to stop. So, you try consequences, you yell, you lecture, you punish, you take their cell phone away, over, and over and over again. And at some point you may reach out to a therapist, an organization or a treatment facility to do something to “straighten your teen out”. The problem is, you're focused on the wrong thing. Listen as Aaron Huey (a powerhouse of support for parents of kids who struggle) explains what he's learned from 25 years of experience in helping teens and families heal. These figures are made even more compelling as it is an industry that employs 10% of the working population. We feel this podcast will play an important role in creating conversations and awareness. Our goal is to change the construction industry, one conversation at time....As a carpenter, Father and failed Ex-Husband, Aaron has been through his own journey with his mental health and personal growth. He's seen and experienced the highs and lows of construction and the impact that fast paced, pressure driven work can have on tradies at home and onsite. Aaron is incredibly passionate about helping motivate and empower men in the industry to improve their mental health, wellness, and their outlook on life, improve their relationships and drive them towards their goals and dreams of living and creating a happy and thriving life. You can learn more here: https://www.hustletalkcoaching.com/...A huge thank you to our sponsor Lendlease for all of the work they are doing in mental health. They have a holistic approach to health & wellbeing, and continue to grow their focus around mental health. They know that employees are likely to experience higher levels of stress, anxiety and depression if they work in the construction sector. In Australia, construction workers are six times more likely to die by suicide than a workplace incident. Looking after the physical and mental health of our people is a significant part of the Lendlease culture. In support of this, Lendlease introduced wellbeing leave in 2015 – giving all employees one day every four months to attend to health & wellbeing related needs. On today's episode we talk about why video games (and screens) are so attractive, what happens to our brains when we are participating, and what we as parents can do to help prevent at-risk behavior in our teens. This is something that entire families struggle with from little kids up to adults. Even I was once again reminded that I need to check my boundaries again to make sure I'm not spending too much time on devices.Aaron Huey is the Founder of “Parenting Teens that Struggle” and the host of the #1 Parenting Podcast “Beyond Risk and Back” which is Mental Health News Radio Network's highest-rated show internationally. Dr. Charles Fay and Aaron Huey review the essentials of Love and Logic and how it can provide a clear path of boundaries, consequences, and responsibility for ANY child. Dr. Fay is a parent, internationally recognized author, consultant and highly skilled public speaker. Millions of educators, mental health professionals, and parents world-wide have benefited from his practical and down-to-earth solutions to the most common and frustrating behaviors displayed by youth of all ages. These solutions come directly from years of research and clinical experience serving severely disturbed youth and their families in psychiatric hospitals, public and private schools, and homes. His interest in education and psychology were peaked as a child from years of exposure to some of our nation's most dynamic experts in these fields. This early exposure came as a result of participation in training events with his father, Jim Fay. Jim is one of the nation's leading experts on child discipline and has over fifty years of experience in public education. The internationally recognized Love and Logic approach was literally developed around Charles Fay as he grew. Now he jokes, “I think that's why I became a psychologist…just to figure out what they were doing to me as a kid. But…let me be clear…I absolutely adore my mom and dad as a result.” Dr. Fay currently works full time as an author, consultant, public speaker and CEO of the Love and Logic Institute. Because of his high-powered sense of humor and story-telling skills, audiences experience the most memorable and life changing form of learning: learning that's mentally connected to joy and real-life examples. www.loveandlogic.com

IN THIS PODCAST:How unregulated parents negatively impact their children Parents need to learn how to regulate Practice adult relationship care How therapists can help parents of high-risk kids How unregulated parents negatively impact their children Some parents get into the bad habit of taking their anger and frustration out on their children when they are young. As the children age, they learn how to retaliate and treat the parents the same way, which of course upsets the parents even more. What we do as parents when we feel defensive and attacked is that we escalate, and I see parents escalating the situation as much as I see children escalating. It's an emotional escalation because … we don't [always] have emotional intelligence. (Aaron Huey) When parents are stressed, have not slept well, have not eaten well, are worried about their children, have work issues and so forth, they do not make the best decisions. If in those moments their children ask something of them or push them too far, parents can often snap and yell unnecessarily at their kids. This behavior is then learned by children as the way to behave in these situations. If we're not sleeping, eating [well], or drinking enough water, or if we're not breathing on purpose and we're not moving our bodies, we are in survival mode because you cannot accidentally be a good parent when your child is in crisis … your best parenting from survival is not good parenting. (Aaron Huey) Parents need to learn how to regulateSomewhere we have anchored that emotions are a pivot point, but [they're] not. They make it worse. You're not going to make a good decision from an emotional place … the thing about emotions is that they change, they're fluid, they're not static. (Aaron Huey) Even a good fluid parenting decision in a crisis is a bad one. Parents must address their self-care. By regulating themselves, parents will be less likely to flip in a crisis and make poor, emotional decisions. Practice adult relationship careIf both parents or partners are unregulated, have not cared for themselves, and act solely based on their emotions, then it is highly likely that their adult relationship has also suffered. Have you gone on a date with your spouse? Have you gone to coffee with your [parenting] ex and you're still trying to make things work with your parenting stuff? Tend to [your]...

The Language of Mindfulness - A Podcast on Conscious Communication by Brett Hill
This is a-rockin' conversation with a great guy who is wired to "on." He's a force for major change in people's lives in an area where few dare to tread. His work is with parents and teens who are not at "at risk" in that the risk is a possible future event but are in fact in danger, actively engaged in behavior impacting their well-being. That's why he calls his work "Beyond Risk and Back." I think you'll agree this is courageous, powerful, and inspiring. He dives into the hard stuff without hesitating. This show is a good example of what happens when two people have a good, authentic, and immediate rapport as we had a great time and I think it shows. Check it out. He was the design director for their art project “We The People” that flooded the streets of Donald Trump's Inauguration and the women's march of 2017, and has become one of the world's most iconic artistic movements. In this conversation, Aaron and I discuss how his background as an artist influences his photography, how he is breaking out of the conventional forms of photojournalism to tell more nuanced and powerful stories, and how he stepped across the journalism and activism divide, and helped create one of the most viral artistic movements in history.
