Well. That's it. The first HUGE milestone is behind us. 100 Episodes and now, it's business as usual as we fire into our next century with EPISODE 101! So, with that in mind, we thought now would be a good time to bring back one of our favourite guests. You may remember her from WAY back in Episode 13, where she defended Johnny Mnemonic. She is the director of the excellent IMITATION GIRL and the upcoming LUCKY... It is, of course, Natasha Kermani! Her chosen film? Æon Flux! Natasha continues her hot streak of selecting dystopian, or in this case utopian, sci-fi flicks with this one from director Karyn Kusama, who has gone on to make far better films such as Jennifer's Body, The Invitation and Destroyer. Based on an MTV animated series and the victim of intense studio meddling, Æon Flux was received poorly on release... but is this reputation deserved? Æon Flux also features an incredible cast which includes Charlize Theron in the titular role, Jonny Lee Miller, Pete Postlethwaite, Sophie Okonedo and Frances McDormand! The synopsis is as follows: In the 25th century, the Earth's population has dwindled to a surviving five million following a devastating virus that almost resulted in the extinction of all human life 400 years earlier. Confined to one city-state, a group of rebels, led by Handler, seeks to destroy the oppressive government -- first, by assassinating a high-ranking chairman. Tasked with this mission, Aeon Flux must integrate herself in a world of deceit and mystery. Huge thanks to Natasha for joining us! Follow her on Instagram HERE! Also, massive thanks to RUIN ME director Preston De Francis for his opening message! Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and EXTREMELY Scottish accents. Day 18 of our 31 Films of Halloween journey brings us to a new film streaming on Shudder. Ruin Me is one that we have covered before, but it is one we wanted to add to our Halloween list. With the popularity of escape rooms and hauntings, this story of a Horror Sleepover gone wrong is perfect for the season. Stick around after Masters of Horror for a bit of a spoiler on it. Andrew also continues his journey through the Masters of Horror catalog with Sounds Like. This episode plays like a lost episode of The X Files in all the right ways.
DEATH KISS concerns a vigilante with a mysterious past who goes to a crime-infested city and takes the law into his own hands, at the same time protecting a young mother and her child. This episode is sponsored by Deadly Grounds Coffee "Its good to get a little Deadly" https://deadlygroundscoffee.comAlso check out TheDarkestMachines.comWe talk with Writer-director is Rene Perez (PLAYING WITH DOLLS: HAVOC) and Producer is Jeff Miller (THE TOYBOX, OUIJA HOUSE), from Millman Productions.Filmed in Northern California, the film stars Robert Kovacs (who has gained attention for his uncanny resemblance to a certain well-known action star), Daniel Baldwin (JOHN CARPENTER’S VAMPIRES), Richard Tyson (KINDERGARTEN COP, TWO MOON JUNCTION), Eva Hamilton (horror fest fave RUIN ME), Stormi Maya, Leia Perez, Reese Austyn, and Sam Story."Rene's movie is very cool and stylish. It feels like a throwback to the Cannon films of the '80s," says Miller. "After an enthusiastic response at Texas Frightmare Weekend in May, we're excited to show the film to the general public."The DVD, with special features such as director's commentary and the trailer, will be released December 4th.Find out more at https://wicked-horror-show.pinecast.coSend us your feedback online: https://pinecast.com/feedback/wicked-horror-show/94279b01-8179-490b-946c-989d7c147b31

He provided a lot of takes on the scenes. … He was a lot of fun." - Jeff "It’s a lot of normal stuff shot in a very straightforward, normal way, not too much flare to it, although there are a couple scenes where it ramps up, that’s nowhere near enough to give us what we need." - Doc Director: Jeff Hall Cast: Rett Terrell, Alissa Rose Ford October Coast release August 7 on VOD and September 4 on DVD Dead Love In a secluded mountain town, a young man unwittingly falls in love with a mysterious funeral director who is guarding a dark secret. It’s a great sci-fi, a great story, really harkens back to some of the older sci-fi stories that you would read." - Vanessa "It all makes perfect sense. I can’t find a logic hole in it anywhere." - Jeff "It really is interesting how the Julia character (Maika Monroe) and Tau interact. That’s when the film really shines." - Doc Director: Federico D'Alessandro Cast: Maika Monroe, Ed Skrein, Gary Oldman Currently available on Netflix
Episode 17 sees Andy and Mitch joined by Preston De Francis, director of Shudder Exclusive and Official Selection of Frightfest 2017, Ruin Me. His chosen film? Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later! Directed by slasher stalwart and released in 1998, 20 years after John Carpenter's original (and recently enjoying its 20 year anniversary), Halloween H20 reunites Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode and her wayward brother Michael Myers for one "final" showdown. The film also stars Michelle Williams, Adam Arkin, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, Janet Leigh, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and features a first appearance of a certain Josh Hartnett. The synopsis is as follows: Halloween H20 picks up 20 years after the second movie with Laurie Strode now hiding out as the head mistress of a posh boarding school in the California hills after faking her own death and changing her name. She is an emotionally traumatised alcoholic wreck, still struggling with the memories of her near fatal encounters with her psychotic brother Michael Myers years earlier, and so is over-protective of her 17-year-old son John. Just when she thought it couldn't get much worse, Myers reappears after laying in hiding for the last 20 years. His target is now Laurie's son who, along with a few teenage friends, ditches a school camping trip for a private Halloween party in the now-deserted school, forcing Laurie into a climactic battle with Myers. The set dressing is gorgeous. This world feels lived in and it feels twenty years removed from the society that we have." - Rafe “I was with Anna (Lulu Antariksa) the whole way, being cautious with Peter (Colin O'Donoghue) while trying to figure out just exactly what was going on. What was his true motive and true character and what his community was going to be like? I was intrigued with that." - Jeff “The acting and the cinematography are fantastic." - Doc Director: Josh Mendoza Cast: Lulu Antariksa, Colin O'Donoghue, Mimi Rogers WHAT STILL REMAINS will open in cinemas on August 10th and on VOD nationwide on August 14th, 2018. THE FOREST OF LOST SOULS The Forest of the Lost Souls is a dense and remote forest, Portugal's most popular place for suicide. On a summer morning, two strangers meet in the woods. "It makes a lot more sense in the vein of the serial killer being a metaphor for what happens to people after someone commits suicide." - Vanessa "The cinematography is quite fantastic." - Rafe "This is a film I’d like to watch again. … In watching the first 30 minutes a second time around, I got so much more out of what was going on." - Jeff "The black and white cinematography is really crisp and exquisite, especially when they are in the forest. … There are some gorgeous shots." - Doc Director: José Pedro Lopes Cast: Daniela Love, Jorge Mota, Mafalda Banquart Release: October Coast, opens theatrically August 3 in L.A and other cities. 3: AN EYE FOR AN EYE A man and a woman kidnap her rapist in order to extract a confession, come hell or - hell. You may or may not have an unreliable narrator." - Doc Director: Lou Simon Cast: Aniela McGuinnes, Katie Carpenter, Todd Bruno, Mike Stanley Release: Uncork'd on August 7, 2018 EXTINCTION A father has a recurring dream of losing his family. I think it is a great science fiction thriller, a really great tale." - Vanessa "Extinction takes a turn that blew my mind. I totally did not expect the direction the story goes." - Rafe "I really liked this film. It fed my cynicism and paranoia about institutions." - Jeff "The whole twist, I found incredibly fascinating and what it meant and how it changed the context of everything we were seeing up until then." - Doc Director: Ben Young Cast: Lizzy Caplan, Michael Peña, Mike Colter Release: July 27, 2018, on Netflix

Join Jess and Andrew on their adventures to the cineplex, and one new release watched streaming on Shudder. We started out the weekend seeing Unfriended: Dark Web, mostly because it was the film playing closest to us. They say 'you get what you pay for', I guess that holds with getting the return on the effort you put in as well. We followed that up with a very pleasant surprise; "Ruin Me", which is streaming right now on Shudder.com. This is a fun horror film with a great concept. Highly recommended. We got around to seeing "Sorry To Bother You" two weeks after the hype train took off. Would we hop aboard? Finally, we got to see the charming new film from Bo Burnam; "Eighth Grade". When this gets to a theater near you, definitely see it. After a week off so that Luke could check out Fantastic Fest (presumably), we're back and this time we've added a co-host! Matt Stuertz, director of RWD and most recently TONIGHT SHE COMES, joins the madness for the entire episode. Heading into the news feed we have to mention the original HALLOWEEN is coming back to theaters. SYFY channel has gotten away from sharks being paired with weather patterns and is giving us NEVERKNOCK and TRUTH OR DARE. Surprisingly, we are excited for both. Netflix continues to champion the genre with horror-comedy THE BABYSITTER and the acquisition of THE RITUAL. And finally, since we have the man himself on the show, we talk about TONIGHT SHE COMES and the one-night screening it is having. Early listeners to the show will get a chance to see it Thursday, October 5th. As a sorry for missing a week, we decided some bonus content was in order. Luke interviewed the minds behind RUIN ME, Preston DeFrancis and Trysta A. Bissett. You won't want to miss this film. This week's review is another from Netflix, GERALD'S GAME. Mike Flanagan has been a busy man, with a fair amount of success, but how does he fair with a movie that most claimed to be impossible to film? You not only get our usual opinions, but the insight of someone who knows what it takes to direct. Finally, we finish up #ASKMODERNHORRORS. All of that and a whole lot more in this whopping two hour episode!
Welcome to Horror Filmmaking Academy, where you can learn all about creating a killer horror movie. On this episode, I'll be talking with Trysta Bissett and Preston DeFrancis. Trysta and Preston are the writer/director team behind indie horror Ruin Me, which has found its' way on to FrightFest as well as many other top horror festivals. They give us so much insight into indie filmmaking and answer the question of whether it's essential to have a marquee actor if you want to sell your movie. Welcome to Fear Frequency! It’s a new horror podcast hosted by Jimmy Champane and George Fresard, two lifelong best friends who have talked about horror movies every day since they met. Unlike a lot of other shows out there, we’re not stuck in the past. We might bring up Halloween 4 and talk about why it’s not as bad as everyone thinks once in a while, but at the end of the day we want you to walk away with a new horror movie, TV show, video game or comic to hunt down every week. We keep it quick and dirty with episodes that (usually) won’t be longer than an hour. After we crack our first beer, each episode is broken up into a news segment, a review segment and a wild card segment where we might read a creepy story, answer listener questions or pick a topic of the week. For our inaugural episode, we start by introducing your hosts. Next we share our thoughts on Ruin Me and Leatherface and finally we talk about the Rotten Manor Haunted House and Haunted Forest in Holly, MI. As we launch our show, we need your help! If you liked this first episode, make sure you subscribe on whatever service you heard it on, share it with everyone you know and make sure you follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook @fearfrequency. Finally, the BIGGEST thing you can do is rate the show. It really helps in the launch phase. And remember, you never know who's listening.
