Take 10 with Tim – May 23, 2025 @ 9:30 am 1.I know everyone loves Juan Soto, but with eight home runs and a .247 batting average after 30% of the games played this season, it looks a lot like 2022 when he hit 27 home runs and had a .242 average. He is stealing bases, which helps, but should owners be worried? Is this the player they drafted?a.He's also been criticized for his lack of hustle. Do you think that now that he's being paid, he's lost something?2.Sal Perez and Adley Rutschman hit home runs on Wednesday. It was Adley's first home run since April 20, and he's barely hitting above the Mendoza line. Perez last hit a home run on April 13 and is also just above the Mendoza line. Who are you more concerned about for the rest of the season?3.Dylan Crews will be out for a while after suffering an oblique strain on Tuesday. Robert Hassell III gets the call. He's far from the player everyone expected when he was drafted by the Padres in the first round in 2020, but he's played alright this season, with a .288 batting average, four home runs, and nine stolen bases. What do you expect, and how long do you think he'll be out?4.Patrick Corbin looked like he was playing out the string after signing that great contract with Washington. He went unowned in most leagues. This year, he's been a different guy. Pitching for Texas, he's won three games and posting a 3.59 ERA. However, he's not striking out many (6.75 K/9) and his xERA is 4.56.a.You can't sell high (maybe you can), but what do you do here? Keep starting him every week? Pick and choose based on matchups? Something else?5.In the past three games, Will Warren has a record of 2-0, with a 1.50 ERA and a 13:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He has lowered his ERA to 4.05. Is this merely a hot streak, or are we witnessing a breakout?6.Matt Shaw returns to the Cubs, and Moises Ballesteros is sent down. This is Shaw's second chance. Will this time be better?7.Rank the Top 10 pitchers you would like to own over the rest of the season.1)Skubal2)Skenes3)Yamamoto4)Wheeler5)Fried6)Brown7)deGrom8)Senga9)Bibee10)Warren8.If something pops up today, we will include9.What one hitter are you targeting in this weekend's FAAB?Robert Hassell III (OF, Was)10.What one pitcher are you targeting in this weekend's FAAB?Daniel Palenecia (RHP, CHC)

Henry Lake talks with Kansas City Royals Television Broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre about the season opener against the Twins, what they're excited about, how much time Sal Perez has left, why he compares him to Kirby Puckett and more.
Segment 1 - News and Notes1.Gerrit Cole has been shut down for a month with nerve inflammation in his pitching elbow. He will pick up a ball at that point to test things. a.This blows for people who drafted Cole in the first round.b.Who gets the starts for the Yankees?2.Eury Perez's elbow is also barking, and he's meeting with a surgeon this week to get a diagnosis. a.Another top-10 pitcher is gone. This is when I would like you to discuss your pitching narrative below. Only three of the top-10 starters in 2023 will begin the 2024 season, and 18 of 50 are hurt.b.Who gets the starts in Perez's absence?3.Devin Williams will be out for three months. Yikes. He was a top 3 closer off the board. Who do you pick up? – Miguel, Uribe, Payamps4.Taj Bradley will start the season on the IL with pectoral discomfort. Who gets his starts in Tampa?5.On a positive pitching note. Scherzer and Verlander are getting closer to picking up a baseball.6.There was a big trade this week with the Padres on the move again. They acquired Dylan Cease for Drew Thorpe (the second time he's been traded this offseason), Jairo Irarate, Sammy Zavala, and Steven Wilson.a.Do you like the move for fantasy managers who have drafted Cease?b.Do you move up Thorpe in your rankings?c.c. The Padres do this a lot: trade for big names. Will it work this time? The last I looked, they were in the same division as the Dodgers.7.Shota Imanga has looked better than Yamamoto this spring. It had to said.Segment 2 – Updating Tim's RankingsFirst Base1.I'd move Rhys Hoskins up ahead of Sal Perez. He's having a good Spring. Second Base1.Drop Tommy Edman down below Gavin Lux. The wrist isn't coming around and he is starting the season on the IL. It could turn out to be a long-term issue.2.Drop Zach McKinstry down into the 30's. He won't be a full-time bat. 3.Drop Jonathan India down. 4.Move Brendan Rodgers up into the mid-20's. 5.Joey Ortiz at #65 moves up into the high 20's with the trade to Milwaukee. 6.Drop Taylor Walls down. Starting the season on the IL. Third Base1.Drop Noelvi Marte. A reserve pick in 15-team ReDrafts. 2.It looks like the Joey Ortiz trade bumps Tyler Black down the board, as it should. 3.Colt Keith should slide up a few slots. Shortstop1.Oneil Cruz has to move up. 2.Jackson Merrill has to move up as it looks like he's making the Padres as the CF. 3.Masyn Winn and Brice Turang should be bumped up.

Assuming the Kansas City Royals will soon change the tense on their season — from present to future — it's time to begin thinking about what they could bring back in trades. And who are the team's top candidates to deal? On today's SportsBeat KC podcast, beat writer Lynn Worthy and columnists Sam McDowell and Vahe Gregorian discuss trade value of Royals players and what the return might bring. Also, signs are positive for Salvador Perez with a pair of home runs over the weekend. He got some advice from an interesting source. And starter Daniel Lynch has now had two straight rough outings. The Royals can't find any momentum. Last week, after a 7-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, they were hammered 10-0 the next day. After taking the first game of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, the Royals dropped the second game and lost the series on Monday. Lack of clutch hitting continues to be the biggest issue. Slugger Salvador Perez seems to be coming out of his malaise with two hits in each of his last three games, raising his batting average by nearly 40 points. But Whit Merrifield continues to be mired in a season-long slump. On today's SportsBeat KC podcast, we sort through it all with beat writer Lynn Worthy and columnist Sam McDowell. The show started as a SportsBeat Live. Before starting a home stand on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers, the Royals had seen each of their starting pitchers once. The results have been mixed. Zack Greinke and Brad Keller were terrific to open the season. But Kris Bubic and Carlos Hernandez got knocked around before Daniel Lynch blended good moments with bad. Add it up, and the answer is ... too small of a sample size to analyze fully. But KC Star beat writer Lynn Worthy and columnist Sam McDowell discussed this and more after the season's first week, including a slow start at the plate for first baseman Carlos Santana. Also on Thursday's SportsBeat KC podcast: In light of the San Francisco Giants violating some of baseball's unwritten rules in a pounding of the San Diego Padres, what's to be said about the unspoken codes and sportsmanship? Story links: Kansas City Royals' Sal Perez blasted 2 homers, but he would rather have gotten the win Kansas City Royals can't escape hole after Daniel Lynch gives up 6 runs at Cardinals Learn more about your ad choices. Also, the pitching rotation is set: The Royals will use four starters for the first two weeks of the season. The fifth starter, when he’s needed, isn’t an obvious choice at the moment. Will relievers be assigned spots in the bullpen, especially the back end? That worked beautifully for the Royals during their pennant years, but even with some of the same players on this year’s roster, that may not be their approach this spring. Story links: Three stories about Sal Perez and the biggest contract in Kansas City Royals history Junis says he’s ready whenever the Royals need him and shows why he’s in relief against the Angels Bobby Witt Jr. won’t start the season in majors. We are one week from the beginning of the season and Jim & DiNardo talk the middle infield as well as how the Opening Day Roster is shaping up. We also talk a little of the Royals extension of Sal Perez and why this should be something the Pirates are able to also do.
In today's episode Tim "The Ferds" and friend of the show Keith Hernandez break down some major storylines from the American League Central. The guys talk about their favorite offseason additions to the division as well as wet the beak by giving their picks for AL Cy Young, MVP and of course their division winner. The guys talk about if Miguel Cabrera will hit his major career milestones this year and if we will see Spencer Torkelson in a Tigers uniform. Tim shares why he thinks the Royals could be sneakily mediocre and why Sal Perez will be the fantasy baseball steal of the year from this team. Keith breaks down the Francisco Lindor trade from the Indians perspective and if the Indians can continue to win with Shane Bieber as their only proven starter. The guys break down the top of the division between the Twins and White Sox. Finally, Keith outlines in Keith's Korner how Tony La Russa effects the White Sox younger core and shares why the pick for AL MVP of out this division will most certainty be young player from the White Sox.
Today on What's Trending, NBA postseason resumes Saturday, MLS to investigate Real Salt Lake owner over possible racism, Big Ten considering a season, and Sal Perez and Nick Heath feeling better. The Royals could possibly have some guys on the move this weekend. Another horrifying story about the treatment of employees and women inside the Washington organization. We don't understand how Dan Snyder continues to hang on. What's the worst thing you've ever broken? See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.
Close but no cigar as the Royals rally against Craig Kimbrel came up short. Adalberto Mondesi, Sal Perez and Brady Singer were the stars in defeat. Shane believes KC should fight any temptation to promote Bobby Witt, Jr. See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

Back in March of 2011, Eric Hosmer and Sal Perez hadn't even played in Omaha yet, and we started a crazy little Royals podcast. Through controversial trades, odd managerial moves, slumps, surges, winning streaks, and a couple of playoff appearances, we've been here to discuss it all, culminating in a World Series and the following rebuild. This is our final episode. All things must end, and this seems the right time. With an ownership change ahead, a new manager, and a new wave of players in the pipeline, we're stepping away leaving behind 8 years and 9 seasons. It's been an absolute joy. We've always tried to do our show our way and the things we've been able to do and people we've been able to meet ... it's been crazy. On behalf of our founder Troy Olsen, our incomparable host Jeff Herr, the kid in the back of the classroom throwing spitballs Chris Kamler, and myself: Thank you for listening. If you've been here since day one, my gosh, thanks for sticking with us. If you only just found us, I'm sorry for the rough timing...but we have plenty of past episodes online. For this episode, we invited Troy and Chris back to join us and just sat down and talked about the experience, our memories, our favorite guests and moments, and just had a lot of fun hanging out. There's not much in the way of Royals news, but we had a lot of fun and I hope you give it a listen. (ALSO: Should warn you that there is some cursing, as we just kinda let it go for this one.)If nothing else....here's the rundown of the episode if you want to bounce around:Open: Mike McCartney, the voice of Kauffman Stadium, reads a soliloquy we handed him sometime in maybe 2012.From there, it's the four of us talking about everything. At 1:30:15, a compilation of the moments we've covered during the run of the show: "Everyone's an MVP to Someone"1:35:30 - The Fake Ned Minute1:41:25 - an old Kelly's ad: "Barhopping"1:42:28 - another ad: "Spit Cup"1:44:30 - Compilation: "Royals Are The Champions:1:47:30 - Outtakes: "Kamler is summoned"1:47:49 - Outtakes: "A Great Opportunity!"1:48:15 - Outtakes: "Sponsorships"1:49:50 - The best tribute to baseball I can imagine: A. On Sunday, July 21, 2019, the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), will celebrate the 34th anniversary of its founding by Pope Saint John Paul II. The AMS will mark the occasion by remembering in a special way the 182 Catholic priests currently on active duty in the U.S. Military. It will hold a "Day of Giving," providing the public an opportunity to support Catholic military chaplains. The hope is that generous benefactors will make at least 182 donations in support of the AMS mission, "Serving Those Who Serve," or one donation for every chaplain. Donations can be made at www.milarch.org/dayofgiving. The donation page will be open from 12 noon on Sunday, July 21, until 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22. That's 34 hours--one hour for every year the AMS has been in existence. In this edition of Catholic Military Life, the only official podcast of the AMS, Advancement Director Sal Perez shares why it is so important for the Archdiocese to receive support from private donors, and how the money will be used to bring Christ to military Catholics and their families.

Miscellaneous thoughts, three weeks out from Opening Day
Topics in this edition include: - Is Bryce Harper tampering by trying to recruit Mike Trout to the Phillies? (And does it matter?) - Would the 26-man roster be a welcome change? - Does Luis Severino's injury hurt the Yankees' playoff chances? - Who will be the best catcher in the AL with Sal Perez out all season?
3-5-19 The Program opened the show talking about the Wildcats victory over the TCU Horned Frogs and what it means for the team's NCAA seeding and tournament success. Petro and the Program then react to the reports of Justin Houston being released, then that report being retracted and where the information could have come from. The hour closes with a quick conversation about the Royals possibly using a n opener and the catching depth after the injury to Sal Perez.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hitter observations over the last two weeks and deep dives on two players expected to excel this week: Marcus Semien and Greg Bird. Players discussed: Matt Carpenter, Carlos Asuaje, George Springer, Cameron Maybin, Bryce Harper, Joe Mauer, Sal Perez, Aaron Hicks, Anthony Rizzo, Jason Kipnis, Marcus Semien and Greg Bird.
The way this season has gone, it's a miracle the Royals get an All Star representative (even if it's in the rules that they do...) but we discussed Sal Perez as this year's sole representative. He gets a sixth appearance in a row, despite a rough stat line. But that's the type of year it's been. And the Royals have also run into injuries, particularly in the pitching staff. We discussed injuries and shuffling among the Royals rotation as they limp into the All Star break. Then we discussed some of the fun players to watch the rest of the season and what we might learn. Also, somehow we ended up talking about Josh Brolin being cast as Ned Yost. It should totally happen.Follow the Vault at @KCBaseballVault. Follow host Jeff Herr at @TheJeffReport, co-host Michael Engel at @michaelengel. Lebron survived and had the most Lebron game of all time (2:20 - 5:10). What the hell do the Thunder do now? We're going to miss Joe Prunty and his horrible fashion and the Wizards need to blow the whole thing up (5:10 - 18:17). The Caps have even the series and we're here to stave off the haters (18:17 - 22:14) . Who's Back of the Week including Draft Grades and Nerds. We discuss Avengers even though none of us saw it so don't worry about Spoilers (22:14 - 33:28). Heavyweight MMA Champion of the world Stipe Miocic joins the show to talk about his title, being doubted by Dana White, and what it's like being a Cleveland sports fan (33:28 - 56:01). We went on Arian Foster's podcast and included 10-15 minutes of our talk with him and a bonus first time we've talked BVT/ESPN since October (56:01 - 70:10). Segments include the debut of "Can I ask a question", Stay Classy for Sal Perez, and Embrace Debate Shaq thinks half of 80 is 20 and filling up your gas tank more means you spend less money.
The Royals haven't gotten into a groove yet, but help arrived this week, as Sal Perez and Alex Gordon both returned from the DL. That overlapped with a special return from old friend Lorenzo Cain, and, on the subject of returns, Ned Yost may return next year, and the next, and next...We discussed those topics in light of using this season to look for special moments and progress on the field, including a Royals walkrate that's way better than their franchise norm, and the potential, possible, maybe-it's-coming-but-we'll-have-to-wait-and-see breakout of Jorge Soler.Follow the Vault at @KCBaseballVault. The Royals have been on the Royalcoaster in the second half and while they're still in the playoff hunt, there's a lot going on to toy with all of our emotions. We got caught up and discussed the two trades the Royals made to bulk up their roster, as well as the other roster moves, including Alex Gordon's break, Sal Perez's DL trip, and how the new acquisitions fit in.The Royals have opportunities during the remainder of August but especially in September as the schedule gets easier. Can they get right and take advantage, or will Mike Moustakas chasing Steve Balboni be the only intrigue left in 2017?Follow the Vault at @KCBaseballVault. This week, we marveled at the homerun hitting power of Mike Moustakas and the All-Star invitations given to Sal Perez and Jason Vargas. Then there's that little matter of the Royals jumping into a wild card spot and being within a game and a half of first place.Oh, also Danny Duffy returned a couple weeks ahead of schedule. Live from Petco Park in San Diego, Commissioner Rob Manfred joins the best interview in baseball. The guys chat with David Ortiz, Paul Goldschmidt, Sal Perez, and other All Stars. Ortiz and Millar team up to make their Home Run Derby predictions.
This week we had a lot to cover, including Danny Duffy's bid for a perfect game, Alex Gordon's bombs on Sunday, Sal Perez getting hurt, Justin Maxwell getting designated for assignment, 810 Zone snubs, and some developments in baseball that could lead to an alternative to Mike Moustakas.Along with that, we also talked about some of the newly unveiled features of MLB's developing player tracking system and some ways it can be applied, which led to a discussion about just how to enjoy the game. There's been some discussion recently about the split between casual fan and hardcore stathead fan and how the game should be watched. Locally, Bob Fescoe has been critical of those who like to look at stats, while Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe wrote a column suggesting that stat fans only wanted to look at stats and not watch the game. Jeff and Mike think there's room for both, and they tell you why that is and how they watch a ballgame, and what that means in relation to the stats that are out there.
To distract ourselves (momentarily) from the Royals' awful series in Minnesota, we opened the show by talking about Royals fandom, loyalty, and some silly comments from Steve Physioc about social media. But we couldn't stall forever and had to address some concerns - the offense, the bullpen. Players we thought should be fine who aren't, and players we feared would be awful who are - so far - still awful. It's not all bad, though. We talked about the bright spots in the early season as well, like the start from Jason Vargas, and Sal Perez's solid hitting. We compared being a Royals fan to being a Marlins fan, the Royals offseason and payroll standing, Billy Butler's early struggles and some of the flack against him. We let it all flow out so the fan pain wouldn't be so real. Finally, Troy shared what's next for the show and for him and we looked back at just a few of the early moments of the podcast's run. We'll still be around as usual, but there are changes ahead.Share your thoughts with us - have a correction? Disagree? Want to lavish praise upon us and help our ego? One hundred degree temperatures and a crappy showing against the Cardinals melted the Royalman Report team down to just Chris and special guest Dave Darby. We talked about a miserable series against the Redbirds and where the team goes from here. We also talked with Kansas City Star columnist, Sam Melliger about Jerry Sandusky, Sal Perez, Twitter Tuesday and the Olympics and finally finished up the show with Royals Bullpen catcher from 1984 to 2003, Bill Sobbe. Bill is currently the bench coach for the Kansas City T-Bones.
The guys were joined in studio by member of the 1985 World Series Champion Kansas City Royals, Greg Pryor and on the phone by current Royals Catcher Brayan Pena. Greg told stories about 1985 and was the target of our trivia question. Brayan told us why he loves the Royals, America, what he thinks of Sal Perez and Humberto Quintero and much much more!
