In this special Flashback Friday episode, I reconnect with the inimitable Chase Reeves. It's been quite a journey since our last conversation back in 2020 at The BIG Ready. This time, Chase dives deep into the nuances of creativity, the evolving journey of fatherhood, and the value of embracing life's gray areas amidst polarization. We reflect on Chase's transformative experiences over the past few years, from shifting creative projects to navigating personal growth. His stories, insights, and musings highlight the importance of slowing down, staying authentic, and finding meaning in connections. This is a conversation packed with wisdom and plenty of thought-provoking moments.Key Discussion Points The impact of slowing down and embracing life's quieter moments. Chase's creative journey from Fizzle to becoming a YouTube creator. The role of fatherhood in shaping perspective and purpose. Reflections on navigating middle ground in a polarized world. The concept of "creative menopause" and evolving through seasons of life. How meaningful connections, like Chase's magnetic green light metaphor, anchor us to what matters most. A deeper look into Arnold Bennett's How to Live on 24 Hours a Day and its relevance today. In this thoughtful and reflective conversation, Chase reminds us of the beauty of being present, embracing nuance, and navigating life with a mix of creativity and authenticity. I recently returned to Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa for my second visit, except this time I got to journey alongside 3 of my closest brothers — Boyd, Chase, and Greg. And it was nothing short of epic.In 1926, Boyd's great-grandfather purchased a bankrupt cattle farm and after years of partnering with nature and devising a model that allowed for the land to be honored and protected this special place became Londolozi Game Reserve. To say that Londolozi is a magical experience is an understatement. It's the depth of presence one sinks into simply by being on the land, the connection to the wild that is also within us, and the reconnection to our knowing that really does something special and expansive to the psyche.→ How our anxiety and depression often stems from a sense of meaninglessness→ The realization that our wants and needs remove us from presence and appreciation→ Shifting from our comparative world into a relational world→ The ‘knowing' in each of us that is beyond rational thought→ The parallels between tracking animals and our journey through life→ Embracing the moments of quiet presence→ A hippo encounter that turned expansive→ And more!Resources:• Londolozi Game Reserve• Our Londolozi Vlog• Peyton, Lyndsay, and Maureen Londolozi Episode• The Lion Tracker's Guide to Life• Cathedral of the Wild• Feel FreeConnect with Boyd• Website• Track Your Life Podcast• 40 Days and 40 NightsConnect with Chase:• YouTube• InstagramConnect with Greg:• House of Shan• InstagramConnect with Cal:• Instagram• Facebook• YouTube• Website• Subscribe to the newsletterThis show is produced by Soulfire Productions

My conversation with Dr. Tom Tonkin. We had a wide ranging conversation. He dropped a lot of knowledge on us including the following tidbits: Tom has a background in NLP. Here is a brief overview of the inputs that Tom spoke of. Tom's favorite British Statistician of the 1700s actually turns out is George E.P. Boxof the 1900s, but no matter. The quote is “All models are wrong but some are useful.” I mentioned the concept that it is not a lack of resources but rather a lack of resourcefulness that stops you attributed to Tony Robbins. This lead to a conversation about Self Directed Learning. Tom mentioned four components to self directed learning: 1) Being Resourceful 2) Having a Desire 3) Having Persistence and 4) Having Initiative. Tom introduced us to the conative, the third area of the brain. Ok, so the backpack review guy is Chase Reeves. And my backpack is the Pro Executive from Waterfield. Tom introduced us to the Google Ngram Viewer. I went down a rabbit hole playing with it. Tom mentioned one of my favorite reads of last year, Atomic Habits by James Clear and his exploration of habits as systems. We went back in TV history to L.A. Law and their opening scene each week. So Tom didn't give me much to go on with his next tidbit…Gail something from Dominican University. I found her (Dr. Gail Mathews) and the study about writing things down. Tom's Daily Ritual: Tom looks at his digital task list. His choice of digital task/idea manager is todoist. Tom uses fountain pens to hand write one page of tasks into an analog notebook and then works out of the notebook during the day. Tom's choice of notebooks is the Baronfig. At the end of the day, Tom transfers his notes from the day into his digital manager. You can find Dr. Tom Tonkin on most of the socials including an app I had not heard of before – VOXER where he invites you to send him a message or question and he will respond.
Today we have former Co-Host and Co-Founder of The Fizzle Show, Chase Reeves! We catch up with Chase today as he embarks on his own podcast journey with his new show: “Traveling Light.” He brings us through his process of starting his own show, his journey with creativity taking many forms over the years, and how he stayed motivated in the entrepreneurial space.
In this episode, I chat with my ex business partner, Chase Reeves. We cover media, independent digital business, and the state of the creator economy.

In this episode, we dissect Jared’s recent Ayahuasca exploration, the interconnectedness of community within humanity, the hardships of transforming trauma, plant-medicine initiation and integration, the darkness of the hero’s journey, and more! David mentioned Millard Fillmore – the 13th President of the United States (1850-1853) and the last President not to be affiliated with either the Democratic or Republican parties. We discussed the Iranian hostage situation which began in November 1979 and lasted not for 100 days but rather for 444 days. That same link confirms that indeed, it was the start of the show Nightline (its original title was The Iran Crisis--America Held Hostage) whch was started to compete with the Tonight Show. The connection with tying a yellow ribbon Is through Penne Laingen, wife of one of the hostages, Bruce Laingen who told a reporter we could teach the Iranians that you can protest on the streets without being harmed and suggested they tie a yellow ribbon to nearby trees. From that interview, the ribbon slowly spread across the country and Ms. Laingen was asked to tie a yellow ribbon to the national Christmas tree. I told Dave about Armchair Expert, with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman. Dave mentioned the commercials featuring Dax and his wife Kristen Bell and that one of his favorite movies is the Mike Judge classic, Idiocracy. Dave spoke of the history of digital Communications in the White House and the launch of whitehouse.gov. I found this article about it featuring Dave being interviewed. He also spoke of the basic level of communications available on Air Force one on September 11, 2001. I found this excellent piece on Politico We discussed the Nixon- Kennedy Debates in 1960 and Dave recounted a story of meeting someone with firsthand knowledge. Here is more of that story. Dave gave a Shout out to Widener University which is his alma mater (Mine too). We discussed the influencer economy at length. Here is a great podcast episode with greater detail. Dave spoke of YouTube as the second largest search engine in the world. Read this article for more. I mentioned the backpack review guy on YouTube. His name is Chase Reeves. If you don’t know what packing squares or cubes are…you need to. I was able to find the movie that Dave mentioned regarding women serving in the military. It is called Served Like a Girl and I look forward to watching it. Dave and I debated homeruns vs. strikeouts. After the podcast, Dave texted this to me: “ You can link to this for Babe Ruth reference. His name appears an awful lot on this list. Aaron, on the other hand, had fewest SOs. That’s why Babe Ruth stuck in my head. Many HRs & SOs comparatively.” Dave quoted Wayne Gretsky – “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” See this article for more about taking your shots. We spoke with reverence of the rolodex. Here is the history of the venerable office tool. Dave’s company is Capital Gig and you can find them at Capitalgig.com You can email him at david@capitalgig.com and he uses the @almacy as his handle for the socials.

Shownotes: http://fizzleshow.com/338 Which strategies help us stay productive with the bulk of our time? What do we do when one of these strategies loses its effect? What is the right balance between being focused on productivity and actually being productive? In the online business world, there is more than enough literature and content offering you ways to be more productive! These ideas can often be really helpful, sometimes seem like noise and can distract you from what is important. We want to assess where the general productivity conversation is currently situated and help you to gauge where you are with it! In this episode, we break down the ever-evolving inner and outer world of productivity. A common experience for many people seems to be that tactics and systems can help a lot but that their effect can wear off over time. So one of the main issues here seems to be how to pivot at the right point to a new way of doing things. Today on the show we are joined by our old bestie Chase Reeves and past guest / great friend Mike Vardy. Mike is a productivity expert who runs Productivityist and has some great, sometimes strange, routines that we cannot wait to share with all of you! We also talk about maintaining focus, virtual assistants, the negative side of productivity and what theming your time can offer you. For all this and more, join us today for another great show! Shownotes: http://fizzleshow.co/320 When last did you feel stuck, whether in your business or just in your level of motivation for life? Do you sometimes wonder why you are not getting forward or why you cannot get yourself to do what you know you have to? In this episode we talk about both the positive and negative effects of fear in our lives. Many times, fear is at the root of our passivity and understanding what scares you will help you to recognize when it's controlling your behavior in destructive ways. The other side of the coin is that fear is a self-preserving mechanism that keeps us from doing stupid things. Where is the balance here? Today on the show we are joined by a very special guest, Ruth Soukup, who helps us shed light on this all-important topic. She is a bestselling author who is dedicated to helping women overcome fear and create the life they love through her blog Living Well Spending Less, which reaches more than one million women a month. Ruth is also the founder of the Living Well Planner and Elite Blog Academy as well as the author of five bestselling books. Being an entrepreneur, her story is super relatable to all of us who are still digging the trenches for the business we want. We also talk about taking one step at a time instead of being paralyzed by the daunting 100 steps to achieving your goals. Ruth shares how she went from being suicidal and not having the courage to go to the grocery store to owning a seven-figure company and living the quality of life that exceeds her wildest expectations. Shownotes: http://fizzleshow.com/319 Are you struggling with shame because your Instagram posts don't get enough likes, or maybe you feel confident because you get tons all the time? Social media and the Internet shape our modern-day business conditions where we have all these opportunities for independent creativity that could lead to an audience and a sellable product or service. There's still a lot to learn though! Business is a lot like dating. It develops over time, hopefully to a point where your audience know, like and trust you enough to invest money in the solution you offer. But what happens when you do that and then you have another idea? Many entrepreneurs are confronted with this question sooner or later: do I want to do this, or would I rather do something else? Can I do both? It would be very wise to prepare yourself for this process of expanding, adding to or morphing your business. In this episode we get deeper into the heart of modern independent creative entrepreneurship, discussing what to do when you feel the urge to start something new or change direction. We also talk about why your career path is not as linear as it is often made out to be and why going sideways instead of upwards is sometimes the most genius alternative. We chat at length about the importance of being curious, but also when to get more serious and structured in your approach. If you want to push the boundaries, try something new and open yourself up to the best possible opportunities, join us for this discussion where we hash it all out! [0:17:50.0] • Releasing pressure by focusing only on the next best step. [0:23:30.0] • Transitioning from playing with an idea to recognizing that it's a viable business opportunity. [0:25:51.0] • Creating a semi-structured environment that still allows for flexibility and natural progression. Agency Nation Radio - Insurance Marketing, Sales and Technology
It only becomes a matter of time before your innovative idea generates enough friction for someone to not care. More often than not, this is the reaction you receive anytime you try to do something different too long. Because as soon as it gets in the way of something more important what little acceptance you had gets tossed out the window. It's in those moments you're quietly being conditioned to play it safe and limit the necessary chances your agency needs to take. That's what I talk to Chase Reeves, of Bag Works, about his battle of acceptance vs. tolerance.

Shownotes: http://fizzleshow.com/311 Do you sometimes feel like you're trying to push a Sisyphean rock up a hill as an entrepreneur? There will likely be initial excitement about a new business or idea, but what mostly follows is a period where your motivation begins to dwindle and you begin to second-guess yourself. The question is, are you able to get out of that pit? There are also times when you can simply let the rock glide down the other side of the hill, when things seem to happen effortlessly. But how do I get more gliding and less pushing? Can it be easier to make money? Is it possible to have less stress and anxiety and to be better set up for success? In this episode, we get into the topic of navigating your emotions as an entrepreneur, discussing the relevance of the “Just Ship It!” challenge, Ram Dass's concept of neutrality, how others influence our responses and the importance of becoming aware of your blind spots. On the show we are joined by Corbett Barr, Aiden Fishbein and our special guest, Joe Kerns, who is a mental resilience expert and someone who has a ton of experience on the topic of our conversation today. He shares about the ABC model as a tool to analyze and better understand our reactions to circumstances, the role that our thoughts play in shaping our emotions and how it all ties into our interpretation of the past, present and future. We also talk about why it is so hard for entrepreneurs to take that first step of getting something out the door and about the effect that thoughts and emotions have on business. Join us today for expert advice on growing the mental toughness that is required to succeed in business. Are you ready for this bonus episode?! It's a little out there and incredibly raw... and while it's a departure from the classic C&C format, I'm still a little electrified from this conversation. As we prepare to kick off Season 2 of these podcast (YAY!), I was having a conversation with my teammate and friend, Chase Reeves. He asked me one important question:"How do you want Courage & Clarity to feel?" The question gave me pause for a few different reasons.First of all, it was refreshing. Questions like, "What should our goal be for this podcast?" often leave me scratching my head -- uhh, 1,000 people listen to it? A million people? Having Oprah on the show?? But how I want it to feel? That's a question I can actually answer. This conversation isn't about shirking results. Results are big time important mile markers -- I'm starting to see them as the guard rails that help ensure a project is on track. But I see them less and less as a guiding light. You see, "results" or "goals" as we traditionally define them are burdened with energy-draining traps laid by ego, comparison and doubt. Those goals want to keep us on the hamster wheel, chasing "success" without ever really feeling great. You have to start with how you want it to feel, not just when it's over, but while you're creating. Here's how Chase put it:"If you want some outcome, spend time practicing how you want that outcome to feel." I know it might feel like a stretch, but all the things you want to feel -- joy, competence, excitement, security, safety -- you don't have to wait to feel them. You can feel those things right now, before you reach "success" (

On the show today, 2 experts share what it's *really* like to run a membership site. The experts, of course, are Corbett Barr and Chase Reeves (that's me) 2 of the co-founders of [Fizzle's Business Courses & Community], a membership site that's been live for almost 4 years at the time of writing. There's a lot of conversation in the world of online business about how valuable a recurring revenue model. Dependable recurring income that you can count on sounds very sexy if your business needs to be selling to new customers every single day. So, is it as good as it sounds? Or, as a smart Fizzler put it in the forums: what *don't* I know about running a membership site? That's what we lay out for you today on the show, diving in deep to a big list that Corbett prepared. I listen to lots of podcasts. And while I have a few core podcasts I don't ever miss, I am constantly trying new shows out, looking for fresh voices I can put into my listening rotation. In today's episode, I'll share my listening strategy: how I selected my “A” shows, which I never miss, how I select my “B” shows, which I selectively listen to, and how I decide what new shows to sample. And of course I will give you my list of 10 fresh new shows you should check out. Other Reasons To Keep Listening A book you can read this afternoon that will boost the success you enjoy starting tonight. What to do about being disappointed with God. How you can get promoted on my show, and get exposure for your website. That's all coming up in today's episode… Announcements: Next week, we'll release the first in a series of free video trainings on how to write powerful sales copy that sells your products and services… without feeling like a sleazy salesperson. I've decided to open the “insider only” invitation to our upcoming event Permission to Prosper to podcast listeners and subscribers. After all, you're insiders too! Click here for the details, but do it quickly. Success Stories I'm looking to share your success stories and good news. So if you've got a business triumph, spiritual victory, a story of God's miraculous intervention in your life or your business… I want to hear about it. Click this link to record a voicemail about your success story or testimony. Tip of the Week: I just re-read The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann. This book is a quick read, but it can radically shift your level of success immediately. Even better, the tactics are not faddish, but are rather based on timeless principles. While implementing what you read may not put money in your bank account tomorrow, I do believe you will feel more wealthy within 24 hours of reading it (if you put the principles into practice). It's engaging, fun to read, and has a strong spiritual foundation (while not being tied to any one religion). To say more would be to reduce the impact of the book – just get it and read it. Or re-read it. You won't be sorry. Click here to buy this book from Amazon. Spiritual Foundations: What to do about being disappointed with God. Do you ever feel let down by God? How do you deal with that? Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan, because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me. My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me. Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.” Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city. Day and night they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it; ruin is in its midst; oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace. For it is not an enemy who taunts me— then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me— then I could hide from him. But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. We used to take sweet counsel together; within God's house we walked in the throng. Let death steal over them; let them go down to Sheol alive; for evil is in their dwelling place and in their heart. But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice. He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage, for many are arrayed against me. God will give ear and humble them, he who is enthroned from of old, Selah because they do not change and do not fear God. My companion stretched out his hand against his friends; he violated his covenant. His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. But you, O God, will cast them down into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in you. Psalm 55 Pour out your complaint to the Lord, but remember He will ultimately bring you the justice you seek. This week Myke is joined by Chase Reeves. They talk about some of the emotions and choices people go through when they want to 'start their own thing'. This includes discussion of mistakes, lessons and advice from Chase.
Whenever I talk to Chase Reeves it's like two little rabbits hopping all over the place chasing a carrot through the world of philosophical meaning and existential angst. In a good way. ;) Chase is a designer, educator and co-founder of Fizzle.co, which is hands-down the best online community for people who want to make a living doing something they love. Check out the contest to win a full year of Fizzle for FREE. He's a self-described “weird mix of business, design, marketing, tomfoolery, cocktails, marketing, design, flahoolick, and cocktails. Most of his friends say he's the most indelicate person they know.” Here are some of my favorite bits from the show: Art vs. Artifice “We live in a world of shit and yet we desire and dream of making something good. And in order to make something good we have to fool ourselves into trying, first of all, in a world where only shit things get big, and then if we really want that thing to have a change of getting big or to be seen by a lot of people, we have to wrap that good thing in shit and get it out there. And I can't just wake up in the morning and feel like, I'm so grateful for what I have. It's all about me me me, and everything fucked up and I don't know where I'm going and yet I have is so good.” “There's artifice in everything. I don't think there *is* a balance. The best we can do is try not to swing to pendulum to hard to the other side. That's the game we're in.” Passion is still hard work “You and I are dreaming about a thing that doesn't feel like a job. But everything turns into a job in the end.” On having enough “What is big? What if what I have right now is enough.” “Part of me feels like the whole secret to this thing is being satisfied, being grateful.” As always, I had a great time talking to Chase. Enjoy the show! Chase is a weird mix of business, design, marketing, tomfoolery, cocktails, marketing, design, flahoolick and more cocktails. Most of his friends say he’s the most indelicate person they know. Through his work at Think Traffic and Fizzle.co, he helps (literally) thousands of entrepreneurs find their creative habit (and avoid burnout). He’s got a soft spot for the working dad and man because, frankly, he could do a lot better at both. If you see him at the bar, ask him about a guy called Howard Gossage.
Caleb Wojcik is one of the three co-founders of Fizzle (along with Corbett Barr and Chase Reeves), an online business training program that I've participated in and talked about a little bit on this blog and on Twitter. Before working on Fizzle and embracing a life of entrepreneurship, Caleb lived amongst the cubicles… working for a large aerospace company. During that time, he actually had the difficult job of creating spreadsheets with names of people to be laid off. (Now he actually helps teach people how to quit your job, which is ironic.) Disenchanted with corporate work, Caleb founded the blog PocketChanged.com (recently re-branded as CalebWojcik.com), which led to working with Corbett Barr, the creator of ThinkTraffic.net. Think Traffic was kind enough to publish my guest post 5 Ways Copying Politicians Can Grow Your Blog earlier this year) In this episode, Caleb and I discuss: how he went from a corporate career to cubicle renegade why Caleb became an entrepreneur instead of continuing to work in the corporate world how you can quit your job to become an entrepreneur even if you have large amounts of debt the importance of connecting with other people online how Caleb was able to turn a side blog into a new job which made him much happier "By the way, it's pronounced “WAH-JICK," rhymes with “LOGIC.”
