To hear Maci Shelden talk today, you might never imagine where she was in her early 20s: playing the part, hanging out and drinking with high school and college friends, always bending over backwards for everyone, trying so hard to get it right and be a good girl. Underneath it all, she felt lonely and disconnected, like she was always pretending or putting on a show. She knew there had to be more to life than just going through the motions. And she was right! Maci has been with us at Desire on Fire since the very beginning. She was one of the participants on our very first online offering in 2018 (and has participated in many since), and is currently the student coordinator for our Inner Circle membership. In our very first in-person Desire on Fire retreat, she had a massive breakthrough that shattered her perception of herself. She also knew it would affect her new dating relationship with Tanner. She realized she was at a crossroads: Would she keep pretending like she always had, keep being the good girl she thought everyone expected? Or would she dare to be fully honest and say the thing that could end the relationship? In today's episode, Maci and Tanner give the vulnerable-sweet-sexy details about what this work has done for them, what it has allowed them to say yes to, and how a desire-led life shapes every aspect of a relationship. What you'll learn in this episode: What Maci finally admitted (out loud!) about herself at a DoF retreat The moment that shifted Maci and Tanner's relationship Sexy details of their adventures together The challenges along the way — and how they use this work daily to stay honest & connected How this level of honesty affects every aspect of their relationship Join us (and 300+ women!) in person at the Desire on Fire Experience event, October 29-30, in Southern California! www.desireonfirelive.com Code: DESIRE for $500 off the regular ticket price! A lot of people are thinking about the Civil War era these days, whether it's asking questions about whether we're in a second civil war now, or thinking about what happened during the election of 1876. In addition to our discussion of the Supreme Court, we talk about both of these things with Rachel Shelden, associate professor of history at Penn State and director of the George and Ann Richards Civil War Era Center. If it sounds like we covered a lot in this episode, it's because we did. Like any good historian, Shelden does not use her knowledge of history predict the future, but she does offer some very useful insights for how the past can help all of us frame and interpret what's happening now.Related EpisodesThe perfect storm for election disasterA brief history of "people power"Additional InformationShelden's article in the Washington PostStanford's Jonathan Gienapp on originalism and historyPenn State Richards Civil War Era Center

When I studied physics and spent time in universities, I met a lot of Nobel laureates. Physics is Nobel heavy so Columbia physics connected me to 3. Other science departments led me to another 1 or 2. The business school led me to another.Seth Shelden and ICAN---the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons---won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize "for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons"Their goal is a UN treaty like the one to ban land mines for nuclear weapons. After forming in 2007, about 2 years ago they achieved, with the help of many others, The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) is adopted at the United Nations by a vote of 122-1. The Treaty, which prohibits nuclear weapons and other nuclear explosive devices, will become law when ratified by 50 states.I wanted to bring someone on who is working on something many want but people don't see how. I hope you'll listen carefully. I picked up something I hadn't expected---a new frame for how to view nuclear weapons. It's not about the physics or engineering. I figure I know a fair amount about game theory and negotiation. While global thermonuclear war is beyond just a complex chess game, my frame still saw it that way.I disagreed with people who said nuclear weapons, through mutually assured destruction, created peace since World War II, but Seth suggested a different perspective than negotiation or brinkmanship. He doesn't look at the situation like two superpowers or even a moderate number of nuclear states. I'll let him describe it, but his view suggests different strategies than I would have come up with and makes important different players.Let's hear a new (to me at least) view on abolishing nuclear weapons. Recorded at the 2019 Civil War Institute Summer Conference on the campus of Gettysburg college, this episode features Dr. Rachel Shelden and Dr. Amy Murrell Taylor. Rachel Sheldon talked about her book Washington Brotherhood: Politics, Social Life, and the Coming of the Civil War. Shelden's book focuses on the personal relationships forged by Washington politicians during the tumultuous 1850s. While much of the country remained divided over slavery, elected officials, insulated by the fraternity-like atmosphere of Congress, failed to recognize the gravity of the secession crisis. Amy Murrell Taylor discussed her brand new book Embattled Freedom: Journeys through the Civil War's Slave Refugee Camps. Taylor's book explores the long struggle for freedom many enslaved people faced during the Civil War and the "massive dislocation" the war caused.

In 1976 law enforcement in Michigan uncovered a pedophile ring operating on North Fox Island, a privately owned property in Lake Michigan. Operating under the name “Brother Paul’s Children’s Mission” activities on North Fox Island allowed wealthy men like Dyer Grossman, Francis D. Shelden and their accomplice, Gerald Richards access to underprivileged kids who were sent to the island for a “camp experience”. This episode also uncovers a similar operation in Tennessee run by “Father Bud” and discusses the efforts of “Adam Aristotle Starchild” to assist men like Shelden in fleeing the country, and charges of sexual assault against young boys, while protecting their financial assets.

February 19, 2016 - Today’s history author, Michael Shelden, is the author of Young Titan: The Making of Winston Churchill. You may recall hearing praise for Young Titan in our interview with Simon Read, author of Winston Churchill Reporting: Adventures of a Young War Correspondent. The Greatest Briton's early life is often overlooked, with people understandably focusing on the image of him as a heroic figure, standing on the White Cliffs of Dover, shaking his fist in defiance at Hitler across the channel. But Churchill's path of destiny was not a straight one. What can the way he dealt with the many bumps and curves in the road, teach us about how to deal with adversity in our own lives? For more on the Greatest Briton life before greatness, you can also hear us catch up with Sir Winston's great-grandson, Jonathan Sandys, as he discusses the future Prime Minister's youthful sense of destiny in: God & Churchill: How the Great Leader's Sense of Divine Destiny Changed His Troubled World and Offers Hope for Ours. Simon & Schuster's History in Five every Friday. It's the perfect way to kick off your modern weekend...with people from the past.

This week we welcome Special guest Sheldon Nidle. His first extraterrestrial and UFO experiences began shortly after his birth and were highlighted all through his childhood by various modes of contact phenomena, as well as accompanying manifestations - light-form communications, extraterrestrial visitations, and teaching/learning sessions on board spacecraft. During most of his life, he has enjoyed ongoing telepathic communications and direct 'core knowledge' inserts (etheric and physical implants). Sheldan has visually observed and physically experienced spacecraft throughout the years. At fourteen, Sheldan requested that the Sirians and their Galactic Federation of Light Allies discontinue communications with him because he was experiencing overwhelming conflict between their scientific knowledge and what he was learning here on Earth. They left, but the Sirians and their Galactic Federation of Light Allies told him that they would be back when it was time to complete his mission for planet Earth and her people. In high school, he was placed in advanced science programs in subject areas such as physics, chemistry, and calculus. Sheldan received an M.A. in Political Science from the University at Buffalo in 1968. He also received an M.A. in Southeast Asian Government from Ohio University in 1970 and an M.A. in American Politics and International Public Administration from the University of Southern California, where he also pursued a Ph.D. program (1974-76). In the 1970s, he was Vice-President for Scientific Programming at Syntar Productions, where he co-created a documentary on the life and accomplishments of Nikola Tesla. From the 1970s through the mid-1980s, he was involved in scientific research on alternative sources of electrical energy. In the mid-1980s, his extraterrestrial contacts resumed. Currently, Sheldan is a representative and lecturer for the Galactic Federation of Light and, in November 1997, founded the Planetary Activation Organization (PAO).
In this episode, Paladino Joey reviews the three most recent Wolves games, in which they fared 1-2, but played very entertaining basketball, with the exception of some pretty awful defense against Indiana. Rashad McCants is finally gone, alone with virtually invisible Calvin Booth. Shelden Williams is intriguing to your T.E. host, as he was the 5th overall pick, and just 3 years into his career, bust might be too strong just yet. Bobby Brown is also intriguing, as he emerged last summer, and prides himself on defense, along with Williams who can provide defense inside. A defender inside? Haven't seen that in about 2 years.
