Is writing constantly dropping to the bottom of your to-list? Do you have a growing pile of half done projects? You may be holding on to myths about writing that are holding you back. If you’re like many women I work with, you have a list of almost-done projects: revise-and-resubmits, drafts that need to be hacked out, reviews you’ve promised. You’re trying to figure out how to get through this semester, you’re trying to plan next semester, your list of to-do’s is a mile long. “So much of our writing practice is about our beliefs about writing.” The reality is that chaos always seems to take over, and writing projects keep dropping to the bottom of the list. Part of the reason that writing projects keep getting pushed out may be because you are holding on to one or more of these 5 writing myths. So let’s break them down, and bust them with some reality checks. Myth #1: You Need Inspiration to Write I used to wait for inspiration, or to feel ‘in the mood’ to write. That went right out the window when I had my first baby. There was never a time I felt inspired, or in the mood to write. There was hardly any time to feel anything! Reality: You Need a System to Write You need a system, complete with a set of established practices, that you can rely on and go back to. A system gives your writing a rhythm, and it gives you a way to get back on the wagon if you fall off. In my Academic Women’s Writing Roadmap course we teach participants to develop and establish a writing system that works, instead of waiting around for inspiration to strike. Myth #2: You Need to Work Nights and Weekends Becoming a mom blew this idea out of the water too. Getting up before the kids to get writing done sounds good, but when your kid gets up at 4am it doesn’t really pan out. And you shouldn’t have to do this to get your work done anyway! The idea of the ‘dedicated scholar’ burning the midnight oil is a decidedly male idea (who’s feeding this guy? Where are his kids?). We need to let go of the myth that we need to work at all hours to get things done. Reality: You Need a Concrete Plan You need to plan well to corral your activities, including writing, into a reasonable work schedule. Stacking your schedule is a great way to do this. Stacking means you put like activities together on the same day, stacked on top of each other to prevent bleeding over. I made sure to put lesson planning time on the same day as office hours and meeting with grad students, all those teaching kinds of activities stack on top of each other. Myth #3: You Need Big Block of Time for Writing If you’ve ever been granted a sabbatical, or had some other event that loosened up your schedule, then you already know: having big blocks of time does not necessarily mean you get more writing done. Having the time doesn’t automatically mean you know what to do with it. And you don’t need it to be able to get the writing done. Reality: You Need to Find and Use Your Tiger Time “Tiger time” is a term coined by entrepreneur Amy Porterfield. It refers to those times when you are most focused, energetic and creative. These times will vary based on your personality, and your current life circumstances. To learn more about tiger time and how to find yours, check out Episode 2 of the podcast. You’ll get much more quality writing done during your tiger time then during (potentially non-existent) big blocks outside your tiger time. Myth #4: You’re Too Busy to Write This is not a total myth...in all likelihood, you are too busy, and should probably drop a few things off your plate. But, you are not too busy to get writing done. Reality: Your Activities Are Not Aligned Sometimes we feel even busier than we are because our activities are not in alignment. The answer is to find a focus for our careers and to align all of our activities behind that focus. In the Academic Women’s Writing Roadmap course, we walk participants through a step-by-step plan for how to align everything in their careers behind a personal academic mission statement. We teach a structure for decision-making, and how to implement a timeline for finishing or quitting projects. These steps are the key to stop feeling like you are pulled in a thousand directions, and finding the time to write. “To feel less frazzled, you need to make your activities more cohesive.” Myth #5: You Don’t Have Enough Time to Write I get it! I spent a lot of time spinning my wheels and feeling like I never had enough time. Academic women have full plates, and lots of competing demands on our time. Reality: There Are More Important Factors Than Time I’ve learned that intentional focus, pre-planning, and aligning activities are more important than the quantity of time you have. I’ve learned how to manage these things through trial-and-error, but you don’t have to! You can go from freaked out to 5-year plan with me. We teach time management, focus, planning, and mindset in The Academic Women’s Writing Roadmap program. Registration opens May 1st! Laurie is our guest again, and we cover how Heartland Bank can help you, as a sole-proprietor or self-employed, with the process of applying for the Paycheck Protection Program. The CARES Act established a new $349 billion Paycheck Protection Program. The Program is providing much-needed relief to millions of small businesses so they can sustain their businesses and keep their workers employed. Starting April 10, 2020, independent contractors and self-employed individuals can apply for and receive loans to cover their payroll and other certain expenses through existing SBA lenders. What can you use these loans for? You should use the proceeds from these loans on your: Payroll costs, including benefits Interest on mortgage obligations, incurred before February 15, 2020 Rent, under lease agreements in force before February 15, 2020 Utilities, for which service began before February 15, 2020 Laurie covers some of the details, the loan terms and conditions, that include... Eligible businesses Maximum loan amount up to $10 million All loans under this program will have the following identical features: Interest rate of 1.0% Maturity of 2 years First payment deferred for six months 100% guarantee by SBA No collateral No personal guarantees No borrower or lender fees payable to SBA Currently, Heartland Bank is working with businesses and getting approvals in 48 hours. We encourage any and all self-employed to take a look at this program and re-evaluate your situation if you thought this is not for you. One of the most common questions we hear is "How much of my loan will be forgiven?". You will owe money when your loan is due if you use the loan amount for anything other than payroll costs, mortgage interest, rent, and utilities payments over the 8 weeks after getting the loan. Due to likely high subscription, it is anticipated that not more than 25% of the forgiven amount may be for non-payroll costs. Some tips before starting the process... At Shanghai Disney Resort, the castle displayed words of thanks projected on it. In Hong Kong, the Disneyland Ambassador Melody shared a sign of appreciation, Tokyo Disney Resort shared images from inside the parks for inspiration. Former CEO Bob Iger suggested in an interview with Barron’s that the parks would be a place that people need to feel like some form of normalcy has returned. In that case, guests have to feel safe in the parks, so adding something like temperature screenings, like they do bag screenings now could be a possibility. The following is a spoiler if you have not watched Avengers Infinity War. The reason for it not being in canon is that characters that were sacrificed during Thano’s snap in the movie will be present, even though in the cinematic universe they are wiped out of the universe. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/04/avengers-campus-to-not-be-canon-with-marvel-cinematic-universe-the-snap-never-happened-in-theme-park-land/For guests missing the Easter egg hunts in the parks this year, shopDisney is stepping in to help! If you’re a collector of courses, then what you need is this 30-day challenge group in your life. Gavin Timms and I have done this before and it was hugely successful for our previous coaching students, so we wanted to offer it up at a time when everyone has a lot more time on their hands. Starting April 13th, jump in with us and start making offers. Gavin and I are going to be teaching you, with simple, easy scripts, how to make offers on the phone. We’re going to teach you marketing tactics that work. Gavin and I even role play a couple of scripts to show you how easy this can be. We’re going to be teaching you the fastest way to get leads, using cold calling and SMS texting. We’re not going to overcomplicate this with VAs and fancy, complicated triple dialers, although you can use those things if you want. The challenge group will offer daily support the first week, and then coaching calls three times a week after that. Plus, you’ll have access to a private Facebook group where you can show up with your offers and lean on us for support all month long. We don’t want to complicate this because we are challenging you to make five offers a day. So in this challenge, we’re going to teach the easy way to make offers so that you can make more of them more often. And here’s the thing. If you get a deal under contract, we’ll partner with you on it, or help you find a buyer. We want you to succeed, and this group is going to give you the support you need to stop taking courses and start making deals. And if you complete everything in the course, you’ll get your money back. There’s only winning in our 30-day challenge group. Next, Soul Calibur VI just launched new DLC Character Haohmaru [how-maru], who you might recognize from the Saumurai Shodown series. This is going to be Part IV of our Q&A on COVID-19. And we're going to talk specifically a little bit about the FFCRA (Families First Coronavirus Response Act). Since the last podcast episode, this is past. It's a law that provides many provisions, but some of them are things like, paid sick leave and paid emergency family leave for those employees. The question we're going to be addressing is, "If I lay off an employee, do I have to pay this new sick leave and when does that kick in?". We're also going to talk about the differences between a "layoff" and a "furlough" as that seems to be coming up quite a bit in our chats. Before we go too deep, please subscribe to our podcast. If you can find us on iTunes, Google podcast, Spotify, Stitcher, any pod catcher of your choice makes a huge difference. You can also subscribe at peopleprocesses.com. If you're on there right now, where you go there, a little pop up will show up. It's also in the top right. We have tons of exclusive subscriber only content, like our entire coronavirus kit, where we have sample communications with employees, how to communicate a furlough, how to talk about salary reduction, how to do telework and get people to utilize that and not necessarily take the leave. Those are all addressed in our policies. So please subscribe there. Okay. Here's what you need to know. Starting April 1, 2020, which is when this podcast comes out. The Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA) is a federal law that will require employers to facilitate two major changes. Under the law, employees must be given: 1. Up to two weeks of emergency paid leave (EPSL) for illness, quarantine or school closures and; 2. Up to 12 weeks during which the first two weeks are unpaid. So another 10 weeks for care for children during school closures related to COVID-19, most of which must be paid as well. There are a few exceptions to both of those. This is not going to be an in -depth on the FFCRA. There's tons of information about that on our website. And again, for our subscribers. This is the question, Do we still have to provide the Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) or Emergency Family Leave (EFMLA) if we lay off or furlough our employees? And the answer is, If you've laid off (ended the employment relationship), they are no longer employees. So these leaves are not going to apply. Workers who are still employed by you but not currently working any hours due to a business slowdown or shelter-in-place order are basically a furlough versus termination, they would also not qualify. The leave may only be used when an employee is unable to work because of the reasons listed in the law (their own sickness, a family member sickness, or school daycare closures). An employee who has already been put on a furlough is unable to work because you have nothing for them to do, either because business slowed down or the government has required closure. That's different than if they can't come in because they are sick or under a government order themselves. For quarantine government orders normally a medical order in the case of an employee. You gotta be cautious, though, not to base layoff or furlough decisions on the employees' potential need for leave, as this can constitute unlawful retaliation or interference with their rights under the law. So you can't put people on furlough because you think they're the ones who are going to take the leave. You put people on furlough, because you don't have work for them to do. Does that make sense? Same with termination. Remember, the government is going to fully fund these leaves through a payroll tax credit. If you don't have the funds available to cover the leaves until tax time, then you may use your payroll tax set aside to fund them. You still don't have enough, you can apply for an advance from the IRS. And as of Friday, March 27, a whole new law is passed where...
Believe me — Laurelton, Missouri was not where I’d planned to spend my summer vacation. But, as they usually do, things changed. I found myself living with my aunt, Mara, and working part-time at a women’s clothing boutique on the quaint and picturesque town square. I liked my job — I even made some new friends. The only not-so-great thing was the ghosts. Why was I the only one who could see them? Were they trying to warn me about something? About the dark, mysterious power I could feel radiating from the creepy old Masonic Lodge, orphanage, asylum and winery on the hill? I’m Jaden, the host of Small Town Spirits. This exclusive content is available through the Straight-Up Enigmas podcast feed. Starting April 14th, find all our spooky tales about the ghosts of Laurelton by searching Straight Up Enigmas on your favorite podcast app. Industrial Music Box by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100812 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

Resources TechFreedom News Roundup Amidst COVID-19 epidemic, carriers challenged to balance network demands against providing needed access With millions of Americans now either working remotely or using the internet while they’re unemployed, the nation’s Internet Service Providers – or should I say, their workers—are working overtime to keep the networks going and traffic flowing freely online in order to meet demand. Edge providers like Disney and Netflix have cut bandwidth in Europe after regulators there stepped in and, here in the U.S., the Federal Communications Commission has opened additional spectrum for the carriers. The FCC has also relaxed a rule that prohibited carriers from gifting services to E-Rate subsidy recipients like schools and hospitals. Of specific concern to policymakers are rural residents without access who are unable to take advantage of remote healthcare options via high speed broadband. But the FCC has, up until now, lacked robust data regarding internet access in rural areas -- President Trump signed the Broadband DATA Act earlier this week, which will address some of the data challenges. But advocates like Matt Wood at Free Press are also pushing for better pricing regulations, an issue that affects both urban and rural areas, he told Gizmodo, as the average price of internet service in the United States surpasses that of countries like Russia, China, and Syria. Carriers’ responses to the increased demand brought on by coronavirus and relative high price of broadband have varied. In New York City, for example, Chalkbeat reported that ISPs that serve the area, including Charter and Optimum, have denied access to families with delinquent accounts, even if their children need an internet connection to participate in remote instruction while their schools are closed. Verizon, on the other hand, is offering free Fios and wireless service so customers who have been ordered to shelter in place can access entertainment and educational programming. Starting April 1, Verizon will also grant new customers access to its premium tier of movie channels, like HBO and Showtime, free for 30 days. Resilience of gig market tested Turning to the gig market … As you probably already know the number of Americans filing new unemployment claims reached an astonishing 3.3 million last week, the highest weekly unemployment rate ever, by a long shot. Previously, the worst weekly unemployment rate happened in 1982, when weekly jobless claims once hit 695,000 — still well under a million. But gig workers are being hit particularly hard, such as Uber and Lyft drivers faced with decreased demand for car service. And gig workers overall, who receive fewer employment perks and pay than full-timers working from home, have been laid off and, if they are 1099 independent contractors, aren’t able to claim unemployment insurance. When we look to corporate actors, there are good actors and some not so good. Google, for example, announced that it would extend the contracts of its temporary workforce by 60-days. The company is also investing $800 million in programs to help Small and Mid-sized businesses working to address the COVID-19 epidemic. Uber and Lyft on the other hand, according to the New York Times, have been promoting a California ballot initiative that would undue legislation signed into law there last year which would entitle workers whose work is controlled by their employers, like Uber and Lyft drivers, to qualify as employees, irrespective of whether they are W-2 or 1099 workers. The $2 trillion stimulus bill the president signed into law on Friday extends unemployment benefits to gig workers. However, advocates see this as only a band-aid—once it falls off, then what? Lacking health insurance, once Uber driver reportedly died from COVID-19 after he was exposed to a sick passenger. Turning to the ISPs, Charter isn’t giving bonus pay to workers who expose themselves to the coronavirus when they enter customers’ homes. What they are giving them though is a $25 restaurant gift card – no soap to wash their hands before they eat, though. That’s in the restaurant bathroom already. Twitter deletes Federalist post calling for mass coronavirus infection Twitter deleted a post from the Federalist, the right-wing website, for retweeting a post by a fake dermatologist who’d been advocating for mass exposure to the coronavirus. Twitter also temporarily blocked the account. FBI warns of fake CDC emails regarding COVID-19 The FBI warned the public about cybercriminals exploiting the coronavirus epidemic by sending fake emails that appear to be coming from the Centers for Disease Control or other healthcare organizations. So be careful to check and double check not just the From field, but also the meta data to determine exactly who the email is coming from before you open it. If you’ve subscribed to newsletters from healthcare organizations, you can also filter them to a separate folder automatically so that anything appearing to be from them in the regular inbox looks suspicious by default when you’re reviewing your messages.

It has been decided by the leadership group of Film Photography Podcasts that we have been spinning our wheels trying to compete against each other. As a result, we are ending The Homemade Camera Podcast and joining forces with our fellow podcasters to create the new CFNSLSP: The press release: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Announcing the formation of the Classic Film Negatives Sunny Lensless Studio Podcast Dear listeners, Film photography podcasts have exploded in number and we, the undisputed, established names in this niche have decided it is time to take action. The collective burden of generating fresh, creative content week-on-week in order to satiate the community lust for "all things analog" is not sustainable. We are putting our hands up to say yes, we have occasionally scraped the bottom of the barrel for content and should—no—must be better . In March 2019 our leadership came together to debate how we could collaborate in the interests of our listenership and the wider film and analog photography community. After heated deliberation, we settled on a single and universally effective solution: We should create a monopoly. Starting April 2019, our individual podcasts will be merging into a single community mammoth: The Classic Film Negatives Sunny Lensless Studio Podcast (CFNSLSP). A single podcast with over a dozen hosts and a new episode nearly every single day of the week will be providing you with: Camera reviews, classic lens reviews, industry insight, chatter, interviews, and competitions ...to name a few. Understanding that photography is not everything, we will also have special focus events covering adult beverages, classic timepieces, and lifestyle tips. No longer will you need to create playlists for your analogue photography podcast needs. A single voice will be able to provide you with all you need to, or in fact, should know. In the words of Russell Nash, "there can be only one". Further details to follow. In the interim, please remove yourself from this group and join the newly created "Classic Film Negatives Sunny Lensless Studio Podcast Facebook Group": https://www.facebook.com/groups/CFNSLSP. The first episode will be hosted by the kind folks over at CLP! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal listeners for their patronage and hope to see you join the CFNSLSP family. Sincerely,

This show is a long form one on one interview with 20 year veteran Elite Trail Runner and environmentalist, Debbie Livingston. We could spend an entire episode discussing just the races that she has won. We could spend another episode discussing how to raise a fit and healthy family and getting them involved with trails and endurance sport. Or we could spend a few hours discussing the Cult of Ultra Culture and how it has changed in the last 20 years. That would still leave Yoga, coaching, trail advocacy, women’s rights, pregnancy and running, race directing, environmental issues, and a review of the most epic mountain trail routes in the North East. Today’s show is kind of a sampler of these things. The CULTRA trail running podcast is a place where we can get together and discuss all the fun stuff that happens on the trails, that most normal people don’t care about. CULTRA’s headquarters is located in the belly of the beast coast, Glastonbury Connecticut, so most of our stories involve North East Trail running or North East Trail runners. The language used in this show is NOT explicit and raw so feel free to listen to this with your kids, or at work, and the only likely way you could be offended is if a little vegan talk upsets you, and if that’s the case, and your not open to discussing things that make you uncomfortable, then you most likely have other bigger issues to deal with in your life. At any rate feel free to swear at us if you need too. We don’t have sponsors at this point, instead we like to recognize the folks that support us. The Shenipsit Striders are a Connecticut running club and a crucial thread in the fabric of the North East Trail Running Scene. They put on the Nipmuck Trail Marathon, which just celebrated 35 years, as well as a bunch of low cost, grass roots trail running events. Check them out! We're excited to finally tell you all about the changes we've been working on for the last few months! After listening, be sure to leave your comments at http://thedrewreviews.com/podcast/genrevision-announcement. To summarize: Starting April 29, the name of our podcast will change to GenreVision! Our website URL will change to GenreVision.com, too. This will not affect your subscriptions. GenreVision.com will be a home to more than just one podcast. We want to host more content, and a wider variety of content. We're adding a new podcast to the site this summer. Do you want to know more? Click here! We're seriously considering offering a low-cost premium subscription. The show will remain free to download every week! However, we are considering archiving the show's oldest episodes, and making them available to premium subscribers only. We also want to make exclusive new content for premium subscribers. We won't be updating our Facebook page anymore. Trying to effectively promote your page on Facebook is expensive, and we don't want to give any money to them. Also, Facebook is an ethical nightmare.
Today we talk about how to be a good person and why so many people aren't. Starting April 1st I'm challenging everyone to do one good deed each and every single day. When you do, post your good deed on your social media with #gooddeedschallenge
