7/15/25 - Power Plays: Confronting Marxism in America

    Mark Levin Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 16, 2025 111:49

On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, the new word the Marxists are using to justify the fundamental transformation of America is affordability.  Marxist regimes produce shortages, impoverishment, and dislocation—not prosperity. This is equality in destitution, enforced by coercion and a police state. New York is expensive due to soft-Marxism: rent controls, high taxes, smothering regulations, powerful unions. It will depopulate workers and businesses, attracting destitute, welfare recipients, and illegal aliens. As unlivable, Marxist grip tightens with unhinged rhetoric. Marxism is failed, inhumane, evil, attracting demagogues like Zohran Mamdani, akin to young Fidel Castro claiming democracy.  Over time, the tension between institutional constraints and self-aggrandizement erodes safeguards, turning them into facades that enable soft negative power. The result is authoritarian democracy, which is what Mamdani is promoting. Also, wealth redistribution is destructive to wealth creation, as it discourages producers who may reduce output, stop, or relocate (e.g., fleeing New York City), leaving less to redistribute. It's a flawed idea requiring surrender of individual liberty to inexperienced ideologues, historically causing mass starvation and death. True equality means just laws for all, not unattainable economic equality . Instead, we should celebrate freedom and capitalism, enabling ordinary Americans—like plumbers or drivers—to enjoy abundant choices and live better than past kings, while government represents socialism and individuals embody capitalism. Success, once valued, is now undermined by DEI. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The battle for the Democratic nomination to run for the Mayor of New York City came down to a despised Italian Zionist wanted for serial murder, and a 33-year-old Muslim Socialist who used to be a rap producer, sort of. The kid with the dumb ideas won the race, and New York City is about to become a sociological experiment in mismanagement and magical thinking. Five city-owned and operated grocery stores will soon be springing up in Manhattan to sling government cheese and whatever else is covered by food stamps. Police are being reassigned away from mental health cases, and those dangerous lunatics are being turned over to unarmed civilian counselors who will be stationed across 100 subway platforms across town. Today's Headlines:  June's inflation rose by 0.3%, putting the annual rate at 2.7%—slightly up, but still within forecasts. Meanwhile, House Republicans voted down Democratic efforts to release Epstein case documents, despite GOP leaders publicly claiming to support transparency. Trump praised AG Pam Bondi's handling of the Epstein files while denying any link to the case, but new metadata shows nearly 3 minutes are missing from recently released prison footage. A lawyer for Epstein's victims claimed there's far more unreleased evidence, including thousands of hours of video. ICE has issued a new memo eliminating bond hearings for undocumented immigrants already living in the U.S., affecting millions. A federal grand jury indicted Vance Boelter for the politically motivated killing of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman. Two people died after record-setting flash floods hit NYC and New Jersey, where over two inches of rain fell in one hour. The DOJ appealed a ruling halting race-based immigration arrests in California, and Missouri's Republican AG is threatening OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Microsoft with legal action after a blog claimed an AI ranked Trump worst on antisemitism—despite Microsoft's bot refusing to rank the presidents at all. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four Tuesday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Trump's Tariffs Paying Off The economic impact of Trump-era tariffs, with the hosts highlighting a rare federal budget surplus in June 2025. They argue that despite media narratives, tariffs have not triggered significant inflation and instead have generated substantial revenue. The conversation also critiques Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for high interest rates, which they claim have frozen the housing market and stifled economic growth. The hosts advocate for rate cuts to stimulate recovery, pointing to record-high stock market performance and strong job growth under Trump’s second term. Gov. Gavin Salesman Clay and Buck analyze California Governor Gavin Newsom’s national ambitions, suggesting he is positioning himself as a frontrunner for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. They critique Newsom’s evasive responses on controversial issues like transgender policies and youth gender surgeries, portraying him as a polished but insubstantial figure who avoids taking firm stances. The discussion frames Newsom as emblematic of a Democratic strategy that relies on charm and ambiguity rather than policy clarity. Illegal Immigration Realities Deep dive into the pressing issues surrounding illegal immigration, border security, and the economic impact of immigration policies in the United States. The hosts open with a discussion on the controversial “Alligator Alcatraz” ICE facility near the Everglades, using it as a springboard to critique the media’s portrayal of immigration enforcement and the emotional narratives often used by the political left. A major theme throughout this hour is the economic burden of illegal immigration, with Clay and Buck arguing that the influx of undocumented migrants contributes to rising housing costs, overcrowded emergency rooms, and inflated hotel prices—particularly in cities like New York City. They highlight how Airbnb regulations and the use of hotels to house migrants have disrupted local markets, driving up costs for everyday Americans. Can You Believe This Question? Media bias and cultural influence, particularly in sports journalism. Clay and Buck react to a viral moment from the MLB All-Star Game press conference, where a reporter from Defector confronted MLB officials over Georgia’s voting laws. Clay and Buck criticize what they call “agenda journalism” and highlight the irony of punishing Atlanta—a majority Black city—for state-level legislation. As of now, abortion remains broadly legal in more than 30 states and Washington, D.C. In some, like Kansas, Missouri and Montana, abortion is still legal largely because of voters. But while Trump spent a lot of time on the campaign trail trying to avoid the topic of abortion, his new tax and spending law proves that the GOP has stayed laser focused on restricting the rights of everyday Americans. It contains a provision that prevents health care nonprofits like Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion care provider, from receiving Medicaid reimbursements for one year for ANY services – even those not related to abortion. Mary Ziegler, a professor at UC Davis School of Law who focuses on the history and politics of reproduction, healthcare and conservatism, explains how the new law could limit your ability to access health care and threaten Planned Parenthood. And in headlines: Trump announced the U.S. will send Patriot missiles to Ukraine, a bunch of states sued the Trump administration for withholding money for after-school care and English language programs, and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced he'll stay in the race to be New York City's next mayor.Show Notes:Check out Mary's work – workstatecourtreport.org/about/mary-zieglerCall Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

Drew has the hiccups again. Scott Burnstein has the answer to who killed Jimmy Hoffa. The Big Dumper, Cal Raleigh, won the MLB 2025 Home Run Derby. He totally predicted it when he was 8-years-old. Diddy is doing the work in prison. He's in therapy to avoid a long sentence. Beyoncé is flying again. Some of her crap was stolen from her dancer's car. Dentist James Craig is a terrible husband and probably a bad dentist. “Blackface” ruined Holden Hughes. It was actually Greenface, so he sued. Britney Spears rants like a mad woman. We watch Britney off her meds. Jessica Alba has a new man. She's extremely rich, btw. Sydney Sweeney's boobs are launching a lingerie line. Jeff Bezos is funding it. Blake Lively is targeting YouTubers. Richard Dreyfuss is dying ASAP… or he didn't want to go to the Jaws convention. Wolfgang Van Halen is probably the dude that angered Sharon Osbourne. It's not Motley Crue according to Motley Crue. Karl from WATP drops by to rip StutJo a little more, destroy Lena Dunham on the Girls Rewatch Podcast, make fun of Gregg ‘Opie' Hughes and more. Only 40 tickets remain for the LIVE WATP show with us and Dave Landau. Andy Green is still touring NYC. Trudi calls out the ‘Gen Z Stare'. Rob Wolchek drops another stellar Hall of Shame. The Emmy nominations dropped. Jared Goff's wife popped out their first kid. Drew Crime: Former MLB pitcher Dan Serafini found guilty of murdering his in-laws. An American Idol professional was murdered. Republicans are blocking Jeffrey Epstein information from being released. Kevin Spacey wants the files out now. The Lufthansa CEO's wife hit and killed a woman. A 114-year-old has died… of a hit and run! Billy McFarland is the worst. He sold the Fyre brand for a measly $245K. Drew is obsessed with some turd film named Parthenope. Drew does not recommend it. Just two weeks ago, New Yorkers voted en masse for a self-proclaimed socialist—someone who once called for “seizing the means of production.” This is, of course, Zohran Mamdani, who dominated in the Democratic primary for New York City mayor with a definitive victory over Andrew Cuomo. He has called for rent freezes, free buses, and even government-run grocery stores. He won 56 percent of the vote in a campaign fueled by young, highly educated, wealthy people—many of whom believe in reviving socialism here in America, in 2025. According to a Cato Institute poll from May: 62 percent of Americans age 18 to 29 say they hold a “favorable view” of socialism. And 34 percent had a positive view of communism. Polls by Emerson and Marist from May and June had shown Mamdani leading with voters under 45 by as much as a 2:1 ratio against the former governor. This phenomenon has left many people wondering: Why are so many young people embracing a failed economic system? Is it their university education? Is it the influence of social media? Is it just “cool”? Is it a desperate call for anything to fix wealth inequality? Or is it something else? Here to help us understand are Tyler Cowen and Kyla Scanlon. Tyler Cowen is an economist and Free Press columnist who just wrote an important essay for us called “Why Won't Socialism Die?” Kyla Scanlon is a writer, economic commentator, and educator—and, importantly for this conversation, a member of Gen Z. She is 28, and her new book is In This Economy? How Money & Markets Really Work. This conversation was originally a Free Press livestream—and you'll hear throughout this conversation that I take lots of questions from people who joined us live. It's Thanksgiving day and Chris is heading over to his parents house for Thanksgiving with his 2 kids and he's feeling pretty sad cuz his wife is dead. His daughter Sophie seems totally fine with the fact that her mom is dead though, so that's good. They turn on the Thanksgiving football game and guess who's singing the national anthem? Nikki Crandon! Chris comes in and sees her on tv and gets weird. Sophie really wants to go see the Nikki Crandon Christmas concert on Christmas Eve  and everyone is weird about it so Sophie is like what the heck? He finally tells the truth - they went to high school with Nikki and she was his first love. And it's pretty clear he still has feelings for her. So the kids decide that they're going to sneak off to NYC for a meet and greet and tell her that their dad is still in love with her. At first, Sophie fumbles the opportunity but she turns around on her way out and belts out MY DAD IS CHRIS MARSHALL AND HE IS STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU! Nikki decides to give the kids a ride home and goes to say hi to Chris. And at first, he fumbles the opportunity (like father, like daughter). But before she drives off, he runs out and asks to get dinner. So the next day, she shows up to his basketball game and they go get a burger and it's going fine. The night ends with her asking him why he left her and he said he didn't wanna get in the way of her career taking off. Good enough for her and they kiss big ones. The next day, this picture is everywhere. Her manager wants her to call it off but she's not having it. Chris calls her and they agree to get dinner at a 5 star resteraunt. The dinner does not go well. First, the record exec shows up and gives him a wad of cash. Then when she's in the restroom, her movie star ex-boyfriend shows up. Chris realizes, once again, that he's just not right for her and her career, so he leaves. She shows up to his house and gives them tickets to her Christmas eve shows. He says they're not gonna go but after a pep talk from his mom, they all show up. He sneaks back stage and after the show, he gets on stage and professes his love. She comes back on stage and they kiss big ones and he asks if she wants to go steady. They kiss some more as the crowd cheers.

Join Jim and Greg for Tuesday's 3 Martini Lunch, as they examine an encouraging new poll about stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons, a disturbing one about how many Americans still believe Trump colluded with Russia in 2016, and Andrew Cuomo restarting his campaign for New York City mayor after getting crushed in the Democratic primary.First, they welcome a new Harvard-Harris poll showing 80 percent of Americans believe the U.S. should do whatever is necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, including 93 percent of Republicans, 75 percent of independents, and 71 percent of Democrats. But there's an interesting twist when voters are asked about the recent U.S. strikes against Iran.Next, they shake their heads at a new Rasmussen survey showing 60 percent of Democrats still believe Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign, despite the Mueller Report and volumes of reporting showing otherwise. But it's not just Dems. There are still absurd numbers of moderates and conservatives who believe the same thing. Finally, after being soundly rejected by voters in the New York City Democratic primary, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo concludes the people really do want him so he will continue his campaign as a third-party candidate. Cuomo also says the non-Mamdani candidates should unite around whoever is running strongest among them by early September. Self proclaimed Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani meeting with New York City's leading CEOs who employ thousands at some of the world's biggest companies, such as JPMorgan and Pfizer. Business owners in New York are very concerned about Mamdani's anti-capitalist policies including increasing taxes on the rich to pay for housing rent freezes, free public transit and city run grocery stores. This a day after former Governor Andrew Cuomo says he will be staying in the race despite losing to Mamdani in the primary by a double digit margin. Fox's John Saucier speaks to Bryan Llenas, National Correspondent for FOX News Channel (FNC) based in New York, who says besides the concerns of business owners there are Jewish leaders also sounding the alarm over the candidate's use of the phrase 'globalize the intifada'. Andrew Cuomo is still trying to matter. That's the clearest takeaway from his latest appearance — a campaign reboot so empty and unconvincing it bordered on parody. After blowing a 60-point lead in the Democratic primary for New York City mayor to Zohran Mamdani, Cuomo continues to operate as if he didn't just have — and squander — his best shot. It wasn't a close race. It wasn't an upset. It was a humiliation, and it made Mamdani a star. Cuomo didn't just lose; he handed the spotlight to the person who beat him. What's most baffling is Cuomo's unwillingness to run as anything other than himself. His latest ad is a watered-down version of Mamdani's campaign. Mamdani talked to people across the city about affordability — and even if his ideas were divisive, they were ideas. Cuomo's pitch? Affordability. No vision. No contrast. Just a stale echo of a message he neither originated nor sharpened. If Cuomo wanted to offer something Mamdani couldn't, he had options. He could've leaned into public safety, into the fear felt by many New Yorkers. He could've campaigned from a synagogue, framed himself as the candidate who would safeguard Jewish communities, and tied Mamdani to the left wing of the party in a way that forced a choice. Instead, we got nothing.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. There's no attack line, no clear point of differentiation. Cuomo could've said: this is de Blasio 2.0. He could've framed Mamdani as a performance artist backed by a failed administration. He didn't. Instead, he gave voters a lifeless, mimicry-driven campaign with no policy edge. And that brings us to what he is actually running on: his name. For a sliver of voters — the “Cuomosexuals” who liked Mario, liked Andrew, maybe even liked Chris — that might be enough. But for everyone else, Cuomo looks like a man clinging to a legacy that no longer serves him. This also highlights why “Stop ‘X' Candidate” movements almost never work. Ego ruins coordination. Eric Adams isn't dropping out — he's the sitting mayor. Cuomo still acts like running is beneath him. Curtis Sliwa isn't a serious enough contender to pull votes in a general election. And despite the specter of Mamdani's ideology frightening national Democrats, no consensus candidate has emerged. If there were a moderate Republican hedge fund type — pro-choice, socially liberal — that person could shake things up. But they don't exist here. Not this cycle.Ultimately, national Republicans are thrilled. They see Mamdani as a gift. Mike Johnson and Donald Trump will seize on his victory to cast New York as the face of socialism in America — a symbol of excess, decline, and failed progressivism. It's a setup for the midterms. They're ready to prey on any misstep, real or imagined. And unless something changes fast, the ‘Stop Zohran' movement isn't materializing. Not because it couldn't — but because no one in the race knows how to make it happen. Cuomo had his chance. He whiffed.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:02:37 - Cuomo Stays in NYC Race00:11:36 - Update00:12:05 - Inflation Report00:15:26 - Recissions Package00:18:45 - Israel00:19:55 - Interview with Emily Jashinsky00:59:15 - Wrap-up This is a public episode.
