On episode 9 of the CS Sports Talk, Shawn and Lily preview the Super Bowl! On Sunday, February 11th the Chiefs and 49ers are competing again! Comment below who you think will win and your score predictions! The world of sports and the realm of business, at first glance, might seem worlds apart. Yet, upon closer examination, they share a surprising number of parallels. The core principles that drive success in sports – teamwork, strategy, persistence, and adaptability – are equally applicable and essential in the business environment. Understanding and leveraging these connections can be a game-changer for business leaders and entrepreneurs.Teamwork: The Foundation of SuccessIn sports, the importance of teamwork is evident. A football team, for instance, relies on the coordinated efforts of each player to win games. Similarly, in business, success is seldom the result of solo efforts. It hinges on the ability of individuals to work together towards a common goal. Effective teamwork in the business world involves diverse talents and skills coming together, much like a sports team where different positions and roles are crucial for overall success.Strategy: Planning for VictoryEvery successful sports coach knows the importance of a well-thought-out game plan. This strategy is based on understanding the team's strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of the competition. In business, strategic planning is equally crucial. A business without a strategy is like a ship without a rudder, drifting aimlessly. Successful entrepreneurs and business leaders meticulously plan their moves, anticipate market trends, and understand their competitors, much like a chess player or a football coach devising a winning strategy.Persistence and Resilience: Overcoming ChallengesSports teach us about the power of persistence and resilience. Athletes often face setbacks and defeats but the key to their success lies in how they respond to these challenges. This lesson is invaluable in the business world. Businesses inevitably encounter obstacles and failures. The resilience to bounce back, learn from mistakes, and keep pushing forward is what separates successful businesses from the rest.Adaptability: Playing to the Changing EnvironmentIn sports, conditions can change rapidly – weather, injuries, or even the unexpected performance of an opponent. Successful athletes and teams are those that can adapt quickly to these changes. Similarly, the business world is in a constant state of flux. Market conditions, consumer preferences, and technological advancements change rapidly. Businesses that thrive are those that are agile and adaptable, able to pivot strategies and operations in response to changing circumstances.Leadership: Guiding the Team to SuccessGreat sports teams have great leaders, either in the form of a captain on the field or a coach on the sidelines. These leaders inspire, motivate, and guide their teams to achieve their best. The same holds true in business. Effective leadership is pivotal. Business leaders must inspire their teams, set clear goals, provide direction, and create an environment where employees can thrive and contribute to the company's success.Continuous Improvement: Striving for ExcellenceIn sports, the pursuit of excellence is a never-ending process. Athletes continually train and improve their skills. In the business world, this concept translates to continuous improvement in products, services, and processes. Successful businesses never settle; they are always looking for ways to innovate and enhance their offerings.ConclusionThe parallels between sports and business are both profound and instructive.

This week, we're taking the Stay or Go episode from a couple of week ago to the next step and we're talking about partnering with your client to develop an exit strategy. This means helping them gather the information they need and develop action plans to remove the fear and uncertainty around when and how to divorce. Fear is not only the obstacle that keeps individuals stuck in unhealthy, unhappy marriages unable to make decisions or take action, but it's also the #1 driver of cost and conflict in divorce.Debra shares the results of an informal survey she did that showed that only 20% of respondents believed they had some or significant control over either the cost or the outcome of their divorce. We know clients have much more influence - they just need information and a strategy.Failing to prepare thoughtfully when considering divorce can start things off in a way that quickly snowballs out of control. On the other hand, taking time, being strategic and establishing goals and priorities can pave the way for a good divorce if things go well. And it can protect clients in the event that things go poorly. We'll review the 5 reasons an Exit Strategy (or divorce plan) is so incredibly helpful for clients and talk through some of the important elements of a solid plan. When we help clients identify and address their fears, our clients get a better outcome financially, relationally and emotionally.Learn more about DCA™ or any of the classes or events mentioned in this episode at the links below:Website: www.divorcecoachesacademy.comInstagram: www.instagram.com/divorcecoachesacademyLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/divorce-coaches-academyEmail: DCA@divorcecoachesacademy.com

In today's episode, Ashanti Bentil-Dhue interviews Tutu Popoola the lead consultant and director of Slick HR, a consultancy dedicated to building diverse teams for business success. As an industry leader, Tutu helps companies navigate through the intricacies of diversity and inclusion, acknowledging the distinct separation between DI and HR, and the need to address both in the corporate world. She sheds light on her evolution from an HR consultancy to a DEI-centric service provider, a change brought about by client needs and market trends. Tutu shares her experiences and expertise, highlighting the types of clients she works with, the challenges they face, and the progress made within industries towards inclusive workplaces and diversified leadership. “So how can I work to influence people in a certain way, and also understand that I will not necessarily own the outcome of whatever work I do with them. So I had to be okay with that. If my work involves consulting with them, pointing them in the right direction, guiding them gently, sometimes giving them a bit of a push, and saying, Oh, no, this has to definitely happen. But also understanding that it's not about me, when you're doing this work, you have to separate your personal ego from the work that you're doing. It can't be led by the ego level as well. And really listening to people in terms of what they're saying, and what they're not saying, I think is really important. And also when you listen, then you question when somebody makes a comment or a statement. And then you can say what do you mean by that? I need you to tell me what your understanding of that situation is.. ” Episode Highlights: ● Improving the talent pipeline and retention of talent ● Recruitment is a sticking point in diversity and inclusion ● How to become a Ggi practitioner About Tutu Popoola : Bio: Tutu Popoola is the Managing Director of Sleek HR, an outsourced consultancy enabling organisations to create HR & DEI solutions for business success. On his return visit to Managing Marketing, we discuss the role of strategy in marketing and why strategy is more important for marketers than ever before. If you listen to industry conversations, strategy plays an important part in marketing. Most marketing organisations will be either developing their marketing strategy, reviewing it, updating it, or finessing it. So, if strategy is essential, why is there also much talk of the role of tactics over strategy? Projjal founded OnLoop in 2020 to create a category called Collaborative Team Development (CTD) to fundamentally reinvent how hybrid teams are assessed and developed. This was after over a decade of frustration with clunky, traditional enterprise performance management and learning processes and tools that were either hated or ignored by his teams at companies like Uber and Accenture where he spent many years. He is now dedicated to his lifelong mission of unleashing the full potential of the world's 1 billion knowledge workers.Prior to founding OnLoop, Projjal spent three and a half years at Uber in a variety of roles including leading Strategy & Operations for Business Development globally, leading Strategy & Planning for the APAC rides business, and GM of the Philippines rides business. Besides Uber, he also spent some time raising debt and equity from New York hedge funds for an industrials conglomerate (Essar), in strategy consulting in South East Asia (Accenture), and in early-stage companies in Latin America (BlueKite, El Market) before that. Somewhere along the way he spent 2 years at Stanford (GSB), getting an MBA. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Projjal Ghatak discuss:Collaborative team developmentHow Onloop's platform collects significantly more disparate data points to get a full understanding of an employeeThe importance of having good dataBalancing technology with face-to-face feedback Key Takeaways:Efforts to analyze and develop hybrid teams will be more forward-looking through collaborative team development than performance management, which focuses on the backward process.Unlike other platforms, Onloop's platforms don't prescribe how bonuses should be decided for individuals; what they recommend is how much data should be collected at the end of a quarter and semester, and how to use that data to analyze someone's achievements across targets, projects, and skills. You cannot measure the amount of money you are investing in developing the same way a hedge fund does if you think of people as assets. We can do a lot more to ensure that the right capital is being used in the right place, but that starts with a foundation of good data.Generative AI makes writing good feedback easier, but there is a different quality of relationship that happens when we sit down and have a live conversation. It's really all about the conversation. “Put yourself out there before an opportunity arises,” explains Sahang-Hee Hahn, Head of Strategy & Planning at Haven Life Insurance Agency. Before her current position, Sahang-Hee started her career in singing and acting, big law, and got her MBA at Wharton. Reflecting on her varied experiences, she discusses taking risks and being playful with her career. When you push away your fear of risk, you will be surprised by the exciting opportunities that can arise. Without encouragement from a colleague, Sahang-Hee would not have gone to business school, where she learned so much. Without the support of her network, she would never have been able to take professional risks and grow. By being open-minded while accepting help from the incredible leaders she met along the way, Sahang-Hee found fulfillment in her career and kept it interesting. Don't be afraid to get creative with your career. Learn more about Sahang-Hee's professional journey, the benefits of business school, and how rejection makes you stronger. Quotes “Put yourself out there before an opportunity arises.” (12:33-12:37 | Sahang-Hee) “It's one thing to get a credential and then get an opportunity because you have a degree on your resume. It's quite another to go into that role and say, Oh, I'm not speaking a foreign language because I understand what's being said in the room.” (15:13-15:24 | Sahang-Hee) “I'm willing to take on some risk every few years or so and do something completely out of the left field, but it's definitely made my career more exciting.” (24:36-24:46 | Sahang-Hee) “I have learned to take rejection well. And hearing “no” early on in your career actually strengthens you to keep pressing.” (28:02-28:10 | Sahang-Hee) “I wouldn't be here without the network that surrounded me and supported my growth.” (28:34-28:38 | Sahang-Hee) Links Connect with Sahang-Hee Hahn: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sahanghee Website: https://havenlife.com/ Connect with Chris Batz: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrisbatz/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theliongroupkc Instagram: @theliongroupllc Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
