It's Monday, March 4th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 11 YWAM missionaries killed in Tanzania bus accident On February 24th, 11 missionaries with Youth With A Mission died in a tragic traffic accident near Arusha, Tanzania, reported The Christian Post. Darlene Cunningham, who founded YWAM with her husband, Loren, who passed away from cancer in 2023, said, “I am personally reeling from the weight of this news, as I knew and loved many of these individuals personally. But I am leaning into the character of God for what I know to be true about who He is! “Participants in the ‘Executive Masters in Leadership' course, based at YWAM Arusha, Tanzania, took a field trip in two buses to Maasai land, where they observed our thriving community development program. “On the return trip to Arusha, a truck, that had lost its brakes, smashed into our second bus, literally crushing it from top to bottom. Eleven of our beloved friends were killed and eight others are severely wounded, battling for their lives. We have not seen a tragedy of this magnitude in all of YWAM's history and we are all devastated.” Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Survivors of Hamas' attack sue crypto firm for funding terror group Jewish survivors of the October 7th attack by Hamas, the Islamic terrorist group, as well as the loved ones of those still being held hostage in the Gaza Strip, are alleging the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange has allowed the terror group to raise funds using its platform, reports Fox Business. A lawsuit against Binance, filed by the National Jewish Advocacy Center in the U.S. Middle District Court of Alabama, states the crypto exchange has allowed Hamas to raise funds without any consequences. Hamas terrorists killed 1,200 people, injured 6,900 others, and kidnapped 239 people. The lawsuit states, "For such an attack to be successful or even contemplated, significant funding was necessary. Defendants' contributions to the funding of this attack cannot be overstated." Between January 2018 and May 2022, Binance facilitated nearly $900 million in transactions between customers in the United States and Iran, a violation of U.S. sanctions. Iran is known to finance terrorist groups, such as the Lebanon-based Hezzbollah. Biden and Trump went to southern border last Thursday Last Thursday, President Joe Biden went to the border at Brownsville, Texas where few illegal immigrants cross the border, ranked the 29th-most trafficked town by illegal border-crossers, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, reports Fox News. In an attempt to confuse the voters who are upset with Biden for allowing 8 million illegals enter America since he's been in office, the president called for Donald Trump and Republicans to support his bogus border security bill. BIDEN: “I understand my predecessor is in Eagle Pass, [Texas] today. So, here's what I would say to Mr. Trump. Instead of telling members of Congress to block this legislation, join me in telling the Congress to pass this bipartisan border security bill. We can do it together. You know, and I know it's the toughest, most efficient, most effective border security bill this country has ever seen. So, instead of playing politics with the issue, why don't we just get together and get it done?” Needless to say, Biden was the one playing politics. When Donald Trump appeared at Eagle Pass, Texas last Thursday, one of the most trafficked towns on the southern border with Mexico, where hundreds of thousands have illegally crossed, he said this. TRUMP: “Now, the United States is being overrun by the Biden migrant crime. It's a new form of vicious violation to our country. It's migrant crime. We call it Biden migrant crime. Every time you hear the term ‘migrant crime,' you know where that comes from, allowing millions and millions of people to come in.” Possible foreign terrorists coming across southern border In 2022 and 2023, take a listen to the number of foreign nationals who have been found crossing our southern border illegally. According to data leaked to Fox News by Customs and Border Protection, there have been 26,113 Chinese, 12,604 Russians, 6,386 Afghans, 3,153 Egyptians, 659 Iranians, and 538 Syrians. Appearing on the Fox News Channel with Sean Hannity, former President Trump concluded that these foreign nationals, from countries hostile to America, are up to no good. TRUMP: “So, you have 28,000 from China, all fighting age. You don't see women and you don't see men much older than that. It's from 18 to 25, 26 years old. There's something going on. And they're coming from Yemen that we're bombing. They're coming from prisons in the Congo, [Africa]. These are rough people that are coming in.” HANNITY: “Why would they make that long journey to our southern border? And my fear is that we have in this country, because these illegals are not vetted, I fear that terrorist cells have set up in this country that will plot, plan, scheme the next 9/11 or worse. I pray to God, as I said, I'm wrong. I don't think I'm wrong, Mr. President.” Heroic garbageman saves man, woman and dog from burning home And finally, on February 27th, when two garbage men in Tipton, England saw fires ripping through a small brick townhome, they sprung into action and rescued a man, woman, and their dog, reports Good News Network. Steve Whitehouse said, “I saw a young woman screaming from the balcony and all I could think was that I needed to get to her as quickly as possible.” Whitehouse climbed up to a first-floor balcony three times to rescue the trio from the flames. He first carried the woman down, but when he turned back to help the young man, he found he was shouting to his dog, still inside. Bundling the dog in a blanket, Whitehouse climbed down and told the owner to throw the dog to him. After catching him, the garbageman returned up to the balcony to help the man. Meanwhile, the other garbage man, Kevin Marriott, went door to door shouting for people to get clear of the connected townhomes. Senior firefighter Chris Green told the BBC, “I have no doubt that without Steve's incredible bravery the outcome could have been very different. I have no idea how he managed to do what he did. It was heroic. The fire and smoke were coming out of the property's rear door like a blow torch.” In John 15:13, Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.” In this case, garbage man Steve Whitehouse was willing to lay down his life for strangers. It's amazing how lost we can get in our minds. How easily other people's beliefs or opinions about us can begin to feel like our own truth. Yet what other people think is never our truth. We each have our own sovereign truth which is the key to personal peace and freedom. My guest this week, Renee Linnell, knows all too well how it feels to wake up to the shocking realization that she had lost herself after years of brainwashing from a Buddhist cult. Whether it's through the influence of others or of an addiction, trauma, or depression it can be hard to take the first steps back to yourself. Renee offers gentle and inspiring guidance on how to take that first step and move into a place of the greatest peace one can know.On this episode Renee and I discuss how to stop betraying ourselves due to low self-esteem and fear, how to move away from the messaging that we're not OK and need something or someone to fix us, and to realize that there's nothing holding us back because there are no conditions we have to meet to be worthy, lovable, and free. Renee is a former surf model, a professional Argentine Tango dancer, and a serial entrepreneur with an Executive Masters in Business Administration from New York University. She made her publishing debut in 2018 with The Burn Zone, a memoir of her experience as a cult survivor. She now has published her second book, Still on Fire: A Memoir. Cannabis and CBD has been quite the game changer for millions of people who are chronic sufferers. But have you heard of CBDA? CBDA is the compound before it's extracted to become CBD. CBDA potentially has higher effectiveness and can be more efficient than CBD at activating the serotonin receptor, which reduces anxiety and nausea. CBDA is effective in treating anxiety and pain, insomnia, nausea, epilepsy, and other conditions like anxiety. In this episode, Founder and CEO of Planetarie, Stacy Cason digs deep into her understanding of CBD and CBDA and why CBDA can potentially be an effective medicine to treat many different ailments. She also talks about the recent research on how CBDA can potentially prevent COVID-19. Snapshot of the Key Points from the Episode: [02:00] The background history of Stacy Cason. Stacy talks about how she discovered planetarie.com, why she decided to focus on it, and the difference between CBD and CBDA. [07:12] Stacy explains why cannabis industries focus mainly on CBD, not CBDA. [10:06] Stacy elaborates on what forms of CBDA are used to treat pain and some other ways you can use CBDA. [13:37] Stacy explains how one can prescribe CBDA to themselves. [17:10] Stacy's definition of terpenes and how it is used in CBDA. Stacy also talks about the different products she has created from CBDA and how it benefits people. [22:18] Stacy expounds on CBDA and Covid-19. How do they relate? About Stacey Cason - Stacy Cason, CEO and founder of Planetarie, a water-extracted hemp business in Colorado, is a specialist in healthier alternatives to alcohol-derived cannabinoids. Stacy Cason is a case study in taking the road less traveled. Starting with a 15-year tenure as a medical professional holding role as an ICU Nurse and anesthesiology nurse practitioner (CRNA), Cason had a front-row seat to pain management and the effects of the opioid crisis. But it was her offshoot career as a real estate developer that serendipitously led her into the world of hemp and changed the trajectory of her career and we believe, the world of pain management. Stacy got into hemp first as a grower, as a business strategy to develop land she recently purchased, believing in the medicinal power of hemp and its alignment with her vision to offer non-addictive, natural alternatives for pain management. She discovered there was a processing issue when she went to harvest her crops, realizing as a scientist that the efficacy of hemp was being diminished by the current industry standard processing methods — ethanol and CO2 — which degrade the living cannabinoids, rendering them less bioavailable. Cason believed there had to be a healthier way, and had the entrepreneurial audacity to engineer a new processing method that would retain the living cannabinoids, delivering the full medicinal benefits of hemp, with none of the harm, through fully stabilized, raw CBDa. Through tireless research, passion and development, Cason founded Planetarie and created an environmentally friendly water-extraction technology. Knowing she was able to offer the industry a better form of CBD, Cason developed a manufacturing facility with the objective of being an ingredient supplier. But she was quickly disillusioned when she realized the race to the CBD market was cluttered with marketers eager to make CBD claims, many of which did not share Cason's commitment to efficacy, transparency and integrity. And so she made another career pivot, developing her own pain management product line: Planetarie. The first and only water-extracted CBDa line, delivering the raw, most bio-available medicinal benefits of hemp to the consumer through a range of topical and ingestible delivery systems. In addition to her role helming Planetarie, Cason — a rural north Louisiana native — is a scientist, athlete and businesswoman who believes in inspirational leadership and integrity. An avid learner, Cason accumulated numerous degrees including a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, Masters of Science in Anesthesiology, an Executive Masters of Business Administration, and is an alumnus of Harvard University. Cason presently resides with her golden retriever in Colorado, where she also holds titles of Ironman, bodybuilder, investor, speaker and an active philanthropist. This week, I'm excited to introduce you to a fellow facilitator in south-east Queensland, Australia: Kate Peardon from Zenith Journey. In this conversation, I throw many questions at Kate because I'm fascinated in her experience using visuals in her work as a way to form connections, increase memory retention and even decrease anxiety (particularly when talking about a heated topic!).The theme of unconscious incompetence as that bottom rung on the ladder of learning also is a common theme in this chat, as we realise that we're always works in progress and we simply don't know, what we don't know! We also discuss that failing art at high school is not an excuse for using visuals in your work (that's a note for Leanne!), how Kate uses visuals to boost the engagement in her sessions (and on herself to boost memory retention), and how to balance that line between having too much structure in your session v being more looser and in the moment.A business professional and coach, Kate specialises in unleashing brilliance in people, teams and companies. In her career, Kate worked to the executive role of People and Development Director at Wiley & Co, and is now in a unique position as both an internal and external catalyst. Personally, in February 2018, Kate's life took an unexpected twist, and she shares that story in this episode - Kate has been rehabilitating and rewiring her neural-pathways, and life, using all her knowledge and experience in neuroscience, positive psychology, habit theory and performance coaching. About today's guest: Kate PeardonKate helps executives to understand and grow their wisdom in leadership, so that they have a positive impact on themselves, their team, team, family, community, and leave a legacy on the greater world around them. With more interests that a term deposit; and more degrees than a thermometer, Kate is an eternal student. University education consists of a Bachelor of Business Management (Australia), an MBA (France/Australia), and an Executive Masters in Positive Leadership and Strategy (Spain). She is an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation. A musician at heart she's studied Musical Theater and Performance at National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA). For fun, you'll find Kate relaxing at any piano she finds (probably belting out a tune) and cycling at sunrise. Chasing Wonders, Adelaide Film Festival Photo by: Naomi Jellicoe Hilton Nathanson, entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist, is our guest this week. While not a graduate of the Process, Hilton's life, and life pursuits have been deeply touched by the everyday radius of many Hoffman graduates' love. It's amazing to see just how wide a radius our graduates' love and healing travels. The ripple effect of the Hoffman Process worked through Hilton in a wonder-filled, tangible way. In this episode, Hilton shares the effect of witnessing the profound change the Hoffman Process engendered in people close to him. So much so, that what he witnessed became the inspiration for a film that took seven years to complete. CHASING WONDERS In 2020 Hilton's production company, Hianlo Films premiered this feature film called Chasing Wonders at the Adelaide Film Festival. Hoffman Institute's research inspired Hilton's original idea for the film. The foundational underpinnings of the Process shine through the film's storyline. Chasing Wonders is the heart-warming story of a young boy who is encouraged by his grandfather to take off on the adventure of a lifetime, leading him to the heart of the human condition - understanding our parents' past but not being defined by it. This is something Hilton speaks to in today's episode - how important it is for us to share with our children when they are ready, stories about our lives before they were born. Chasing Wonders premieres in the United States on June 4th, 2021, on Amazon, VUDU, and Google TV. The Hoffman Institute's scholarship fund will receive a portion of the proceeds from the film as part of the US release, bringing Love's Everyday Radius full circle. MORE ABOUT HILTON Originally from Perth, Australia, Hilton arrived in London in 1992. There, he spent his first years working in financial markets before embarking on a career in asset management. Subsequently, he founded Marble Bar Asset Management where he has been Chairman since 2013. Throughout his career, Hilton has taken an active interest in the psychology of decision-making. This prompted him to pursue an Executive Masters in Consulting and Coaching for Change from Insead Business School in 2015. In 2004, Hilton founded the Rosemarie Nathanson Charitable Trust. The trust supports organizations that advance the welfare and education of young people. Hilton lives in London with his wife and children and is an avid cricket fan, a keen sailor, and a ferocious reader. Subscribe on Apple/iTunes

Desmond Wong (a 34 year-old Singaporean) and I discuss the opportunities that Singapore presents to the world as an emerging Asian model for an economy of well-being. Having visited Singapore twice in 2018 I came to a deep appreciation of the the potential of this small Asian nation to become one of the most successful working models of an economy of well-being. We also cover the important influence of German philosopher Max Scheler (1874-1928) whose writings on ethics and values influenced the thinking of Pope John Paul II. on his own notion of a Civilization of Love. Who is Desmond Wong? He is a Singaporean Catholic who pursued his calling into the plural sector, from “grassroots and boots” to consulting for charities, government, and philanthropists. He has presented case studies on community operational research (OR) in China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. Desmond believes that purpose must inform our apparatus and actions, and that only people have phenomenal value, in every sense of the phrase. Rather than Pilatian listening to the crowds, we would do better by revisiting what is meaningful to us as living communities. Rather than ideology, we would do better in the light of both faith and reason, and the experience of love that takes us out of our comfort zone and sends us into the world. Desmond holds an Executive Masters of Business Administration, University of Hull, United Kingdom, a Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Psychology, Executive Education from Harvard University, United States, and is Full Member of the Singapore Psychological Society. “If we do not face our wounds, we will inflict wounds on others … We need to be found and carried … by someone who will leave the 99 … why? The shepherd says … ‘You may be a wounded sheep or a lost, useless coin, but … Here I AM … have no fear … your wounds, your sins can never diminish your worth for me'.” – Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mark-anielski/message

Ric Leahy, my guest in this episode, was almost responsible for a career choice of mine that would have been disastrous, both for me and my country. Ric and I went to high school together. When we hit our final year, Ric had a plan: “I'm going to win a scholarship and join the navy." And I thought … well, why not. I'm going to join the air force. Ric wins his scholarship and begins a career in the navy. I failed every test they had, didn't begin a career in the air force, and eventually found my own path. During his naval career, Ric served on the staff of the Chief of the Australian Navy, on multiple ships, and was deployed on the ground on operations to Cambodia, Timor-Leste, and Iraq. He was awarded a Queen's Gold Medal, and later in his career the Conspicuous Service Cross. He now leads a number of leadership programs for Australia’s top business schools, has become a “neuro nerd” with an Executive Masters degree on neuroscience and leadership, and is an endurance athlete. In our conversation we talk about where we do our best thinking--and why--and three powerful mindsets: the Sensei, the Scientist and the Socializer. The Do One Better! Podcast – Philanthropy, Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship
Director of LSE’s Marshall Institute, Stephan Chambers, joins Alberto Lidji to discuss research on philanthropy, social entrepreneurship; their Masters in Social Business & Entrepreneurship and more. The Marshall Institute is a research centre, a place for teaching and a driving force for convening diverse stakeholders. They tackle hard problems such as how to make our world sustainable and how to cultivate altruism. Stephan provides context for these challenges: we misallocate resources, we don’t understand the real effect of incentives on human behaviour, we don’t price bad things properly, and we don’t reward good things properly. During the podcast, we have a fascinating and wide-ranging conversation, ranging from Stephan’s career trajectory and personal drivers, to the Marshall Institute’s Executive Masters in Social Business and Entrepreneurship and their key research focus areas: altruistic capital and the hybrid economy. Many interesting questions are explored, such as how do we encourage the population to be more philanthropically engaged? When looking at what would constitute success in the next 10 years, Stephan notes: there’s a slight frustration with the hubris associated with our ‘movement’… he hears all the time that we are going to solve climate change, end poverty, and create sustainable food security. But, we know these problems are continuous and that we don’t end them. Rather, we address them more or less successfully, but we don’t end them. So, success is modest and bounded: he cares about accelerating the impact of his own students, and he also measures success on the effect these students and the Marshall Institute have on this system within universities. If what is being done at the LSE is replicated elsewhere, and if in 10 years’ time lots of other universities are producing courses similar to what’s being offered at the Marshall Institute, he would consider this to be success. Stephan’s key takeaway: we used to think of entrepreneurship and philanthropy as things that were discretionary or elective. You could choose to do them if you were that way inclined. His argument is that the state of the world is such that neither of these things is elective anymore. Neither of these is discretionary anymore. Unless we – all of us, all the time – make common cause with the rest of humanity, we’re in big trouble. Unless all of us, all the time think of our roles in the world as different; as necessarily challenging and innovative; unless we are all prepared to create new rules, we’re finished. Tune in for radical insight on how to: • Uncover a unique perspective on the space between moments in life: Holy Noticing • Discover a lost spiritual art that requires a state of Christian mindfulness so you can notice things with a holy purpose • Learn the art of Holy Noticing—being a person who ponders and yields; reviews and renews relationships; engages the environment; labels and releases emotions; observes and submits thoughts; searches and surrenders; engages the world like Christ. Do you realize how much power you have as a consumer? I’m serious. There’s that famous quote that I use all the time which is “You vote every single day by the way you spend your money.” and over the last couple of years, I’ve found that this is truer than ever… your beliefs drive how you purchase goods and services and companies that don’t adhere to your personal values or beliefs, more often than not, don’t get your money. And money talks. But… that doesn’t mean that you just buy a product SIMPLY because you believe in the values behind it… there’s a whole lot more to it and it’s something that my guest today has spent nearly 20 years working to study... 5:10 - The Llenay 101 Llenay’s Ferretti’s success as a fashion designer gave her a robust knowledge of international sourcing as well as access to iconic industry mentors. It also paved the way for her future in fair-trade. Fair-trade found Llenay after she met women basket weavers on a 2001 volunteer trip to Uganda with 10,000 Villages. Llenay’s skills in pattern, color, and textile helped the women reimagine their beautiful patterns for capturing market. After working as the Executive Director for 10,000 Villages, Llenay started her own organization in 2007 called Bahavana World Project. Bahavana World Project brings technical skills and services to women’s organizations in the developing world. In 2016, Llenay joined the 10,000 Villages board and is currently the acting CEO while the organization searches for a permanent CEO. 10:05 - Our Purchases Are Powerful When people have access to growth and fairly paid work, their lives can change significantly by giving them the tools to sustain themselves. Consumers have the power to shape the market in the ways they chose to invest their dollars. This is as true in the fashion industry as it is in fair-trade, and purchasing decisions affect everyone in the global community. These days, consumers are much more aware of the impact they have on the global community with conscious and ethical participation in fair-trade purchases. Consumers who are not involved in fair-trade purchases sometimes ask: “Isn’t that job better than no job?” This idea does not apply to vulnerable communities working in unsafe conditions for unfair wages. Working for fair wages eliminates the vulnerability of being stuck in a cycle of exploitation. Control should be in the hands of both the maker and the buyer. 10,000 Villages gives interest advances and pays artists in full for products, creating a risk-free financial environment where artists don’t have to wait an unreasonable amount of time to be paid. 20:40 - The Demand For Transparency All businesses need to be transparent, and consumers should know how workers are treated and how they are paid. The April 24th, 2013 Rana Plaza Complex Disaster in Bangladesh started a global demand for transparency and for workers to be treated with dignity and respect. A campaign was started by the Fashion Revolution organization that asked companies “Who made my clothes?” instead of “Where were my clothes made?” 10,000 Villages has used a model of transparency from day one. Having the artisan tell their stories for 70 years has built sustainability and trust with both artisans and consumers. The addition of fair-trade practices by large fashion brands like J.Crew, Athleta (Gap), Target, etc., has created more accountability in the industry: In the past, companies would simply pass off stories of artisans as checking the fair-trade box, but if it’s not well made, on trend, and functional, it’s just creates a one-time pity purchase. Fair-trade organizations work toward proving that women are being educated, children are going to school, people’s medical needs are being fulfilled, housing is available, and college education is accessible. Transparency should reveal an equal respect in a trading relationship, and build a long-term commitment between makers and markets. 32:40 - Connecting Makers To Markets The mission of 10,000 Villages is to link makers to markets through fair-trade, sustainable, long-term relationships. A personal connection in every step of the transaction is key. The voice of the consumer matters; you actually can shop your values! 10,000 Villages refreshed their brand by inviting the consumer into maker stories even more. Now the goal is to establish a value chain that communicates everything from maker to the market, encouraging the consumer to join the movement. Industries need to base their practices on consumer needs in order to keep up with a changing market. Women around the world want the same things for their children and their communities. Llenay’s inspiration moving forward is to be able to demonstrate her values not only through her career, but also as a consumer. 48:23 - Getting to Know Our Guest: Find out Llenay’s Fav TV Shows (think old school Saturday mornings), recent kitchen successes, and what’s on her reading list. 47:34 - New Question Time! Llenay answers it first: “What Does It Mean To You To Run A Business With Purpose?” “It means to have my personal values and my outward expression in the world aligned and it means that I am living my personal best life and hopefully helping others by doing that.” 5:58 A Memorable Moment [spp-tweet tweet="Safe working conditions and a fair wage is a human right and the dignity of work should embrace that, not exploit people for how they can benefit a corporation or a capitalist system." - Llenay Ferretti] Meet Your Guest: As the founder and CEO of Bhavana World Project, since 2007, Llenay has worked to bridge the gap between fair trade artisans and U.S. companies to create successful and sustainable market access through partnerships within the public and private sectors. She has consulted for East Africa Trade Hub; focusing on business development and training programs for more than 200 fair trade groups in Asia and Africa. Llenay has also been working with Ten Thousand Villages for many years, as the Executive Director, a national board member, and now, as the organization’s Acting CEO. As a global maker-to-market movement, Ten Thousand Villages connects artisans in developing countries with conscious shoppers in the U.S. offering ethically sourced gifts, home wares and fashion accessories crafted by hand. Every product generates sustainable income — and impact — for 20,000 makers in 30 countries who earn a fair, living wage in safe working conditions. Through her leadership at Ten Thousand Villages and Bhavana World Project, Llenay has more than twenty years of experience in international business development, product design, business management, and fair trade standards and certification. “I believe that by providing artisans with the tools to grow their businesses creates the driving force behind projects in developing economies. This has been the driving force behind the development of Ten Thousand Villages and Bhavana World Project. Working with each of the artisan groups that I have had the privilege to connect with has shown me that equality in development can affect both individual and collective transformation, which has direct impact on artisan processes, product outcomes, and their market sustainability.” Llenay’s educational background includes an Executive Masters of International Service from American University in Washington D.C. and certifications in USAID Economic Evaluation Basics, USAID Monitoring and Evaluation, and USAID M&E Fundamentals from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. As well as a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, PA. And from 2015-2017, she served on the United States Trade Representative Advisory Committee on Africa, a Presidential appointment during the Obama Administration. Some of the benefits of pursuing a European MBA. Thank you so much to Marie-Laurence Lemaire, HEC Paris Senior Development Manager, Jeroen Verhoeven, ESADE MBA and Executive Masters and Associate Director of Admissions, and Lisa Piguet, IMD Assistant Director of MBA Admissions and Marketing for an outstanding panel discussion about the European b-school experience. In the following excerpt, our panelists discussed some of the benefits of pursuing a European MBA. Linda Abraham: Diego asks "Why choose a European MBA instead of a U.S. MBA? What is the main difference/advantages?" Marie-Laurence Lemaire: Yes, this is a tough one…Well, a simple question, what do you want to do after your MBA? If you want to work in the U.S. and be happy with your job…stay in the U.S. and you will be happy. You will get a great education, because you have great schools there, highly ranked and so on, so that's fine. But if you want to have a really strong diversity, get mixed up with different cultures, people coming from all over the world to have a very rich sharing of experience from people coming from countries that are so remote, sometimes you don't even know where they are on the map, an MBA in Europe is really the place. I'm sure in Spain, in Switzerland, as well, this is happening, but really the major difference between doing an MBA in Europe or doing an MBA in the U.S., [is] if you want to make that jump into becoming international and to have that experience, an MBA in Europe would be the big difference that it will make on your CV. Lisa Piguet: Sure. I'm American, I actually can relate to the person who asked that question….The one thing about the U.S. is that you have a different kind of…education process there. But [regarding the] international focus of Europe, the programs here, it's very different…for example, I would be sitting in a class of 90…but everybody spoke like me. They might have considered themselves Mexican, for example, or Argentinean, but in fact, they were born and raised in the U.S. just like I was. But in the European schools…you'll actually see the true international diversity that is represented worldwide. So in our program this year, we have 46 nationalities with 90 MBAs, and they're true…we have one Swiss….There are still a lot of multinational headquarters here and a lot of people want to work in those companies, with the hopes of going elsewhere. I think Europe is one of those places you can do that. Like Marie said, if you really want to stay in the U.S., you're probably going to attend a 2-year program and you probably will end up staying in the U.S., more likely than not….If you want a global career, my advice is to go to Europe. Jeroen Verhoeven: I'm completely in line with Lisa and Marie…but I would also link that somehow to back home in the United States, [you] somehow have a differentiating factor. There are a lot of top, top schools in the U.S., but there's also a lot of different people who go to those schools. If you can present yourself in front of a group to having said, "Okay, I've done my MBA in Switzerland, in France, in Spain," it is definitely something different. It will make you stand out. Standing out, I think, is very important when you're looking for a job….Competition comes from anywhere, anytime.” So in order to be successful in that fast-changing, interconnected world, having that cultural savviness, hopefully with some additional languages, as well, that can really give you the added advantage to land a job also back home, not even including all the interesting options that we might offer in Europe…I think there are a lot of additional advantages, apart from the cultural richness that you can have, studying here in Europe…from a business perspective, there's also a clear added value to considering European options. For the complete discussion, please see the 2013 European Virtual Panel transcript and mp3 audio file. Still not sure where you should apply,
