Soto breakdowns down WWE Night of Champions PPV which saw many shocks, twists, turns and disappointments such as Seth Rollins winning the New World Heavyweight Championship, Trish and Becky's very underwhelming match with a surprise involvement in their feud, GUNTHER retaining the IC Championship in a very underrated match with Mustafa Ali, Bianca Belair teasing her rumored heel turn, Rhea dominating Natalya in 69 seconds to retain the Smackdown Women's Championship, Brock and Cody fighting hard with controversial ending to the match and of course Owens and Zayn retaining with help from the Uso's? and the impending Bloodline Civil War happening with Jimmy superkicking Roman and saying this is what Jey wanted to do! We're a day late, but never a dollar short! Rick Ucchino and SP3 are back live on Wednesday afternoon talking about the latest report about Vince McMahon working his way back into creative. Apparently Brock Lesnar vs. Omos at WrestleMania, was his call. Meantime, Becky Lynch and Lita have captured the Women's Tag Team Champions, but what kind of ripple effect will that have on the WrestleMania 39 card? We're just days away from AEW Revolution. This PPV will stand alone, but Tony Khan's next big event may have some competition. And Kenny Omega's name keeps getting mentioned with WWE, but one of AEW's biggest stars says he's sticking around. We have all that and more covered on today's Bleav in Pro Wrestling!
Being that the score was not settled at Halloween Havoc (Settling the Score), Ric Flair and Terry Funk decided to, once and for all, settle the score. This time, they will face off in an "I Quit" match. Also, Jim Cornette seems to be paying a lot of attention to his new tag team The Dynamic Dudes, and the Midnight Express is not exactly jazzed about it. This PPV was short, fun, and ultimately score settling. First, the Snark Marks talk about Black Friday shopping and share a few memories of working at a bank together. 1989 was the year of Ric Flair. After three five star matches with Ricky Steamboat, Flair moved on to perhaps his kindred spirit: Terry Funk. There is no way this feud will be anything other than classic, with two of the best performers in the history of wrestling facing off for the most prestigious title in the world. This PPV is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, with intrigue from top to bottom (plus they actually let Rick Steiner win a match while only getting a tiny bit of doodoo on his face!) First, the boys discuss Andrew's recent attending of a drink and draw event before he reveals a big surprise- The Snark Marks are going to Wrestlemania. 00:00 - 12:00 Andrew's Drink and Draw event 12:00 - 18:31 The Snark Marks are going to Wrestlemania 18:31 - 2:27:29 Great American Bash 1989 Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @SnarkMarksPod and subscribe to our YouTube channel!

We continue our classic World Wrestling Federation PPV run from 1992, picking up after WrestleMania VIII with SummerSlam 1992 from Wembley Stadium in London! This PPV was mostly remembered for it's main event which saw Bret "Hitman" Hart defending the Intercontinental Championship against his brother-in-law, The British Bulldog. Along with it's undercard, we discuss a couple of dream matches, the fact that several storylines were altered due to talent leaving the company before this event, and the fact that, SOMEHOW, The Ultimate Warrior managed to have a better match than Shawn Michaels. On this week's episode of the Take It Home Podcast, John LaRocca once again goes back in time and reviews the WCW Spring Stampede 1994. This PPV is considered one of the very best WCW PPV's in the company's history. The main event was a continuation of a classic rivalry as WCW World Champion "Nature Boy" Ric Flair defends his title against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. John reviews all 8 matches on this PPV, shares the star ratings by Dave Meltzer and also talks about history of WCW leading up to this PPV. This weeks podcast is talking about the next UFC ppv, UFC 273. We got 2 title fights and one potential mega star facing his first real challenge which might make that fight bigger than the two title fights. This PPV has great fights from early prelims, to the main event!
This PPV is well-known (except to Chris) as the PPV with the botched ending that, in some folks opinion, showed the first crack in the WCW armour. Nick Patrick was "supposed" to do a quick 3 count to feed into the story that followed : Bret Hart came down, claiming no ref funny business will ever happen on his watch, punches out Patrick and re-starts the match. Rumour has it Hogan told Patrick NOT to do the rushed count in order to get what he wanted out of the match..whether that was making Sting look weak or whatever his reasons may have been. Sting had taken some heat for not being in ring-shape, as well - the hilarious quote of Bischoff suggesting he wasn't "tan enough". Aside from the confusing main event - the rest of the PPV was fairly middle of the road... Of note : Benoit took on Saturn, Eddy took on Dean Malenko - all 4 of the Radicalz fought amongst themselves on this night. Nash was unable to make the event due to legit health issues, so his match against the Giant was pulled. Goldberg had his first official PPV match v Mongo McMichael. Curt Hennig took on DDP. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF OUR LISTENERS OUT THERE!! THANK YOU FOR TUNING IN FOR THIS PAST YEAR OF 1997 & 1990. WE'LL BE COMING BACK AT YOU IN 2022 WITH '1 Year in Wrestling : 1998' ...as well as reviewing / rewatching the 'Big 4' for 1991. See you next year!!! - 1YiW
2 things come to mind when I think of this PPV : D-Lo Brown getting a Stunner on the roof of a truck, and Owen Hart rushing the ring to attack HBK after the main event. This PPV is the first PPV since Bret Hart left..a lot has changed. Vince is off-camera, for now, as the Mr.McMahon character is lurking just around the corner...JR and the King are the only 2 commentators for this event - which would set the tone for the Attitude Era, commentators-wise. Brian Christopher and Taka M have an underrated match to kick things off, Marc Mero takes on Butterbean in a ToughMan Contest... We get to see The Rock v Steve Austin in their first PPV match in a rivalry that would define the era. As far as DX content : Ken Shamrock proves he can hang with the main event crew as he takes on Shawn Michaels in the main event, while HHH takes on a 48 year old Sgt Slaughter in a Boot Camp Match..and the New Age Outlaws (pre-DX) take on the Legion of Doom.
The UFC had their final PPV of 2021 which was headlined by Oliveira vs Poirier 2. Oliveira got his first title defense with a submission win. Julianna Pena shocked the world with a submission win over the GOAT Amanda Nunes. Geoff Neal gets a decision win over Santiago Ponzinibbio. Kai Kara France knocked Cody Garbrandt into another dimension. The Suga Show continues to roll as Sean O'Malley ets a first round KO over Raulian Paiva. Ahhhh nostalgic early 90s WWF....so amazing. This show is story-rich, and promo-heavy..most of the matches are all 8min or less. The Main Event sees the Ultimate Warrior v Rick Rude inside a solid steel cage of 15ft!! This PPV also marks the return of Hulk Hogan, a little sooner than expected, due to the ever-growing lack of faith in the Warrior as the Top Guy. Hogan faces Earthquake. The Hart Foundation take on the now-3-member Demolition in a 2/3 falls Summerslam Classic!...the Legion of Doom come down to ringside to factor in to the ending. Also on the card : Tito Santana v The Warlord Texas Tornado v Mr.Perfect (supposed to be Brutus Beefcake, but he'd had that BRUTAL accident out of the ring) The Rockers v Power & Glory (Shawn Michaels' bad knee angle) Jake Roberts v Bad News Brown (200lbs of Harlem Sewer Rats v Damien the Snake) Dusty Rhodes v Macho King (Rhodes was distraught as he just found out Sapphire had been 'purchased' by the Million Dollar Man) Classic stuff here!!

Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are here with the MMA Vivisection PRELIMS SHOW, breaking down a set of 9 bouts on this 13-bout UFC 265: 'Derrick Lewis vs. Ciryl Gane' PPV event Preliminary Card. Despite the disappointing loss of Amanda Nunes vs Juliana Pena's Title Fight in the co-main last week, this UFC 265 PPV card is pretty stacked. José Aldo vs Pedro Munoz ended up taking that co-main slot over the past week... So, all-in-all it's still a great PPV; even though the main event battle for the interim heavyweight title between Lewis and Gane is the least cool fight on the card, which is saying something. Even the featured prelim, which is set to showcase Rafael Fiziev vs. Bobby Green, is a great match up for us this weekend. This PPV event is coming at us this Saturday night, August 7th,, 2021, from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the MAIN CARD, check out that version of the MMA Vivi which airs at 2pm Central today, Thurs., Aug. 5th., 2021, right here on our SC channel. WCW presented Starccade in Washington D.C during the Monday Night War Stories on 12/19/99. This is the last PPV of 1999. The main event is Goldberg Vs Bret Hart for the HeavyWeight Championship. Kevin Nash Vs Sid in a Powerbomb match. This PPV is considered one of the worst Starrcades of all time. Find out what we thought about this PPV !! LISTEN NOW !!!
NXT TakeOver Vengeance Day was the bright fire we needed to start the week of wrestling. This PPV was full throttle start to finish fire. Congratulations to the new Dusty Cup winners! Screw you Adam Cole for breaking up Undisputed Era. We won't talk much about Raw, but, they really screwed the pooch on this one. The Elimination Chamber has been slapped together, but SmackDown is still holding it down on the WWE brand. We sit with Roman. First and foremost, Congratulations Cody and Brandi Rhodes for their new baby girl! We wish you happiness and health! AEW continues to light up the Wednesday Night Wars. Welcome to Episode 26 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 26 we review WCW Capital Combat, The Return of Robocop. This was during the NWA years of WCW. This event has many wrestlers that would appear in the World Wrestling Federation not too long after this. They would leave for a multitude of reasons but at this time, WCW was not at its greatest. This PPV however did have some great moments. The Midnight Express, The 4 Horsemen and Sid Vicious In a Tuxedo, and of course the wonderful Woman accompanying Ric Flair. This event also has the guest appearance of the one and only Robocop, who would be Stings protector as he recovers from surgery. It has its ups and downs, but this event is well worth a watch. We hope you enjoy this episode and please, remember to hit those Like & Subscribe buttons!!!! Join us to continue the discussion here https://twitter.com/ChatGrapplePops
We are into the middle of December and what better way to celebrate than with December to Dismember 2006!This is the first and only WWECW pay per view and for good reason. This PPV is riddled with awful booking and questionable decisions. There are two matches worth the watch in MNM vs The Hardyz and the Extreme Elimination Chamber. This could have been the beginning of a run of WWECW PPV's but instead Paul Heyman is gone and ECW was regulated to matches on RAW and Smackdown shows.Follow us and please leave a five star review!Twitter - @StrangerRings1IG - @StrangerRingsPodFacebook - Stranger Rings Podcast
The boss is away so Sam takes the reins and guides us through WWE/NXTs most ludicrous and perhaps most fun match stipulation, WAR GAMES!!! This PPV had probably the most stupid/funny/epic spot we've ever seen in Wrestling, oh and also there was a tank, lot's of high spots and the "Buffweight" Pete Dunne (TM Jon). Get in touch on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram @HardestPartPod Email us at hardestpartofthering@gmail.com If you like the podcast, please rate, review and SUBSCRIBE!
Welcome to Episode 25 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 25 we review an exclusive UK only PPV from the WWF in 1998. Live From the London Arena, WWF Capital Carnage. This PPV had everything you could expect from a late 90s, WWF Attitude Era PPV and so so much more. The rowdy UK fans really made the atmosphere in this PPV one of the best you'll ever see. You had every big name superstar on the roster in action here and the crowd loved every minute of it, as did we and so will you! We had Special guest star Vinnie Jones, The Heel Mr McMahon and his stooges getting involved, title matches galore, a crazy fatal 4 way main event, and some nudity to top it off! What more could you ask for? We hope you enjoy this episode and please, remember to hit those Like & Subscribe buttons!!!! Join us to continue the discussion here https://twitter.com/ChatGrapplePops
This PPV title could be the theme of 202, but Rob, Alex, Don, and Stephen Zimmerman talk a new theme for Raw, Robs new policy with AEW Dark, Daga being a free agent, running and grading the card, and MORE!
"Snap into a SlimJim! The meat that snaps!!" This PPV has SlimJim alll over it. And its riddled with audio, specifically music botches. I love the nWo separate entrance located up in the balcony. Also great : Hogan promoting 'Santa With Muscles' while wearing a hairpiece. Hogan wearing his sunglasses for the first 5 min of the match against Macho Man, Macho Man ripping off the shades and hairpiece and putting them both on...Piper's bizarre and recklessly unscripted promo at the end of the PPV that ran far too long...Syxx ( at the tender age of 24) debuting in WCW against a 26 year old Chris Jericho....DDP v Eddy Guerrero....another Malenko v Rey classic...some good stuff here.
"Deadly" Dave and "The Wildcard" Ace Williams bring to you a watch along of an event that Ace had never seen before, WWF International Incident which took place in July of 1996. This PPV is headlined by a major 6 man tag with Owen Hart, British Bulldog, and Vader taking on HBK Shawn Michaels, Ahmed Johnson, and Sycho Sid. The discussion also turns to the wrestling business in general and other topics. Thank you for checking us out, and be sure to like, subscribe, and comment on all our content!!! Welcome to Episode 17 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 17 we review ECW Cyberslam from 1996. This is PART 2 of our 2 part BRIAN PILLMAN SERIES. After being fired from WCW for his antics during the PPV Superbrawl 6 (covered in our last episode number 16) Brian Pillman shows up just 6 days later in the Philadelphia Bingo Hall, home of Extreme Championship Wrestling, ECW. His loose cannon character would continue to raise hell here, and the fans LOVED IT......at first. Brian Pillman wasn't the only crazy thing going on at this event though, its was a classic early ECW PPV full of madness and brutal X-Rated action. It had a gruelling TV title match between the madman SABU and 2 Cold Scorpio, a crazy inter-gender dog collar match, Cactus Jack, and the crazy but brilliant Italian Stallion J T Smith, and all of this on top of The Loose Cannon Brian Pillman threatening to whip his privates out while simultaneously screaming at the 'smart marks'. This PPV is a classic and a must watch for any wrestling fan. We really enjoyed Re-Watching this event and we hope you enjoy this episode and please, remember to hit those Like & Subscribe buttons!!!! WCW literally went to the beach for the 1995 Bash at the Beach PPV. They also visited the hit TV show, Baywatch. The episode they filmed titled "Bash at the Beach" didn't air until February of 1996. The double main event featured Hogan in a cage vs. Vader for the WCW Title and Savage vs. Flair in a "Lifeguard Match." This PPV also featured craptastic performances from Renegade, Jim Duggan and Kamala, but they were still better than the acting seen/heard in the Baywatch episode. Listen to a special sneak peak of the Baywatch episode at the beginning of Part 2!

Welcome to Episode 10 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 10 we review WCW Spring Stampede 2000. Probably one of the most hectic and high paced WCW ever! This PPV was at a time when the NWO were done and dusted, and the creative minds of Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo tried something different to try and boost ratings and buyrates to what they were during the NWO boom. This PPV was the beginning of the New Blood VS The Millionaires Club era. All Title belts were vacated and new champions would be crowned at this event, Spring Stampede 2000. We really enjoy this PPV, and we have a laugh and a joke about its quirkiness. It may not be the best PPV ever, but it was massively entertaining for sure. Welcome to Episode 9 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 9 we review WWF Royal Rumble 1999 No Chance In Hell. This PPV is from height of the WWF Attitude Era and the Height of the Mr McMahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin feud. It has a great Rumble match, The First ever Female entrant in Chyna, and a brutal 'I Quit' match between The Rock and Mankind that would feature in the amazing and controversial wrestling documentary 'Beyond The Mat'. This PPV is from a time when WCW was just about to make its booming rise.....but it wasn't quite there yet. it was a great show with a weird first match in the chamber of horrors, a great match with Steve Austin and Dustin Rhodes and the illusive hallowen havoc phantom! Judgment Day 2000 took place in Louisville, Kentucky at Freedom Hall. Some of the big matches included an 60-minute Iron Man Match for the WWF Title between The Rock and Triple H with Shawn Michaels as the special guest ref, Benoit v Jericho in a submission match for the IC Title, and 4 more matches. This PPV also marked the debut of "The American Badass". Find out my thoughts on that and each match from this Attitude Era PPV on my 3rd Retro PPV Review.

Join us as we watch the Royal Rumble 1992 and do a live watch along. This PPV was notorious for it being the first Royal Rumble to have the WWF Championship as the prize for the winner. The matches included the Legion of Doom vs The Natural Disasters, The BushWhackers vs The Beverly Brothers, Rowdy Roddy Piper vs The Mountie, and The 30m Man Over The Top Rope Battle Royal featuring the likes of The Undertaker, Big Bossman, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, The Macho Man Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, and the newly signed Ric Flair.Learn more about your ad choices. WCW has had enough! Deploy the fake Stings! WCW strikes back by winning the tag-team titles on Nitro. Two trilogies are completed: Hogan vs Piper and DDP vs Randy Savage. Also a new star emerges! Jim Crockett's NWA dove into the PPV market in late 1987 and again in January of 1988. Both events flopped, largely due to the WWF airing shows opposite, but in July of '88 JCP finally had a chance to run a PPV unopposed. This PPV would be a streamlined, five-match card, much as the first two Clash of the Champions specials had been. The buyrate hinged on the popularity of new babyface Lex Luger, and his quest to dethrone former mentor Ric Flair for the NWA Title. We also hear about Dusty Rhodes as he takes on Barry Windham for the U.S. title! We get the Tower Of Doom match and so much more! The Professor is your guide through this trip back in time!
On this episode of HDTGB comedian Alex Spears returns to join Jake & Zane to discuss WWE’s 1st Make America Great Again Bash. This PPV is very much of it’s time and so is this podcast for that matter. This episode was recorded in 2004 then put in a time capsule to be released 15 years in the future when podcasting existed. So, keep that in mind when Alex, Jake & Zane discuss racism, homophobic rap lyrics and women’s wrestling. All three men are far better versions of themselves in 2019 and so is Billy Gunn for that matter. Holy cow Billy Gunn looks so good in 2019 not so much in 2004.As always for corrections tweet at Jake @manscoutmanning or email him at Jake@SSLShow.com.Make sure you checkout HowDidThisGetBooked.com for more information on the next episode.Available on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Play, SoundCloud, YouTube & HowDidThisGetBooked.com

On this episode of the Comedy Suplex Wrestling League it's the pay-per-view event of the month, the CSWL Clam Slam! This PPV features the Clam Slam match where one of four wrestlers must climb a ladder to grab the clam, and inside the clam is a beautiful pearl. The pearl can be cashed in at any time for a championship match, or possibly hocked for blow. This show also features the semifinals and finals of the CSWL TV Title Tournament, as Ricochet takes on Jeff Cobb, and Matt Sydal challenges Punishment Martinez. Not to be missed as well is the debut of Glacier, and an arm wrestling contest between the cybernetic PeachMachine and Meng. Finally, the main event will be CSWL champion Chad Gable defending the strap against #1 contender, Samoa Joe of the newly formed faction, the Sovereign. CONTEST ALERT: The CSWL needs a logo! On this episode of HDTGB comedian Mike Buczek joins Jake & Zane to discuss a WWE PPV that delivers everything it promises, Survivor Series 1999. This PPV doesn’t age well most because they use Z instead of S to show plurality. Mike used to be a fan of the WWE in the much simpler time of 1994 and this is the first time he has seen wrestling since then. So imagine being a fan of Papa Shango then falling into a coma and waking up to find out he is really a pimp. There was one bright spot on the card for WWE's latest ppv prelude to another foreign ppv in Melbourne Australia. This PPV wasn't good it was...in a sense meh.Chaos and Cluster are the two words to describe the latest WWE ppv. I can give you as I always do my open ahd honest opinion about the 2018 edition of Hell in a Cell PPV.

Tobin, Cima and Tommie Gunz are back together to recap an incredible night in the UFC. This PPV card saved the year for the promotion. Never had you had so many people be so happy to be so wrong. Three titles changed hands on one card for the first time in UFC history. Cima and Tommie were in awe of Rose Namajunas knockout victory over Joanna Jedrzejczyk. She was David slaying Goliath. She was saying the Lord's prayer at weigh-ins in the face of Joanna screaming anything she could at her. Then we saw TJ Dillashaw shake off nearly getting knocked out at the end of the first round to comeback at TKO Cody Garbrandt in round 2. If that wasn't enough, Georges St-Pierre is now the middleweight champion. His fight was exciting! It wasn't trademark GSP. He went throught a cut up face. He adjusted to an oppoent he couldn't keep down and dropped an bigger, better striker and finished him by choking him unconcious. He adds to his incredible legacy. Even with all these amazing moments, we have to discuss, what comes next? Which bout will get a rematch next? Will GSP and Conor McGregor ever cross paths? Bonus Segment: Tobin discusses Deontay Wilder's sensational knockout win over Bermane Stiverne. He did what he was supposed to an opponent he out-classed? What more can he do to earn a shot at fighting Anthony Joshua. Will the Tyson Fury factor keep a Wilder fight away from AJ? Fan Poll says they want to see Tyson fight The Champ, Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs in a comeback fight! Can The Champ ruin everyone's plans. Will the British boxing promoters even let Briggs in a ring with Fury? Tobin maps out the ideal 2018 for boxing's heavyweight division.

Hey Yooo Chico, Im back with Halloween Havoc 99 the last Havoc review, moving on to Survivor Series for November. I had a blast hitting memory Lane watching all these old Classics. This PPV had some great matches but it also had some duds and fuck ups but its still a good PPV to go back and check out. I also touch on RAW and SmackDown's invasion angle and the up coming Survivor Series. NXT was good this week and booked an EPIC match for TakeOver. Regal brought back the 2 rings inside a Cage ,War Games with a Triple Treat Tag Match for the NXT tittles, a great WCW Classic. Hit that Subscribe Button Donkeys because November is going to be good, Full of Survivor Series Memories
On this episode of HDTGB comedian Crystalle Ramey joins Zane & Jake to discuss the long and the short of TNA’s Victory Road 2011 PPV. Crystalle, who may or may not be a poet knows very little about pro wrestling. She claims to have over heard the name Junkyard Dog some where in a conversation somewhere. Luckily TNA does a great job with their recap intro videos and Crystalle knows right off the bat to hate Dixie Carter. This PPV is know for it’s main event that only lasts 88 seconds which after watch this almost 3 hour long PPV was much welcomed. Hopefully, HDTGB fan base can quote Sting in agreement by saying,” I Agree”. As always for corrections tweet at Jake @manscoutmanning or email him at Jake@SSLShow.com. On this episode of HDTGB comedian/musician Normal Dennis returns to join Zane & Jake as they discuss WWE's 4th installment of the In Your House PPV series, The Great White North. Since the last time Dennis was on the podcast he has dipped his toe in the professional wrestling pool and has watched a little bit of it in his spare time. Although he hasn't seen much wrestling he still has seen enough to know that In Your House 4 is not good. In fact, some people who may or may not be Vince McMahon would call this PPV, "Horrible". Say what you will about the PPV it is a historic one. This PPV includes the debut of a future hall of famer in Goldust, the shortest IC Title reign ever and the most no sells of a DDT on a wrestling show ever. Please note that this episode of HDTGB may not be as awesome as Jerry Lawler's mullet was on this PPV but it's still pretty good. On this episode of HDTGB comedian & improvisor, Kevin Delgado sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss WCW’s replacement for Road Wild, New Blood Rising. Kevin’s only prior knowledge of pro wrestling was the death of Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit. So, making him watch WCW’s New Blood Rising completes the pro wrestling tragedy hat trick. In typical WCW 2000 fashion the PPV is named after a faction that has already dissolved before the PPV. This PPV comes off the heels of the infamous and in Jake’s opinion very creative Bash at the Beach PPV shoot promo by Vince Russo. So, this is at the height of Russo’s hubris and it signals the upcoming fall of WCW. Kevin constantly questions the rules or lack there of in pro wrestling and Jake & Zane have no answers. Mostly because the Canadian Rule Book wasn’t handy. Luckily though this show is book ended by some very solid matches because who doesn’t love Tank Abbott. Twenty years ago the WWF was transitioning as the wrestling business was changing. Bret Hart was now a heel in America but still a Canadian hero out to stop the rise of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. This PPV was the Hart Foundation's "homecoming" in front of one of the rowdiest crowds of all time. This IYH won "Major Show of the Year" in 1997 and our coverage is longer than the actual show!
Hello! We are back at last and have for you a very special bonus episode where we 'review' ECW Heatwave 1998, coincidentally during the UK's single 3 day hot weather period we get every year. This PPV bought us classics such as: The Dudleys jumping Jack Victory in a parking lot, Rob Van Dam being high/racist as fuck, mysterious Japanese wrestler-ninjas and New Jack cutting a promo where, to this day, I still have no idea what the fuck he was going on about.
Matt and Tony go old school in episode 17 of Hold the Applause! First, they break down the most highly rated cable wrestling show of all time, the February 5, 1988 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", or just "Main Event" at the time. Saturday Night's Main Event was a staple back in the late 80s and early 90s for WWF, and this episode received a 15.2 television rating which is just wild! Next, they reviewed one of the more famous WCW pay-per-views, WCW Spring Stampede 1994. This PPV had 3 different "4 star" matches according to Pro-Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, and was headlined by Ric Flair vs Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. Did it live up to the hype??? Hear what the guys have to say! Make sure to subscribe to Hold the Applause on iTunes, follow us on twitter @htapod, and visit our website at www.lifeinitnetwork.com!
Episode two and the second edition of our Pay-Per-REview segment. In this episode we review the WWE Royal Rumble 2001. The 2014 Royal Rumble was a well wrestled, and TERRIBLY BOOKED PPV. Josh Alba and Ben Conrad join us for the first several minutes of the podcast. Benel Germosen and I discuss what direction WWE could even be going in, and the role the internet is playing into these shows. No one's happy with this booking. This PPV will live in infamy.
This PPV was predictable through the first half. Everyone knew there were going to be no swerves. However, three great matches with great storytelling saved it somewhat. Randy Orton vs Keith Lee, Bayley/Sasha Banks vs Shayna Baszler/Nia Jaz and The Mysterios vs Seth Rollins/Buddy Murphy.
