Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 508 of the Chasing Tone PodcastIt's podcast day, and Brian has avoided being sucked into a funnel cloud, so we start the episode of with an extra dose of frivolity and nonsensical mutterings. There is camping talk and weather talk and Richard campaigns for moderate weather conditions. Wampler Pedals made a social media post involving Brian's take on the infamous Rockman and the guys chat about how it was created. There were some great April fool's gags this year and the guys talk about some of their favorites and Blake tells us all about the one he was involved in for Gun Street Wiring. Richard makes an apology. There was a question submitted to the guys about buffers and the guys go deep into the weeds with it, the importance of impedance, and other general nerd topics. Brian redefines important technical terms.Richard is a little nervous about an upcoming band rehearsal so distracts himself by talking about his pedalboard and the choices he made. Somehow this ends up back at a chat about the Rockman sound again and Brian makes musical impersonations. Blake shows Brian some vintage Bucket Brigade chips and he gets very excited. There's been some controversy with some deepfaking of guitar impresario and UFO enthusiast Rob Chapman and the guys debate it.Mullets aplenty, Cusack's jacks, Squelch, Harley Benton, Agnes Obel, The Specials  ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! Thanks to all our supporters - you are awesome! We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://modyourownpedal.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 506 of the Chasing Tone Podcast! There  is an unharmonious introduction to this episode and Richard finds the weirdest thing to be envious of and Brian admits to ramping up his plugging. Richard was surprised to learn that one of his favorite bands didn't make it big in the US during the lifespan of their lead singer and this leads onto a debate about awesome tones. And Guinness. And Blake's weird sausage based memories. Brian has been doing a bit of a press work and a couple of his articles and podcasts got spun out of all proportion on the internet - would you believe it? The Internet going crazy? Never. He breaks down what happens via a conversation concerning male pattern baldness. Germanium may get a mention. In a surprising revelation we discover that Brian Wampler doesn't set the rules for the global second hand market.Have you ever played Fortnite? Well if so you can now go and jam with official Fender instruments in a "Guitar Hero" type sub game and the guys discuss the clever marketing tactics that the big F have employed. Brian wants to put Wampler Pedals into the game.  Richard has a stupid idea about guitar strings and invents the slide-o-matic neck and the guys debate whether they would ever spend $50k on a guitar.  Stick poking, Matey boy, King Flippy, Strange water fixation, the Gibson Theodore, Synyster Gates ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! Thanks to all our supporters - you are awesome! We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Merch and DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Klon. There are few words in the guitar world that will get guitarists clamoring, foaming at the mouth, or shouting hysterically like the word Klon. (I'll let you decide if that is a negative or a positive in your own mind.) So much so that even the best clones of the legendary circuit can send folks right into a frenzy. And if those clones are using some of the same hard-to-source components as the original? Well, people lose their almost as hard as they do over an original! My buddies over at Wampler Pedals had just that happen at the end of last year with the Germanium Tumnus release, and I invited my buddy/co-host Richard Oliver (a man of many hats at Wampler) on the podcast to discuss just that. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake kicks off with a demonstration of his new super (annoying) powers (which nauseates Richard immensely) before the guys go straight in to some news from the music and Ai worlds. Someone has managed to make an Ai Kanye and it sounds particularly impressive so the guys debate what this means with their normal levels of detail and insight. Blake has been playing with the new BOSS Gigcaster which despite being used as a torture device against Richard is actually a very neat piece of kit.Wampler Pedals have released a brand new pedal - the all new Wampler x Cory Wong Compressor & Boost - and the guys are excited to talk about it. Richard is proud of his extended April Fool joke and Brian struggles with words. In the words of the super talented Cory Wong, this is not your Dad's compressor - this is an EGO style compressor but also has a great MDX style boost circuit. In a first for Wampler pedals it also sports an "Always on" function and a simultaneously active XLR output so you can go to your recording interface and your amp together. Blake has been to NAMM and tells us about some highlights. The guys are in love with the Binson Mechanical Echorec and chat a little bit about that. Richard makes bad jokes about the hall and some obscure Alan Partridge references before looking at some game-changing hardware that he thinks will change the guitar industry forever. The Terrorverse, Tractors and Snakes, Blue Tick madness, Richard Sings, I am the Lizard king, 98% Bono, The Seymour Duncan Hyperswitch...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!Buy the new Cory Wong Compressor HereWe are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Merch and DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake has got some new toys and it causes much annoyance to Richard within 60 seconds and this in turn leads to irregular vitamin suspicions and a tale of Blake's Grandfather's Mexican shopping adventures.  Meanwhile Brian has established what day it is and Richard schools him in the ways of time traveling and 90's rave moves. It is the final part of the DAW deep dive and it starts off with a disclaimer about terminology and professionalism in journalism. Brian then goes into the nature of Reverb and plugins and IRs and talks about using it in a recording environment a little before telling us about some Wampler Pedals that he are available from IK multimedia.  There is some exclusive plugin news and Blake has a neat hack for increasing your ability to add effects to tracks in your DAW. Richard then manages to confuse himself by multitasking and gets various things wrong multiple times. There were some leaked pedals which the guys discuss and pay particular attention to a control choice. Gibson have launched an expensive tribute to the original "Greeny" Les Paul and a friend of the show has bought one which leads to some silly product placement and a discussion about why it actually represents great value for money.Tetra high cannibal, Alien abductions, Morley volume pedals, Red Leicester, Dirty pot...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Merch and DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Ya'll, This is a big one; Mr. Brian Wampler! Brian is the reason I got back into to gear, talking my playing more seriously, starting to push more on social media, and to start this very podcast! Though if you don't know Brian essentially makes his living making "toys" for guitar player....... but on this episode I like how he refers to is as "providing the paint for the artist". Besides creating awesome pedals for Wampler Pedals Brian is also marketer and extremely savvy on all the social media outlets he uses to promote Wampler. Though most of this episode we just shoot the breeze and talk everything from Wampler, social media, self doubt, and so much more! I know you'll love this episode as much as I did recording it! Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Due to events beyond worldly control the team are recording back to front and it throws them off balance immediately; and Blake admits to a concert first that has pleased him greatly.  One of the largest brands in guitars has released a new range of pedals and the guys have an in-depth look without actually seeing anything other than a few pr snippets. We never promised accuracy! But we do promise moronic pedal names and designs.Richard speculates about mini pedals that Wampler Pedals may be developing and Brian makes some alarming revelations before telling us of that one time he had dinner with Paul reed Smith. Again. Brian released a video about the Mostortion circuit and how he would redesign it and slightly laments the performance of his nerdiest video to date (possibly*).  Do you buy guitar magazines anymore? The guys question the relevance of the printed format in todays increasingly online world. They also look at the research that indicates that men learn extreme metal solos just to impress other heterosexual men. There's also a hint about an upcoming guest... Well, according to Blake anyhow. Brian explains the topology of the circuit to a somnambular Blake and an ever sarcastic Richard. Did anyone mention John Mayer?  Brian then goes into the modifications in detail before Blake brings the conversation to food  again and Richard talks a bit about origins of the name and the graphics for the pedal.Richard signed up for the Dall E Ai image generator and he is mightily impressed and tells us of his early exploits creating foolish imagery of limited use. Wampler Pedals are super proud to have released the new Metaverse multi-delay pedal and the guys address some issues that they know are gonna come up before breaking down what the pedal is capable of and why Brian thinks it is a special pedal. We also talk about the origins, everyone falls asleep, Richard tries to explain things badly, and Travis gives us some feedback.  We've also released a full plugin suite to accompany the pedal and it is available free for anyone that registers a Metaverse. The Chasing Tone podcast has been around since 2014, and is a guitar-focused podcast created by Brian Wampler of Wampler Pedals.  George loves Jamie Lee Curtis, and so he was tickled to see her starring in yet another RFCP episode. The current streak is at 6 Jamie Lee movies in a row thanks to the Fall Break 2021 (if you count her cameo in Halloween 3 via the original Halloween on TV.)   Will George adapt to Canadian-style horror? (It isn't horror, really. It is ham.) How will Richard's English background affect his perspective on the great nation of Canada? Will Travis open his heart to a slasher he hated from the first moment? When did Dan become an expert on international currency exchange?   The Chasing Tone Podcast can be found here: https://www.wamplerpedals.com/podcast/   And after the episode, check out the Extra Credit Discussion group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/remedialfilmpod   Did you know we are now on YouTube? The Fender Telecaster celebrates its 70th birthday this year. In 1950 Fender's Broadcaster - quickly renamed the Telecaster after a legal complaint from Gretsch - became the first commercially available solid body electric guitar after a tense arms race with Les Paul and other competitors. Music and popular culture was forever changed. Today we are joined by three diverse Tele wranglers to discuss this iconic instrument - its strengths, quirks, longevity and legacy. Dr Zane Banks is a Sydney based guitarist who blazes on his '50s reissue Tele in The Banks Brothers. The excerpts heard in this excerpt are Zane playing hot-rodded rockabilly in Cruisin' Deuces. Shane Diiorio is a killer guitarist and hosts the hugely popular YouTube channel, In The Blues. As a gear reviewer he has intimately played a legion of guitars, but his go-to axe is always a Tele. Brian Wampler creates the world class Wampler Pedals seen on pedalboards around the globe. He is not only a huge Tele fan and player - Brian has worked two of the world's most beloved Tele players in Brad Paisley and Brent Mason to create their signature Wampler pedals. Well, The Quarantined Song Challenge has officially come to a close and the results are in, Chris Sanders was voted as the winner and had a ton of support from the community over on the YouTube channel as well as in the live chat. With a towering amount of vote his submission "The Garden Song" won out over everyone else! Stick around to the end of the podcast, I'm going to play you the song that won! After the closing of the challenge I held a poll to see if anyone would be interested in another, and the results were highly in favor of actually hosting another song challenge! So, the folder for upload is available in the description of this podcast/video and if you would like to get in on the fun, just upload your song submission there. I am including a few rules that previously did not apply as I have learned from the last song challenge that I should've placed a few stipulations on the legal side of things. Now, thankfully the music police are not knocking my door down but I did have to battle it out with some copyright claims on the YouTube channel as some of the songs that were submitted were already released and held under copyright laws. So, due to this, the rules will be a little more stringent so as to keep things streamlined and also to avoid copyright strikes on the channel. Details will be released about this on the channel and the Facebook page soon! New Merch Available In other announcements, I have populated the merch store with several more designs at the request of some awesome people within the community. Keep in mind that when you go to the site to check things out that there are a ton of variations available other than just size and color. For instance, you can get you favorite design on a coffee mug, a sticker, a skateboard, or even a shower curtain! Just look around and find something that suits your needs and help support the channel. New Ways to Support The Channel I've had a lot of people reaching out asking how they can support the channel and compensate me for the time I'm investing into helping others. So, I held a poll to ask what they would feel comfortable with - (what platforms, donations amounts, that kind of thing) Although most were very willing to go direct through PayPal there were still some who thought it would be nice to utilize the Patreon account as it has extra members perks built in. In light of all of this, I really aim to be as flexible as possible and at the end of the day people want to use what they are comfortable with. https://bit.ly/Support-HSS EAR TO THE GROUND THIS MONTHS 3 FREE PLUGINS 1- Wampler Terraform- Everyone who knows me, knows that I am a huge Wampler Fan. Currently the Wampler TerraForm pedal is available as a FREE download for both Windows and Mac users. Not too long ago Wampler Pedals did not have a multi-effects pedal in their arsenal and focused more on the individual boutique style that most companies have adopted over the years, however in November of 2019 Brian and his team unveiled the TerraForm Multi-Effects pedal. Since then it has been received very well. Now, in typical Wampler fashion, when they release something it usually exceeds the expectations of potential customers and long time users alike. The Terraform is no exception! When Wampler decided to jump into the multiFX market, they did it in style. This beast of a pedal comes equipped with 11 custom designed effects blocks, from Flanger to Phaser, Chorus to U-Vibe, Harmonic Tremolo to Envelope Filter, etc. Now, in one incredibly small package, you can control any of the 8 presets via midi, you can assign an expression pedal to control ANY of the main five controls, and you can run it in full glorious stereo or keep it in mono... you can even split that mono signal to route some effects to go before your drive pedals, or amp gain, and have the rest follow behind or in your effects loop! When you put the Terraform into your rig, you know that not only will you get that legendary Wampler tone, but you will get the most easy to use, hugely versatile and best sounding collection of modulations you could ever want. Brian Wampler is the founder and CEO of Wampler Pedals. Brian joins Aaron Sefchick, Joe McMurray, and Miles Harshman to discuss the world’s largest pedalboard, his favorite guitar effects pedals, how he spends his work-days and approaches design, and guitar amplifiers. Recently, Brian participated in breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest guitar pedalboard (with Rob Scallon and several other effects pedals companies). He tells the guys about his experience and about meeting Alex Lifeson (the guitarist of Rush). Brian tells the guys about his favorite pedals from Wampler Pedals. The guys want to know how he spends his workdays: from breadboarding to building plug-ins to creating content for social media. Brian gives insight into the guitar amps that he uses to test his effects pedals during the design stage. The guys also talk about the merits of running a pedal through a clean amp vs. a naturally dirty/overdriven amp.  They also talk about the virtues of amp simulators.  Brian tells the guys about his own Wampler Bravado amplifier. What is your guitar-gear nirvana?  Is it a trip to your local guitar shop, a trip to NAMM, or perusing the internet for video demonstrations?  Maybe for your gear curiosities you should also be looking to podcasts, as there are a few that do a great job of exploring this ever-growing industry.  On episode 49 of Fret Buzz the Podcast, Aaron Sefchick and Joe McMurray bring in Blake Wyland, the host of the Tone Mob podcast and a co-host of the Chasing Tone podcast (alongside Brian Wampler of Wampler Pedals). Blake tells Aaron and Joe about his background and how he got into the inner workings of guitars, amps, pedals, etc. The guys have an interesting discussion about how a new guitarist should get started finding the proper gear to achieve their desired tone(s).  Blake recommends starting with an amp simulator/amp-in-the-box to find the "base" amp sound(s) that you like.  There is a big difference between the sounds of amps made by Fender, Marshall, Vox, etc.  Blake then recommends getting a dirt pedal (overdrive or distortion) followed by a reverb pedal and a delay pedal. This leads to talk about preferences for using a clean amp and getting your overdrive/distortion from pedals versus driving your amp (turning it up enough for it to naturally compress and overdrive) and using pedals to shape or refine that natural distortion.  This obviously leads the guys into the subject of hearing protection! Blake talks about the music industry and how pedal builders tend to share a comradery and a mutual geekiness. Blake tells the guys about his top episodes of the Tone Mob, including interviews with Robert Keeley, Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem, Joel Korte of Chase Bliss Audio, and Richard Hoover of Santa Cruz Guitars. Next, Blake tells Aaron and Joe about his pedalboard (which is always changing).  He talks about his go-to pedals including the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive, the Emma Electronic PisdiYAUWot, the TomKat Green Muffer Fuzz, the Dr. Scientist Atmosphere, and the SolidGoldFX Electroman Delay. Blake also talks about amps, from the Chris Benson (a local Portland builder) "Vincent" to the Sunn Beta "Lead" to the Fender "Deluxe Reverb" and "Vibrolux." The conversation turns to building your own pedals and the large amount of labor (soldering!) it takes to build pedals, which is why they cost so much.  There is talk of Gibson's bankruptcy, low-end Gibson versus high-end Epiphone guitars, and profiling amps/amp modeling.  The episode ends with a dazzling tour of Blake's studio, filled with many beautiful guitars and amps, and an obscene number of effects pedals! Or do you take matters into your own hands?   Brian Wampler, CEO of Wampler Pedals, decided to take matters into his own hands.  Over a decade ago, he realized he just could not find the tones he was longing for.  So instead of being unhappy with stock tones, he started educating himself on electronics and tweaking and modifying existing pedals in an attempt to achieve the tones he kept hearing in his head.   Eventually, all of the modifying in the world wasn’t able to produce the tones he knew to be true to himself, so he started making brand new pedal designs from scratch that didn’t sound like anything on the market.  As a result, Wampler Pedals was born.   Brian joins us in this episode of Behind the Backline to share his story, from humble beginnings to full fledge production of his original designed boutique pedals, and his thoughts on where his industry is going and how his education background shines a light on what’s wrong with today’s education system for students who need to be properly nurtured and allowed to innovate and explore their creativity from a young age. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/behindthebackline/support

It's very convenient running direct in, whether late night recording, practicing at home, or gigging at church or a club. In this special “Tone Tips” episode of Chasing Tone, Brian compares running direct in with pedals into an amp (using a Two Notes Captor) versus running direct in with pedals only. PLEASE NOTE: You never want to run direct into your DAW or soundboard from the speaker output unless your amp has an output made for this reason.. All on this week’s Chasing Tone Podcast. In this special tone tip edition of the podcast, Brian demonstrates running a couple of different distortions and boosts into both a clean amp and the same amp turned all the way up which overdrives it giving it cool distorted tones. Basically, it's a "should I run my overdrive into a clean amp or should I turn my amp up and run the pedals into that?" podcast. You may like it, you may not. Hopefully you do. In this special Tone Tips edition, Brian tackles some questions from the Wampler Tone Group.. Ever wonder how much of the ideas that go into Wampler Pedals are from customer requests and how many are Brian just following his muse? He talks about it. Why are some amps just more “pedal friendly” than others? Is it truth or in the ears of the beholder? Brian takes a look at it.
