On today’s episode, I have the pleasure of chatting with Laura Gassner Otting. Laura is a highly successful entrepreneur and author who inspires people to push past the doubt and indecision that ultimately keeps their great ideas in limbo. Starting her career off as a lawyer, Laura quickly decided to drop her educational endeavours and follow a life path instead, that she was truly meant for her. Laura delivers strategic thinking, well-honed wisdom, and perspective generated by decades of navigating change across nonprofit, political, as well as philanthropic landscapes. Laura dares listeners to find their voice, and generate the confidence needed to tackle larger-than-life challenges. On this episode we dive into: Figuring out what success means to you. How failure is not the finale. Finding comfort in knowing that, well … nobody really cares! Focusing on plan A instead of plan B. How confidence comes from competence. How to conquer the thought “I will be happy WHEN…” How to be better for other people by first, being better for yourself The take-home: Laura credits her success to carving her own path in life. She believes that by following her intuition and listening to what truly makes her happy, she can live a well-balanced and accomplished life. She started this life journey by saying no to things that weren’t serving her. As Laura continued to carve her path and listen to her heart, she found herself serving on Hillary Clinton’s National Finance Committee, and she was also asked to do a TEDx talk - which became so popular that it launched a speaking career for her! Laura has now spoken across the United States and internationally to universities, companies, conferences, accelerators, TEDx, and the US Military. “I feel like I spent a lot of time in my life trying to fit in everyone else’s box, trying to be perfect for everyone else.” She then adds, “People think they can only be worthy if they perform up to the expectations of others and it turns out that our worth really comes from the inside.” Laura continues to inspire others to push past the doubt and indecision and encourages people to serve others by first serving themselves. “I don't think we are exhausted because we’re busy, I think people are exhausted and burnt out because they are doing what's best for other people, instead of what’s best for themselves.” She claims that she is relentlessly and unapologetically selfish with making herself better first so that she can be the best version of herself, for others. Pushing through self-doubt, prioritizing yourself, and following a path that stays true to what YOU desire is exactly how you too, can carve out your own path towards success! EP 54 X NOURISHING YOURSELF NOW Nutrition, and food are always a hot topic on our planet, now more than ever, as we navigate our home lives a lot more differently. What to eat? When? How much? From where? In what proportion to this nutrient? I've had clients say to me on numerous occasions, "I just don't know what to do or eat anymore, it's so confusing, and I'm not feeling any better"... or " Why can't I stop eating this, doing this, repeating this pattern?...  Today we are looking at some of these patterns, exploring our subconscious mind pertaining to the way we eat, and beginning to incorporate the Holistic Self (body, mind, soul) into the way we choose to nourish ourselves (no right or wrong way), as we go way beyond a physical body. I believe when we do this, we find the key to our rhythm of eating, and nourishing ourselves using food from the inside out!    LISA'S LINKS | A RADIANT LIFE.CA  INSTAGRAM Work with me (1:1 Sessions)  Reimagining Wellness Course (4 Week Self-Guided)

SCRIPTURE: Acts 21:17-24:21 (Acts 24:10-16)The last 8 chapters of Acts are a fast-moving story: after Paul arrives in Jerusalem, there is nothing the leaders of the church can do to keep him out of trouble with the quarreling factions of the Jewish leadership. He is repeatedly arrested and beaten, and in each instance where he is given an opportunity to speak in his own defense, he is cut off and interrupted. Finally, the Roman procurator of Judea, Felix, listens to Paul’s case, and Paul makes it clear that he has lived by his own conscience: what he is teaching is not meant to discredit or destroy Judaism but to extend it by joining it to the church’s teachings about Jesus. As we reflect on Paul’s defense, we want to explore how the message of Jesus unifies, rather than divides, our history.DISCUSSION/REFLECTION QUESTIONS:It is tempting to immediately dismiss the accusations against Paul made by the Jewish leaders of Jerusalem, but it can be fruitful to approach them with empathy: how are we also sometimes guilty of interrupting others or assuming the worst of their intentions? At root, the Jewish leaders’ resistance to Paul comes from their fear that he is abandoning the Law in order to expand the circle of their religion to include those they believe are “unclean.” They are worried that he is being too gracious with others, and that this will cheapen what they believe. Have you ever been frightened by others’ willingness to show too much grace to a person or people? When? How do you feel about this instance as you look back on it?Are there times when you have feared (or still fear) the church is too accepting of outsiders? One issue that divides even the Jewish leadership is belief in the “resurrection of the dead.” What are your beliefs about this? Why do you think this issue is so important to Paul (and to the Christian church)? What is one area in your life where you struggle to be accepting of others, and you would like to be challenged to show more acceptance? How can we support and challenge one another in this moving forward?

Marleah likens the sweet, sweet mix of Alex Trimble’s vocals with the steady groove of TDCC to 300 thread count sheets on the kind of bed you never want to leave. James compliments the parents (who were in the crowd right next to us!) of the talented Hana Elion in his, you know, signature way. Twice. SCRIPTURE: Malachi 2:17-3:5The middle sections of Malachi’s prophetic writings remind the Israelites of the specific practices they have allowed to fall by the wayside in their return from Exile, including the tithe, their commitment to marriage, and the quality of their offerings to God. But it is not until the end of the book that Malachi addresses the root reason for his people’s apathy: they have given up on God’s promises of justice. Malachi writes that the people cry out, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord...Where is the God of justice?” To this, God replies that his character has not changed and his justice is coming...but when it arrives, it will be “like a refiner’s fire,” and come at great cost to those who have abandoned their promises both outside and inside Israel. This week, we want to talk about the relationship between love and patience, which is a relationship that is at the heart of all prophetic texts. We want to explore the reality that waiting on a God whose passion is for all of us is always a difficult thing to do. But our hope is first and foremost in his character...and our trust that a good God must be unchanging. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:Have you ever felt the way the Israelites feel in verse 2:17 (“Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delights in them”)? When? How have you been able to process this in light of your beliefs about God?Malachi 3:1-2 promises that not only will God bring justice, but justice will be personified: first, a messenger will arrive...and then, God will come himself. Why do you think God talks about justice in this way? Why do you think God chooses not to carry out justice “from a distance,” or make a world where justice happens on its own? (These are tough questions!)The question for all prophets in the Bible--and for God!--is why must we wait? What does the book of Malachi offer as an answer to that question? Why is waiting important?Have you ever thought about God’s patience as something loving? What is hard to accept about that idea? What is easy? Where are you waiting for God’s justice in your own life? What lessons or challenges might come from your season of waiting? How can a community wait well together? What can we help each other remember?

Mental health and money are arguably two of the most taboo topics of discussion in our society. However, so many people are struggling with not just one, but both, depression and debt. It's important to recognize that while on a debt free journey, you may struggle with a depressive dip - or experience anxiety surrounding money. This journey is not always easy, and your brain may try to sabotage your financial goals and dreams. Thankfully, there are people in this community like Vee Weir from Vee Frugal Fox, who are open about their own journeys. Through her openness, Vee is helping to eliminate the stigma surrounding both subjects in our culture, and is sharing her best tips with us! In this episode, Sami + Vee talk about: Both of our mental health journeys Steps to take when dealing with depression while on a debt free journey Why it's important to take it one day at a time The importance of community When + How to ask for help The importance of saving, especially if you're struggling with your mental health Vee's non-traditional advice on saving while in debt Memorable Quotes: “You've got to take care of yourself first if you ever want to help anyone else.” -Sami “It's all a journey, it's all a process, it's something that you have to calibrate every day.” -Vee “What really really helped me was The Baby Steps. Just taking it one step at a time.” -Vee “When everything else in my life goes awry, I think, ‘What can I control?' I can my budget, I can control my numbers. Usually, when I'm super stressed or depressed you'll find me on my Mint App or writing out my budget.” -Vee “Sometimes I'll get anxious when other things are out of my control, and even just logging into my bank account reminds me that I'm in control of something.” -Sami “I'm a very future-focused person, and that was a lot of what drove my anxiety. I thought I was saving money for the future, but I realized that I'm actually saving for the present as well as the future because it brings me present peace.” -Sami “Keep on listening to Sami's podcast because it's amazing, and a revelation, and I love it.” -Vee “My mindset behind all of it is that if I can admit that I have depression, I have anxiety, I've been in debt…all of these things that are so taboo to talk about…and I can come out the other side of it, I'm laughing about it now, then there's hope for just about anyone.” -Sami Resources Mentioned: Podcast Home Page [A Sunny Side Up Life Podcast] EP. 17: How To Stay Sunny [Counseling App] Better Help [Vee's Guest Blog] 5 Tips To Survive Getting Out Of Debt When Dealing With Depression #debtfreecommunity on Instagram [My preferred bank for a savings account] Ally Bank (2.20% APY at time of recording) [A Sunny Side Up Life Resource] Set of 14 Budgeting Worksheets [A Sunny Side Up Life's Free 5-Week Course] Magic + Money WHO IS OUR GUEST?  Vee began her personal finance journey on January 4, 2016. Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” So what are your inconsistencies saying about YOU? Consistency begins with making a decision. A decision that commits. Are you open today to committing to seeing things differently, and redefining what it really means to be consistent? Trying to be the BEST will keep us being consistently inconsistent. Why? It’s not about being either best or better. Instead, let’s focus on B.E.S.T....redefined. Being. Excellent. Starting. Today. So how about focusing on excellence instead better or best? Because excellence starts today. Every day. The "All Or Nothing Syndrome" comes from how we define consistency. It’s time for a new definition. Redefine it. Ask yourself, “WHY?” Why do you do what you do? If you want to redefine consistency for yourself, take an honest look at WHY you’re doing what you’re doing. Then… Make a decision. Redefine it. Ask yourself WHEN? How about TODAY? Become consistent at living today. So, what if you didn’t have to do it EVERY DAY? But instead, you made a commitment to do it TODAY…whatever IT is for you. Live today. Live today. The rest will take care of itself. What if you didn’t have to do it EVERY DAY? But instead, committed to doing it TODAY? Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. For many years we've been helping people salvage marriages that appeared absolutely hopeless...not only salvage their marriages but make them good again...most better than they were before. That is why Marriage Helper exists (www.MarriageHelper.com). Our purpose is to help couples in trouble find a new way, see each other in a different light, discover a path to love again. We call it the LovePath. Most of the couples who come to our intensive three-day workshops have one spouse who wishes to save the marriage and one who wants out. Nevertheless, we witness three out of four marriages turn around and not only stay together but learn to love each other again. However, that means that some marriages don't make it. It breaks our hearts for the spouse who wants to save the marriage...for the children who are affected...for the friends and family of both husband and wife.We believe that any marriage can be saved. We encourage people to stand strong when their spouses stray, or are angry, mean, indifferent, cold, or any other of the hosts of hurtful behaviors. But we know that there comes a time to yield to the inevitable, to stop standing and move on with one's life. The question is: When? How do you know whether to let go or continue to fight for the marriage? In this program we provide guidelines to consider for all those who think it may be time to stop standing for their marriages. No, there aren't hard and fast rules. However, there are principles and things to consider that can help you make that decision. This program may give you the strength and motivation to keep on. It may give you the path to peace as you let go. We don't make that decision for you. We show you how to make it for yourself.Call in your comments or questions live during the program at 646-378-0424.

Webinar Marketing Podcast with Joe Daniel - Using Webinars to Build Your Business

You are unique. It's what makes you... well, you. But it does not make you buzzworthy. At least, not until you are buzzworthy. For most of us, that time is not here yet. We have to build our own buzz. So what are you going to do to build a buzz? How are you going to create that gotta be there feeling? You need to create a shareable webinar topic. Not just something that people will retweet. More than that. Something they'll share with their friends. I like retweets and likes as much as the next guy, but that's not the secret sauce. How do I know I've hit on a good one? When people are commenting on Facebook just to tag their friends: "John Smith you need to see this!" Or when they mention a co-worker on Twitter. That's how you know you've got something. That's what we're trying to make happen. Try these 4 tactics to build a buzz for your next Webinar presentation... Solve a Specific Problem Being specific will make people think of others. Delivering a presentation on hair re-growth? Bald Bob is gonna need to see this! Many businesses try to be too broad in their solutions. They don't want to miss out on big chunks of the audience. Smart business people want to dominate a small piece of the audience. You can always grow later. The problem you're solving may not be one that everyone has. But for the people who do, your solution might be something they can't live without! Tell Them When and How It's a good idea to tell people exactly how your webinar presentation will help them. Not all the details, mind you. Just the big picture. 5 Steps to Your Beach Body? What are the steps? Even better, 5 Days to Your Beach Body. Tell them how long. The When & How are what people can really latch on to. "All I have to do is follow these steps... I'll be there in no time!" Give Instant Results This is the toughest part for many of us. You want people to leave your webinar with a result. Something has already happened. Things are better. You'll lose an inch off your waistline during the webinar. Sound impossible? It probably is. But if you could back it up, you'd have a full room. Note that I do NOT recommend lying. If you can't do it, don't promise it. Those people will never become your customers if you lie to them. I always want my webinar attendees to leave with something they didn't have. Yes, they need to have something to take action on. A little inspiration.  But they better learn something. Even better is if they actually have something.  I've offered free downloads to webinar attendees. I'd like to do even more! I'm working on this so... I'd love to hear some ideas. If you've got an idea, go to Webinational.com/contact and tell me. Have a Contest This is a good one. Simple. Easy. I give away one of my information products (or have multiple winners) to attendees. They have to do something for it - like a retweet. Then I pick someone at random. You can give away something you have to pay for (iPads were the hot giveaway item for a long time). I think you'd get more from putting that money toward more advertising. But if you have really high end products it's not a bad idea. Be Different Football coaching products are well known for being boring. For as much personality as some coaches have on the field, they tend to be a little camera shy. They also deliver their information like it's heart surgery, instead of a game.  A while back I created a buzz by combining two of my biggest passions. I love Professional Wrestling and football. So for an upcoming webinar, I delivered my first ever Pro Wrestler promo. I talked 'em into the building. It was so different from what people are used to. The video had tons of likes, comments, and shares on Facebook.  It shocked a lot of coaches for being so different. A few thought I was crazy. Fine... at least I stood out. Be different. Find a way to make your webinar stand out from the crowd. Now Here's What You Don't Do... Do not lie to get people there. Be real and genuine. Make sure you can deliver on your promise. Do not be boooooorrrriiiiinnnng. No matter what you do, spice it up. Make it sound like the most exciting thing in the world.  Hopefully you think it is! I mean you chose this business! Don't create your buzz in the wrong place.  I didn't post my wrestling promo ad on forums about Professional Wrestling. I put it in places where football coaches would see it.  This is important with giveaways! If you teach people how to churn their own butter, the latest and greatest microwave giveaway might not bring the right people in the door. Now go create a buzz!
