Romans 8:14 — What is the doctrine of sonship? How might Christians practically deny this important doctrine? How may they be sure they are children of God? In this sermon on Romans 8:14 titled “The Father's Children,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones examines the teaching of sonship in various ways. The New Testament takes keen interest in sonship, as Dr. Lloyd-Jones says, because it is the great motive for sanctified living. Christians glory in the truth that the Father has taken special care in them as His children. However, they may practically deny their sonship in their prayer life if they are convinced it is more spiritual to offer distant or cold prayers because of God's holiness and majesty. Dr. Lloyd-Jones cautions against this extreme by appealing to the adoption as His children. With full assurance, he says, Christians can offer prayer to God because His presence is always with His children. Since they are led by the Holy Spirit into this relationship with the Father, they can be sure of their adoption. No matter faults or failures, they are sons and daughters of God. Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones expounds the apostle Paul's beautiful message on Christian salvation – the adoption as His children.
Pastor Dru Rodriguez urges us to hear and obey God by embracing both Scripture and the Holy Spirit—reading the Word while inviting the Spirit to soften our hearts. He encourages sitting with the Bible, listening for God's nudges, and recording moments when God speaks.

In Jesus Knows Our Hearts, Michelle Lazurek explores how Jesus’ divine discernment reveals the truth hidden within every heart—and how believers can develop that same spiritual sensitivity. Drawing from Mark 2:8, this devotional reminds us that while people see only appearances, Christ sees the motives, pain, and wounds beneath our words and actions. Just as Jesus lovingly confronted the Pharisees’ hypocrisy and discerned the true needs of those He healed, we too are called to invite the Holy Spirit to search our hearts, heal hidden hurts, and guide us in extending discernment and grace to others. Highlights Jesus’ discernment reveals the deeper issues behind people’s words and actions. Healing and leadership both begin with emotional and spiritual health. The Pharisees’ outward spirituality contrasted with the impurity Jesus saw within their hearts. God calls us to develop the gift of discernment through prayer and the Holy Spirit’s guidance. True healing comes when we allow the Spirit to expose and heal unprocessed hurt, fostering unity in the body of Christ. Join the Conversation How has God revealed what’s truly in your heart lately? Have you asked the Holy Spirit to uncover wounds or patterns that need healing? Share your reflections and stories of discernment with @LifeAudioNetwork using #HeartCheck #FaithThatHeals #SpiritLedLiving.
In this episode of Made for Impact, Petia Kolibova dives into one of the most common questions believers face: How can I tell if it's God speaking—or just my own thoughts? Through honest reflection and personal stories, Petia shares how to recognize the peace, clarity, and alignment that come from the Holy Spirit—and how to spot the difference between divine guidance and mental noise. You'll walk away with simple, practical ways to deepen your discernment, build confidence in your spiritual decisions, and tune your heart to God's gentle whispers. If you've ever wondered whether you're really hearing from God or just overthinking, this episode will bring peace, perspective, and renewed trust in His voice.
Today's Promise: Proverbs 1:23 There are two powerful promises packed into this one verse. Both promises are related because God's Spirit and His Word always go together. Pentecost fulfilled this Old Testament promise. The Holy Spirit would no longer rest on a person for a while. Now the Spirit would indwell those who put their faith in Christ. The second part of this promise focuses on God's Word. God will make His words known to you. When the Holy Spirit reveals and empowers the Word of God, it becomes a powerful force working in your life.
Atheism is often pointed out as a religion, and in many ways, the obsession with health and wellness has become its own secular form of legalism. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar remind listeners that while bodily exercise is valuable, it can easily become idolatry if it replaces worship of the Lord. Gluttony has long been a silent sin, rarely addressed in churches, yet food can just as easily become an idol as the pursuit of beauty or fitness. The guys emphasize the need for balance: a pastor should not be marked by obvious gluttony, but at the same time, believers must avoid falling into the opposite extremes. Humans are wired to worship—so the question is, what or who are you worshiping? There is nothing wrong with caring for the body, but when the motive is self-glorification rather than glorifying God, the line has been crossed. Historically, Christians have been known for fasting, generosity, and blessing others, rather than being consumed by self-care. When self-care becomes an idol, it often reveals a fear of death and a desire to earn immortality. The truth is that the outer man is wasting away, and eternal life is found only in Christ. Motivation determines whether health is pursued as an idol or as stewardship of the temple of the Holy Spirit. Oscar shares that he lifts weights to maintain strength and longevity, aiming to serve God and his family well as he ages. E.Z. adds that part of his drive is to avoid becoming a burden to his children and to maximize his impact for the Lord. The wellness industry has grown worldwide, but combining wellness practices with paganism introduces another possible danger. Practices like meditation or yoga often promise salvation through Eastern philosophies, but they are just another form of legalism that cannot defeat death. Eternal youth is a false hope; eternal glory in Christ is the true answer. Believers should desire to live fully until they die, striving to honor God with their bodies. The guys emphasize the practical benefits of activity, pointing out that humans were not made for a sedentary life in front of screens. Exercising strengthens both body and mind, and tackling tough challenges builds confidence and resilience. At the same time, they warn against being judgmental toward others who practice moderation. Rest, too, is part of God's design, and the Sabbath reminds believers that they are not machines defined solely by their productivity. Ultimately, the message is simple: avoid gluttony and laziness, reject the idolization of beauty, view health as stewardship, and above all, love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.Send us a textThanks for listening! Any attempts at finding joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment apart from God always leave us empty. Yes, there may be temporary moments of happiness and perceived satisfaction, but it is never lasting. Millions of people can testify that they never knew real joy until they knew Jesus as Savior and Lord.Main Points:1. As real as our physical hunger is, we have another type of hunger that is just as real. It's spiritual hunger. There is an emptiness that we will attempt to satisfy. Often, we will not recognize that this hunger is spiritual in nature.2. There is satisfaction found in Christ that cannot be found elsewhere. The sweetness of God's presence, the richness of His grace, and the fellowship with the Holy Spirit bring us to a place of being complete in God. There is no lack. Our needs are being met. Our hearts are full of joy, and our lives are at peace with God.3. Jesus did not simply die and rise again so we could gain Heaven. He gave His all so that we could know him and live in a relationship with the living God. It is in this pursuit of knowing and serving God that we find fulfillment.Today's Scripture Verses:Psalm 37:4 - “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”John 6:35 - “Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”Psalm 63:1-5 - “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: In this episode, we’re diving into a topic that’s vital for our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being: how to renew your mind. Have you ever felt stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts, worry, or defeat? You’re not alone. But the good news is that God’s Word provides us with clear guidance on transforming our thinking and experiencing peace, hope, and victory. In this episode, we’ll explore what the Bible says about renewing your mind, why it’s crucial for mental health, and practical steps you can take to align your thoughts with God’s truth. Let’s embark on this hope-filled journey together! In honor of National Train Your Brain Day, today we’re going to be talking about Breaking Free from Negative Thinking: Renewing Your Mind Through Scripture. Quotables from the episode: Romans 12:2 highlights the transformative power of aligning our thoughts with God’s will rather than the world’s patterns. Science shows that thought patterns are established through neural pathways in the brain. Repeated thoughts and behaviors strengthen these pathways, much like well-worn trails in a forest. This process, known as neuroplasticity, means the brain is constantly reshaping itself based on our experiences, emotions, and repeated patterns of thinking. We often believe things that aren't true because of cognitive biases and mental shortcuts our brains use to process information (like confirmation bias, negativity bias, emotional reasoning) While science describes how thought patterns are formed, Scripture offers a roadmap for transforming unhealthy or false beliefs through God’s truth, creating new neural pathways aligned with His Word. Renewing the mind is not a one-time event but a continual process of growth and surrender to God’s truth. Our emotions are the outward manifestations of the thoughts we believe. As such, our thoughts influence our emotions, decisions, and actions, shaping our overall mental health. From a scientific perspective, our thoughts matter because they influence our brain's structure, emotional health, and overall behavior. This scientific understanding underscores the importance of intentionally aligning our thoughts with truth. Scripture gives us the blueprint for this renewal, while science shows the profound impact it has on our mental and physical health. Research has demonstrated a connection between dwelling on negative or untrue thoughts and experiencing anxiety, depression, or hopelessness. In order to break free from destructive thought patterns, it’s important to replace lies with truth To recognize thoughts inconsistent with God’s Word, ask these questions: Does this thought align with Scripture? Is this thought producing fear, doubt, or condemnation? Does this thought reflect God’s character and promises? Replace these thoughts with Scripture. Gratitude shifts our focus from problems to God’s goodness and faithfulness. Accountability, encouragement, and prayer from fellow believers is important to ensure that we are surrounded by voices who will speak truth into our circumstances. Renewing the mind isn’t about striving in our own strength but relying on the Holy Spirit to guide, convict, and transform us. Renewing your mind is a powerful and transformative process that aligns your thoughts with God’s truth, bringing hope, peace, and clarity to your life. By identifying and replacing lies with Scripture, meditating on God’s Word, speaking His promises, cultivating gratitude, and seeking support from a godly community, you can break free from negative thought patterns and experience lasting mental health. Most importantly, remember that you’re not doing this alone. The Holy Spirit is your helper, leading you every step of the way. Let’s commit to this journey of renewal together and trust God to do a transformative work in our minds and hearts. Scripture References: Romans 12:2 commands: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Job 3:25 “What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Psalm 1:2-3 encourages us to meditate on God’s law day and night, promising that we will be “like a tree planted by streams of water.” Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Psalm 139:14 “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” Recommended Resources: Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner AWSA 2024 Golden Scroll Christian Living Book of the Year and the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Christian Living and Non-Fiction categories YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises from God to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, AWSA Member of the Year, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Devotional category, the 2023 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals YouVersion Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day version 1 YouVersion Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day version 2 Revive & Thrive Women’s Online Conference Revive & Thrive Summit 2 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 1 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 2 Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2020 Best Christian Living Book First Place, the first place winner for the Best Christian Living Book, the 2020 Carolina Christian Writer’s Conference Contest winner for nonfiction, and winner of the 2021 Christian Literary Award’s Reader’s Choice Award in all four categories for which it was nominated (Non-Fiction Victorious Living, Christian Living Day By Day, Inspirational Breaking Free and Testimonial Justified by Grace categories.) Friends of the Rosary,Today, October 15, the Catholic Church celebrates the Memorials of St. Hedwig (1174-1243) and St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690).Our Lord chose Margaret Mary Alacoque, a nun in the Visitation Convent at Paray-le-Monial, France, to spread devotion to his Sacred Heart and to establish the devotion of the Holy Hour. This was at a time when the Protestant rebellion and the heresy of Jansenism were trying to separate Catholics from the faith.Jesus appeared to Margaret Mary often, usually as the Crucified Christ, revealing His burning desire to be loved by all men.She communicated Our Lord's wish that the faithful receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of each month and observe the Feast of the Sacred Heart on the Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi. After nineteen years in the convent, St. Margaret Mary expired on October 17, 1690. Since then, many pilgrims to her tomb have sought and obtained favors.Through her apostolate of devotion to the Sacred Heart, many sinners have repented and found grace with God.Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Have you ever noticed how some of the most sacred words of our faith love, hope, and joy have been hijacked by our culture? They show up on coffee mugs, t-shirts, and Instagram captions, but somewhere along the way, their true, life-changing meaning got watered down. In this episode, we dive deeper into these three words, peeling back layers of cultural noise to rediscover their biblical and Catholic roots. Through Scripture, Church teaching, and the wisdom of the saints, I show you how these virtues aren't fluffy slogans, but anchors that can sustain Catholic women especially in midlife through seasons of change, loss, and new beginnings. ✨ What You'll Hear in This Episode: Why love is more than just an emotion or consumer slogan it's a choice, a sacrifice, and the very nature of God Himself. The four kinds of love in Scripture (eros, philia, storge, agape) and how they shape your relationships. How to recognize when “hope” has been reduced to wishful thinking and reclaim it as an anchor in Christ. Why joy is not the same as happiness, and how the saints teach us to rejoice even in suffering. Practical ways to bring these virtues into your daily life as a Catholic woman navigating midlife transitions. Jennie Guinn is a Catholic life coach, retreat leader, and founder of Catholic Moms in the Middle. With over 26 years of experience as an educator, administrator, and Director of Religious Education, she is passionate about walking with midlife women through life's transitions—especially those that come from unexpected changes in relationships, identity, or purpose. A devoted mother of three grown sons and proud grandmother of two, Jennie creates sacred spaces where women can encounter the love of the Father, be transformed by the Holy Spirit, so they can magnify Christ in their everyday lives. Jennie is the host of the Catholic Moms in the Middle podcast and a featured voice on Nashville Catholic Radio and Radio Maria USA, where she shares encouragement and faith-filled wisdom with women navigating the twists and turns of midlife.

In this crucial episode of Self Talk, Dr. Ray warns listeners to beware of a church or denomination that teaches the gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as prophecy, tongues, and healing, are no longer valid for today. This teaching distorts scripture, forcing it to align with preconceived ideas, and it's perilous. It can even border on blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. 2Pe 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. FROM THE VAULT: Gospel Daily with Josh Weidmann Set Apart By Christ: Before Time, You Were Mine, Part 1Series: Younique: Live A Life Set Apart By Christ Scripture: Ephesians 1 Episode: 774 Scripture Summary: In Ephesians 1, Paul opens with a greeting and launches into a powerful praise of God's eternal plan. He highlights how believers are blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ, having been chosen before the foundation of the world, adopted as God's children, and redeemed through Jesus' blood. Paul emphasizes the riches of God's grace, the forgiveness of sins, and the mystery of God's will to unite all things in Christ. He also speaks of the Holy Spirit as a seal and guarantee of our inheritance. Paul then prays that believers would have spiritual wisdom, know the hope of God's calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance, and the immeasurable power available to those who believe—the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him above all rule and authority.

Click here for more on this topic and other free resources - https://www.drjimrichards.com Is Doctrine Important? Absolutely! Sound doctrine is vital; it condenses the Bible's many teachings into clear, practical concepts that help us understand truth. However, humanity has a poor track record, often twisting God's truth into man-made doctrines and rules exalted above His Word. Jesus called these "the traditions of men," warning they make the Word of God "of no effect" (Mark 7:13). When doctrine is elevated, it destroys faith in God's truth. Sadly, the modern church often repeats this, with believers knowing more about denominational doctrine than the doctrines of God. Instead of seeking God's Spirit-led voice, many substitute doctrine—even using it to justify the life they want. This week, let's explore the dogmatic ways believers approach the doctrine of Jesus' second coming. People often develop extreme ideas in fearful times, looking for safety. But Jesus never taught that correct doctrine gives us peace. Our safety and peace don't come from doctrine; they come from a personal, intimate relationship with God, hearing and trusting the Holy Spirit. When the world feels chaotic, knowing and walking with God will give us peace, not our end-time beliefs. In the absence of a living relationship, people seek security in their beliefs and often become argumentative. Everything we need to overcome comes not from doctrine, but from intimate leadership from God. Join me this week to discover how to experience true peace and confidence—the kind that only comes from knowing God personally, and hearing His voice. Let's move beyond doctrine into the living relationship that makes us more than conquerors.

Daily Dose of Hope October 16, 2025 Scripture – John 7:25-53 Prayer: Holy God, Help us sit and reflect on your presence. Jesus, we need you. We go through our days distracted, sometimes even forgetting to pray or acknowledge you. Help us to be aware of your presence, knowing that you walk with us every step of the way, guiding us and leading us in all our words, actions, and decisions. We belong to you, Lord. Amen. Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope Church daily Bible reading plan. We are currently doing a deep dive into the Gospels and Acts. Today, we are finishing up John 7. Today's reading is challenging. We are still in Jerusalem at the Festival of the Tabernacles. If you remember from yesterday's reading, Jesus has come to the festival later, trying to be discreet, but after a few days, he does begin to preach and teach. The comments are flying. I want to draw our attention to several verses that might be easy to skip over. Verses 37-39 read, On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”[c] 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Let's talk context. According to the Mishnah, part of the oral tradition of Jewish law, water ceremonies are an important part of the festival celebrations on the last day. A priest would draw water from the pool of Siloam, with a special golden pitcher and then take it back to the temple to pour into a silver bowl next the altar. As the water was poured out, the priest would pray to God to send rain. In some traditions, the water-drawing at the Festival of Tabernacles was interpreted as the drawing of the Holy Spirit. So please know this was a really powerful moment. It is hugely significant that Jesus, on this same day, says that whoever is thirsty should come to him and drink. He continues that anyone who believes in him will have rivers of living water flowing within them. Basically, and make sure you get this, Jesus is saying that those who drink of the water he gives will become sources of this living water. It is similar to what he told the Samaritan woman in chapter 4 when Jesus tells her that those who drink of the water he gives will never be thirsty because he offers water that leads to eternal life. In chapter 6, if you recall, Jesus called himself the bread of life. Now, he offers living water that leads to quenches the deepest spiritual thirst. What's kind of fascinating to me here is John's comment about the Spirit. He makes this connection between water and the Spirit. John makes other connections between water and the Spirit (remember his discussion with Nicodemus in which he spoke of being born of water and the Spirit.). John says in this passage that up until this time the Spirit had not come because Jesus hadn't been glorified. But John makes this strong suggestion that the living water Jesus is referring to is the Holy Spirit which is to come. Believers will soon have the Holy Spirit in their physical body and that will fulfill all spiritual thirst. Think about that. If you have said yes to Jesus, then that means that the Spirit of the Living God is in you. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is in you. That means the Spirit that fulfills all spiritual thirst is in you. How does that sit with you? Do you see how huge that is? One small but important note. Just because the Spirit had not yet come did not mean the Spirit did not yet exist. We know that the Holy Spirit was with God in the beginning. As the third person of the Trinity, the Spirit was present at creation, we see his presence throughout the Old Testament, and we see him descend like a dove on Jesus during his baptism. But he would not be offered to the church until after Jesus was glorified and ascended into heaven. Of course, it was on Pentecost, Acts 2, in which the Spirit comes, making an incredible scene, and indwells the believers. As the chapter progresses, we see the Jews are debating amongst themselves. We can sense the conflict rising between those who reject Jesus and those who believe he is Messiah. The true conflict boils down to who is the most accurate in their scriptural interpretation. We see this back and forth debate. John, as author of this Gospel, is basically joining the debate, defending Jesus and making it clear that he is Messiah. But the Jewish leaders are frustrated. They want him arrested. They want him out of their way. They feel incredibly threatened by Jesus' claims and they want to shut him down. More tomorrow. Blessings, Pastor Vicki

Thursday, 16 October 2025 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. Matthew 13:40 “Therefore, just as it is gathered, the darnel, and fire – it consumed, thus it will be in the age's consummation” (CG). In the previous verse, Jesus explained who the enemy is, what the harvest signifies, and who the reapers are from His parable of the darnel. He next says, “Therefore, just as it is gathered, the darnel.” In the parable, the darnel was gathered first. As noted previously, this cannot be speaking of the end of the church age without severe modification of the typology, something that would make no sense. This is not only true from the idea of keeping the parable comparable to actual events, but also because of who Jesus is speaking to. Speaking about the church, something not yet understood by the disciples, would be comparable to someone today speaking about the terrible job the next administration is doing in handling the economy. The next administration is years away, and the candidates haven't even been selected. Therefore, at the end of the age of Israel's interaction with the law, meaning the end of the tribulation, the darnel, the sons of the wicked one, will be gathered up first. From there, Jesus says, “and fire – it consumed.” Before the wonderful millennial reign, the agents of Satan will be identified and eliminated. Like darnel, fire will consume them. Only then will the world be ready to enter into the final dispensation. To sum up this thought, Jesus says, “thus it will be in the age's consummation.” The word aión, age, is used. This is not its first instance, but as a reminder, it speaks of various things based on the context. It signifies an era or time span. HELPS Word Studies says it is “characterized by a specific quality (type of existence)”. In this case, it does not have to mean the end of the church age, even if that is what comes next. The type of existence that Jesus is currently speaking to (and about) is Israel under the law, not yet having received Him. It is the consummation of this age, this type of existence, that is being referred to. Keeping the boxes straight will keep students of the Bible from having actual contradictions in their biblical understanding. Life application: In this parable, Jesus speaks of fire as the disposition of the darnel. It is rather popular for people to overlook or diminish Jesus' judgment and the resulting effects of it. Some say, contrary to several passages, that condemnation is not eternal. Rather, people are just snuffed out and done. Others say that nobody will go to hell. Such notions would mean that the Bible is actually untrue in its statements and depictions. Rather, judgment lies ahead for all humanity. For believers, their judgment for salvation or condemnation was realized in their receiving Jesus' punishment, meted out to Him vicariously, at the cross of Calvary. However, even believers have a judgment of fire coming. To understand that, or to refresh yourself, Paul says – “Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.” 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 “Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 11 Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.” 2 Corinthians 5:9-11 Real judgment lies ahead for each of us. In Christ, it will be a judgment for receiving rewards or for the loss of what we could have received. How will we live our lives in Christ? The choice is up to each of us. When we fail to live appropriately, we will suffer loss, but praise God! We will be saved. Jesus has paid the full price for our sins. Condemnation no longer hangs over us. This is one of a long list of verses that assure us of eternal salvation. Thank God for His grace. Hallelujah and amen. Lord God, may we be faithful in our walk with You. We received Jesus' work, were saved, and at that time we were sealed with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee. May we now reflect that in our daily walk, pressing forward with Jesus as the fixation of our eyes. Amen.
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” — John 14:15-17 One Friday each month, the college where I serve as campus minister celebrates “Spirit Day.” On Spirit Day students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to wear black and gold, the college colors, and to attend the college sports games. In our culture we often emphasize having a strong school, work, and team spirit. Many of us develop a strong national spirit as well. As a result, we can tend to view the Holy Spirit more as a power than as a person. But there is much to gain when we realize that the Holy Spirit is God himself living in us (2 Timothy 1:14), along with God's power being present in our lives. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit “the Advocate,” or “Counselor” (John 14:26), and he tells us that the Spirit will convict us of sin and guide us into all truth (16:7-15). The Spirit will make known to us what belongs to the Father and the Son. There is comfort and joy in knowing that God himself lives within us to lead and guide us. Paul tells us that our bodies are “temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in [us]” (1 Corinthians 6:19). What an amazing blessing it is to have God living in us! When we ask God to lead and guide us, and when we actively follow him, a whole new life of comfort and joy opens up for us. The Holy Spirit living in us changes our lives and the lives of the people around us. Spirit of God, we are honored to have you living in us. Lead us into the truth each day! In Jesus, Amen.
Send us a textThe Holy Spirit has two places in the lives of believers today. He indwells us, marking us out as belonging to God. This is a personal residence that He takes up in each believer at the moment of salvation. He also fills each believer which also originates at but is a temporal condition. the purpose of the filling is to empower us to live the Christian way of life but the filling can be lost through sin and carnality. the good news is it can be regained through the confession of that sin and asking God to fill you once again. This message will teach you how to be consistently filled with God's Holy Spirit so your life will continue to count with God.
Has your son become your idol? That may seem like a ridiculous question. But for even the most well-intentioned parents, their son's happiness and success can consume their entire life, to the point that it becomes more important than their relationship with GOd. Take some time to sit with God and reflect on your relationship with your son. Are you willing to discipline him to develop his character, even if it means he is angry with you? Do you obsess over controlling what he's exposed to? It may be time to step back, ask the Holy Spirit to influence your son, and exercise your trust in God. It may be the best thing you've ever done for your son. For more ideas on raising boys to be godly men, visit Trail Life USA or RaisingGodlyBoys.com.

Send us a text In this sermon podcast from The Village Church in Tucson, Pastor Eric continues our series on a neo-monastic life on mission by exploring the theme of blessing. He highlights three ways blessing is expressed in both the Old and New Testaments, seeing people, knowing people, and calling people out. Drawing from Genesis 1, Genesis 12, and several New Testament stories, he unfolds how these ideas shape our relationships and concludes with practical ways to live them out. Support the showThe Village Church's sermon podcast is more than just a weekly message. It is an invitation into the great and ongoing story of God's work in the world. Pastors Eric, Mark, Susan, Daniel, and other leaders open the Scriptures not as a collection of abstract ideas but as the living, breathing witness to God's kingdom breaking into our midst. Each episode is a call—not merely to listen, but to take part, to step forward into the life of faith with renewed vision and purpose. Week by week, the pastors and leaders explore the deep rhythms of Christian discipleship—prayer, fasting, generosity—not as isolated duties but as part of a larger, richer, and more beautiful whole. They unpack these ancient practices in light of Jesus himself, the one in whom heaven and earth have come together. But they also turn their attention to the realities of everyday life—relationships, finances, the struggles and joys of being human—demonstrating how the gospel is not merely about what we believe but about how we live as God's renewed people in the present age. Come As You Are Series- Mary MagdaleneMark 16:9 “Now when He arose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons.”Mary Magdalene is mentioned several times in the Bible. She is mentioned in all four Gospels. That is unusual, as most stories are mentioned in one or two of the Gospels, but very few are mentioned in all four. This shows us how special Mary was to Jesus. It shows what an important role she played in His life. The Bible doesn't tell us much about who Mary is as a person, but it does tell us a few things.First, it tells us in today's verse and also in Luke 8:2 that she was delivered from 7 demons. Second, we know she was present at the crucifixion. Third, we know she went to anoint Jesus's body in the tomb after his death. Lastly, as today's verse tells us, Jesus appeared to her first after He was resurrected. Of all the people in the world that Jesus could have first shown himself to, He chose Mary Magdalene. That is pretty cool. Again, Jesus is showing us that our ways are not his ways and his ways are not our ways.If we had to choose someone to be the first person who saw Jesus, I don't think we would have chosen Mary Magdalene. I think if it were me, I would have chosen Mary, his mother. Or what about Peter? He was chosen to be the rock on which the church would be built. Why wasn't he the first? Jesus is constantly doing things in the Bible that we don't understand. He is doing and saying things that shake things up. I am sure Jesus had His reasons for choosing Mary Magdalene to be the first to whom he revealed his risen self. I am sure Jesus has his reasons for choosing you, too.Jesus saved Mary Magdalene from 7 demons. Do you feel like you need to be delivered from some demons? Do you feel like you are struggling in an uphill battle? If so, you are not alone. We are all fighting something. One great thing about this story is that it shows us that Jesus doesn't just heal us or free us from our demons and then walk away. He stayed with Mary Magdalene, and she stayed with Him. She became one of His followers. Are you one of his followers? Do you stay close by Him and listen to all He says? Do you try to get to know Him and to spend time with Him?Mary did. She put in the work. She was so grateful for the freedom that Jesus gave her that she stuck by His side, trying to learn all that she could from Him. We can do this too. We can't follow Jesus around as one of His disciples anymore, but we can listen to all He says by reading scripture. The New Testament is full of Jesus's actual words. We don't have to guess who He is, or what He said. It's all in the New Testament. There are actually verses in the Old Testament that talk about Jesus as well. As you can see, even though Jesus is not walking on earth, we can still be His followers and we can still get to know Him.Even though we don't know why Jesus chose Mary Magdalene to be the first person to see him alive, we do know that He did choose her. Jesus is choosing you, too. I don't know what He is choosing you for, but I know that He is. I know you don't think you are worthy, and you might not even feel up to the challenge, but He is calling you anyway. You might worry that no one will listen to you or that no one will believe you if you try to share the message of the Gospel with others. Guess what? You wouldn't be the first person they didn't listen to. The very next verse after today's verse says, “She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.”Just because Jesus chooses us doesn't mean everything is going to fall into place and be easy. We live in a broken world, and not everyone will see what Jesus sees in you. Not everyone will believe what you have to say. Not everyone will support the calling God has placed on your life. That is ok. Jesus also appeared to two other disciples, and when they told everyone, no one believed them either. Just because others didn't believe them doesn't mean what happened wasn't true.Of all the people in Jesus's life, He chose the one who had been delivered from demons as the one to reveal His risen self to. He didn't choose the one we would have chosen. He didn't choose the one who was perfect and blameless. He didn't surround himself with people who were perfect and blameless. He surrounded himself with regular, everyday, ordinary people like you and me. We don't have to clean ourselves up to be around Jesus. We don't have to heal ourselves of all our demons before we come to Jesus. Jesus healed Mary of her demons. She didn't wait until she was healed to come to Him. She couldn't have healed herself of her affliction. She needed to come to Jesus as she was, and He healed her. He will do the same for you. Come to Him with all your baggage. Bring your demons. Bring your fears and your worries. Bring all that you have to the foot of Jesus, and He will heal it. He will take all of that from you, and He will replace it with love and with peace. Come to Him just as you are, and He will take care of everything else!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode. Lord, we want to come to you as we are. We want you to free us from our demons. We want you to choose us when you could choose anyone. Lord, we ask for you to help us come to you. Help us get to know you. Help us turn our demons, fears, and worries over to you. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you just as you are, and so do I! Not every message, voice, or feeling we experience is from God. In our daily prayer and devotional, the apostle John warns believers to test the spirits because our emotions, cultural influences, or even spiritual opposition can lead us astray. God’s Spirit always aligns with His Word, glorifies Jesus, and produces peace and holiness in our hearts. When you face decisions or conflicting messages, take time to pray for discernment and measure everything against Scripture. If what you sense points you closer to Christ and aligns with biblical truth, you can move forward with confidence. If it distracts or divides, wait on God’s timing and continue seeking His direction. Discernment takes practice. The more time you spend in God’s Word and in prayer, the more clearly you’ll recognize His voice amid the noise of the world. God has promised to guide you faithfully—trust Him to do it in His way and His time. Today's Bible Reading: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God… This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God…”— 1 John 4:1–3 (NIV) Key Takeaways Test every spirit. God’s truth never contradicts His Word. Keep Jesus central. The Holy Spirit’s leading always exalts Christ. Check the fruit. True guidance produces love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control. Wait on God’s timing. Rushing ahead often leads to confusion. Seek wise counsel. Godly community helps confirm God’s direction. Let’s Pray Dear God,Thank You for reminding me that not every spirit or voice I hear is from You. Forgive me for the times I’ve trusted my emotions or rushed ahead without seeking Your wisdom. Teach me to test the spirits and recognize what is truly from You. Guide me through Your Word and Your Spirit, and help me make choices that glorify Jesus. Guard my heart and mind from confusion, and let Your peace lead me.In Jesus’ name, Amen. Related Articles Looking for more on discernment and hearing God’s voice? Justified by grace, believers are called to devote themselves to doing what is good. Paul warns against foolish controversies and divisive individuals who reject correction. These people are to be rejected. The letter closes with personal instructions and a call for believers to be productive and to meet urgent needs, ensuring that their lives reflect the fruit of grace. We were once lost, ruled by pride, anger, and selfish desires. We remember this not to shame ourselves, but to remain humble. God saved us through His astounding mercy. He washed us clean. He gave us new life through the Holy Spirit. We did nothing to earn it. We now live differently. We speak with kindness, choosing peace over arguments and divisive impulses. We pursue what is good, caring for others with urgency. We meet needs without delay, showing the world what grace has done in us. We remain devoted to good works, reflecting the goodness of God not only in belief but in action. We live purposefully, expecting others to be loving unifiers, because we have all been changed. Ever-present God, thank You for saving us, not because of what we have done, but because of who You are. Your kindness changed everything. You washed us clean. You gave us new life through the Holy Spirit. Help us to live in a way that honors that mercy. Teach us to speak with grace, to act with compassion, and to pursue what is good. Keep us from arguments that divide and distractions that weaken our identity in Jesus Christ. Let our lives reflect the beauty of Your grace and Your powerful renewal. May good works flow from hearts transformed by You. Thought Questions: How does your attitude toward the governing authorities and powerful entities show others the value of Jesus and His kingdom in your life? Has the Holy Spirit renewed you, and has He been poured upon you richly through Jesus Christ? How will your life show this beautiful truth? Do Christians sometimes dispute and divide in ways that displease Jesus? How do you handle disagreements to ensure unity and love endure?

Romans 8:12-13 — The Christian is called to deal with sin in a radical way. The language the apostle Paul uses is “to mortify flesh.” But what exactly does this mean? How does the Christian kill sin? In this sermon on Romans 8:12–13 titled “Sin and the Body,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones examines the passage and looks deeper into the doctrine of sanctification. Specifically, he gives attention to the practical expression of sanctification. He gives both negative ways to mortify sin and positive expressions. What must be remembered, he says, is that the Christian is not powerless against sin. Many false views of the doctrine of sanctification teach this. However, the biblical teaching is that the believer has the Holy Spirit indwelling them. They cannot rely on joyless legalism. Instead, they gaze their attention on the glorification that awaits them. While the Christians practically shun darkness, lust, and enticement, they also expose and denounce immediately any evil that comes out. More importantly, they remember that they are God's chosen means of representing Him to the world. Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones gives a pastorally-sensitive message on sanctification and holiness.

TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, where together we journey through the Scriptures and discover the heart of God for our lives. In today's episode, Host Hunter leads us through readings from Nehemiah 13, Malachi 1–2, and Acts 4, exploring themes of faithfulness, boldness, and the transformative power of God's Spirit. As we witness dramatic moments like the shaking of the early church's meeting place and the call to live lives of generosity, selflessness, and hope, we're invited to let the Spirit shake things up in our own hearts—especially as we approach seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Join us as we pray for boldness, reflect on the meaning of true worship, and are reminded once more that every single person is deeply loved by God. Grab your Bible, settle in, and let's step into the story together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: There's a whole lot of shaking going on. Peter and John return to their community after being interrogated and threatened for boldly declaring the name of Jesus. These men, considered ordinary and untrained, stood before powerful religious leaders and testified to the truth of Christ resurrected. And after this confrontation, after choosing faithfulness over fear, they come back to their friends—and something remarkable happens: as they pray together, the whole place is shaken. They are filled again with the Holy Spirit and preach the word of God with boldness. What does this tell us? Wherever the Spirit of God is, things get stirred up—hearts are awakened, priorities are shifted, lives are refocused away from self and toward others. This is the story of the early church, but it's meant to be our story too. God hasn't stopped shaking things up. When we pray for boldness, for selflessness, for generosity, God answers. He fills us with the courage to embody the hope of Christ, just like he did with those first believers. As we look ahead to a new season—the holidays, filled with hopes, distractions, and busyness—it's time to invite God to shake things up in our own hearts. The message we carry is one of joy and peace: “Joy to the world, the Lord has come. Peace on earth, goodwill toward men. Emmanuel, God is with us.” These aren't just sentiments to be remembered in December—they're truths meant to be lived out, to become visible as we let God's Spirit work through us. Let's make this a season where we pray deeper, where we ask for boldness to declare that every single person is loved by God. May God's joy be our strength, his Spirit our guide, and may we become heralds of hope—proclaiming with our words and our lives that Jesus is risen, that he is present, and that his kingdom life is available to all. That's my prayer for my own soul, for my family, and for you. May God shake things up—in us, and through us. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen.
