Joining me in today's show is friend and fellow registered dietitian, Danielle Omar. Danielle -- an integrative dietitian and nutrition consultant -- is the co-creator of my new Fasting + Food program. We share a mutual love of beautiful eyelashes (she first appeared on the show in The Eyelashes Episode), plant-based eating and of course, fasting for longevity. When Danielle and I first started our careers as registered dietitians, therapeutic fasting for longevity was almost unheard of. Fast forward to today and fasting has become THE thing to do. And while many of the popular fasting programs you hear about may offer some benefits, most of them don’t offer the benefit Danielle and I are most interested in -- the benefit of increased longevity. We’ve personally been studying the relationship between fasting and longevity and found there’s a ton of confusion about what fasting really is, and what results you can expect from doing it.  In this episode, we discuss: The various definitions of the term "fasting" How/Why therapeutic fasting for longevity is different from intermittent fasting (check out The Intermittent Fasting Episode) The importance of longterm fasting to turn on the process of autophagy What autophagy is and why it's so important for longevity The importance of understanding "why" you want to fast How therapeutic fasting is possible with the assistance of food The potential benefits of a longterm, food-assisted fast How hunger and a "hunger reset" play an important role both during and after a food-assisted fast We spend the second half of this episode discussing in greater detail the program we co-created -- first for ourselves, then for others -- to facilitate a long-term therapeutic fast. Fasting + Food is a do-it-yourself therapeutic fasting program that allows you to fast, while also eating a few fresh, whole foods and recipes you make at home. While it may seem counterintuitive to fast and eat food at the same time, with the right calorie level and the right macro-nutrient mix, it IS possible to enter a state of metabolic ketosis that closely resembles that of a prolonged fast. This is a continuation of our 9-16 Show. By request of one of our followers, tonight’s topic is about how to find a healthy relationship, after you have been in a toxic one. It sounds simple, and it can be, but it is not always easy. There are many reasons that people wind up in relationships that are unhealthy or toxic, and those reasons need to be addressed first, before any kind of meaningful and long-term progress can be made. This topic is not necessarily about a mental illness issue, but it definitely can impact our mental health when things are not going well. Also, there can be additional issues in relationships that might be caused or influenced by a mental health issue. Being in a healthy relationship is unfortunately not a skill that is built in to our society, culture, or educational system, as likely to be taught to most people before they reach their teens, when they begin forming a relationship history. Because of this, we will look at healthy relationships at a basic level, and how to adjust our choices and patterns to work towards having them. In our last episode, we discussed: What is a Toxic Relationship? What is a Healthy Relationship? Tonight, we will discuss: How/Why we end up in Toxic RelationshipsWork to do before a new, healthy relationship. We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia in "The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls," followed by our topic discussion. Please follow our bi-weekly, Wednesday evening shows, at 11 pm EST/EDT. We will have a new topic for you in two weeks!

Welcome back to the fuel your legacy podcast each week we expose the faulty foundational mindsets of the past and rebuild the newer, stronger foundation essential in creating your meaningful legacy. We've got a lot of work to do. So let's get started. As much as you like this podcast, I'm certain that you're going to love the book that I just released on Amazon, fuel your legacy, the nine pillars to build a meaningful legacy. I wrote this to share with you the experiences that I had while I was identifying my identity, how I began to create my meaningful legacy and how you can create yours. You're gonna find this book on Kindle, Amazon and as always on my website, Sam Knickerbocker calm.Welcome back to do your legacy. today. We have a great friend of mine on Sean Christiansen and I actually met him at an event that I was speaking at and I hadbeen in contact with a few different people who have done similar things hypnosis, and neuro linguistic programming I've actually participated in as a client and learned how to do certain levels of it for for my clients in that. So when Imet him, I was like, I want to one, I have them on my podcast because we need more hypnotists on our podcast, but to want to know, kind of the ins and outs there. So we've met a few times, and I'm just excited to have bring him now to you. So you can share one of the benefits, how this has helped him and kind of where he sees this going for his life and then the future and how it's connected to his latency. Fair enough. Sure. Yeah. Sounds good. Awesome. Well, with that, john, go ahead and share with us your history and feel free to take as long as you need, right. Short of don't take don't take forever actually. But yeah, take take some time and let us know exactly. The storyline of how you came to where you are and became who you are today. Okay, cool. SoSo, I guess it starts back in high school when I was studying psychology in high school, I was studying at Dixie High School at St. George. And I was studying hypnosis, studied psychology. And in one of the classes, we had hypnotist, come to our class. And he said, you can cut therapy into a third of the time, because you get to the root of the problem. I thought, Oh my gosh, that's so cool. That's what I want to do. So I started studying hypnosis and everything that I read was right. He said that you can get through the problems. At the time. I thought that's what I that's definitely what I want to do. So I became a hypnotherapist. First out of high school. I was reading as many books as I could. And then I went to an academy up in Salt Lake called the academy for life management where I studied hypnotism and became a certified hypnotherapist, which is what we could call ourselves back at that time in 2003. It was illegal to call yourself a hypnotherapist. Now it's not unless you have a mental health certification. Anyway, so I went to school became certified, I opened up an office called the Alpine hypnosis center andHello, and I opened that in 2003. And I did that there until about 2017 I must say, back in 2004 I became a stage hypnotist. I started washing station with this and thought that is really cool. That's what I want to do. So I joined this hypnotist up in Salt Lake for a couple years, mentored under him, started doing my own shows. And then I rebranded myself as was called the hypno hick. So, that's kind of a fun, fun little thing. And so I've kept that name for for, gosh, 15 years now. So anyway, so yeah, I've I was, I've been hypnotic for a long time. And in the meantime of that, I suppose still was doing one on one sessions with clients and got really interested in forensics hypnosis, so I started studying forensics hypnosis got certified in that in 2014. I also became certified as an instructor for the National Guild of hypnotists, where I can certify other people to become hypnotist as well. So that's kind ofbackstory in the meantime of all of that I've always wanted to be a public speaker. So that's kind of what I'm doing now. That's my next goal in life is, is to start doing those and doing retreats and, and workshops and all that kind of stuff. That's incredible. So I'm curious what and because I also says psychology and I thinkit's fast it's just fascinating really that we bothhad a similar goal How can we do this faster? So when when I was going through a psychology school, I was like, this does not sound fun, like sitting there listening to people's problems over and over and over. Not resolving them what and it just that's what it seems like to me most therapists do. Don't take offense if you're a therapist. I'm not trying to brag on you. But that's just that's my experience. I am I think there's value there. I went to therapists for many years of my life and I think that there's nothing wrong with going to a therapist for that purpose. ButThere does come a point in time where you maybe want something more effective or to actually heal that trauma. Why do you think it is? Because most people are going to hear about hypnotherapy or hypnosis at some point during psychology classes as part of education. Why do you think some people will gravitate towards another be right now? I don't want to do that. If it's that much more effective, why is it not being more widely used? I think we will have a big fear about what hypnosis is, and a misconception of what it is and what it can do.I was actually talking to a master psychologist who is out of Salt Lake who's now a hypnotist. And what he was taught to do was, they have to diagnose the problem, right? That's their big job is okay, you're telling me your issues. I've got to diagnose something, because they work in this corporation where a psychiatrist cannot prescribe medication. And so now it says, Oh, this is going to take seven or 10 years to get over. Where hypnosis is not like that hypnosis is let's get you in. My goal is to help you go out and beyond.Your own for this one for three, four or five sessions, and we're done.So I think that there's just kind of that that old mentality of, Oh, this is going to take a long time you've been diagnosed with this issue so that we're gonna talk about it. As far as in class or in high school, I don't know why some people gravitate towards it. And some people don't I, I just want I just knew that's what I want to do. So there was there was no question. That's fascinating. So with this diagnosis, saying this is, I mean, there's so many layers deep here, and depends on how deep we want it to go. How political we want to go. Sure. I'm not saying we have to go all that all the way down the rabbit hole, but I think it's a good rabbit hole to at least acknowledge, and that isthe concept of diagnosis. So they're one of the things that I found in psychology that, again, don't take offense to these examples. These are super stereotypical, I understand that. But it's like a girl cop. Right? A female cop has something to prove that she's tough enough that she's able to do it in the military to a femaleleaders in the military, they've got something to prove that they can be just as good as a man in those roles. And in the, in the medical industry. For a long time, like, almost centuries, psychology was looked at as like quack medicine, like crack science, it wasn't actually science. And so, from my perspective, this is just my own education. And what I saw, there was this push inside of the psychologydepartments and field to push towards a more quote unquote, scientific based, they were diagnosed with this, this was the problem, right? Way of recording things so that they could be accepted by the grid, greater medical community, because they just weren't getting accepted. And so, to me, it seems like theif you're worried about being accepted as like a medical doctor and having the credentials not that, then it almost it lives. You in the ability to really use all of yourtools because only certain tools are looked at as effective from the medical journey perspective, especially when it comes to diagnosis, which then turns into psychiatry, which then turns into pharmaceuticals, which then turns into where the money is coming, which is whyif you want to get paid, I mean, I know a lot of psychologists don't get paid very much, because they don't get paid very much unless they have pharma behind them. That's right, this again, this is my experience. So you can crucify me online or whatever you want to do, but like this is it this is my belief system from what I studied. I was I went to school for psychology to sound like I didn't participate to one degree or another in this. This is just was my observation and ultimately why I left because I wanted to find out how do I help somebody faster thanthis diagnosis. Now you have a DD and you're ruined for the rest of your life like nowRight, what percentage of the population doesn't have a DD? What's wrong with it? It's a Okay, how can we use that to benefit a person and look at it as a gift rather than not? That's my perspective. But I found after going through psychology, neuro psychology, biochemistry, and which I want to get into some levels of that when it comes to like, why hypnosis works, but down to Sociology, for me, I found the most effective way to shortcut somebody so was to not have it become a problem and teach them how money works. Because, statistically, most of the social issues that therapists are seeing their clients for our result of lack of money, or our co existence in a home where there's lack of money, understanding how money works, it's a cause but that's hard to prove. But high correlation, high correlation between the two. And so that's why I'm in finance. You You have the same objective, how do we shortcut this successful healing of this, and you went into hypnosis and there wereWhat are your thoughts though on on from that perspective, why they why they're pushing for diagnosis. I think it's just how it's been done forever since Freud is like we, we just want to do this. And so they're just following the tradition. That's the way grandfather and great grandfather and everybody else before then did it. So that's all they really know. Except for I believe that the insurance companies and the pharmaceuticals are working together to make this all happen. Soso so again, from my perspective, again, going to the psychologists that I went to therapists, isn't kind of the objective, that this is the irony that I find in the industry, and it probably happens in my life all the time. So you can call me out on as well, but like the objective of a good therapist, from my perspective, okay, I can use this word a lot in the sentence. From my perspective, the objective of the therapist is to help me see a new perspective. Like they're professionals, hopefully at helping me see a new perspective of an event. And yet, it seems so hard for them to accept a different perspective on their life. It'sIt's a weird irony I don't understand like you go and try and talk to a therapist about them right now. That's not how it works. Like, you're so closed off that you're the only way that it could be right? How Why should I trust you to educate me on a new perspective of my life, when you can't even see a different perspective on your own life? I think that's a huge, huge, huge issue is people who become therapists do it for either the money or because they think you're gonna help people, right? Problem is, is they don't go through their own crap growing up and going through their own stuff. So how can they help somebody if they've never been through it? So people become a famous psychologist that they don't have their own family. So exactly what we're saying is they don't have their own stuff together. Right. So I do believe that people need to go through their own stuff. That's what makes a really good therapist. Yeah, I hundred percent agree. That's That's interesting. So now I'm curious and maybe you have the answer. MaybeI think you would, but at what point like what changed in society that you used to be able to call your self and hypnotherapist, but now you can't unless you have extra credentials. So what changed? Why did they start making a distinction? Again, because this is the separation between the quack and the credential. So what what changed in our economy and society in medical environment that demanded that change? So, the big talk about it is that the psychologists and psychiatrists were upset that they were calling themselves therapists when we haven't gone to as much schooling as they did. So why can you call yourself a therapist if you go to hypnosis? That's the biggest reason is they don't want to compete with us. We can help people change so fast to get there. Now we're taking their clients. It could be a conspiracy theory as to why that's happening. I don't know. But that's that's what I've heard. And that makes sense to me. Well, somebody wise once said, The ultimate Sufis that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication sometimesI think you can tell somebody that truth right now can't be that easy. Probably is that easy. I want to believe something that's stupid, simple and like, oh, that actually like, that's a logical it's an idiotic move, but it's logical like that, that makes sense based on human emotion based on ego based on these principles of like humanity. That actually makes sense. Now us trying to explain all these other justifications of why we did something that sounds like a big chain of justification so that you don't know why we did it. We're that's what that sounds like. So that's funny. So with all of your education, and what have you found to be the most enjoyable part of hypnosisso two parts of the business right so that the therapeutic side or the healing side or the whatever you want to call it side, right, the one on one client side and then I also have the the comedy stage hypnosis and they both have benefits for two completely different reasons. One is I love entertaining. That's been my whole background is I love entertaining people and I love to create an experience for people. So that's actuallyThe new business couldn't call the shots versus an experience because that's what I want to create. And that's enjoyable to make people laugh. But then you have the other side, which is when you're helping somebody to overcome something. And the cool thing about hypnosis, you can see instant change, or they wait, they open their eyes. They're like, Oh my gosh, that makes so much sense. And so they just had this instant gratification. Now, here's an example. I worked with a 12 year old wrestler, and he was competing or comparing himself to his brothers. So he was doing kind of poorly in wrestling, he hadn't even won a match. And so I worked with him one session, and I got a message from just a little while ago saying, Hey, man, thank you very much for helping me I took second statefor wrestling so so those kind of things you can't you can't get by working the nine to five Walmart job, right? With my groceries or whatever, right? And maybe, if that's your if that's how you receive fulfillment, sure, I'll challenge you on everything.I think there's right or wrong butYeah, I think that that's where are you getting your format and so from you for you, you get your fulfillment from being able tohear those success stories of like, how much somebody changed or how much that success happened or in the form of laughter, enjoyment, and almost a relaxation, and letting go of characters, the things that stress us out on our own basis. Sure. Yeah. That's awesome. For me, it's very similar. I come to work. And I love seeing somebody who's like, super depressed about their financial situation. Because I'm confident most of the time that by the time I'm done working with them, they're gonna be smiling and like, now I know where I'm going. Now. That's an exciting thing. I love it that that Penny drop is the same that I experienced when I was on a church mission. teaching about Jesus Christ isn't the same moment because the same is ultimately in my mind. It's the same transformation, whether we're talking about Christ, or whether we're talking about money, or whether we're talking about health or success, but it's the it's the recognition that that you are wortha better life. That's the recognition and once you recognize that you're worth better life because of you. That's the penny that stops whether that's your worth a better life. So you believe in Jesus Christ, you work better lives, you spend your money more intentionally, you're worth a better life. Because you're no longer comparing your your success to your brothers and wrestling. It's your worth something. And once they recognize that they have worth that once that Penny drops, that's a beautiful thing for me. In my experiences, it's a really good way to look at it like that.I think so, too.I'll pat myself on the back for that one. Yeah, um, sowhat were your biggest naysayers when you're going through this process of getting educated on on hypnosis and how that works and building a career out of it? What were your Who are your biggest naysayers and how did you overcome them? And I would say, Who are your naysayers today? Because I'm sure that happens. People every time you get on stage, I don't believe in hypnosis. There's always somebody in every crowd that way. So howDo you deal with Mesa Arizona? Gotcha. Okay, so back to when I first started hypnosis in Utah, right was your against the commandments? Yes.Right against the Book of Mormon right so so there's there was a lot of issues when I first got started in this and i would i would come up against a lot of walls but there was that burning. I gotta do this I know it's helpful people are just have a lack of education of what hypnosis is right? hypnotism sounds like mysticism which sounds like whatever else, right? So so people are assuming that it's this stuff that you can't do. But there's a whole scientific principle behind hypnosis. Once people learn that it's like, oh my gosh, this makes a lot of sense. And so we go in and out of it all the time, right seven times a day worried at most instruments, or longer or at least, and it's different for every hypnotist. But yeah, we spend a lot of our time in a state of hypnosis, right or a trance. So anyway, so once they're educated, it helps. The biggest problem is back in the day90s prior to the 90s, and then early 2000s is the stage hypnotists were very, very dark, and I'm in control of you, blah, blah, blah, right? So I wanted to give it a different feel. And so once I started empowering people from the stage that opened up a whole new realm, a lot of artists are doing that now. Because now it's like, oh, this is a power thing. And no, it's not crazy weird. So that's helped open the doors for me to be able to do a lot of schools and fairs and corporate events, because I get a good feeling. Right? So that's kind of shifted the mentality. I'm not saying I did it by myself, because the whole the whole community kind of kind of shifted at that at that time. So that's the first that's the first part. My biggest naysayer was my mom. She I was working in the corporate world, I manage restaurants and before I became a hypnotist, I was a flight attendant. So I did that for for six years. I did not know that about him. So when I knew things, so I was flying a lot and I started doing shows and so I would have to call in sick so I could go do it.Show. And so I kept doing that. Well, the CEO of the company, I actually hypnotized their sister, and help help them lose weight and it worked. And so I called the CEO of the airlines. And I said, Hey, I are the airline that your work. Yes, I intentionally skipping out. Yes, yes, yes. So I called her and I said, Hey, just so you know, I'm at this point in my life, and I really want to do this. I just don't know if I can do it full time. I don't want to do I'm out of sick time. I have no more love. And she was so cool. She says, Why don't you take the month of August off and see how it goes and will keep your keep your stats, secure insurance, all that kind of stuff. And then if it works, great, then you can quit. And if not, then you come back and super cool. So I did. And it was like the next couple of days. I got phone calls. I ended up booking seven fares that year. And so I called her back and I said, Yeah, I gotta quit. So I wouldn't finish the month of September. Often I was in 2006. And then I quit airlines and so on.So it's kind of funny, because think about it now because now you're like 15 fairs a year in August, but it was seven was like the big thing. So I was super excited than ever before. That's so cool, I think. So I want to go back to something you said, because I think this matters in literally every aspect of our life. And that is that the objective matters. And if you recall, we said it was looked down upon primarily because people were doing they're toying with it, unfortunately, often.stuff is is ridiculed and thought against before it becomes widely accepted. Andno, often, often, often, often, the initial adopters of a new thing, are people who are out there and maybe don't always have the best intentions, it is what it is sure. Once it becomes more widely accepted, then we start seeing people come in to a field with better intentions and say, Okay, how can we use this better and, and that's just what you described.people out there who are using different forms of language and programming with hypnosis, hypnosis, I'm happy to explain what hypnosis is from the, the, the medical perspective here in second, like the actual what's going on scientifically. But once you understand and it was more widely understood what is actually happening, then we can have more application of the principle because now we're understanding the principle we're not just a few people doing random things, but we we understand that principle we can control, there's more control, because now we can see actually results from principle. And then we can start using it for good. And you have the opportunity to do that with literally anything in your life. If you're a mom, if you're folding clothes, if you have children, you've got to be able to reframe things. It's got it's the same thing, the same things happening the same process, same scientific thing is happening. You it would be in your best interest to learn how to reframe things in a positive, helpful loving light serving lightbecause that's thehelps you accomplish more in life and gain greater persuasion and influence around those around you. So I love that the idea of just changing something, Nick, that was previously negative, and making it positive gossip, I have a friend, go check out his web site at his website, but definitely Facebook. But his his brand is called gossip for good, likegossip is just sharing information. It's just going on and talking about things that you've heard about that may or may not actually be true. But you can gossip about other people and negative things and judgment and kind of condemnation. You can gossip about all that or you can go gossip about all the good things that are happening in life. It's up to you what you choose to gossip about gossip is not inherently bad. It's what you choose gossip about. Yep, exactly. And so now, it doesn't last very long. So when we got to 30 minutes, but um, soAnyways, go ahead and explain more of like the scientific because I think there's going to be people on here like, Oh yeah, the church still says it's bad to be hypnotized. And it's just a lack of clarity of what hypnotism is. And unfortunately, it'sit's highly emotionally attached words to stuff that actually isn't there. So then they hear the word hypnosis, hypnosis or hypnotist, and they react to the word because of all the meaning that they've attached to it over their lifetime rather than what is reality. So they're living off in their own fictitious Fantasyland which, if you're happy, there areno business falling out, but you're going to listen to this, don't judgethis until you actually know what it is I would be my my invitation to you. So go ahead and explain what that is and what's actually happening for scientific, more scientific level. So the basis of hypnosis, the long definition is hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. While you bypass the critical factor of thinking so that you become hyper suggestible. What does that mean? So we'll break down the three parts being in an altered state of consciousness, altered state of consciousness. Basically they hook the little electrodes up to your brain but the EEG machine, they can measure your brainwave cycles, just like a heartbeat. They mentioned the brainwave cycle. So the first brainwave cycle in consciousness is called a beta brainwave state. And just to be clear, just, this is all electrical impulses, correct? Yes. Okay, just so just so you guys know, this is electricity. He didn't come up with this hypnosis didn't come up with this. We found a way to label it and we terminate. We use the term hypnosis to define this process. dewpoint Okay. Okay, so now, in that beta brainwave state, we're paying attention, somebody megahertz, I don't know the exact megahertz or how many cycles it's going per minute or whatever that is, I don't know that. But basically, it's moving pretty fast. So then you start paying attention to something and then you enter into what's called an altered state of consciousness. So the first level would be called health.A brainwave state or what is called Daydream, right? In normal terms, when you're driving down the street, or you're doing the dishes, and all sudden you kind of go away. The subconscious mind takes over it does an activity that constantly starts to think about something else, you enter the Daydream state. That's the first level of hypnosis or an altered state of consciousness. When you talk to yourself, you're also in that same brainwave state. Then you enter into another dependency a little bit deeper called a theta brainwave state theta is more like when you're driving down the street, you go past your ex, and you don't know where you've been for 10 minutes, or you're reading a book and you get to the bottom of page completely forget what you just read. That's another state. Right? Then you have delta which is a little bit deeper. And this is more likeit's more like when you get phone call him tonight, you talk to somebody hang up the phone and you need to remember who you talk to. or teenagers nowadays that wake up one morning that texted somebody the night before with texting. So this amnesia starts to happen in that in that brainwave state. These are all normal natural states. This isn't just hypnosis, this is normal activity. Sure, then you have the deeper level.Which is called somnambulists, some symbolism is when you can kind of fool with the senses. That's when we can lessen pain. Or if you watch a state show, you can have somebody eating I know that he gets an apple, they have zero physiological signs, what's going on. So that's that's kind of a deeper level. Now there's all sorts of levels in between those states. Those are just the basics of how the brain was working. Now in hypnosis, there's four basically four ways how to get somebody into that trance. Okay? So that's the altered state of consciousness. Now what happens you start to bypass the critical factor thinking critical factor thing is your program. basically telling you who you are, who you are, or who you are, who you aren't what you can what you can do. Soif I'm working with a weight loss client, everybody knows that it takes two things to lose weight, which is diet and exercise, right? If I change my diet, eat less exercise more like burn more calories, and I consume I should lose weight. That's the theory right now. I'm gonna say there's everybody thinks they know that or they know that and it's not true. And and then we get wound up in it. Yeah, but yeah, But sir, I really likeChocolate cake or Yeah, but I like cookies were Yeah, but it's the holidays are Yep. But mom, here's where the programming comes in. Yeah. But mom always said I gotta finish my claim because they're starving kids wherethey're starving kids in Africa or Ethiopia. Right?Right. So So then we have that programming based on that. And then that's where hypnosis comes in. We put them in an altered state of consciousness to reprogram that.Well, people think that in that state, you can become have mind control, right? It is not mind control, because you still have that moral and ethical code that no matter how deep and endless you go, I can't break that. You can be conditioned, granted rights. For those of you who are really studying this stuff, you can be conditioned for mind control, but just hypnosis of itself cannot create mind control for you to do something you would want to do spike Have you into deep levels of hypnosis and I said I want you to go rob a bank he didn't want to.Now I think I think that again, this is just from my experience, so you have different experience. Fantastic for you. Mostpeople that I know who don't like it gnosis from a,from a religious context. They don't like it because from their perspective, you're surrendering control of your bodyand you should be in control and they have this deep religious belief thatthe whole purpose of this planet is to gain control of our body, and I would actually 100% agree with them from the whole purpose of this plan is to be in control of your body. Learning to control your body is another conversation though. How many things did somebody else have to show you before you learned how to do it? Did somebody help you tie your shoes? Did somebody help you put your clothes on somebody help you learn how to put your underwear on, or put your glasses on or brush your teeth all those things somebody did for you to you. Before you ever did them for yourself and you changing your diaper pro baby learning how to eat all these things. Somebody else did those for you before you can do it for yourself. SoYou are going to abide by double leaf that allowing anyone else to control your body is a grave sin and a rejection of your your holy people that you follow for me, for me, it's Jesus Christ. And it's all right for me, I don't say that blasphemous Lee, I'm trying to give you permission to believe whatever you want, right? I have deep beliefs as well. But if you're gonna abide by that, then we have to be able to apply principles across the board. So stop taking care of your children, stop helping them do anything, stop driving them around, stop doing anything for them, that's not in them choosing to do it and see how well you like life. I think you're going to quickly agree that sometimes it's better to have somebody show how to do something first or to be taught how to do something. Definitely don't send your kids to school. You wouldn't want that. Okay, so like, the reality isa good hypnosis, good hypnotist that I that I've seen. They are helping you there.are facilitating somethingby your choosing. They're facilitating it. Right? They aren't walking around hypnotizing people without. It's not like Disney where he's like, watch this clock.Okay, that's what's going on guys. So, one you are choosing into an experience to learn something to better yourself, number one, number two, once you understand how a lot of this stuff is,well, can you once you understood it, and you've practiced it, how difficult is it for you to use principles? Maybe not full on hypnotize yourself, but use principles of hypnosis, in your everyday life? All the time.myself as well. So the point the point of that question is,this isn't about somebody else, always doing this. Good hypnotism is about teaching and educating you how to do this yourself for yourself. It's about gaining more control of your body until you understand this. You'reare actually in the control of everybody else who understands this and is doing this with your media, your music, your TV, your books, it talks about mass hypnosis across the planet. It's happening. And if you aren't aware of it,it's only hurting you and your family. Right? So in with what you do you do a lot of finance stuff, right? So people who are let's say they're stuck at a $45,000 a year $30,000 fixed as much doesn't matter. Remember, right. So now they are programmed to think that's how much they make, right? So let's use $40,000 a year in example, somebody a $40,000 a year employee salesman, let's use a salesman for example.Their picture their internal dialogue, their thought process is that $40,000 a year right so that first three quarters they could kick tail and really make that that money, but their program is on $40,000. So now the last quarter, they start to tail off and that's what they make the next for that year is 40,000. Or the opposite is true. They may struggle for the first two or three quarters or whatever of the year. And then all of a sudden they'll ask you to kick it in gear again. And guess what? They're back at 40,000 it's the pictures they create in their money to self hypnosis, it's the exact same thing we're doing. So when we get stuck in that back to your control statement is they feel out of control. I don't know how to control this. I don't know how to change this smokers weight loss. I don't know how to fix this, or I need somebody else to help me get over that because the blind spot is right and proper ourselves. So you're exactly right. It is self hypnosis and we do it all the time. So let's uh, I love joining two forms, I thought and forcing them like just smashing them together. And religion as an easy one to because it's so especially in our society. It's so ingrained and everywhere I go, I'm not religious. I'm atheist, dude, that's a religion. In case you didn't know you have faith that nobody's there watching and nobody cares. Like, just because you've chosen to have faith in the non existence of being itself faith. So Ihate to burst your bubble, but youYou're just as religious as the rest of us just with a different religion, okay? football can be a religion, eating could be religion, religion is almost synonymous with ritualistic behavior. And there you go with a little theology. That's religion, but that's over simplistic as well. But with this, what is the contrast for this or this synonymous ism of prayer, daily prayer or repentance and meditation slash hypnosis?Hmm, good question. Um,the second part of the meditation hypnosis, a lot of people don't think they're the same. And they are the brainwaves are the exact same. The difference is in meditation, you're trying to clear your mind with hypnosis, you're going to same brainwave states, you're just giving yourself something to think about and focus on. That's the only difference right? You're giving yourself suggestions and safe access for us in hypnosis, religion and prayer. I've not done the studies. My guess is the brainwaves going to the same alpha or beta or theta brainwaveState right? You're you're creating visualization when you're asking Heavenly Father to to do something for us or to pray toGod just right so so let's say people ask people go to Heavenly Father and they and they ask for things. So it's like asking like this big Santa Claus in the sky asking for stuff. That's what a lot of people think of God as good as he can be in every day. I'm very, very, very spiritual. I connect with God on a daily basis and chat with him all the time. So you can be doing that when you're doing the dishes to plug yourself in and talk to talk to God. I'm so what's the difference between the two between prayer and meditation hypnosis? I don't know that there really is because you're still creating visualizations come from the subconscious mind. And just just, again, keep in mind that you have a conversation with me and we're actually talking about me trying to help you believe in God. This this comes out very differently. I'm just to help I have a healthy amount of skepticism, and I'm okay. Changing there.Yes, okay, so keep in mind that that's the position I'm coming from, don't be offended, like, oh God, Sam does believe in God. Now he does. But from my perspective, prayer could also be identical to what he said, from the perspective of when he was describing hypnosis and surpassing your critical thinking. The moment that you give up control, give up your critical thinking aspect and say, Look, I obviously can't figure this out my critical thinking no longer can accomplish whatever it needs to accomplish. I'm going to sidestep my critical thinking, put all of my faith in God. Okay, now we're going to this more perfect version of ourselves, which is ultimately our subconscious, our, or I would say, our value system, right? The part that doesn't really get hypnotized our morals values, we're going to our idealistic morals and values and asking our version of what our idealistic morals and values are to suggest what behavior we should continue to perform. And it's the same processwe're eliminating critical thinking by using a placeholder of God or Jesus Christ or Allah or whatever you call him, Jehovah, whatever you call them. Buddha, you can call whatever you want, okay? But it's it's a, it's a sidestep of critical thinking going into something that for all intents and purposes, nobody's been able to empirically prove that this person exists. So we're sidestepping that with the intention of connecting deeper with our subconscious and our AI, our morals and our values so we can become better and change our habits change our circumstances change our reality. That's my death. Like, if I was to define prayer, that's what I think is happening from a more scientific explanation.I think it's the same. You're self hypnotizing yourself, every time you're praying. Ideally, that's deep dude. And if you're not praying, and here's theHere's the worst part about it. If you decide well I don't need prayer and you get rid of prayer then what are you doing to better yourself? How At what point in your day are you self hypnotizing yourself to be better if you're if you decide you don't believe in God?What What else are you using to sidestep the critical thinking portion of your, your being? That's thosethat maybe I just want to do that as a way my mind thinks. And I think it's important because knowing that gives you so much more power to create, it gives you so much more power to determine what it is that you actually want out of life. And, and again, move past a lot of this crap that we hold ourselves accountable for, which is why we have anxiety, depression, all these things we're holding on to stuff that's really not ours to hold on to.And, yeah, what you, you say if you get rid of prayer to better youTwo litres of water for who? For what reason? There's no point right? What is better because there's no good or bad if you're not believing in,in higher power. So from what society says it's good and bad now. Yeah, I said, See, I don't know, I still think I still think there's a best of me and me as based on how good How good how successful on my at Korea, okay, so this goes back to a deeper religious belief that I hold that the purpose of this planet is to become like an infinite creator. Now you can call him God, you can call him whatever. But our purpose on this planet, as far as I'm concerned, is to learn how to create the way we saw other people creating. And if that's my goal, then although there's no good or bad again, it's just like hypnosis. You could use the principle for a good outcome or a bad outcome. The goal is how good are you at creating intentionallybecause that isIf any promise is real, that we are going to become like God, and thenwe got to learn how to become like God at some point. And that's what this whole thing is for. That's my this No, this is not my religious beliefs, right? So, but anyways, I think that that's what we're doing here. So learning how to create is the good or bad it's how effective are you it's not necessarily is what you're creating good or bad it's how effective are you at creating it. And the Enlightenment comes with recognize being being willing to accept that everything that is happening right now you are creating and then changing inputs to create better sure create more things that are going to serve you or give you the outcomes that you want. You may create that something gives you the outcome you thought you wanted and find out man I really didn't want that outcome that happens. Well, it's sometimes you know, we're bettering as a hypnotist, it helps us to become a better version of themselves. Sometimes the spouse isn't on board with that. I've helped themFemales become very self confident. The spouse doesn't like that all the time. And one lady got a divorce if that wasn't the reason she came, but she's happy with herself. It caused a bad thing in both of their eyes, but not really because she's, she's happy, she's better thankful. And I agree I'm not I'm not one to like.

You're going to find this book on kindle amazon and as always on my website, Sam knickerbocker.com.Welcome back to the fuel your legacy podcast and bringing the best in the industry's and I have got on this kick lately, of bringing people to you who are from either Australia, South Africa, or the UK. So it's up to you to kind of determine who and where they're from. Unless they tell you it's kind of a game, or you look at their hands and look at their bio, right? Because if you don't know the intricacies of their accents, then you'll just never know. But yeah, so today we're going to have Nate theremins on and he is a leadership coach, trainer consultant soon to be an author. And just absolutely incredible an individual dedicated to others, really connecting to their purpose. And that's why one of the reasons why I wanted to have them on here is to focus on how are you as an individual connecting to your purpose, your legacy, and then what are you doing to design your life around your legacy rather than making your life fit around your day job or your work? So and that's what we're going to talk about here and I'm just super excited to be able to have this conversation And if you don't mind, go ahead and give us a little bit of backstory as far as where you came from how you grew up, and why you're so passionate about what you're right now,Samuel, thank you, John, I was so excited having the conversation with you, because I feel your legacy just resonated so strongly with me. And I'm happy to be here to share some of this content. The story for me is, I would say, pretty much an average life. You know, the big getting part was my parents. My parents lived in austere times. I grew up through the 80s went to school in the 90s. My parents are both kinds of working middle-class people. My father was a police officer. And I was a very active child and my dad showed us how to do lots of different things kind of, you know, building things, how to put shelves up how to paint and all these sorts of things. And he taught us you know, how to get hands-on with life. But what I found was, as I started to grow up. I went to secondary school high school for you guys. And that's where things started to fall for me because that active child that learned through seeing and doing fell short and it broke me the system broke me through a system of repeat or, you know, sit and repeat to get your qualifications. And that's where everything started to shift for me. So, I felt as I was in high school, secondary school, that I had a purpose, but I didn't know what it was. I didn't know how to express it clearly. So all those that pent up frustration of being a young teenager being in an environment that didn't fit me or being asked to live up to someone else's expectation, all those frustrations erupted into no toxic behaviors. When I was around 1314 I started to be bullied by a group of boys older boys from another school. Not knowing what to do that with those emotions what to do with that pain. I then learned that you have to hurt other people to compensate. Later on, more recently I heard a quote from I think is Dr. Sandra Wilson. hurt people hurt people. And that's what I was doing. But I never dealt with the problem. As I then progressed out of school went into work. My father was always asking me what you're going to do what you're going to be. He wasn't a coach. He wasn't he was a police officer. That and that was the extent of his questioning what you're going to do what you're going to be trying to push me to think further, but not giving me any more depth of thought around that. And then that frustration, you know, I don't know what I want to be. He was asking this question for about 14 1516 I didn't know what I wanted to be. I didn't know what I wanted to do. I just knew I had a purpose. I just didn't know how to tap into it, what it would what I would amount so I went through the motions and I Listen to some of your previous guests about leadership and the leaders in their environment. And that's what I started doing. I started getting into management roles at 19 years old, I'd look for pay rises, I've moved to another company, I try and develop myself. I'm always looking for that certainty and security that my parents both wanted so desperately for me to have my brother to have, that they didn't have. And when they were growing up, when I bought their first house, at one point, their mortgages jumped in at 20% an incredible, incredibly hard times. And they wanted us to have the best because no parent in their right mind wants to feel good to be equal to or less than them. And I went to see you succeed, and I wanted to see us have that security, work hard, retire and be comfortable. But that never felt right to me. And there was always this internal friction. But I didn't have director so the bullying I never dealt with going into work. And two jobs that just didn't feel quite right. I didn't kind of A-line to my ethics. These emotions were bottled up and trapped inside. And then eventually what happened was the age of 24. I can only describe and tell you it had you seen me you would have done to one or two things, you would have either pulled him away in absolute disgust of what you were seeing because of the mess or was or you would have called me an ambulance because you knew that I'd overdosed on recreational drugs. All these pent up frustrations over the years from going to school, being made to fit in or you know, is feeling like I was forced to fit in doing jobs that never felt quite right and never knowing who I was never feeling comfortable in my skin because there was more for me to give. came to that cataclysmic moment of me lying on a sofa in that state, standing on the edge of a metaphorical precipice, precipice looking over the edge and having to make a decision what I was gonna do with my life. And again, that sense of purpose came up. I can either continue down this road, I'll either be dead or in prison. Or I can step back and I can go and do something about this. And that was the choice of my life gives you repeated lessons, and some other parts their story and I step back from this a few weeks later, deciding to stop doing those sorts of things then. Six weeks later, I bumped into the lady that is now my wife. I made some serious decisions and moved to Amsterdam, where she was she's English, but she had moved there already or was planning to move there. So I wind up living with her for four years in Amsterdam. And I took all those leadership skills that I developed and taken on board and actually and it sounds pretty salubrious it was a great job at the time ended up managing the customer services for time and Fortune magazine and National Geographic for the European country. the base here in here in Europe and Asia before I think the international database, not the American clients so did that for a few months while it's here cutting my teeth as a leader in a larger businessthen returned homewasn't completely sure that what I was doing again with my Anna and myself returned not yet married, making a decision we wanted to start a family we wanted to be near our family so that we could have the build the relationships between grandparents and grandchildren today. They're going to get lost incorporate. I got lost in kind of the expectations. And I went it was getting doing jobs for that security for Okay, the structure that again, it didn't feel right. I was working in the finance sector, frontline banks, became a bank manager and then moving into car insurance. And there are very few financial businesses out there without actually about the people. It remains to be about the numbers. Again, these ethics and these principles just didn't fit me. And his frustration started to bring to the surface and I was getting into arguments with my leaders because I didn't agree with what they were saying with me saying to me, I then encountered bullying, workplace bullying, because of the bullying that I never dealt with as a child at school. Just came back to rear its head again, in a work environment. And I was looking around the officelamenting call him vocally at times about the situation about the lack of leadership about the lack of skills about the lack of support that people were supposed to be getting. Now they were saying great things, but the action you know, the audio and the video didn't, didn't sync up. And eventually got to a point where I can either sit here pointing my finger at everybody else or I can start pointing my finger where I want to go and where I want to take people phrase I heard a couple of years ago. Complaining is the glue that keeps you stuck to your circumstances. retire you're doing it all the time that you're complaining you cannot activate solution or thinking you cannot come up with new ideas while you're busy pointing your finger at other people and saying that they're the problem. Rather than saying, you know what, I've got something I can do this. The next lesson that came up was is the thing that you lack is the thing that you're meant to give. And at that point, there was a level of friction a level of tension came up. The level of intention came up in my daughter was about to arrive around 3536 years old, I stumbled across Sana cynic and the Golden Circle, how great leaders inspire action. all at the same time dojo about to arrive within 24 hours Simon sitting on what is my purpose? Here is a model framework like a building soon from the It's been focused drive to understand my purpose, which I now have absolute clarity on, help other people understand and articulate their purpose as well. Inside that, I've gone and got my qualifications in leadership coaching, started to deliver leadership content to individuals and help them upgrade their skills. And then get deep on what I bring and how I bring it. So the party and your title around fuel your legacy, and came up with these three pillars of the purpose, the goals, and the legacy. So the purpose is you at your genetic best is what you're born with. There is something about you that you are born with. It is hardwired into your genetics at the moment of conception, and you bring that in every single activity, whether you realize it or not. So your purpose is never unknown. is either unclear.I'm focused or unstructured. When we Get into that when you go back and do the analytics and say, Okay, well, what did I do in this situation or this situation, you will always find a core behavior and action that you always take. And what's the phrase, you know, you never rise to the expectation, you always fall back to the level of training.Regardless of what happens, whether it's good or bad, you'll fall back to that, that core principle of who you are, and you will bring that every single time. So when you go back and do the analytics, and you get really clear on it, and you get really focused with it, and you get really structured with it, you can then implement that in every single conversation going forward, every single relationship, every single project, who am I, when I'm at my best and my genetic best, who am I bring into this conversation? Okay, what am I going to put into this conversation? To start to create, you know, you start to create the future. So that's the purpose I and then what we do is we start to build go that are designed from purpose because your goals are a physical manifestation of you at your fundamental best. Big, incredible, staggering, or, you know, or inspiring goals. The biggest possible manifestation of you your best, having a huge impact on civilization as a whole. And then the legacy part is the daily activity, the ripple effect, the seven generations before you that you're going to impact through the work that you're doing, and living at your fullest potential and extracting the gold and the wisdom and the pose of lessons and value in the people that you meet on a daily basis on the failures that you have and how you rejoice in them. And how you bring that back full circle, that living in that purpose, creating the goals, and then working on that daily to feel your legacy. And that's concepts have come up withWhy did thisfor me, the part that really kind of started to lock this into basically is understanding these four stages of work. The four stages of work when you bring this to life is the work that you're taught to do the work that you're told to do, meaningful work and purposeful work. So when I reflected on my life, I saw these four stages. Why stage one is the word that you're taught to do. This is what school is doing for us. It's teaching us to go to work is an outdated factory model to create factory workers post-Industrial Revolution. Except for the concept though the workspace we live in now is more intellectual, more creative. Not so much work-oriented, as AI comes in. These roles and responsibilities are going to know massively doing this. The parents on it won't be the US doing it. So what you're teaching us to do is turn up on time Do is retold and live up to someone else's expectation. Then when someone starts asking your question like my wonderful father did, we're going to do what you're gonna be that frustration starts to kick in. Okay, maybe there's more than this, maybe there's something outside of this box. That concept of I has a purpose. There's something bigger than me there's something bigger I need to be given was already there. He was feeling it with these core questions. So around about 15. For me, my mindset shifted to the work that you're told to do. My question in any of my leadership development code, or events, what I'm talking about feedback or coaching, who likes being told what to do?No one. When we have the word that we're told to do, what happens is we have you know, symptoms that come up frustrations, agitation, conversations, boy, like, why because people can't see what you can see. You can't see what they can see. And the connections just start to break down. Why because you're always right. straightened and always angry. Then when you learn the fresh questions as in leadership development coaching skill, someone gets a mentor comes to you and starts asking you questions, you can then shift from the work that you're told to do to meaningful work. And for me, there was a difference between meaningful and purposeful. meaningful is full of meaning to you as an individual. You can spend time doing it all day you will find excuses to do it. But there's a level of selfishness that sits inside it is not about someone else. Yes, you're good at what you do. Yes, you enjoy it. And yes, you can lose yourself in it for hours on end, and it makes you happy and you can go home happy that is still only about you. We then have to take it up a level and this is where it comes back to that purpose base. purposeful work is where we need to be aiming ourselves. the purpose of work is full of meaning to me, that is full of purpose to the other person. I'm doing it as a servant. Leader. Now I want to talk to people about leadership and they go there a team leader or operational leader, whatever, what comes first, the team, the operation, you know, your team does not work for you, you work for your team, you are an enabler for them to be the best possible versions of themselves to clear any obstacle so they can go and deliver exceptional work and deliver exceptional results for themselves. So that in return, you get something out of the back of it as a side effect, you are successful because they are successful, not the other way around. And if you don't get this concept, right, as a leader, you want to have a team very long. And if you haven't got a team, you've got no one to lead. This is where it comes in with a legacy that has what am I given to these people, my work family who I work for these people so that they can go and do their version of incredible so when we move into purpose will work it's about the other person is about contribution, it's about givingIt's about elevating others. For me, this is the stuff that I now share from these experiences of being bullied of reckless, toxic behaviors. I didn't know what to do with because of my frustrations and lead those attempting to keep on things, the way that I thought about things before. Before I took that kind of twist on the viewpoint, and looked at it from a different angle and got that new concept of this is what I can be doing. This is what I can be giving. This is how I can help other people. And now from there, I've gone from the corporate environment, I've moved out of a full-time job. And I've now moved into a part-time job, which pays me more than my full-time job. doing what I love doing which is delivering leadership content to people going into other organizations and teaching their leaders how to be more credible yesterday so they can get better results for their people. So when you talk about helping other individuals move out of their roles that are out of their expectations and obligations, that contractual confinement that we often feel in the corporate life, there is a way through it. And part of that is about tapping into your purpose, understanding who you are the fundamental best. Working out the things that you enjoy doing the things that excite you. And then ratchet ratcheting them up to talk about gap analysis, you know, the mark itself between one and 10 one being rubbish 10 being great on the certain things will find the things that you're a 10 out of 10 out on your skillset. And then write them on a level of excitement of Are you a 10 out of 10 on excitement and if you can make those things that are 10 out of 10 make them a 12 out of 10 make yourself a specialist make yourself an expert make yourself sought after because you are so awesome that you cannot be ignored. And people will pay you incredibly large amounts of money for fewer hours so that you can spend more time building high-quality relationships with the individuals that are important to you. So there are ways through when you tap into that purposeful work and start giving it to people you will become more valuable and you will raise your status in the arena. And more people will also be will look to lift you so that you can go and do great to work in that space.Yeah, I love that. So, I mean, there's so much there I'm not going to be able to go back and cover all of it but I do want to tear into some of these things. And when I say tear, it's an exciting thing, not a bad thing butgood there'sthere's so many different angles that we could take this show with your history and where you've been because what's funny is you can research people you can look at them on their social media, their stuff like that, and there are certain stories you just don't ever hear until you talk one on one. And, and so I'm grateful for that. I'm grateful for being able to share some of these things and pull them out. We actually are maybe surprisingly similar in the area of and I would, I would not just say, you and I, but a lot of the people that I have interviewed, and we have a level of where we felt like or we experienced a situation in our younger years of bullying, of where we were kind of bullied or cornered or forced into a certain perspective that we didn't agree with, or feel in alignment to, and that happens for various reasons. It's always an interesting thing. There's a story of Thomas Edison.Hegot sent home from school with a note for his mom. And in the note, it said Your son is too dumb to be in our class and to be taken to a specialty school or something or to taught at home. And when his mom read that, rather than telling him that that's what the note said, she said, I look, you are just too smart for the teachers and everybody at school. So we're going to teach you at home. Right and so it's all about framing and perspective. And when it comes to that, but it does happen often where we feel forced into something where we don't feel we don't feel fulfilled. And then, as a result, we have this almost dimming of our purpose or our true light. And for Nathan, he mentioned that it went into drugs went into different areas to kind of numb the pain, or lack of fulfillment. And that's so it's just such a fascinating thing that I think of everybody listening to this took a hard look at themselves and said, what, what am I using to numb the pain of lack of fulfillment? That could be Netflix, it could be food, it could be trapped I mean it could be so many different things it could be a relationship to numb the pain of not fulfilling your dreams or not fulfilling your full extent of your being through creation. And there's there are so many different areas that you might be using right now to numb the pain of your life or numb the pain of your lack of fulfillment. And it's so crucial to really identify what that is and not only identify with how you're numbing it, but then go and identify what aligns with me. Do you remember at the beginning of his when he was saying everything was core values, right like it didn't align with who I was didn't feel right? My stomach is always in knots. I wasn't quite right doesn't mean it wasn't being successful. You can have lots of money you can be very financially successful and not fulfilled. Hmm. How many of the people that you're coaching right now, Nathan do you think are in that position where it's not that they're not successful by working standards, but they just flat out aren't fulfilled in what they're doing.I think there's a lot of things that come out of the schooling situation and it's not school bashing, it's reporting is a situation. It breeds a level of uniformity and conformity. When we go into the corporate space, you're looking around and probably 98% of the people are doing the same thing. And I'd say probably 100% of the people of that 98 % sitting there in their heads at some point thinking, is it just me am I just the problem is this there must be more than this. There must be more to this to this life. It can't just be this but some of them to different varying levels and different levels are holding that down or not responding or not answering that call. Because as I said, you know your purpose is always in this you know whether it's a whisper, it's a screaming Banshee, demanding You to take action on it demanding that you do that. So when people come to me for coaching is because they are frustrated because they have hit that kind of glass ceiling in their head. Because someone that they feel frustrated that other people aren't seeing that in them. I haven't got a leader above them that can support them in a way to help them develop up. So when they come to speak to me is because they want clear-talking, they want clear words that are going to help them get to get to where they need to be in their headspace so they can then take the action and go to the job interview or rewrite the resume or redesign the goal according to them. Rather than living up to someone else's expectation rather than staying quiet, because maybe they think the other kids in the classroom might make fun of them for having big goals. Maybe and it can be no we Many people are wandering around and it's still actually just a trap child. They are still the child they were when they were 1314 years old being picked on in the playground somewhere, or behaving in that way. But actually, they're in the body of a 45-year-old.Yeah, absolutely. I think that's what's interesting about what you had mentioned about the bullying if you don't take care of those, those issues that you experienced when you're younger, especially the highly emotional experiences, they have a way of resurfacing in the future. And some people think, man, this is so terrible. Why is this happening again? For me, I tend to look at life as an opportunity to learn and grow. And I'm grateful that if I didn't learn a lesson, the first time that it's going to resurface in my life and another area so that I can learn that lesson. Right? It would be a shame if the every time you fail something that you only get to try that once you only get to try one area of personal development once at once and if you fail to develop yourself that one time, then you don't ever get the opportunity to change that in your life again, that would be really unfortunate. So I'm so grateful in my life, that these issues, these things that do offend us they do resurface in our lives so that we can have an opportunity to understand how to move past them.So the way that I look at it is I look at life as a computer game. Now if you bought a computer game and the first level was so ridiculously hard that you could not get past that. And then the gun got easier as the game progressed, how many copies of that game would get sold? Not many. So your life challenges the things that you know your traumatic experiences those certain events occur with those that gratitude that helps you to learn from it is not about making life easier, is about making sure you do learn the lesson so that you can move forward with it faster because like the computer game When you're looking at certain, certain strategic strategy games or whatever, when you're playing them, when that character dies, it goes back. It responds to the game. And in different ways you have, you still have the same challenge, but you have it from a different angle. And this is this analogy is in the sense of, okay, well, actually, I didn't learn this lesson in this relationship with his partner. But I'm going to go and have the same relationship with a different partner. And that's just life-giving you back this situation, you haven't learned the lesson that you haven't learned yet. So you actually can learn from it, and then move it forward. Then that came back into the thinking that if people are just sitting at work, just going through the motions, what do they complain about on a daily basis, when you're looking in those corporate spaces, they go and complain about the same thing over and over and over and over again, they never go and look for the solution. Then talk about the numbing element that you talked about because energy doesn't disappear. It just gets redirected. How do we redirect it? smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol working for the weekend. Now socially and there are socially acceptable and unacceptable ways of doing this drinking too much coffee socially acceptable. Now in the modern age sitting on the toilet, checking social media is socially acceptable. Why? Because you're being social. So when you these are the clear indicators that there is a problem now had two incidents that happened in the last kind of six months. I went to push the cubicle door in a men's toilets open. The guy hadn't locked the toilet door. Thankfully, for me, he was sitting on top of the toilet lid still with his trousers up checking social media. He forgot to lock the door. So he wasn't even using the toilet. He was hiding in the toilet checking in social media. That tells me there's a problem. Yeah, that's a flag. got to a point though, where I'll be sitting in my cubicle using a toilet and the person next to me doesn't even turn the volume down on their phones. When the video comes up on Facebook now, they're not even hiding it. So there are all these little flags going up, but it's socially acceptable to do this. Why? Because everybody else is doing it yet that lower conformity kicks in. But actually, no one's picking up. Okay? What's the reason this person wants to go and hide from his work and sit on the toilet and check his Instagram? One because he hasn't got a purpose because he's not engaged with what he's doing because not aligned to his value in what he's designed to bring from the inside out. Yeah,I completely agree with that. In fact, one of the speeches that I would give to a corporate and a more corporate setting to managers or business owners, maybe at a rope, rotary club or something, is about redefining the SMART goals and, and turning them into something exciting and so I actually, when I give that speech, I started by talking about having alike a sexual affair. If you're married and you're having sexual affair, right, how terrible is that? How? Why is this happening? What are the symptoms of this? And then I relate that to any company, individual manager, business owner, who has not made their vision purpose. I mean, I love what you said their purpose, their goals, and their legacy. If they haven't put that in a way that's so sexy that it's holding somebody else's attention, then their employees are cheating on them. If they haven't made their that goal so massive that it demands attention. It demands focus, it demands these things, then they're not getting there. And then is it remarkable like well, first is audacious that isn't creating separation. Are you with what you're doing? I Tesla, I don't know if you saw over the last few months, but Tesla's new truck that's coming out.I'm assuming youlove Google it right if you haven't seen it, but it's a funny looking truck, right, but it's going to create a separate Same thing, right? Putting a Tesla car circle orbiting the planet for no other reason it's creating. It's an audacious move. That's creating separation from the people who like Tesla and the people who don't like Tesla. And he's doing something remarkable so that other people are going to talk about it. And then lastly, is transparency. Are you willing to tell everybody what your goals are to hold you accountable, tell the world about them shouting from the rooftops? And if you're not doing that, and then your people are cheating on you. And they could, I've never really thought of it this way. But now this, this is, I'm going to have to add this into my speech, but they aren't just cheating on you with their dreams. There's probably a small percentage of people cheating on you with their dreams. Probably most people are cheating on you with sedation, which with social media, drugs, alcohol, sex, whatever porn, whatever it is. They're sedating themselves rather than getting excited and doing and being part of a contribution or Being part of a movement. So that's fascinating to think about it that way. And I am grateful forthat. That comment, you sent me about Brian and a couple of different directions that he said SMART goals you said about this. So the important thing for me when you get to those goals is understanding that your goals have to be magnetic. They have to have a polar bear as a charge to them. So when you look at lightning coming down from the sky, they're not random strikes. That is the planet it sends up an electrical charge itself that pulls the lightning to that point. And your goals have to be the same they have to energize you they have to move but when you say them, now when I sit in my goal and I visualize that thing, there are times that I break down and cry because it just fills me with so much joy. And not many people have that experience. What they have is here's someone else's agenda. Here's someone else's go Can you help me climb the mountain. And then when you get to the top of that mountain, you're like, well, what was that all about? It's not my mountain. So, you want to as a leader and an as an employee, okay, the organization's gonna have it's got great, fantastic. Does my goal align with the goal of the business? by helping the business? Does it help me achieve my goal? Therefore, I'm not giving up on my goal, we're working in conjunction and parallel to each other. And at the right time when I need to leave because I achieve, I know it goes separate. It's an amicable agreement and we go into different directions rather than the mental health challenges that go with that all the toxic behaviors or the frustrations that then turn into kind of people getting fired. Gotta have that clarity as an individual. The words you use SMART goals. I learned this a few years ago, and I shared it with people now. And I teach people to have SMART objectives, not smart goals. And the difference is when you the moment you make you are smart in the way that I understand it is? Because it was it is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. That's your normal SMART goal. But the moment you're saying is real, it already exists. There is no tension there is no challenge to go and make that thing happen because it's already in your realm of possibility. Exactly. Because it's not about achieving the goal is about the person that you have to become to make the goal a reality. If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you. And I'm going to you know, there are several cliches in there that we see on multiple means, but it's so true. So the moment that you made you go smart, and what you do is you make them small, mediocre, average, repetitive and time-wasting.Hmm, that's a new one.So then when we take that back, and we go, Okay, how big Cisco and people are going to give you a hard time people they're going to point at you people are going to say, Who the hell do you think you are for doing what they're going to laugh at you. And as that other Main says, you know, you keep doing it, and then you get so good at it, that they want to come and work for you to make it happen. So my goal right now and I came up with this goal three years ago, when I started to get this real clarity is to positively and successfully influence the growth and development of over 100 million people through my one to one coaching, which includes training so that they are connected to a deeper sense of purpose of creating compelling goals, connecting to the people around them and creating a positive legacy time and time again. that excites up. I believe that this part is, you know, what they say to people is, don't tell everybody you'll go, well don't tell anybody who goes and I say to people, tell the right people who go because I've been people that I've told and I've looked them and I've literally said Who the f do you think you are? So if you think you can impact 100 million people. You know what I'm an average middle-aged man. As decided to go and do extraordinary things to help 100 million people so they can become more incredible than yesterday. And if a couple more people on this planet make decisions like that, and even if I fall short of 100 million people only get to 50 million. will the world be a better place? If I died tomorrow and only got to one person? would the world be a better place? Yes. Because I was striving for a goal. There's no part of that legacy. I'm chasing my potential, not just chasing my passion.Yeah, absolutely. Sowe're along the lines of that, how do you or tell me the story of the biggest naysayer in your life, and how you learn to silence them in your mind and just go for what you want it to do? Wow.And you know what it's been a lot of them and but that becomes comes from the education of when I was a child and not for my parents but for the school from the people that I spent. my so-called friends when I was going through these toxic behaviors in my late teens. I remember once, this is one of the best stories. He said. I said I'm gonna write a book on my life. I was 19. I was like, yeah, follow my provider. And he says to me, it's not interesting. Your life is pretty boring. No one's going to read it.So I never wrote the book.Won't not a lot of people know yet about me. And they will do in future books that I've written to the publisher is I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when I was nine years old. And I was hospitalized for nearly a year. I had multiple operations. We didn't have Google then. So you couldn't do your Google search to find out keywords for it. I had my mom we had a local health food shop with the information that my mom got from that health food shop and the treatments that we went through our keyword Chrome's now there are still 99% of the doctors on this world on this planet. Still saying that crimes are not cured. Now had written that story at the age of 2021 20 years ago, how many people would high have potentially held to overcome that debilitating disease that they believe they're stuck with? Because the doctor tells me all right. But it wasn't until Crikey three years ago that I made the decision. There's some stuff in there that I'm learning. There's some stuff that I'm learning about leadership, about approaches to life, about the ways that I set my goals about the stuff that I've taught other people to see them succeed. You know what I need to put this in a paper now I need to type this stuff down. I need to get lyrical. type this out, find a format to share it and just share this stuff with people. Because even it like I said, even if we got to one person and it fundamentally changes that person's life, that one person has my life is worth living, yes, but to not do it and to keep it inside me. You know, and now I'm seeing more of that transition in my thinking over the last 3458 years, I'm now bringing more of this content out and getting more out of my way, was that voice of the critic in my head isn't my voice. It's all the people that told me not to publish the book. But I'm saying the sort of people that told me Oh, you'll never amount to anything. It's all the people that thought, you know, the teachers that I perceive thought that I wouldn't Excel when I left school. But as we know, from the Roosevelt speech, I think it is now is the voice of the critic. But we also know that the voice of the critic is standing up or sitting out in the benches. He's not in the arena. I am in the arena, you people that are listening to this area in the arena, the people that are coming, you come they're telling you what they can't do based on their map of the world.Yeah, that's exactly. And I think that's probably for me, one of the biggest lessons that I've had to learn over my life is just keeping in perspective why somebody would Choose to squash somebody else's dream and the same. And on the same token, why would I, as an individual choose to squash somebody else's dream not just just flippantly or not thinking about it, why is that something that I feel I should be doing or even giving input on all I should do ever is potentially give some guidance of how they could better do it. But if I don't have a solution that could potentially help them succeed better, faster, quicker on a bigger scale than I should probably just keep my mouth shut. And I've had to learn that gradually over time, and it's been difficult because we all think we know what we're talking about. And even though it hasn't always happened to be that way. So I'm curious for you, what do you like is one of your if you were to focus on like one specific habit, mindset or behavior that you've used to create your meaningful legacy, what would that be and then how could we adopted into our liveswell, but I've got a few that dropped into my head. But the one I want to go back to is the goal-setting piece. And this a mentor of mine taught me this two years ago, three years ago. And even so, and this was in a free webinar, his name is Peter sage. And one of the things he taught me was if you know how to achieve your goal when you set it is too small. And in doing so, you're setting it from a place of fear, you're setting it from inside your comfort zone. So every time that you look at your goal, or you're reading your goal out, ask the question. If this conversation were to stop right now with me with you with whoever would I know how to achieve my goal? And if you come up with two or three actions, I forget an interview or do a bit of that you're not asked which if your goal is too small, double it, triple it, make it bigger, whatever it is you need to do to create that level of tension that's going to push you outside of the outside of your comfort, and we don't go to the gym of life to lift lighter weights, we go out there to pump heavier weights, you know, you start at five, you can go to 10. And then you go to your 20 plates to build the right muscles to do what you need to do. And it's the same with our goals. So one of the habits that helps build the thinking, do you want to achieve this goal? Yes, no, the answer is yes. Make it bigger. How many people do is in Do I need to impact to create that and start looking at those numbers start to get to that point where does feel uncomfortable? And then when you reach your goal out for the first time and you stutter when you say it? Or you start to question yourself, will tell you don't start to question yourself. The voice of the critic that you've learned to listen to in your head starts to question you. That's when you know you're in the right ballpark of the goal that you need to be playing into. Because you have that discomfort. You have that irritation. That you can then use as the energy to propel you forward to create the impact that you're designed to create a visceral level.I like that like just asking yourself when like, it's not big enough and tell the voices in my head start to question it. And then at that point, that's on the right track. Not that I think that's a huge, a fantastic question to ask yourself because I've, I've dealt with the question of like, if I know how to do it, then it's not big enough. And I've kind of stopped there, but I don't think I've gone personally with my goals to the point where it's like, Okay, everybody in my life is questioning whether that's just possible. I don't think I've set any goals that are that big. All the goals are. I have no idea how to accomplish them. But I know they're conceivable because I know other people have accomplished them by sub zero idea how I'm going to accomplish them. But that's different. then something that's such a big goal that everybody would be like, but that's not possible. Right? Put putting a man on the moon. It's not possible, right? Or something like that carving Mount Rushmore, it's I get these goals are so big that anybody who hears it not just a few people, but 99% of the population when they hear it, they're like, yeah, that's not gonna happen. There's no way. That's not possible yet, you know, and we're getting into with AI you mentioned earlier with AI, that's what's possible. Is itexpensive, exploding at an exponential rate for sure?growing fast, so I'm curious, Nathan, if we wanted to get more of your content and where are your books where you're, I mean, do you have your podcast, social media, where's the best place to get active with you? I imagine you serve and serve people all over the world. where's the best place to connect with you and get more of your insight on This season how to silence the fear or naysayers in our own lives. So, first things coming out on January 20th, 2020, book number one of my self-help trilogy, the art of fulfillment is coming out. That's called start working, start living. That's going to happen on the 20th of January will behave a little announcement on having a bit of a refurb of my current stuff. At the moment, I have just been to a two-day seminar and I got to speak or got to hear Tom bill, you speak. And I've seen some stuff around my work and how I can impact more people. So the best place to get ahold of me right now is on LinkedIn. While I'm doing a complete restructure of my thinking and how I can get to more people and create more impact and change more people's thinking so they can become more incredible than yesterday. Find me on LinkedIn, Nathan Simmons, leadership coach or find me there. Handsome chap. Nice beard. Send me a direct message. I would love to connect with you. Yeah, it's all about helping leaders out there. Double their income will half their workweek so they can build quality time and spend it with quality people. That's what I'm all about now.Yeah, that needs me to say I mean this whole thing is exactly. Again every guest I have on our have had on for the last few months. I feel like I've been able to handpick them a lot more the first year of my podcast loved all my guests there. But it was a lot more focused on what I was doing because I was doing using my podcast as a way to build content for books that I'm writing. And so it was more me focused. And over the last five, four or five months, I've shifted and said how can I get more people on here? They're going to further the conversation, fuel your legacy and challenge me as an Individual and challenge me and help me grow. And I'm learning from rather than people that I think I'm on the same level with how am I getting more people that are challenging the way I view the world and think, and that has come to pass. So for this next section here, and legacy on rapid-fire, and I'm sure you've heard this in some of the previous episodes. And so just five questions, we're going to go through them as fast as possible. Are you ready? Bring up? Awesome, what do you believe is holding you back from reaching the next level of your legacy?Me.So now that I've got clarity on Maria, and what I'm bringing to the world, all I need now to do is implement and take the information and put it in place.Okay, awesome. What do you think the hardest thing they've ever accomplished, has beensaying to myself that I'm going to start my own business and following through on that.Fantastic and what's your greatest success to this point in your life?To this point in my life,Crikey, I've got numerous clients that are doing phenomenal things. One of them has just doubled his salary and got promoted, and it's going to have a huge impact on the American educational system. That's awesome. Now, I love that. Yeah. What's another secret that you believe contributes to your success?Enjoying failure and questioning the living daylights out of it, until I find a valuable lesson that I can then grow fromthat skill in the world. According to my, I'm creating a whole journal that that is completely focused on that you should be able to buy it on Amazon. But yeah, it's focused on that. You can also get it on my website, but it's focused on reframing experiences that we have good and bad, and pulling lessons out of them. That's the whole purpose and focus of the is how do we reframe and experience and Paul lesson out of it? So I love that that's a secret of yours. And what are one or two or maybe three books that you think would be fantastic for the fuel your legacy audience to read?start with why Simon cynics straight upthinking grow rich. I'm looking furiously around my office right now thinking Grow Rich is a good one. And it's going to be either how to get rich by Felix Dennis, which is phenomenal or stealing fire because that's fundamentally shifted my thinking about how I approach life.Yes, they are all good books.I was on a kick for about a year and a half, two years. I read a book a week. Well, it was a lot of reading, listening, I listened to them on Audible, but some weeks it for shorter books. I would do two or three a week and it was a lot of content in so now it's like I don't remember where I picked this up from but it's in a book somewhere. That's really good information.I've got a disclaimer at the end of my book that says if I'm quoted anything here that is not mine, please let me know. So I can go back and reference the author and the owner accordingly. That's a good idea. I should throw that in mind.Because it's, it's a legit thing, like where you just, especially if you're consuming that much content over and over and over and over. And you don't even remember where you started living your life with certain things. You just started living your life that way. And it just seems as though your voices told it to yourself so often that you believe it's you saying it to even though it's from somebody else. Exactly. So and I would say that's where you want to get to because there's those good voices in your head and the bad voice in your head. That and I think they're both I say good and bad. They're both there to serve a purpose. And, and then you want to be programming what voices in your head that you listen to the most.Exactly, and if you spend time in the company of the Even fictitious characters like I've got Gandalf on my bookshelf, I've got Bruce Lee on my bookshelf. And if you spend time having conversations with those people even made up imaginary conversations, like in the mastermind principle of thinking Grow Rich, you will start to kind of have more thoughts like that individual, and potentially what you're writing will come out in a certain kind of esque way of that individual. So it's more likely you're going to repeat stuff that they do show or bring up new ideas in that sort of vein and it will sound similar toYeah, absolutely. And I feel like he should have said that. He didn't say I said itis Gator speaking? Now. Okay, so here's the here's my favorite part of the whole episode. Right? So it's the last question. And if you listen to the end of this podcast on other podcasts, and you know what I'm going to ask Nathan, and but get ready because if you haven't yet answered this for yourself, please do that. Write it down, share it with your family, share it with people around you and broadcast this to the world. So we're going to pretend that you've died, Nathan, you're dead gone. six generations from now. So this is six. This is your great great great great great grandchildren sitting around a table, you get the opportunity to come back and listen in to what they're saying and what they're saying about your life, your legacy, your contribution to the world. What do you want them to be saying about you and 200 years from now? This part may depend on how old those generations are when they're reading it. So there's part of me that doesn't almost want them to disbelieve what I'm saying. There's a part of me that wants them to read that book, and say, What is this guy going on? And then there's the other part of me that then wants them to go and live their lives and have those experiences and realize and then go back and go. Now I get it. Now I know what my purpose is. Now I know what the impact is I can have on the world because of going away and got these experiences. I've had some self-doubt I've had some disbelief have gone away and tested it, I've developed and now I'm going to deliver something even more incredible than he did six generations ago. And I'm going to expand his idea and create an even bigger impact on a galactic level, let alone a global levelthat has in six generations from now, we could be in a galactic universewill be starting to be a thing.Yeah, you never know. It's moving fast. That's awesome. I love that because I think that that's exactly in alignment with who you are. Your goal is to help other people identify their legacy and, and forward that and their purpose and get in touch with that. And that's that is very much mine as well. My input into one sentence is to empower people with financial confidence to create a meaningful legacy for them. Right. So very similar. Mine is maybe just focused slightly more on the financial side of how to fuel the legacy that they want to build. And but I love Love that answer for you. And I'm just so grateful for you taking the time to hop on this, this podcast and share your knowledge, share your skillset and share you with us because we're going to be able to go and go connect with you on LinkedIn, and hopefully other social media platforms as well anywhere that's possible by his book. “Are You Listening?” Luke 1:26-3812.01.19Core Belief: Authority of the Bible I believe the Bible is the Word of God and has the right to command my belief and action.2 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.Scripture: Luke 1:26-3826 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.The Message of this Passage:Today, for many of us, the Christmas season is a bit like a well-decorated Christmas tree. There are layers of tinsel and lights and all sorts of decorations and ornaments. If you decorated well, it can be hard, at least from a distance, to tell whether it's a real tree, a fir tree, or a plastic tree. The Christmas message, actually the Christmas season, has become overloaded with all the sentiment and the beautiful traditions of a Hallmark movie. It has become hard for us to determine if the Christmas message is just another myth to warm our hearts in the bleak midwinter or whether it is authentic after all. This is why it is so very helpful to read Luke’s account of the coming of the Lord Jesus. If you look at the first five verses of Chapter 1, you’ll see that Luke is really attentive to show that what happens in this story is grounded in history and is not merely the invention of a storyteller. In verse 2, he is working with eyewitness testimony as he writes this account. It is, he says, “an orderly account...”Concerning the ministry of the Lord Jesus, Luke sets it all in order so that the “most excellent Theophilus” (the man to whom he is writing) “may have certainty,” verse 4, “concerning the things you have been taught.”Luke based his writing on eyewitness testimony, set in order carefully so that we may have certainty. For those of us who are asking questions about the significant issues of our lives and who are struggling to know which way to turn, Luke’s account of the coming of the Lord Jesus will help us find the certainty and answers to the big questions.Christ's arrival is a real-world message that took place in a real place in real-time with real people.Answering Interpretive Questions:If we think about Mary’s human experience of meeting and talking with the angel Gabriel – what do we imagine that experience was?Would we want to have this experience ourselves? Why, or why not?Everyone in this story has a name; no one is an anonymous or generic individual, but a particular individual. What difference does this make in the way we read this text? Is it important? How?Why did Gabriel call Mary “O favored one?” What is he saying about Mary? What is he saying about God?Why is it important for Mary to know “the Lord is with” her? How is this fact related to her status as “favored one?”Why was Mary afraid, and on what basis does Gabriel tell her not to be afraid (v. 30)?Why is understanding OT passages crucial to understanding Gabriel’s message to Mary?To what areas of doubt, fear, disbelief, sorrow, unanswered prayer, brokenness, worry, anger, etc. might you apply the truth in v. 37?Have you ever considered the way God makes promises to His people (e.g., directly, as with Abraham; through angels, as with Hagar, or prophets, like Isaiah; through scripture? How do you relate and respond to God’s promises, and how do the stories of past fulfillments of promises influence the way you relate to God’s promises?NOTES:

Welcome to #171 with former hedge fund entrepreneur David Yarrow  who is now one of the world's best-selling fine art photographers. His photographs can sell for upwards $100,000 and hang in the homes of actor and fellow conservationist Leonardo De Caprio and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to name but two. Indeed his latest book includes a forward by Tom Brady, whilst his previous book, Wild Encounters, sold out numerous times and featured a forward by Prince William. But it wasn't always so. He chose a career in finance over a career in photography, spurning a job with Getty despite taking the iconic image of Diego Maradona holding the World Cup aloft in 1986. He eventually launched his own hedge fund before losing it all in the financial crisis - his marriage, his business. Everything. David decided to go all-in with photography and has built an unrivalled reputation documenting the most remarkable aspects of human nature and the animal kingdom whilst exploring some of the most dangerous, remarkable environments on earth. You may not think you've even got an interest in photography, yet I guarantee that you will have seen at least one or two of David's iconic photographs in your lifetime. From Diego Maradona holding the world cup aloft in 1986, he's now the world's best-selling wildlife photographer with images including great white sharks, lions, tigers, bears plus actresses and supermodels including Cara Delvingne, Pamela Anderson and Cindy Crawford. I caught up with David at the Maddox Gallery in Notting Hill, London, fresh from his appearance on the Piers Morgan TV show. Let's call it what it is: Theft. But hey HG, your copyright ran out! We just made a run at a piece of fiction, and we are just finishing up Post on this cautionary tale about How/Why civilizations fail. The story is about what a Historian might theorize about a failed civilization 500 years after its demise. It's intended to be comedic, so I hope it makes you smile (The Teaser that is - the finished product is almost complete.)

How did everything work together to communicate the message? How did they visualize the concept or narrative of the design? How could you use the ideas in your own way, to reflect your style? Buon ascolto! Capitolo primo Marzo 1969Mi chiamo Italo, ho 30 anni e oggi voglio chiedere una cosa importante a mia madre: “Raccontami la mia infanzia”.My name is Italo, I’m 30 years old and today I want to ask my mother something important: “Tell me about my childhood”.So che mia mamma, Caroline, non è la mia vera mamma. Non so altro: ho paura del mio passato.I know that my mother Caroline is not my real mother. That’s all I know: my past scares me.-  Mamma, raccontami la verità.- Mom, tell me the truth-  Sei sicuro Italo?- Are you sure, Italo?-  Sono pronto.-  I’m ready.- Va bene. Cominciamo. Sei nato 30 anni fa, in Italia. Per questo ti chiami Italo.- Fine. Let’s start. You were born 30 years ago, in Italy. That’s why your name is Italo.- Già, Italo non è un nome americano.- Yeah, Italo is not an American name.- Si, è vero. Ma è un bel nome.- Yes, that’s true. But it’s a beautiful name.Vivo in America, parlo americano. Non ho mai visto l’Italia, solo in televisione.I live in America, I speak American. I’ve never seen Italy. Only on TV.- I tuoi veri genitori erano molto poveri. Vivevano nella città di Torino, tuo papà era un operaio. Quando eri ancora molto piccolo, avevi due anni, è scoppiata la guerra.- Your real parents were very poor. They lived in the city of Torino, your father was a laborer. When you were still very young, the war broke out.-  La Seconda Guerra Mondiale.- The Second World War.- Esatto. I tuoi genitori ti amavano molto, ma era pericoloso restare in Italia.  Così, sei venuto in America.- Yeah. Your parents really loved you, but staying in Italy was dangerous. So you came to America.- Come? Perché loro non sono venuti con me?- How? Why didn’t they come with me?- Erano troppo poveri. Your mother’s cousin, Anna, lived here in America. My husband, Harry, was a friend of hers. Your parents decided to send you to America, far from the war. Harry was in Italy for work in May 1941. With some false documents, he brought you with him here in America, to your aunt.Sono sconvolto. Ho tante domande.I’m shocked. I have many questions.- E dov’è ora la cugina di mia madre?- Where is mother's cousin now?- È morta tre mesi dopo il tuo arrivo. Un incidente. Non ti ricordi, eri molto piccolo.- She died three months after your arrival. An accident. You can’t remember, you were very young.- E poi?- And then?- Harry voleva adottarti. Si era innamorato di te nel viaggio dall’Italia all’America. Eri un bambino molto dolce. Sei diventato nostro figlio quando avevi due anni.- Harry wanted to adopt you. He fell in love with you during the journey from Italy to America. You were a very sweet child. You became our son when you were two.Così, sono venuto in America perché in Italia c’era la guerra. Sono stato adottato. Sembra un film. So, I came to America because there was a war in Italy. I was adopted. It sounds like a film.- E i miei genitori? Dove sono? Che cosa fanno? Sono vivi?- What about my parents? Where are they? What do they do? Are they alive?- Non sappiamo. Con la guerra, era difficile restare in contatto.- We don’t know. During the war, it was hard to keep in touch.-  Come si chiamavano?- What were their names?-  Sappiamo solo i loro nomi: Paola e Carlo.-  We only know their first names: Paola and Carlo.- Forse sono ancora vivi.

Sound Health Options - Sharry Edwards & TalkToMeGuy

Frequency is the basis of our universe. We measure it, study it, quantify it and use it to understand ourselves, our environment, our biochemistry and our behaviors. But what if there were more to our origins? What if Frequency (the measurement of Vibration), the basis of everything, is more than synthetic equations; what if math is organic:  If so, could we be considered math-based life forms. Sound can be explained in terms of Frequency, musical notes and is often described using frequency as cycles per second.  In many cases Sound/Music/Frequency facilitates healing.  How/Why can/does this happen?  Our brain function is often measured in terms of frequency bands. Could the stimulation of frequency bands facilitate changes in the human body?   Consider the brain as the central processing unit.  Frequency based signals are generated and have been determined to be a communication pathway travelling along our neural networks that self-monitor and  keep our bodies in stasis.

Jeanne Bishop, Attorney, Author, Social Justice Leader   On Friday, January 6, 2017, at Noon At the Union League Club The First Friday Club of Chicago Welcomes Attorney and Author Jeanne Bishop   Who will address the topic “Forgiveness: The impossible virtue”   Many people in Chicago remember the horrible events of an unspeakable crime that took place in the northern suburbs 26 years ago.  Newspaper and television coverage was extensive and emotionally exhausting.  The story is familiar but the names of the people involved appear to have been forgotten.   Our speaker, Jeanne Bishop and her family, seemed to be living the American Dream.  She and her siblings were born and raised in a quiet, safe, well to do suburb.  She attended Northwestern University and had a good job at a top Chicago law firm.   The world changed for them on a dark night in 1990, just before Easter.  After a family dinner to celebrate the impending birth of her younger sister’s baby, tragedy struck.  Jeanne received a phone call the next morning. Her sister Nancy, brother-in-law Richard, and the unborn baby were gone.  Murdered in their own home, in the sleepy village of Winnetka.  … How? … Why?   Did the family experience crushing sadness? Yes. Was there anger and bitterness?  Maybe at first.  Was there a Desire for Revenge??   Jeanne will share her long journey of Forgiveness.  A journey that started when she told the police investigators that she didn't want to hate anybody.  Along the way she spent time with the author of Dead Man Walking, Sister Helen Prejean, lobbied Gov. George Ryan about the death penalty, and met others who challenged her to examine her faith and Christian beliefs.   Would you have the courage or compassion to go to the prison where your sister’s murderer was incarcerated? Could you tell him he was Forgiven? Is Forgiveness an impossible virtue?

With the socialist government controlling all aspects of the economy and 94% tax rates on business, what was left of any entrepreneurship, free market enterprise and capitalism have been completely eradicated.  Today, with oil exports being the main source of income for the government, the impacts of low crude and the ever increasing cost burden of the socialist state have brought the country to it's hands and knees. The government cannot provide basic necessities and people are reportedly eating cats, dogs and hunting pigeons for food. In this episode I discuss How and Why democratic Socialist Venezuela got here and why I believe what it needs to recover is a higher degree of Wealth Inequality.

What if your customers marketed your product for you everywhere they went? That would be amazing, right? That's exactly what happened to Katie Alarid when she created her adorably unique baby turbans. Immaculately accessorized babies were marketing her product all over the country, and her business has grown enormously in less than two years' time! Katie's turbans are now in 23 boutiques, and she sells even more of them from her own online shop.  Is there a product you can create that would market itself? Can you make something so unique, eye-catching, or useful that people can't help but talk about it? I think you can! Press Play on the Podcast Player below to hear from Katie and learn how to get your customers talking too! See A (Tiny) Need, Fill A Need On the day Katie’s little girl came home from the hospital, she promptly threw up in her hospital-provided hat which sent Katie scrambling to find a replacement. Katie insisted on keeping her daughter’s tender head covered and protected from germs, so she whipped up a creation with some extra fabric and her unique design was born. Visitors later that day commented on how cute the ‘baby turban’ was, and Katie’s business was inspired. (We just love how Katie saw a need and filled a need in the same afternoon!) Seriously, how cute is this?! A Business is Born Someone suggested to Katie that she ask a local shop in town to carry the baby turban. While the compliments of friends and family are great, Katie wanted that ‘real live stranger’ factor we mentioned in Episode 127. Being a savvy business mom, Katie made her sales call with her adorable daughter in tow. And of course, her baby was wearing a product sample. That did the trick! That shop placed their first order and, from there, word-of-mouth helped Blu Taylor organically spread. Katie and her husband also decided to purchase a website to establish their brand's online presence. Getting Into Boutiques A boutique owner 70 miles away from Katie picked up the baby turban and quickly contacted other boutique owners about carrying the item. During a Holiday House Junior League event in Little Rock, Blu Taylor set up a booth and sold turbans. Customers from that event - with their little girls modeling the turban hats all over their towns - actually brought the word back to other wholesalers in their areas. Talk about organic growth! Every time a customer goes outside wearing their adorable turban, the company grows. People can't help but talk about how cute little girls look in these unique hats. They stand out! Blu Taylor is currently in 23+ boutiques, but surprisingly Katie finds that her online retail storefront is stronger in terms of sales.  Driving Online Traffic Katie finds that Instagram is a great driver of online traffic for her business. She sends her Instagram photos to Facebook and Twitter, responding to comments on all platforms promptly. Katie believes that her product is unique and something customers are excited to talk about. A testament to the strong word-of-mouth referral Blu Taylor enjoys is how her products have spread to new markets. Katie notices that if she receives an order from a new state, like Oregon for example, in a few weeks she’ll receive more orders from that state. Once again, as that Mama's little girl is spotted all over town in her unique accessory, other mamas ask her about it and promptly head online to get their own! Katie has personally experienced the ‘Wow!’ factor of her own product. Her husband jokes that their daughter needs to take off her baby turban in stores so they can get through shopping quicker... otherwise everyone stops them to talk about that adorable hat! Instagram Strategy = Cute Babies Katie sees the largest portion of her online traffic come as direct traffic via Instagram. In addition, people see her brand name on Instagram and then type in her website directly or search for her on Google. Katie has several tips on how she makes consistent sales with Instagram. Post consistently. Consistency is key when it comes to Instagram. Katie tries to share at least three pictures a day. Her tip is that every 6 to 9 posts should display a complete representation of your company. For Blu Taylor that means sharing pictures of their products and preemie program, sharing photos from happy customers, and providing general information about their brand. Katie says it is important to plan out an Instagram strategy. Make connections using Instagram’s ‘Explore’ search. Katie suggests using the ‘Explore’ search on Instagram. Katie would use this feature to find moms who just had a baby girl, liking and complimenting them. Or she reaches out to moms who may be in the NICU, offering to send a preemie hat to their baby for free. Don’t be afraid to recycle posts. Katie doesn’t follow a strict system but, generally, while thumbing through old images if she sees one that garnered a lot of likes she will reuse that image. Katie’s philosophy is that the people who saw her Instagram post at 7pm 2 months ago won’t be the same people who see her post at 8am 3 months from now. Makes sense! List your website in two places. Interestingly, Katie will put the text of her Web address (www.BluTaylor.com) at the bottom of many of her Instagram posts. Her analytics suggest that visitors are leaving the app and manually typing in the Web address into their mobile browsers. What a great idea to have your website in two places, profile and post! Regardless of whether that post link is clickable, people see your web address one more time and it sticks in their memory even more. Why Starting with Wholesale has Made Katie Successful in Retail Katie has experienced nice profitability with both retail and wholesale, which you don’t often see with a handmade business. BluTaylor began as a wholesale business, selling their hats in bulk to various boutiques, and eventually began to sell their hats online in their own boutique and at shows. Katie finds that women usually don’t give themselves enough credit for their time and skills when setting prices. BluTaylor operates by setting their retail prices after a wholesale price is set. This ensures that the business is profitable no matter who they sell to - boutique owners or direct to their customers. Starting out with distributing her products in boutiques has really helped Katie’s pricing model. With boutique prices on her baby turbans in place, Katie already knows what a healthy profit margin is for her product and can set the retail price accordingly. Katie has also found that doing some market research has helped her set retail prices. She asks her customers how much value they place on the product and then sets prices accordingly. Honoring Boutique Owners Katie’s business model really values boutique owners. Initially, BluTaylor did set a lower wholesale price, but as the cost of production grew, Katie found that she needed to increase her wholesale prices to make her business work. It was scary, but she had to approach her wholesale accounts to let them know about the price increase. Katie found that moving up both wholesale and retail prices incrementally softens the news of a price change. Though Katie feared many boutique owners would bail ship, only one account decided to not carry her baby hats out of 23 total. That one lost account is easily worth it considering that Katie's time and talent is now properly valued, and her business is sustainable. Katie's philosophy when dealing with boutiques is that no other person in their business will be buying their products at the level boutique owners will. She wants to give her boutique owners respect, so she will never undercut them on her own site. It's truly a smart, and caring strategy, if you think about it. Eliminate cross-competition and everyone wins! I just can't even! Too cute! Rebranding: The Why + How When BluTaylor was founded in the summer of 2012 with a different business name, ‘Baby Turban’. The phrase accurately described her product and was easy to remember. (Katie still owns the trademark on that name.) As word spread about her adorable baby turbans, customers wanted the product in larger sizes for their older children, and even for themselves! Creating a ‘Baby Turban’ kids' line felt off. And Katie found that older customers were hesitant to wear a product with the word ‘baby’ in the name. To make her brand more accessible, ‘Baby Turban’ became BluTaylor. In a smart move, Katie bought multiple domain names with iterations of both business names, and linked them to the new site, BluTaylor.com. Katie did not notice a decline in sales after her rebrand, and made it a point to share information about the re-brand for several months in all of her packaging and on social media. Katie’s customers are so loyal that she even had one contact her in a panic: “There’s a new shop called BluTaylor and they stole your design!” Katie had to laugh. What a dedicated fanbase! BluTaylor’s Preemie Program When Katie’s son was born, he spent four days in the NICU after a high temperature scare and rush to the ER. While their time in the NICU was short, she felt for the many families who experienced much longer NICU stays. As Katie developed her baby turbans, she realized that the unique design snugly fit the head of a preemie very well. She challenged herself to create a hat small enough for a micropreemie and succeeded. Since the skin of a micropreemie is so incredibly sensitive, they are only able to wear a few pieces of clothing - like hats. After creating the micropreemie version of her hats, Katie sent a few to families at their local NICU, and a BluTaylor tradition was born. BluTaylor custom makes baby hats for families who request one on their website. The hats are a gift. Since no mom is really prepared for the arrival of a premature baby, Katie wants to bless the families with a needed item. Something as simple as providing a cute baby hat creates a sense of normalcy for the families, and gives them hope. Why ‘BluTaylor’? ‘Blu’ stands for blue, the color of hope. And ‘Taylor’ is a fun way to represent tailor-made. With each hat purchase, a preemie-size hat is donated to a family with a daughter in the NICU. Katie knows that many moms in one local hospital received a hat via BluTaylor’s preemie program. A nurse contacted Katie to thank her for the donations, and said their NICU looks like a runway with all these en vogue baby girls! Katie's Adorable Mom Moment Katie’s youngest daughter, Charlotte, was the inspiration for Blu Taylor and has worn her mom’s adorable creations from day one! You'll have to tune in to hear about the adorable move she does because she's just so used to serving as a product model. It's too funny and too cute! Find Katie Online! A discussion on how to improvise during those rather "static" chord vamps. And the second topic has also been a very "in demand" one recently: bebop. How? Why? ... and who? I believe that every jazz guitarist should be a well versed bebop player. This podcast originally appeared on the blog here: https://www.jazzguitarlessons.net/blog/podcast-5-chord-vamp-solos-bebop

Debjyoti Saha joins us on Audiogyan. For those who follow him on Instagram knows his style of work and the recently gone viral series, Korona. But I am not going to introduce him by that. Debjyoti is an animator, illustrator and draws comics. His work is heavily influenced by his interactions with cities he has lived in, and it’s clear that his observations of such detail, reflects in his animated and illustrated stories. What got me interested in knowing his thoughts and work (which he himself calls) which is not very heavy on production, but has a deep-rooted thought. Questions * What is your definition of storytelling? How has to change over time? From still images to moving images? Can you share your learnings, pros, and cons with both these ways of expression? * Your work seems to be quite diverse in terms of styling. Is it a conscious choice/effort or you are still exploring? * Do you think abstract animations and storytelling can be relatable? How? Why make such things? * Can you please explain your process a bit more in detail - How do you pick a topic, build a story, and then how does it manifest into a short film/movie? * "Animated" as a keyword can be loosely translated as "Exaggerated". Do you think, you building a counter-narrative to the mainstream media can backfire? * Do you think there are leftists bhakts? I mean do you think uneducated leftist bhakts simply praise your work or do you have any other insights? https://www.instagram.com/debjyoti.saha/?hl=en https://www.joinpaperplanes.com/design-and-living/eye-candy-fishmongers-with-debjyoti-saha/ https://www.hindustantimes.com/art-and-culture/korona-debjyoti-saha-paints-a-different-picture-of-the-coronavirus-pandemic-in-india/story-r8a0XVMk3V9bhxz7SWX4pO.html
