Yes, he feels strongly about it. No, he's not an Addiction expert. But he does have some people who are experts who are as frustrated as he is about the use of the word. Dot Dot Fire makes fun educational games for kids and schools in STEM and financial literacy topics. Guest Hilary Lok is the Founder and Chief Designer.THEME: The Fine Line of Ethical DesignBIG IDEA: For-profit video game designers have to carefully operate between traditional extremes; the traditional tactics of freemium games are too exploitative, yet making boring and free games isn't sustainable. One way DDF has done so is by making their apps relatable rather than addictive. If players can relate with the protagonist's story, they'll be emotionally invested in a much more positive sense than if they were encouraged to mindlessly repeat price-extracting actions (eg using a loot box).FAVORITE QUOTE: "If people are happy buying a textbook with quality educational content, why shouldn’t that be the same with video games? We’re hoping to change the status quo so that people will recognize that if something is valuable to them and they’re paying for it, then they are the customer and the company is serving them."If liked this episode, checkout: News Feed Eradicator and Future EthicsLove Campfire? Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy Podcast

OVERVIEW: Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast talks about his experiences starting an online business. He shares the top three things he learned and three business principles to keep in mind.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: The first time Jason added an online education component to his business was in 2016. He created 2 nursing school entrance exams review courses. One of the lessons he learned is the market is very commoditized and the price you charge should be in line with what the market demands. Otherwise, clients will go to the competition. Two of the mistakes he committed was choosing the wrong topic to teach and not knowing how to create a course hosting platform. From there, Jason started a brick and mortar business for Ketamine Therapy in Albuquerque, which he ultimately sold. Jason’s second lesson was learning how to leverage brick and mortar success for digital growth. He turned his Ketamine Therapy success into an online education course. .  So far, Jason has trained 800 students through the Ketamine Academy.  Jason’s third lesson is tied to expansion and partnerships. Along with KC Devine, Jason launched a second course, the IV Therapy Academy. They’ve sold almost $1.6M in online education and trained 1,500 students. He recommends three business principles to keep in mind. They include creating a beta program and pre-selling, honing in on time management and realizing you don’t have to be a salesperson to sell online education programs.    3 KEY POINTS: Business Principle 1: Creating an online business with an online revenue system. Jason recommends creating a beta program and pre-selling the course so you won’t waste time and money. Business Principle 2: The limited time fallacy. Jason emphasizes the importance of managing time wisely. Use apps to be mindful of how you’re  spending your time, such as Newsfeed Eradicator for Facebook and Momentum.  Business Principle 3: You can sell online education programs without being a salesperson. Set up systems and automations to handle this aspect of the business.    TWEETABLE QUOTES: “You can sell your product, you can sell your knowledge online without ever having to do sales. You don’t have to be a salesperson.” - Jason Duprat   “If you take care of your students, if you get them the results you promised them, your students will actually do the marketing and sales for you.” - Jason Duprat   RESOURCES MENTIONED: Ketamine Academy - https://www.ketamineprofessionals.com/enroll IV Therapy Academy - https://www.ivtherapyacademy.com/ IVTherapy Free Live Masterclass - https://go.ivtherapyacademy.com/webinar-registration1587410015485?sl=ivawebsite Newsfeed Eradicator for Facebook -https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/news-feed-eradicator-for/fjcldmjmjhkklehbacihaiopjklihlgg?hl=en Momentum - https://momentumdash.com   #HealthcareEntrepreneurAcademy #HealthcareBoss #healthcare #entrepreneur #entrepreneurship #onlinebusiness #onlinecourse #ketamine #ivtherapy #digitalstrategy

Journey to $100 Million

Mental health is tough to guard these days, especially working in social media. Our Social Media Manager Shannon touches on the tough topics flooding our feeds & gives advice on how can we not be drowned by the darkness while still staying informed. Here's her tips: 1) Don't check your phone in the AM & set a screen limit - create pockets in your day where you don't look at your phone, and don't start your day with scrolling through the feeds. 2) Daily routines - Instead of turning to your phone right when you wake up, do something to set your mind right first thing when you wake up. 3) Keep your phone away from you while working - If everything is accessible on your computer & you're able, keep your phone a few feet away or even in another room if you have no important phone calls potentially coming through. 4) Extensions to block distractions - It's easy to get lost in the scroll from time-to-time, even in a regular news cycle. Shannon's favorite distraction-blocker is News Feed Eradicator for Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/news-feed-eradicator-for/fjcldmjmjhkklehbacihaiopjklihlgg?hl=en 5) Focus on the positives - There's always going to be bad news of course, but there's good news, too. So if you're working in social media like Shannon, remember when to stop working! Keep pockets of your day screen-free, don't get lost in the scroll, and be optimistic. Over leegte enzo. The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast 166: When & How to Hire a VA (virtual assistant) with Sandra Booker   Description: Running a yoga business is more than just teaching yoga classes. From scheduling and collecting payments, to sales and marketing, to promotion and logistics, we may find ourselves needing help with different elements of running a business. That's where a Virtual Assistant (VA) can come in handy, but where do we start?   Sandra Booker is the founder of Any Old Task, where she provides small business owners with Business Support and Assistant Services. She specializes in workflow and process review, and helps streamline business processes and develop efficient workflows to keep things organized and on track. She also helps startup VAs generate the same kind of raving clientele she enjoys in her own business as part of her work at VA Studio.    Do you really need a VA or you need to look at your own productivity? What should you look at before hiring a VA? How much would a VA cost? Where can you find them, and what are some questions you should ask before hiring? Sandra answers all of our questions about bringing a VA onto your team, and shares some of the benefits that having a VA on your team could provide.   If you've ever thought about bringing in help into your business but aren't sure what that would look like, this episode will be an eye-opener.   Key Takeaways: [10:33] Shannon introduces her guest for this episode - Sandra Booker. [12:05] What is the work that Sandra does and who does she do it for? [14:22] How can yoga business owners tell when they need to hire a VA? [16:49] Sandra clarifies when someone might need an OBM vs a VA. [18:09] How much do VAs charge? [21:08] Sandra also teaches VAs how to build up their own practice. [23:39] How specialized should your VA be? [26:44] How can we prepare to hire a VA? [29:31] It can be hard to give up tasks that we're so used to doing. How can we decide what to keep and what to give up? [32:55] Shannon and Sandra discuss some of the benefits of having a VA on your team. [39:15] What are some things we need to do prior to hiring a VA? [43:31] Sandra has some tips around when you might start looking for a VA. [47:50] Your job posting can include some screening questions to filter out applicants to hire. [50:07] Sandra offers her prospective clients a call to assess if they are a fit for her VA services. [52:43] How else can you find a VA? Sandra has some suggestions about how to find a VA who is a fit for you and your business. [55:06] Sandra has a few final tips for anyone thinking about hiring a VA. [59:08] Get in touch with Sandra via her website or email. [59:38] Shannon shares her key takeaways from this episode. They don't work with shampoo, they don't work with VAs."   "If you have anything less than 10 hrs of work to hand off to somebody a month, you probably don't really need a VA yet."

Welcome to Jon's author diary for the week ending January 12, 2020. I returned to the writing desk on Monday and started getting up at 5am again to meditate and exercise before writing. Because of taking time off for Christmas and New Year, my sleep pattern shifted by about three-four hours. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were solid writing days…Thursday sucked. I felt completely wiped-out. I’m not sure if it was the sleep pattern change catching up with me or whether it was SAD rearing its ugly head again, but I only managed to write 1,000 words (I usually do 5,000+). This was on the day I heard that Brandon Sanderson wrote 19,000 words in one day to finish the next book in the Stormlight Archive (I cannot wait to read that!) I’ve been working on the first draft of Temperance, book 14 of The Ravenglass Chronicles, in the mornings, and on the second draft of Blind Reset (the follow-up to Blind Gambit) in the afternoons. This new way of doing things has been working well for me (except on Thursday). Based on the way the stories are progressing, I should have Temperance ready for the editor in two weeks and Blind Reset by Easter.   Social media blackout Throughout December, I decided to take a break from social media. I went off Facebook and Twitter for forty days. I’ve decided that Twitter showcases the worst of what humanity has to offer, so I won’t be going back on there again. As for Facebook, I’ve installed a plug-in for Chrome which replaces the newsfeed with an inspirational quote (it’s called Newsfeed Eradicator). This means I can do the tasks I need to do on Facebook and get out without getting distracted. Perfect! I’ve also decided to keep my phone free of social media and notifications. I have to admit that at first I found myself absently picking up my phone to check Facebook. But that stopped after a few days. I realised I need social media to work for me, not for me to be compelled to use it without much conscious thought. I’m definitely going to do more social media blackouts in the future…I’m sure my sanity will thank me.     Guilty pleasures I got into a show on Netflix over the holidays called Ancient Aliens. I don’t subscribe to the whole ancient astronaut theory, but I am interested in ancient civilisations. This show features amazing footage of megalithic structures, pyramids, underwater cities, etc. It’s a case of not throwing the baby out with the bath water. Plus, the leaps in logic from “here’s a funny-looking rock” to “this is definitely evidence of ancient alien technology” is always entertaining.   Podcasting Over the Christmas break, I posted a review of 2019, my favourite reads of 2019, and an outline of my 2020 goals on my author diary podcast feed. In the latest episode, I talk about what I did over Christmas and New Year, how I plan to beat SAD next winter, my thoughts on The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, and my experience watching Groundhog Day for the first time… Visit: joncronshaw.libsyn.com to listen now or subscribe to Jon Cronshaw’s Author Diary on you podcast app of choice. Ah! I'm so excited to be talking with Sarah Deragon for this week's episode of Raise Your Hand Say Yes. Sarah is one of my favorite creative business ladies and I can't believe it took me this long to have her on the show! Not only has Sarah built Portraits to the People, her Identity Project has changed the lives of people all over the world! Pssst...Northern California peeps, Sarah recently moved up to wine country in case you need a North Bay photographer!  This week, we talk all about Sarah's journey in her creative business which she started in 2012 and the different side projects she's pursued during the building of Portraits to the People. We also talk about the truth behind the stories social media tells and the power of shifting your focus so that you stay connected to the work you're doing. We also talk about creative slumps and the cycles that creative businesses go through.  If you ever find yourself struggling with how to evolve your creative work or define yourself or just stay focused on your own work instead of everyone else's, this message is for you!
