On this episode, I spoke to sound designer Luke Gibleon and co-supervising sound editor Paul P. Soucek about their work on The Fall Guy.  Gibleon is a 5x Emmy nominee for his work on Avatar: The Last Airbender, Masters of the Air, The Underground Railroad, El Camino and Twin Peaks. He is also a 4x MPSE Golden Reel Award winner for his work on The Underground Railroad, Greyhound, Togo and El Camino. He has also been nominated for The Continental, John Wick: Chapter 4, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, Game of Thrones, and A Faster Horse.  Soucek is a 2x MPSE Golden Reel Award nominee for his work on John Wick: Chapter 4 and Michael Clayton.  MORE ABOUT THE FALL GUY: He's a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right? From real life stunt man and director David Leitch, the blockbuster director of Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and the producer of John Wick, Nobody and Violent Night, comes his most personal film yet. A new hilarious, hard-driving, all-star apex-action thriller and love letter to action movies and the hard-working and under-appreciated crew of people who make them: The Fall Guy. Oscar® nominee Ryan Gosling (Barbie, La La Land, Drive) stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie—being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, played by Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place films, Sicario)—goes missing. While the film's ruthless producer (Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham; Ted Lasso), maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Golden Globe winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Bullet Train) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film's most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody's good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt. Inspired by the hit 1980s TV series, The Fall Guy also stars Winston Duke (Black Panther franchise) and Academy Award® nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once). From a screenplay by Hobbs & Shaw screenwriter Drew Pearce, The Fall Guy is produced by Kelly McCormick (Bullet Train, Nobody, Atomic Blonde) and David Leitch for their company 87North, and by Ryan Gosling and by Guymon Casady (Game of Thrones, Steve Jobs and executive producer of the upcoming series Ripley) for Entertainment 360. The film is executive produced by Drew Pearce, Entertainment 360's Geoff Shaevitz and the creator of the original Fall Guy television series, Glen A. Larson.

In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing THE FALL GUY (2024), from writers Glen A. Larson and Drew Pearce, the film is directed by David Leitch.  Stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) suffers an almost fatal injury and is pulled out of a self-imposed retirement when he's asked to work on a movie directed by his former girlfriend, Jody (Emily Blunt), but quickly learns there's more to this job than taking a few bumps and possibly rekindling an old romance.  He must also find the film's missing star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) more to help Jody but learns a few secrets along the way.  The film clocks in at 2 h and 67 m, is rated PG-13 and is available to buy/rent on Prime Video. Vamos a verlo.

I spend more time on the IMDb app than any human being should.  I love pausing whatever I'm watching to look it up on IMDb and study the cast, trivia, filming locations, etc.  I call these my little rabbit holes and this episode of the podcast is a journey through forgotten TV shows and movies that started when I thought I recognized actor Mark Blankfield from a Saved By The Bell episode.  This somehow leads us to a discussion of The Incredible Shrinking Woman, Joe Pesci's forgotten TV show Half Nelson, and some of Glen A. Larson's TV misses like Manimal, Automan, The HighwayMan, Chameleons, and NightMan.  We're also gonna touch on ABC's sketch show Fridays, abysmal made for TV movie sequels, and Tarzan's link to a religious cult.  Somehow this all ends with The Sopranos and I don't even remember how I got there.  Enjoy!

On Episode 144 of the RETROZEST podcast, Curtis continues and concludes a celebration the 45th Anniversary of the premiere of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA! This show is an American science fiction media franchise created by Glen A. Larson. It began with the original television series in 1978, and was followed by a short-run sequel series (Galactica 1980), a line of book adaptations, original novels, comic books, a board game, video games and a reboot series. Assisting Curtis in this endeavor with an exclusive interview is the composer and conductor of the score for BSG, STU PHILLIPS! Stu and Curtis had a great discussion about the music score for BSG, and the many other aspects of his long career. With Colpix Records, Stu produced high-charting hits for James Darren, Nina Simone, The Skyliners, Shelley Fabares, and The Monkees. He also furnished music for Columbia's television series, including The Donna Reed Show (with Fabares) and The Monkees. In the mid-1960s, he worked for Capitol Records and created, produced and arranged for the easy listening studio orchestra the Hollyridge Strings. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Phillips continued scoring films and television series including music for the films Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970), The Seven Minutes (1971) and the television series Get Christie Love!. In 1974, he began working at Universal Studios scoring television series; Glen A. Larson made extensive use of his compositions. During this time, he scored music for the television series Switch, McCloud, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Quincy M.E. and (of course) Battlestar Galactica. He also composed music for the television series The Amazing Spider-Man. After moving to 20th Century Fox Television, Stu composed music for The Fall Guy and Knight Rider. JJ, Tom & Paul embark on summing up the Glen A. Larson produced scifi spectacle that, much like Lord of the Rings, despite pre-dating Star Wars, only came out after that said title made it possible for studios to envision adapting fantasy material from books and comics.   Does Buck still hold up for today's viewers? Why did it get cancelled? For a rather popular show with viewers, why were critics so stuck up about it? How does it fare to similar post-Star Wars/Trek shows like Space 1999, UFO and the original Battlestar Galactica? Why does Farscape owe so much to its premise? And more revisiting of a cult phenomenon!     MAIN LINKS:  LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/JURSPodcast Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/JackedUpReviewShow/ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2452329545040913 Twitter: https://twitter.com/JackedUpReview  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jacked_up_podcast/          SHOW LINKS: YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCIyMawFPgvOpOUhKcQo4eQQ   iHeartRadio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-jacked-up-review-show-59422651/   Podbean: https://jackedupreviewshow.podbean.com   Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7Eg8w0DNympD6SQXSj1X3M   Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-jacked-up-review-show-podcast/id1494236218   RadioPublic: https://radiopublic.com/the-jacked-up-review-show-We4VjE   Overcast: https://overcast.fm/itunes1494236218/the-jacked-up-review-show-podcast   Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy9hNDYyOTdjL3BvZGNhc3QvcnNz   Anchor:  https://anchor.fm/s/a46297c/podcast/rss   PocketCasts: https://pca.st/0ncd5qp4   CastBox:  https://castbox.fm/channel/The-Jacked-Up-Review-Show-Podcast-id2591222

The original 'Battlestar Galactica', while a flawed and imperfect science-fiction TV series of the 1978 season, remains one of the most important and influential science-fiction TV series of all time. I'm joined again by Richard Brown (see our 'WKRP in Cincinnati', 'Taxi', and 'Network' episodes for more RF Brown) as we delve into the creation story of Battlestar and its creator, Glen A. Larson, known as "Glen Larceny" for his transparent adopting of movie concepts for his tv series. We run down some of Glen's Greatest Hits. Jumping into the making of the series, we drop down to discuss the insanely complicated way that the Cylon robot voices were produced back in the day.  Audio geeks and vintage recording equipment nerds will particularly enjoy that section, with full credit to YouTuber Supajc for his excellent video series. As Rick and I run through the cast and crew of Battlestar, we talk pros and cons and what-might-have-beens. I of course profess a decided appreciation for the much-maligned "Battlestar Galactica 1980", an admittedly misguided too-late network attempt to get the show right once and for all. The extraterrestrial comedy podcast where we probe Igor Terzic. We also probe Barry Macdonald. Are the tales of these two gentlemen connected? Before that though, we get sidetracked on the facts of Glasgow and the worlds biggest drinking bars. We then get back to Igor, in the middle, of the road… On that note, did Igor drive a 1967 Shelby GT and is this a lovely motor or a pile of rusting trash? Whilst taking this ride, we also ponder whether Moonwalker would make love to a car and whether Greybeard is the Butt Smasher (of House Butt Smash - remember the previous episode). Just to add folks, we are aware that whales don't really have huge gaping butts. We know whales do mushy scale 5-6 poops and we don't really think that a human could be digested, pass through and come out of a whale whole. But Moonwalker could. We mean my gosh, have you seen the man? Knight Rider somehow comes up as we move on and we ask you, loyal probers, will Moonwalker review the whole series? We have some time left over after Igor vanishes so we then briefly covered Barry Macdonald and a sighting Barry was able to record due to going on a secluded wander with his lady-friend and coincidently having a video camera set up and ready to go. There's nothing suspicious there, folks. We watched the UK television show footage courtesy of GMTV before drawing our conclusions. All that and more on this week's file.   Barry's GMTV YouTube video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ojc9OARUPQc      Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/butitwasaliens   Store: https://butitwasaliens.co.uk/shop/     Probe us: Email: butitwasaliens@gmail.com Instagram @ ButItWasAliensPodcast Twitter @ ButItWasAliens Facebook: @ ButItWasAliens - join Extraterrestrial Towers     Music:  Music created via Garageband. Additional music via: https://freepd.com - thank you most kindly good people. Of course, as we parodied the story we couldn't resist an instrumental snippet from Kyle Gass and Jack Black's rocking band Tenacious D's first single from their self-titled 2001 album, Tribute. Which is not the greatest song in the world, no, it's just a tribute. That song resides under Epic labels catalogue and was produced by the Dust Brothers. Check it out on all good streaming platforms, what a song! A bit of trivia for our UK listeners - Tribute was never actually released as a single in the UK despite its massive air time and popularity. Alongside that there was an ever so brief snippet from Mario Kart 64's Toad's Turnpike courtesy of Nintendo (and composed by Kenta Nagata) as we discussed traffic coming towards Igor. We also included, mainly for Moonwalker's benefit, a snippet of the Stuart Phillips composition, the theme from 1980's television staple Knight Rider starring David Hasselhoff. Wikipedia also lists Glen A. Larson as a composer of that iconic theme.

This week we take a look at "Nightman", a comic book turned television show that ran for two seasons from 1996-1998. It was created by Glen A. Larson, a prolific creator who is responsible for such classics as "Magnum P.I.", "Battlestar Galactica", "Knight Rider" and "Hawaii Five-O". Well, even great creatives sometimes make garbage. Nightman is currently available on the free (with commercials) streaming service Tubi. It is, in every way, unintentionally funny. I mean, it's about a "famous" saxophonist (who solos at a club no less) who is struck by lightening on a cable car and suddenly can hear the bad guy's thoughts. What can go wrong?

When Walter and Automan chase a suspect to the palatial estate of a well-respected judge, Walter decides to track down any lead that will implicate him. But he also sets Automan a task to become more socially attuned via watching the films Saturday Night Fever, Flashdance, and Staying Alive. Will it make Automan a better asset when circumstances send him and Walter to Las Vegas in search of a leggy brunette? Will the captain and Lt. Curtis learn the truth about Automan? And will we ever learn why a casino in 1983 would still have a disco? The Fanbase Weekly's Drew Siragusa joins Erik and Justin for a lively discussion of the early 1980s, the Automan premise, and the Emergency Medical Hologram. Erik's obsession with Staying Alive becomes part of the conversation, as does Glen A. Larson's alleged need for milk. Drew also weighs in on whether or not Erik sabotaged Barbra Dillon's first Doctor Who experience. Erik becomes convinced this episode was shot before the Automan pilot. The trio attempt to figure out why the mob is trying to buy a Las Vegas hotel and casino in 1983 and why it is called "HotelCasino Las Vegas." The cloud of cigarette smoke in the Luxor gets properly lampooned. Also, Erik reveals to Justin and Drew who shot J.R. on Dallas.

In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite TV series: the award-winning 2003-2009 American military science fiction television series "Battlestar Galactica". A re-imagining of the 1978 "Battlestar Galactica" TV series by Glen A. Larson, the show was developed by and Executively Produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, beginning as a three-hour miniseries before being followed by four regular seasons, whose premise tells the story of the Battlestar Galactica and its military crew as they lead and defend the last human survivors of the Twelve Colonies following a devastating sneak attack by an android race of their own creation known as the Cylons, as they search for the fabled thirteenth colony known as Earth. The series stars Edward James Olmos as Commander/Admiral William Adama (the commanding officer of Battlestar Galactica), Mary McDonnell as President Laura Roslin, Katee Sackhoff as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, Jamie Bamber as Lee "Apollo" Adama (Admiral Adama's son), James Callis as Dr. Gaius Baltar, Tricia Hefler as Number Six, Grace Park as multiple versions of the Humanoid Cylon Number Eight, Michael Hogan as Saul Tigh (the executive officer of Battlestar Galactica), Aaron Douglas as Chief Galen Tyrol, Tahmoh Penikett as Karl "Helo" Agathon, Luciana Carro as Louanne "Kat" Katraine, as well as so many other amazing actors who play so many great and memorable characters throughout the series - including the character of Tom Zarek who is played by the late Richard Hatch, who was best known for playing the role of Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica TV series. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

Welcome to the next new episode my podcast! This episode has more of a focus on music for television. In the first section I explore the music composed by Stu Phillips for the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA television series, which aired for one season on ABC in 1978, produced by Glen A. Larson. This show and its music was an early favorite of mine and Phillips composed many wonderful themes and motifs heard through that single season. In the second section I talk with my friend and fellow soundtrack fan Mike Hagen about his favorite scores from TV series of the 1960's and 70's, including STAR TREK, LOST IN SPACE and DANGER MAN, the latter a UK television series aired here in the U.S. as SECRET AGENT MAN. Plus there are other fun recollections of his including his time working at the Tower Records in New York City and also being an extra on "Saturday Night Live"!
