Send us a Text Message.Willie Mays did not flaunt it as much as did Joe DiMaggio who reveled in being called Greatest Living Ballplayer (GLB) that he insisted on being introduced that way at public events. But after Joe D. passed away the debate was between Henry Aaron and Willie Mays with Mays' superior defense being a deciding factor. Both Aaron and Mays were amazing and we discuss the whole idea of GLB being silly. Mays and Mickey Mantle were both barred from baseball by then commissioner Bowie Kuhn for their associations with Atlantic City casinos. Willie's expulsion came five days after he was elected to the Hall of Fame! So we talk about gambling and baseball and the hypocrisy that exists before turning to a more fun subject in discussing who might be the GLB now that Willie and Henry are gone. We also pick a starting 9 of the greatest living ballplayers and even that was a tough choice! Intro & Outro music this season courtesy of Mercury Maid! Check them out on Spotify or Apple Music! In this episode Aaron sits down with his friend pastor Riley Taylor to discuss the importance of creativity in ministry. Aaron and Riley share a background in filmmaking and youth ministry, and have always believed in using their creative skills to enhance their ministry work. Riley explains that creativity in preaching can lead people to truth. By using creative elements like metaphors, stories, and illustrations, pastors can help people better understand and connect with biblical truths. He also stresses the importance of storytelling in ministry, as it can help people see the Gospel in a fresh light and make it more relevant to their lives. Both Aaron and Riley point out that God himself is a creative being, as evidenced by the creation story in Genesis 1. They believe that humans were created to be creative, and that using that creativity in ministry is a way of fulfilling our purpose. However, they also caution against letting ego and self-focus take over in the creative process, and emphasize the need for humility and surrender to God's will. Overall, this episode encourages ministers to embrace their creativity and use it as a tool for ministry, while remaining grounded in the truth and humility of Jesus. -------------- LINKS: Riley Taylor's Crazy Acts Flannel Graph Videos One of Riley's Creative Sermon Videos During Covid Sermon's from Riley's Church
Marni and Chris join forces to untangle the real-life dating lessons from this Hunger Games version of Bachelor in Paradise (BIP for the cool kids). Next week is the season finale so a lot of relationships are meeting their breaking point. And, Chris makes a BIG announcement about how to upgrade your male partner! Takeaways from this episode: The biggest mistake women make in relationships Is it too soon to start dating again? Finding someone new will not lessen your heartbreak The success rate of ultimatums Relationship Readiness [3:16] One of the biggest mistakes women make in dating and relationships happens twice in this episode. As Marni points out, you can't get under someone else before you are healed from your last relationship. For example; Eliza chooses Rodney but it doesn't feel right so she runs to the next boy, and keeps chasing different men because she doesn't know what will make her happy. Marni's advice for her is to take a pause to get her mind straight. Then, Andrew reveals that he can't get over Teddi breaking up with him in the second season. He just dates other people to try to feel better. He needs to deal with his feelings before going any farther with Ency, who apparently loves him after spending less than 24 hours with him. In a very short time, Ency's leaking low self-esteem gave Marni the icks. Many guys, when heartbroken, will try to find someone else. The idea that dating someone else will make you feel better or get over your heartbreak is immature. Chris asks if it is not healthy for someone to get under someone else soon after a breakup, how will I know when it is time? Marni says relationship readiness depends on when you are emotionally free from the past. There are no thoughts of your ex coming back, no resentment, and no dark thoughts. Your heart should be healed. Only after getting back to normal should you test the waters to see if you are able to be with another person without comparing them to the ex. Trust Your Intuition [17:58] Ency chooses the ultimatum strategy to try and get Aaron to give her love. By threatening to leave him she used an age-old manipulative strategy that comes from a place of fear and control. It is an immature and volatile way to handle conflict. It's a horrible way to try to get someone to love you. During the show, Aaron and Genevieve have an off-camera fight. Aaron tells her that her feeling impatient and stressed is the same thing and that she shouldn't feel that way. In a time when she needed empathy, he didn't know how to give it. Ultimately, they don't know how to resolve conflict. He is a mansplainer who deflects issues instead of dealing with them. Marni shares a spoiler and some juicy gossip about Aaron! Both Aaron and Genevieve have an anxious attachment style. Their interactions show the unhealthy ways people try to express themselves when they want to experience love. Somewhere deep down in her gut, Genevieve knows Aaron is not the right guy but she ignores her intuition over and over. “Fight for me” and ultimatum strategies are NOT ways to create connection or resolve problems. In part one of their Tom Petty Heavy Hitters episode TJ2 of the Rock and Roll Heaven Podcast challenged their listeners to come up with a set list for one of Tom's pet projects, The traveling Wilburys. We thought about listing them on one of their social media sites. But as we reviewed The Traveling Wilburys Volume 1 and 3 and some of the non-Wilbury work the members of the super group produced, Sissi, Aaron and I decided to do a companion podcast with our own picks where we could talk about them. We navigated through some chaos and confusion about the nature of the task to come up with the following. Check the social media sites at the bottom for the complete lists... Rules - 4 songs by each of the members of the Traveling Wilbury's. These couldbe from any song the artist appeared on in any capacity. Wide open. In the case of George Harrison, Beatle songs were permitted (why wouldn't they be?). Petty's work with Mudcrutch? Absolutely! You get the idea. - 4 songs from the two albums the group released as a band. Pretty simple. - 4 encores. This one really went sideways. Both Aaron and Lisa claim I did not make the encore stipulations clear, so I will take the blame. In the end, we did a composite of 4 tunes we all mostly agreed upon. But if there was one aspect of this homework assignment we failed it was this one. This episode is also available as a blog post: http://lovingscripture.com/2021/07/07/numbers-12-commentary/ Numbers 12 Commentary. Miriam and Aaron oppose Moses www.lovingscripture.com Miriam and Aaron oppose Moses. On the face of it the reason for the opposition seems to rise from Moses' marriage to an unnamed African woman. We already know that Moses was married to Zipporah who gave him two sons named Gershom and Eliezer. At this stage Moses was above 80 and probably Zipporah was dead. We have very little information on the first family. The mention of the Cushite (Ethiopian) wife for Moses here is motivated by the jealous incident detailed in this chapter. Both Aaron and Miriam began their argument with a reference to God's grace over Moses. He wasn't the only one that the LORD had spoken to, so they said. There is no reference to the law as the basis to oppose Moses' marriage to the Cushite woman. What we see here is the usual (and typical) family resentment of a brother's choice for a wife. We would suspect that Miriam led the opposition, based on women's natural reaction in these issues, hence her being singled out for a stronger rebuke from the LORD. In chapter 11 we saw the community in uproar over food. Now we have issues right within the top leadership team. Moses doesn't protest to the LORD but instead it's the LORD who moves in to protect and save the situation. It had been a trying moment for the nation in transit. We would suspect that there was a lot of resentment for Moses since he was the conduit for all the strict instructions from the LORD to the people. Today those who champion the LORD'S will and purposes do well to reflect on this passage. They suffer the wrath directed at the LORD. Man's angry and sinful reaction against God is often directed at the subjects of the kingdom. Chapter 12 is therefore a continuation of trouble for the nation. In fact it is these chapters in the middle of the book that define the book of Numbers. In the introduction we had wondered why the population of six hundred thousand men at the start was still six hundred thousand men after 40 years. At Kibroth Hattaavah in chapter 11, the community suffered loss as the LORD struck the nation with a severe plague. We can call it loss number one. We are still counting. The book of Numbers is actually about accounting for the various key numbers. More resources visit www.lovingscripture.com
In the 1890's, Aron Streit and his wife, Nettie, left Europe and came to America. In 1916, Aron opened his first matzo factory. There, on Pitt Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Aron and his first partner Rabbi Weinberger made all their matzo by hand. In 1925, Aron and one of his sons opened up a modern bakery on Rivington Street. A few years later, Aron's other son joined the business. With the family working together, the Streit matzo bakery prospered and Aron bought three adjoining buildings to handle the growing business. In 2015, after nearly 100 years making matzo on Manhattan's Lower Eastside, Streit's moved to a new and modern bakery in New York. Technology may have changed but Streit's traditions and dedication to quality have not. We want to ensure we will all be able to enjoy the same great-tasting matzo for centuries to come.Family and religious values are not the only things that have remained constant at Streit's. The matzo bakery is still a family business. Today, Aron's granddaughters and great-grandsons run the company. Streit's is the only family-owned and operated matzo company in America. On Election Day in America, Erwin and Aaron talk about how we handle disappointment as individuals and as a society. From the World Series to the president, they dissect our responses when we don't get who or what we want. What do your expectations and your reactions to disappointment say about your character? This integral question is what Erwin challenges younger generations to consider as the tensions within the US rise. Both Aaron and Erwin implore us to constantly check how we are handling disappointment in our lives. No matter what, there will inevitably be those you disagree with, and things cannot always go your way. We must approach those situations with maturity and ultimately respect if we strive to live in a better world. The award is open to individuals 35 years old and younger who are employed in specialty printing businesses. Third-party nominations will be accepted through October 31 Are Your Management Skills Up to Par? Aaron: Rather than point out what's wrong with this management style or that, let's talk about how a good manager operates. In fact, let's come up with a list of 10 questions to ask yourself to determine if you are a good manager. Terry, based on your experience as a manager, an employee, and as a consultant, what's your first question for a manager to ask themselves?Could you announce today that you need to take an unscheduled trip for two weeks and you won't be available by phone, email, Skype or social media… and be confident the wheels won't fall off the wagon? What was the last employee suggestion that you implemented in your business? In case that was a fluke, what was the one before that?Have you ever said at work, “That was my mistake? This is totally on me.”When you fired an employee, was it a surprise to them? When was the last time you thanked an employee for their effort, their idea, their hard work, saving the company money, etc.? Be honest here.Does every compliment you give include the word “but” in the middle?Do you have a comprehensive training program and plan? Can you operate at 100% efficiency when anyone employee leaves for any reason? Is there one employee on your staff who should likely be invited to leave? What is your reaction when an employee made a decision that didn't end well? In episode 143 I had the privilege of interviewing the founders of CAN Recover, Aaron Rocha (retired Babson College lacrosse player) and Mike Santee (retired Army hockey player). CAN Recover was inspired by Aaron and Mike’s experience and their realization of a communal need for individuals suffering from post concussion syndrome. Both Aaron and Mike battled post-concussion syndrome for up to 2 years and were withheld from returning to the sports they love. Through their experiences, they realized that there is no effective support available for student-athletes like themselves. Seeing how much impact they had on each other’s recoveries by providing empathetic support, they immediately wanted to start helping others overcome the physical and emotional challenges of a prolonged concussion recovery.

In this week's episode of the Smarter SMSF podcast (episode 38), Aaron is joined by Kevin Bungard, CEO of Class Limited to discuss insights from the March 2018 Benchmark report. In this quarterly report, Class looked at the continued growth of ETFs within SMSF as part of the fund's investment strategy. Both Aaron and Kevin discuss some of the rationale for the popularity of ETFs, not only as a low-cost solution, but also providing exposure to markets that trustees typically don't invest in directly (e.g. emerging markets). In addition, Kevin and Aaron discuss some of the insights from the updated benchmark data around membership, account balances, member phases and more with a focus on understanding what shifts are occuring in the data since the introduction of the new super reform measures from 1 July 2017.

#humpdaygiveaway Week 1 - What brand of drumsticks did Aaron receive on his birthday? This episode features a new interactive weekly contest. #humpdaygiveaway is a brand new weekly giveaway that is being brought to you by Nick at Canadian Drum Gear and DrumGAB. Every week I will open up the podcast with a question pertaining to the podcast. Here are three ways you can win.... 1. Repost the podcast art on your Instagram page and tag @drumgab1 and @canadiandrumgear you will immediately receive 1 ballot. 2. If you are really bringing your eh! game, DM me on my Instagram page @drumgab1 with the correct answer between noon-3pm EST and you'll be entered into the draw with 2 ballots. 3. Combine 1&2 and you will have 3 ballots!! Yeah, math! Everybody has a chance to win but if you listen to the show your odds just got a whole lot better. The window for the contest is each Wednesday 7am-7pm EST. So what do you win? Well, you get to choose your own pair of drumsticks and your choice of Aquarian Drumhead. We are also kicking in a #DrumGAB coupon code that will save you 15% on all purchases at www.canadiandrumgear.com for the week of the contest (Thursday - Thursday). On with the program...Aaron is a true working drummer. He is a master educator at the Yamaha Music School in Toronto and has been teaching there for a decade. He has studied under guys like Mark Kelso and Paul DeLong and because of this Aaron has some ridiculous facility. Aaron is what I would refer to as a "true drum nerd". Aaron will gladly spend a Friday evening studying something music related over a loud night at the club. So that is why this podcast is so filled with good stuff. He has so much info crammed into his dome and he just spills it in this podcast. This is also an episode that is heavily diverted from an "Interview". Both Aaron and I appreciate a good conversation and so we had one. I am not going to get into detail about every little thing we talked about...cause I would miss a bunch. You will just have to listen to it and hear it for yourself. Artist: Exes for Eyes Songs: Remember Savannah Shot in the Dark Aaron's Social Media Instagram www.drumgab.com
