Send us a textGaius Boiling (Instagram / Letterboxd ) from the "Back to the Blockbuster," podcast DROPS IN for his choice ”Darkman." (1990 d. Sam Raimi). Starring: Liam Neeson, Frances McDormand, and Larry Drake. It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Liam Neeson as 'PRUUNNNNEEE TRACY' in this original Superhero flick from Raimi, the great and powerful. What are Darkman's "powers?" Is there a Face/Off with out a Darkman? How much was Neeson allowed to use improvisational comedy? And all that very intentional pink elephant stuff. We answer all these questions and more thanks to a generous grant from the NY film academy school and Flim Springfield. 4/15!**All episodes contain explicit language**Artwork - Ben McFaddenReview Review Intro/Outro Theme - Jamie Henwood"What Are We Watching" & "Whatcha been up to?" We've passed 500 episodes so we decide to do another round of "Does This Count As a Horror Movie?" Thanks to the popularity of Evil Dead 2, Sam Raimi was able to follow it up with this original Superhero film inspired by Universal Monsters and the radio drama The Shadow. Between obvious homages to Phantom of the Opera and Invisible Man and the evil being played by Larry Drake we feel pretty confident saying this counts! Learn more about your ad choices. Nelson G from Average Home Theater Reviews and I are joining forces to discuss our favorite episodes from each season and both movies. In our premiere episode, we'll discuss all 6 episodes from Season 1. "The Man Who Was Death" - Niles Talbot (William Sadler), a prison executioner, is laid off from his job when the local legislature abolishes the death penalty. From there, he becomes a vigilante, administering his own style of justice to acquitted murder suspects. "And All Through the House" - Elizabeth (Mary Ellen Trainor), a greedy, philandering housewife, kills her second husband (Marshall Bell) for his insurance money. Upon getting rid of the body, she is unexpectedly attacked by an escaped mental patient (Larry Drake) dressed as Santa Claus who has been going around killing women. She soon fears that her young daughter may be the psychotic Santa's next victim. "Dig That Cat… He's Real Gone" - A carnival daredevil known as Ulric the Undying (Joe Pantoliano) is buried alive for his grand finale. Through a series of flashbacks, he tells the viewers how he was formerly a homeless vagrant who had undergone a doctor's experiment in order to transfer a cat's gland into his brain, giving him its nine lives and the ability to temporarily resurrect a number of times. However, during his final stunt, he suddenly remembers that he may have miscounted just how many lives he has left. Also starring Robert Wuhl. "Only Sin Deep" - Sylvia Vane (Lea Thompson), a young, narcissistic prostitute, "sells" her beauty to a voodoo-dabbling pawnbroker (Britt Leach) so that she can use the money to snag a rich bachelor, Ronnie Price (Brett Cullen), but she soon regrets it when her face begins to unexpectedly age at an accelerated rate. "Lover Come Hack to Me" - Peggy and Charles (Amanda Plummer and Stephen Shellen) are a newlywed couple who, after a car accident, end up settling for the night inside a decrepit mansion belonging to Peggy's aunt. While inside, Charles plans to kill Peggy for her inheritance, but he soon learns that Peggy's family has a dark past, and that Peggy herself is not who she seems to be. "Collection Completed" - An uptight elderly man named Jonas (M. Emmet Walsh) is forced into retirement, and soon discovers his wife Anita's (Audra Lindley) obsession with adopting animals into their home, leading him to use the animals for a hobby of his own. This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris attempt to answer the question "Who is Darkman?" as they dive into Sam Raimi's 1990 cult classic superhero movie.Getting released on 4K this week from Shout Factory, Darkman stars Liam Neeson as Dr. Peyton Westlake, a scientist trying to develop a synthetic skin replacement who is attacked by the sinister Robert Durant (Larry Drake) and his henchmen. Left with a body that is mostly burned, Peyton seeks his revenge by using his synthetic skin technology to impersonate the gang members and try to pick them off one by one. He's also trying to figure out a way to make the synthetic skin last longer than 99 minutes in daylight so he can reunite with his girlfriend Julie Hastings (Frances McDormand) with a mask of his former self.Zach and Chris talk about the over-the-top Sam Raimi touches (especially the carnival date scene), the awesome helicopter stunt, Darkman's impressive impression skills, radical medical treatments that turn patients into rage fueled superhumans, and more. “If you think that's bad, wait'll you get my bill.” This week on The Blind Rage Podcast, we take a look at one of horror's underdogs. While Manny Coto's DR. GIGGLES has accumulated a small, but dedicated cult following since its 1992 release, it never really got the love I always believed it truly deserved. Larry Drake gives one of the most memorable performances of his career, his portrayal of a killer Santa in the TALES FROM THE CRYPT episode “And All Through the House” coming in at a close second. While many are repelled by its wall-to-wall quips and one-liners, I think it adds to the fun of the experience. At the end of the day, that's what DR. GIGGLES is: a popcorn movie. It's not CITIZEN KANE. If you've yet to experience this ‘90s classic, simply go in expecting a good time and a lot of laughs. I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message

Cryptmas is upon us once again and we're talking both the 1972 and 1989 Tales From The Crypt: And All Through The House! Both versions are about a woman who has just murdered her husband while a maniac in a Santa suit is murdering women in her area and sets his sights on her! We've got genre icons like Freddie Francis directing the '72 version with the legendary Joan Collins, Fred Dekker writing the '89 with unsung, alternative-Christmas-movie Queen Mary Ellen Trainor as our murderess being pursued by Larry Drake! The 1972 version is visually amazing and we really wish it was a full-length film and 1989 is campy fun! Merry Christmas!!!

October is upon us and we here at Cinema Degeneration thought it was time for another Appreciation Month topic! We bring to you a celebration of 'Single Serving Slashers', slasher movies that never got a sequel. There are plenty of chapters in the sagas of Chucky, Jason, and Freddy; however, we wanted to honor those often overlooked slashers that only graced the screen in one thrilling film. For our 6th episode of colorful killers we drop our first slasher from the 90's with "DR GIGGLES" from 1992. Directed by Manny Coto and starring the incomparable Larry Drake at the titular Dr. Giggles. This comic book tale disguised as a horror movie is about a madman, who believes he's a doctor, returning to his hometown for a killing spree. This is a favorite of ours here and we're absolutely thrilled to bring you our take on the gigling and one liner spouting killer Dr. Rendell and his exploits of mayhem! Join our hosts Cameron Scott and Tom Komisar of the Grindhouse Pizzeria show as they take a deep dive into this underappreciated thriller that's an all new prescription for terror! "If you think that's bad, wait until you get my bill."

“Naughty…or nice.” Here on The Blind Rage Podcast, I have one final appetizer before the massive Christmas Eve feast! TALES FROM THE CRYPT: “And All Through the House” is probably the best execution of the “killer Santa” premise, with the original 1984 SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT coming in at a very close second. Larry Drake swings his axe with skill and expertise, while Mary Ellen Trainor gives a Scream Queen-caliber performance as his next victim. Enjoy and, as The Crypt-Keeper says, “be careful what you AXE for for Christmas. You might just get it! Hehehehehehe!!!” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/blindragepod/message
Join us as we discuss some Slayer Santas with criminal tendencies! We kick things off by exploring all the different laws and regulations Santa breaks on a regular basis, from tax evasion to unlawful surveillance. Next, we dive into …And All Through the House, both the segment from the 1972 anthology film and the episode from the 1989 television series Tales from the Crypt, the ladder featuring the most menacing Larry Drake as the escaped lunatic. We also get to hear Mike's Cryptkeeper impersonation! If you've ever wanted to glue a beard and eyebrows to your face and go on a Yuletide rampage, then Christmas Evil aka You Better Watch Out from 1980, which is John Waters favorite Christmas themed film, is just for you. A Black Christmas / Friday the 13th mashup, To All a Goodnight. 1984's Silent Night, Deadly Night also gets a lengthy, in-depth analysis, just in time for GARBAGE DAY! The film with many names that the ripped off as the basis for Home Alone, Dial Code Santa Claus aka Game Over features a Slayer Santa and a young French Rambo. Wrapping it all up, we get silly with the horrible Silent Night remake from 2012, which was partially inspired by the tragic real life Covina Massacre on Christmas Eve in 2008, where Bruce Pardo crashed the party of his in-laws and killed 9 members of his ex-wife's family dressed in a custom made Santa suit before torching their house with a homemade flamethrower that he brought with him wrapped as a present.
In this episode of the Fan2Fan Podcast we talk about the horror movie Dr. Giggles! Andrew, Bernie, and Lopez discuss this 1992 underrated slasher, Larry Drake's perfect tongue-in-cheek performance, VHS cover art, and more. For more info about the Fan2Fan Podcast, visit: https://linktr.ee/fan2fan

Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
Long before Liam Neeson let the world know about his "very particular set of skills," he was Darkman. The cult classic from director Sam Raimi even predates Neeson's Star Wars and Batman Begins days. Yet, in many ways, it feels like it belongs to the initial comic book movie boom of the early 2000s. Kevin Smith joins the show to discuss why Darkman is such a well-kept secret, how it's a critical turning point for Raimi's career, and why Hollywood should dust off the franchise. We'll also cover Oscar winner Frances McDormand, the late great Larry Drake, and that pink elephant. He's everyone and no one. Everywhere and nowhere. But this episode, you can call him Darkman. SYNOPSIS When thugs employed by a crime boss lead a vicious assault on Dr. Peyton Westlake (Liam Neeson), leaving him literally and psychologically scarred, an emergency procedure allows him to survive. Upon his recovery, Westlake can find solace only by returning to his scientific work developing synthetic skin, and seeking revenge against the crime boss. He assumes a phantom avenger persona called Darkman, who -- with malleable facial qualities -- is able to infiltrate and sow terror in the criminal community. Get ready for a Horror 101 show that is unlike any that have come before it. For the first time ever we spend more time shredding horror films than we do promoting them. With the recent death of Larry Drake we took the opportunity to spotlight three films he was involved in. The first is a made for TV horror film from 1981 called Dark Night of the Scarecrow. The second is one of the most ridiculous slasher films ever made, Dr. Giggles. And finally, we cover Sam Raimi's Darkman. For the first time ever we give a movie a ZERO. Listen to how The World Famous Brian Stewart almost destroys Cash's TV. He's THAT annoyed. We'll discuss the horror homages in Tarantino's Hateful Eight and include music from John Carpenter's upcoming album Lost Themes II. This is the episode that may offend some but is guaranteed to leave everyone in stitches. Its another 43 minutes of Horror 101 goodness you're not going to want to miss. Payton Westlake (Chrisopher Bowen) is Darkman, a man with an only occasional face who likes yelling at homeless children, and old mate Larry Drake is back in villain form as Durant. This reimagining/weird cut-and-paste job of the Sam Raimi film answers all those questions you might have had about the Darkman character, like: If he's homeless, how does he get all the gadgets? What's his beef with bad grammar? Why does synthetic skin boil like lava after an hour and a half? All that, and less! If you like 90% voice-over explanation dialogue, you'll love* Darkman! Darkman is a 1990 superhero flick directed and co-written by Sam Raimi, one of our Horror Movie Heroes. The film is based on a short story Raimi wrote that paid homage to Universal's horror films of the 1930s. On this episode of the Really Awful Movies Podcast, a deep dive into Darkman and what makes it so f-ing memorable. Peyton Westlake is a scientist who has discovered a way to produce synthetic skin. First off, you gotta love crazed scientist movies. That conceit alone carries many a genre film, especially the ones that influenced Raimi and company here. Dr. Westlake's discovery could revolutionist skin grafting, except for one minor kink they've gotta work out: the synthetic skin degrades after 100 minutes of exposure to light. Whoops. When gangsters attack Peyton, he is horrifically burnt, and left for dead. In his quest for revenge, Peyton, aka the Darkman, is able to take on the appearance of anyone (using the synthetic skin,) but with that time constraint. Your hosts Chris and Jeff discuss similarities to the Batman franchise, happy endings and the dark spirit of Darkman's aesthetic. This film is early in Liam Neeson's career. He was not the first choice for Dr. Westlake. They considered Bill Paxton (not to be confused with Bill Pullman!). Raimi felt Neeson was the right fit to show the monster's soul. The film also features Larry Drake as the villain. He's best known for Dr. Giggles and many other roles. Tune in for smart genre chat on our show!
Factories used to be no place for a kid. In fact, there were some that might’ve even scared the bravest of men. But with today’s super clean 21st century factories some almost resemble a hospital operating room. That’s only one of the reasons that Michigan’s Macomb County – just north of Detroit – has gone all in to educate young students on the benefits of working with today’s manufacturing. Joining John McElroy to talk about this groundbreaking program is County Executive Mark Hackel, Michael DeVault, Superintendent of Intermediate Schools and Larry Drake from Kuka Systems.

It's our inaugural podcast, so we celebrate by discussing the movie that had us leaving the theater practicing our Crane Technique and wondering if we'd ever get the girl. That's right, episode one is all about "The Karate Kid" starring Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita. Movie: The Karate Kid Year released: 1984 Director: John G. Avildsen Lead Actors: Ralph Macchio - Danny Larusso Noriyuki "Pat" Morita - Mr. Miyagi Elisabeth Shue - Ali Mills William Zabka - Johnny Lawrence Things of note: Even after more than 25 since the film's release, people still get the reference when you say "Wax on, wax off." Ralph Macchio was 22 years old during the filming. William Zabka directed a music video for the band, "No More Kings." The song was called "Sweep the Leg" and was written about Zabka's character in The Karate Kid. Pat Morita was a stand-up comedian early in his career. Morita's natural accent is American. He faked the Japanese one. The drunk racist on the beach who placed his beer bottles on Mr. Miyagi's truck was played by Larry Drake, best known for his role as the mentally challenged Benny in the TV series "LA Law".
